Nice body finish and very comfortable. The thru body bridge makes the low B sound fantastic. The neck is good but way too large at the 12th fret.

Sound : 5
Trying it in an amp and it was great. The sound I was looking for. But in the studio, it is onse of the poorest sound I've ever heard. It's due to the Pbass Pu's that, even if you see only 5 magnets, there are in fact 6 (one is hidden under the plastic cover) so the A string got 2 magnets. At Godin, they tell that you can go to aluthier to deactivate the magnet. At 800$, should we have to do that ?

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The bass set up was OK. As I said, for the PU's problem, before I found out, I spent a long time adjusting the height of the PU's. The rest was just fine.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The bass is very solid ans stays in tune. I played 60 days with it so I can't tell about durability.

Customer Support : 5
Godin is not Fender. Somebody should tell this to that company that sometimes feels bigger than Fender so we could have somme minimum service up there...or the company should concentrate on high end instruments only.

Overall Rating : 7
The problem with Godin is that they are making good instruments but with an extremely low resale value. After 60 days I could have only 350 $ for it... Had also a guitar from them...same thing. Actually, I play with Korean made instruments and the reliability is better than Godin and even my former USA Strat. I think Godin should transfer its domestic production in Asia so we could get decent and affordable instruments, , not these not so well made wannabees.

This is a Godin Freeway-5, used but in excellent condition. Like the fact it is a combinattion of Canadian and American manufacture. Satin finish over a flamed wood maple cap. Cool body shape. Reminds me of Fender Jazz I had a long while back. I think it is an instrument unique to itself, classic but utilizing a forward thinking PJ setup.

I am a home recordist. Use settings in Pod to go to tape. Yessir, tape. No digital here. Sounds defined. Bottom line is I'm pleased with the sound. P pickup big and ballsy while J pickup gets the farty woody tone with tone control backed down a bit. Combination of pickups allow tone shaping in that each pu has its own volume control with master tone. Can't imagine someone not finding a usable tone.

Here's where she shines. 5 string but neck contour makes it feel smaller. I have smallish hands but am at home with the neck. Something to do with the C shaped neck and flat back of neck. I only know its comfortable to play. Most importantly, the fretwork is really good, no crappy buzzing. Previous bass was by Modulus and this bass's fretwork equal. No kidding. Only issue is low B is run thru top of bridge while other 4 strings go thru body. Maybe issue due to previous owner? Low B could be a bit waffly live.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Seems to be as solid as the many Fenders I've used over 30 years. Put it this way: I'd play this as happily as any of the Fenders I've had. Similiar construction, classic design. Some may update pickups, but I can't carp about them.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Guess biggest thing is I haven't needed to talk to them. That's a good thing, right?

Overall Rating : 9
Well, been playing longer than dirt. Hey, I like this bass, won't be changing it soon. If you are in the market for an affordable 5 string that keeps the spirit that Leo Fender began, you couldn't go wrong. I looked at many basses. This one just felt right based on my previous years of playing and owning. Walk out with one soon.

Mine is a 2004 model with a maple-capped mahogany body and maple neck
with rosewood fretboard. The frets are nicely finished and the satin
finished neck is a real pleasure to play. As others have stated, this
is a flat, fairly narrow neck that is especially easy on small hands.
The 4+1 tuners seem better than average, but the convertible bridge is
really outstanding for a 5 string in this price range, very solid with
lots of mass, plenty of adjustment. The PJ passive pickups are very
decent.

Having played P-Basses for years, I have settled on using this bass
with the only the P pickup on. The J pickup is a little too thin-
sounding for my taste, and using both together doesn't seem to give the best of either sounds, along with a noticible volume drop. Anyway, The P pickup full up sounds great, lots of growl and punch.
I've only used this bass live, so the studio could be a different story. But live, this thing really shines, with great sustain.
I guess ideally the B string could sound a little tighter, but overall
this thing sounds very good for an instrument in this price range.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I have to say, this thing was set up almost perfectly when I got it.
Maybe it's because I bought it over the internet and the dealer
worked on it before I received it, but I didn't have to do a thing to it. This is a first for me, and hats-off to the Music Farm. The longer I play this bass the more impressed I am with the quality.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have no issues with this bass. I play several times a week with it,
and have for over 6 months now. Everything feels solid, good controls, very good strap buttons, no finish issues.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't needed any repairs, or dealt with the company.

Overall Rating : 9
I am very satisfied with this purchase. This is a well balanced, medium weight, comfortable 5 string bass with good quality hardware
and sound at a very reasonable price. The neck profile and finish
are outstanding. At this price point, an electronics upgrade could
turn this instrument into something special at a bargain price.

Canadian and US made/assembled. Natural finish, nice maple cap and mahogany back perfect finish. Brige is thru body or not you can choose. PJ passive Godin pickups, VVT controls. Nice quality parts assembed well the tuners are sold, the construction of the headstock is slim and easy to access the 4/1 configuration, two string retainers holds everything tight. What attracted me to the bass was the neck. Godin cuts them almost flat in the back but with C style sides. It feels really natural but is easy to play and greatly helps my 5 string reach for my fairly small hands.

Came with Godin gig bag that is quite the trip, snazzy.

Sound : 7
I'm about 70% good with the sound, the output is about comperable to a jazz bass, but the p-bass style pickup doesn't have the chunka chunka of a real p bass. The bridge pup sounds really nice, a snappy, familiar jazz bass sound. I think the best sounds are from the bridge rolled back just a hair and some added high end from the amp. there are some highs lacking, perhaps that the lack of a good p-bass sound, the details of the growl aren't coming through. Overall it's a well rounded sound, with ballsy low mids and plenty of thump. My guitarist remarked on the lower mids compared to my Peavy Foundation 5 I was using before, but I did need to pop up the highs.

It has a sweet and nuanced sound going direct for recording but that nuance is hard to unearth live.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
B string was a bit low, pickups a bit high. Otherwise perfectly assembled, no flaws or cheap bits, feels like great quality. Beautiful, simple wiring job the insulated rear cavity has plenty of room for a pre-amp, it almost looks like they were expecting you to add one.

I compared to a MTD 5 and Ibanez SR405 and this felt superior in almost every way. It doesn't have the flimsy manufactured feel of those other two. It also didn't rattle on the board like those others, it was the cleanest playing regarding buzz on all strings. Maybe just a set up issue.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Everything seems to be good quality and I hope it stands up to time.

Customer Support : 5
There a warrenty card with the bass but not real specs I would like to have seen a spec sheet or something. I like getting the "Welcome to the Godin family" customer loyalty building crap that Fender does so well. Frankly, I think all new guitars should come with a t-shirt or a cap! They should say thank you in this super competitive market.

Overall Rating : 9
I'm very pleased so far. It's not a heavy bass considering it's beefy sound, it plays great, sounds decent and was a great price. I liked it over other (under $1000) five strings I've played including Fenders, MTD, Ibanez, Washburn, Peavey and Spector imports.

The stock pickups are fine but they don't jump out at you that they sound great, fairly average. The bass may benefit from some upgraded electronics.

Made in Canada 2001; 20 frets five string bass; solid body (maple boy, maple neck, rosewood fretboard); volume for neck pickup, volume for bridge pickup, tone balance knob; pickups from manufacturer; black pearl rock style body (with slightly more curves); string through body; manufacturer non-locking tuners; 34" Scale, 1 13/16" nut width very comfortable thin neck with "D" profile

Sound : 9
I play it at church formed by latin immigrants; we play salsa, reggae, merengue, marches and some other latin rithms besides rock, funk and some ballads.
I use it with a Digitech BP-50 modeling processor pedal and trhough the church's PA.
It can be noisy if bridge pickup is turned all the way, but a moderate setting on the BP-50 noise-gate option usually gets rid of it.
It can vary the sound quite a bit from fairily bright to fairily dark depending on pickup and tone settings and it has good dynamic range (I can play soflty or loudly without having to change volume settings).
It has a very comfortable feeling and it meets the church's demands without trouble; pickups could be better, but considering its budget priced they are OK

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action was excellent in all but the 5th string which was too low; when I repolaced the 130 gauge 5th string for a 145 it was much better.
The pickups are average, give you quite a bit of controll and are easy to control.
Finish was excellent, spotless.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I guess we play live every sunday for about 45 min and it does so very well, the hardware looks very sturdy and works well, the finish is not easy to scratch and cleans easily, strap bottons seem OK, maybe a little bit small but since I don't need to move too much I've never had a problem with them. I've haven't had to do any adjustments on it (other than changing the gauge of the 5th string) and I would surely gig without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them, has 1 year parts and manufacture warranty

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing guitar for 11 years and I own quite a variety of string intruments: 3 luthier classical guitars, 1 flamenco guitar, 1 cuban tres, 1 cuban laud,1 venezuelan cuatro,1 charango, 1 electroacoustic fretless 5 string bass, and 1 jazz guitar.
If it was lost or stolen I would buy the same one but on natural wood finish.
I compared it to a few basses in the store, a few yamahas and fender but this one felt right just when I grabbed it (perhaps because it has a neck very similar to a classical guitar), it sounded just as good (I played all of them connected to the same amp) and was budget priced.
As I said, I just love the way it feels it is the most comfortable bass I've played. I wish it had a tone selector with centre detent.
