This bass, was completed in June of 2004, By Allan Hamilton from Georgia, USA. My Fairlane has 21 frets, and four strings.
The bass has two passive pickups, a humbucker in the bridge position, and i also had Allan put in a gibson-style mini-humbucker in the neck position.
Controls are: Volume, Tone, Blend (passive electronics)
Body Style is a Fairlane shape, Natural finished maple top with a black finished alder body, and Allan also put in a white binding along the body
The bridge is a Schaller Bass Bridge, string through bridge type.
Tuners are gotoh, like the fender elephant ear tuners :)
My Fairlane is 34" scale, and the neck is maple/maple FB, Black block inlays, and the neck has the standard jazz bass shape.
chrome hardware.

This is one solid bass. Allan was very thorough in every aspect of building the bass. He was very good with meeting every single spec i gave him, so i can't give give it less than a ten, because it has everything i want!

Sound : 10
This is my favorite part of the bass...
I had wanted a bass that would be a real workhorse. I enjoy everything about music, and find that with the groups that i play bass for, i wanted to be able to have one bass fit all those genres. For this, Hambone suggested adding a gibson bass mini-bucker in the neck position, which nicely compliments the standard humbucker in the bridge position. Hambone's expertise really paid off, as i can go anywhere from a HiFi stingray-esque sound in the bridge when i really want to cut through in my experimental group, to a real deep rumble with the gibson pickup. Between using those two pickups, playing with the tone control, and using the correct technique, i am able to get anywhere from a stingray-type sound, to a Jaco-esque midrange honk, to the thump of a P-bass and even down into dub territory.
I really have to say again, this is my favorite part of the bass...it's tone...and isn't that what it's all about?
also, i should add, for even more flexibility, on the back of the bass, Hambone put a large kidney-bean shaped control cavity, which is huge for a passive bass, but the reason for this is in the case that i might want to put in active electronics, there will be plenty of room in the future for that...good thinking Allan!

btw, I am playing the fairlane through an AMP 220 and Patterson Audio System 2x8 in most of my bands, and in other bands i play it through a Peavey Deltabass and Peavey 1810. I also play through a few effects, like a electrix repeater, ART nightbass SE, lexicon Jamman, and i also use several pedals, mostly a boss ODB-3 and a sabine fuzztortion.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Allan is a master at setting up a bass. I like a bass with low action, and this bass delivers. I have the low action that i want, and everything there is perfect. The pickups were adjusted to the correct hight and everything was ready to go right out of the box.
You just can't beat that :)

Reliability/Durability : 9
this bass is built solid. I have been playing it for two years this month, and i have never had a realiability or durability issue with it, and it's my main gigging bass as well.
Can I depend on it? yes. it has shown little sign of any aging, and i am pretty rough on my basses, so i am happy that it can withstand my beating.

The only reason reason i gave it a 9 instead of a ten is really mostly my fault. I did want a gibson pickup, and Allan said that because its a chrome colored pickup, it might contrast a little too much against a maple/black color scheme. Allan had said that he will paint it black for me, which he did (as you can see in the picture in the link below) and it holds up great...the only problem that i had was that when i slap and pop, i pop right over that pickup, and i scratch the paint, so there are small pieces of metal showing through, but i'm cool with that, as i don't mind showing that i've been playing for a while, so outside of that, this bass has been perfect

Customer Support : 10
Allan Hamilton is among the best of the best in bass building. I will admit, when i first starting thinking custom, i was very stupid when it came to all the choices. Allan had took the time to explain everything (and i mean EVERYTHING!) to me, and made sure that i understood what i was getting. Allan has a vast knowledge of the tonal qualities of different woods, and i appreciate that. He will always take the time to make sure you know what's going on, he is good on sending progress pics so you can see where your bass is at.
Not only that, but Allan is never rude to a customer...I am sure that there has been plently of times where he could have ripped me a new one (and i am sure plently of bass makers would have) but Allan never said a negative thing through the whole time, and i am thankful for finding someone as helpful as Allan!

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing bass for about 8 years. I mentioned my other gear above, my main band is an experimental/loop/ambient band, and this bass delivers.
Is there something i wish had asked for before buying the bass? nope, like i said before, Allan had walked me through the order form part by part, and made sure that i had a pretty good visualization of the bass, and when i got it, it was exactly how i had hoped it would be, if not better. If it were stolen, i would be quite upset, and i would have Allan make me another bass :)
I love how i can get any tone out of the bass. for me, tone is everything, and thats where this bass shines.
anything i hate? no
i think for the money, you can't beat Hambone's Basses. The match of excessive knowledge and a helpful and courteous attitude makes the whole experience a fanstastic value.
