USA made (about 1998)Cruisebass 5 Fretless w/ 2TEK bridge.
Alder body, Ebony fretboard. Maple inlaid ghost lines.
Basslines J bass style active pickups thru a passive tone/volume circuit. Simple Jazz style v/v/t controls. Uses a nine volt battery for the active pickups.
Asymetrical neck is narrower on G/D string side for easier playing.
The neck profile is handshaped & plays very well.
4+1 Tuner arrangement on a painted matching headstock.

The quality is excellent; rivals most boutique basses.
Would have liked an active circuit for the pickups though.
Also, at 10 to 10.5 lbs. it is a bit heavy. Part of that is the meaty bridge.I prefer lighter weight.

Sound : 8
I like to play Rock,Blues & Funk.
This bass has a great, clear tone.
The 2/TEK bridge adds clarity.
I'd describe it as modern sound, with an upright flavor.
That is about right. It does have a big sound & is a loud bass!
I find it not really suited to what I want to personally like to acheive for my styles of music. It can work; but it's not me.
I like a sizzling top end. I don't find that on fretless.
Yet, it is a great sounding bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
A solid ten here.
Hamer quality is outstanding on every USA Cruisebass I've played.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass is built like a tank!

I've been a player for over 20 years.
Pretty much a Fender guy. A 4 string player.
Although it is a killer bass in it's own right;I would go for a fretted version next time around.
The neck feels wonderful. The sound is pure fretless. The bass is a bit heavy. The overall quality is outstanding. The look of the bass-great! It is alot of bass for the money.

This is a USA-made, fretless, 5-string, Hamer Cruise Bass with 2-tek bridge. Two volumes and one tone. Seymore Duncan active jazzlines pickups. Who cares about the color, this bass sounds terrible! I've been playing bass in bands for the last 20 years.

I hate the sound of this bass.

Sound : 1
The sound stinks! It's too midy and that interferes with the bottom end. I have 2 bass amps, a peavey Mark IV with 2 15s and a Carvin red eye. I can't get any bottom end out of either with this thing. I can't use it live, because I can't equalize any bottom end into it. The mid dominates too much, and I don't like mid. I paid a lot of money for this chump because of all of these great reviews and I am seriously disappointed.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
OK, It's a nice bass to play unplugged...but dear god, don't plug it in. The mids are killing me. It's also very quiet for recording work, but you already knew that.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Seems reliable. But I end up using my Steinberger or Samick to play live. They just have a sweeter sound. Especially the Samick. It's a 5 string custom shop P-Bass copy with active bartolini pickups. That's the sound! That Sammick knocks your eyeballs back into your sockets with barely any EQ. I want all my basses to sound like that. It hurts me that the Samick was a third of the price I paid for the Cruise. I should have played it at a live gig instead of listening to all of these stupid reviews!!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never contacted Support, because I knew they wouldn't be able to help me get the mids out.

Overall Rating : 1
Like I said, I've been playing bass for over 20 years. I just hate the sound of this bass. It's got too much midrange. I know a lot of you idiots like that, but I don't. Midrange is for guitar. I should have never relied on these revues as a basis for my decision. I should have used my ear, like I usually do. These reviews of "awesome bottom end" misled me into buying this bass.

I think mine is a 1997. It was a lease to a pro tour, was in near
mint when I got it.

It's 22 frets, 5 string. Has 2 volumes and a tone. The original Duncal Bass Lines pickups are passive. Neck is bolt-on Maple. I think the body is poplar with a semi transparent off-white finish. Body style is a modified Jazz with a 2Tek bridge (best bridge I've ever played. Non locking tuners, asymetrical neck (treble side is thinner front-to-back than bass side. Makes it real real fast to play. Fat frets, came with no case. I modified the Anvil from my old P to make it fit.

Sound : 10
I'm a funkster, primarily. I have 2 other bases, have owned about 20 basses in my life. I havje a $5,000.00 Alembic, and tend to play the Hamer most of the time. Can't believe the tones this thing can get. You can play on the back PU and get the Jaco sound, not touch anything and start slapping and... IT WORKS! Bonk, Bonk... lust like Bootzilla!

Projects real well on stage with funk stuff and Motown. I'm doing some recording now, and it really projects there as well.

This thing refuses to pick up interference and buzzing stuff. Shielded really well.

My only dislike is the color (my fault. It was a real good deal.)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
As it was somewhat used (6 months on a midwest tour) the set up was pretty good. Everything was adjusted really well. Rarely needs neck adjustments. More than I can say for the 7 pc neck thru the body on my Alembic.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This thing is so solid I think you could use it for a toboggen (sp?) then record on it. The only thing that ever has gone wrong with it (have had it for 3 years) is that I was going kind of slap happy on it and a bridge saddle came unscrewed. I think it was my fault 'cause I had it adjusted too loose. Screwed it back in, and 2 1/2 years later, plenty of stinky funk, and no more problems.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Uuhhh... I never called customer support, CAUSE NOTHING WENT WRONG WITH IT!!!!!!! WAYYYYYYYY COOOOOOOL!

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for about 18 years. Own about 7 guitars (3 of which are basses) and a few amps, some recording stuff.

If lost or stolen, I'd comb the world trying to find a 'burst 2Tek cruise. I highly recommend the Cruise for anyone who wants something that sounds really great and is a joy to play. Good for most any kind of music. Even the Eagles.

alder body, jazz shape two duncan basslines active jazz style pickups two volumes, one tone 3 piece maple neck with rosewood board, 22 frets midly sparkly red finish--very nice--it may be nitro laquer even. 2Teck bridge--big massive thing sits in a hole in the body
basically a five string j-bass, like dozens of others out there.

Sound : No Opinion
It's a little clunky--not a light agile bass, but it's got a lot of chunk and funk. I wanted a bass with more of a vintage vibe than a lot of high end basses give you, but still capable of modern stuff. There's a really big bottom end to it, thanks I think to the 2-tek bridge. A lot of fundamental. There are no dead spots, thanks to the bridge and probably the 3-piece neck. Long sustain, great harmonics. It's got that rare thing where you get lots of bottom without losing either clarity or cut.
For while I thought it sounded a litle cold, and I looked for some replacement pickups, but I couldn't fiand any that fit the existing routs. There were a few out there, but they were more like the basslines--I wanted s a more traditional sound
Recently I put Thomastick jazz rounds on it and, and it made a huge difference. these strings have a LOT of midrange, and they're very light, which made a big difference in the playability of the bass. The active pickups make it dead quiet, and it sounds especially good recorded. It's a very loud bass, with a high output level.
Upsides: Pretty much everything you want in a modern j-bass, without the annoying dead spots, the hiss, and no neck diving. Big meaty tone that takes command of the bottom and really drives a tune. I've played a lot of new J-basses, and this is better by a long ways.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Finish quality is excellent in most respects. No fret buzz, well dressed frets, intonates perfectly. Very tight neck pocket. Has some finish lifting on the edge of the rosewood board. downsides: string spacing is maybe a little tight. It's very heavy. I don't like it that the headstock matches the body. There's a little backlash in one of the shaller tuners. The battery is wrapped in foam and the foam secured with a rubber band--how much expense would it add to at least fit a battery clip in there?
This bass is, I think, in close to the same league with the Laklands, Mike Lull's, maybe even the Sadowsky's, but it's like $1000 less. Hamer seems to have idiots in their marketing department. To prove it, they've discontinued this model. It's a lot of bass for the money if you find one.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
don't know--seems very solid and dependable

Customer Support : No Opinion
don't know

Overall Rating : No Opinion
If it were stolen i'd miss it. It's an excellent, dependable, solid sounding bass. Very well made. I wish it had a passive bypass. Wish it was a little lighter. It doesn't make my heart sing, but it sounds great and plays great
