The sound and response is as near to an acoustic upright as I can judge can judge. fIt is also the haviest of any bass guitar I have ffound. I have played bass violin for more than 67 years.

I bought a plastic body Hagstrom II bass at a garage sale years ago. I don't know the year of manufacture, but the playability, balance, and sound were drop dead great. I gave it to my son when he asked for it. He said he'll NEVER part with it.
I've played Precisions, Jazzes, Alembics, EB-O, EB-1,EB-3, G&L, and Hofner, and NOTHING TOUCHES that Hagstrom.

Stage, studio, garage practice...it doesn't matter.
The Hagstrom II does it all, sound-wise, and if yu've ever kissed a pretty girl goodnight with a promise for the future, you KNOW the neck and the action!

Maybe I got the best of the litter, but that plastic body Hagstrom II is what a bass guitar SHOULD be!

Adjustments? A 'backup bass' on a gig? Not with THIS bass!

I've been playing guitar/bass/drums since 1967. I LOVE OLD instruments, preferably NOT well-known brands. My main guitar is a 1946 Sears Silvertone F-hole electric. If anyone can give me details as to this gem, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.
