I bought this Canadian made bass new 1 month ago, but it's a 1999 model. It has a 34 inch scale, 4 string, solid silver leaf maple body (not laminate)painted deep black, satin finished hard rock maple neck, 2 Seymour Duncan Basslines active pickups (front "p" and back "j")and a control layout with a pull/boost volume pot, a pickup blend pot, and a stacked treble (on top)/bass (on bottom) tone pot. the bridge style is string-thru.
Sound

This is a naturally bright bass which can cut through and really shines on its own. But with the active pickups, it's easy to dial in any sound i want, from DEEP bass all the way to sharp funk bass. I've owned many basses in the past(Fender, Ibanez, Gibson, Yamaha) and this is by far the most versitile bass i've owned.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The action was set up pretty good. I had to adjust the g string up a bit to eliminate some fret buzz, but a little turn and that was it. Also, the pickguard doesn't lay flat on the body at one point, but it's hardly noticable and not a disturbance. I'm a real stickler for fit and finish, and i am pleased with the paint, fret work, and overall workmanship of the bass other than the above mentioned minor flaws.
Reliability/Durability

In the short time that i've owned this bass, it has made me a believer. It plays great, the hardware is solid, and the finish is just right. I will change the strap buttons to locking ones in the future, but that's personal preference. I would and have used this bass on gigs without a backup many times already.

I've been playing now for over 20 years, and i've bought numerous pieces of gear along the way. This may be the longest i've gone without being bummed about something on a particular piece of equipment. This bass rocks!! I play mostly rock and hard rock, but i also play in a top 40 band, and the versatility of this bass is great.I'm able to get a large variety of sounds from the bass without having to redial the amp.I would definitely buy another Godin.
