Overall the features on this bass are great. It could possibly do with a couple more frets but all the electronics are top quality. Cost me #1000 in Brighton and i bought it in 2000 after playing on it for just 5 minutes (thats all i needed!) The neck fits my hands perfectly and the chrome finish is beautiful. No case though, which is a bit dissapointing for such an outstanding guitar.

AMAZING!!! That's all ive got to say about the sound! I've played it on both my Trace Elliot and my Ashdown 300watt amps and its great and so versatile.

I've had to lower the action a bit but the sound is still great and there's no buzz at all. The bass was in near perfect condition when i got it but i have found a couple of minor problems. Firstly the jack input socket is a little loose and it's very difficult to tighten. Secondly, it took me forever to ajust the neck because the truss rod is so hard to ajust. It's hard to get a secure hold on the rod.

I have used it on all of my gigs and it is pretty much intact, minus a few dents where ive been a little careless. Apart from my accidents with it, it has lasted through playing and everything is still intact. I have only ajusted the truss rod once and it's been fine since. ive had it 4 years and it's still going strong!

Overall, i'd say this is definately a great bass. It's durable, sounds great, looks great, is well balanced and easy to play. The only reason i wouldn't give it a 10 is because of the lack of a case and the almost inaccessable truss rod, but other than that, it's great!

The bass has 20 frets, four strings and Grover tuners. Mine has a beautiful Mahogany boy with a transparent red finish. The neck is just the right size to fit my (rather small since I'm a woman) hands.
I bought mine new 2002 but it's been hanging in the shop for a year - and I've been admiring it but didn't have the cash to actually buy it. A tad disappointing is the lack of case or even gig bag - the shop felt obliged to give me one of their own when they were selling such an expensive instrument - but I wouldn't have minded one with the Gibson logo!!! No extras at all supplied - that is why it doesn't get a 10 in my rating!

The two pickups can be switched serial, parallell or split coil - this gives the instrument a wide variety of sounds to choose from. I find the sound very rich and warm and I'm very satisfied.
I'm using it with a Carlsbro Stingray amplifier with an extra Fender Blackface cabinet and it sounds great. I've tried different effects, but I actually think the bass sounds better without them!

I have adjusted the neck a bit - I found the factory string set up a bit high - and now it's perfect. You can have very low action without any buzz and there are no "dead spots". Otherwise I haven't had to adjust anything and I'm very happy with it.
The finish IS beautiful....

What can I say - I think I'll have this bass forever! It has a very solid feel and no flaws.

I've actually e-mailed Gibson support since I'm stupid enough not to understand what the switches did and what position was what... I got a very friendly reply the very next day.

I've been playing bass since 1989 and we have lots of instruments - I compare this one to amongst others a Rickenbacker 4001, a 1976 Fender Jazz-bass and a Epiphone T-bird.
If someone ever took it I would hunt them down!!!

Made in 2000. Has 20 Frets. Two Dual Z passive pickups that sound fantastic and give you a wide range of tones from clean and straightforward to dirty and balls out. Independent volume knobs for each pick-up and one knob for tone. Also, each pick-up has parallel coil tap switches (also to enhance tone). Body and neck is mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard. Includes a Black Schaller bridge with black Grover hardware. It has a very fast Slim Taper Neck, and the Heritage Cherry finish (simply beautiful)on the classic Gibson SG style body make this bass a delight to look at (I dig the horns!). Also, has a very cool looking black pearloid pickguard. My only complaint is that this beautiful instrument ships with a gigbag which makes no sense to me whatsoever and makes me extremely nervous to travel with it. I checked with my local Sam Ash (Don't ask me why) and they don't know if a hardshell case is available or not (typical response from Sam Ash employees, they don't know much). I e-mailed Gibson to see if I could get more information and am currently waiting for a response. I would give the features a 10 if it weren't for the lack of a hardshell case. I am extremely happy with all other features.

This thing sounds incredible! I am playing it through an SWR Silverado Special amp with no FX (don't need any with this guitar)and am simply blown away. Sounds great live and when recording (direct no less). I also own a Fender American Deluxe P-Bass and have noticed that the SG-Z has a much more gritty sound (great for metal, hard rock, and alternative rock). I am planing on keeping my Fender for blues,R&B,etc. The SG-Z also has great sustain compared to the Fender (due to the neck through body design.Bolt-on necks suck!). Another note, the SG-Z is 1/4 of the weight of my Fender which is a true godsend and a real treat when playing for 2-3 hours straight!

The action was fantastic. This thing plays like buttah! It was factory direct and so nobody had played it before me (except for the folks at Gibson). The pickups were adjusted nicely, too. I did notice that the tone knob is a little bit loose but this is probably a result of shipping it in a gigbag (See above). Overall, the factory did a very nice job on the setup.

This bass seems pretty sturdy and I would not be afraid to use it in any type of live or studio situation. I am pleased with the black hardware, also. Less likely to show rust.

I have been playing bass for 10 years and feel as if I finally own a professional instrument. I was very happy with my Fender American Deluxe P-Bass when I first purchased it, but had to laugh at it when I played the Gibson. The SG-Z is fast, loud, lightweight, a dream to play, and sounds awesome! I would buy another in a heartbeat if mine were stolen or lost. I can't believe that I haven't owned a Gibson until now. I just wish it had a case.
