Nice bass. Modern-type, like Ibanez or similar, etc. but still looks vintage enough for me. Like a LesPaul Junior body. Red/orange burst.
Most importantly, it does not have the smooth, curvey, space-age look.
Read some reviews about loose nuts. Big deal, buy a screw driver.
I took out the rear strap holder, and put a toothpick in there, then replaced it. Tight as can be now. Smooth tuners. Basic bass set-up.

Sound : 8
I like vintage stuff. My first love is a Gretsch Broadkaster Bass. Can't compare to this. I bought this because I was tired of carrying the Gretsch around. The hardcase was real heavy, and I just couldn't see putting a Gretsch in a soft gig bag. Anyway, this has a short-scale, like the Gretsch's medium, and I like that. This was weak at first, but only because I was playing with my fingers at neck pick-up with thumb on fingerboard. By putting my thumb on the neck pick-up, and plucking the strings between the neck and bridge pick-ups the sound is much better/fatter.
The strings feel a bit further apart in this position too, which is good, since I felt cramped in the forward position. The body feels better this way too. At first the body felt way too small, and it IS a small body, but by moving my hand back a bit the bass feels more balanced on the strap.
I'm setting the neck p/u at about 8, and the bridge p/u at about 5. I keep the tone knob pretty low to stay clear of the poppy funk-ish sound of bass. If I want to get more highs, I turn up the bridge p/u, or pull back on the neck p/u and turn up the master on the amp.
I really noticed a difference in sound by where I played on the pick-ups, so fool around with that for awhile, plus knobs, and I think you'll find your sound.
One thing I didn't like was that strings are close to body near p/u's. I used to have a Hagstrom LesPaul body-type, and now Gretsch Broadkaster, and on both the p/u's rise about 1/2 to 3/4 inch above body, which gave plenty of room to pluck strings. On this one, it's a little lower, and different for me. The whole string/body layout is flat rather than "arch-topped", which makes me feel like I'm searching/digging for the middle strings sometimes, but I think that just takes getting used to, rather than being a deficiency in the bass itself.
Also, I would have liked to have a molded body on the top-front of the body where my wrist rests as I pluck the strings. After this thing gets some dings in it I might sand that section down a little.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Low action, short neck, plays just like a guitar. Only gripe is with smallish body, but that's why I bought it in the first place (lighter to carry). Otherwise, very nice action, thin neck, light weight. The thing is, I'm used to playing basses where there's a short scale, but the strings start in the middle of the body - like a guitar, whereas this one has the strings starting at the very back end of the body - like a typical bass. This just feels a little different to me...The balance is slightly different, but I'm getting used to it.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Feels solid enough. I paid $150.00 How picky can I get? Like I said above, when you get it, tighten the screws, just to be safe. Maybe put some wood shreds/splinters or a drop of glue into the straps screws to make then real tight, but otherwise, it's nice right out of the box. Just tune it and play it. I would use it w/o a b/u.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No experience with this yet.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing for about ten years. I started on guiatr then played on a no-name bass that my friend bought from the local barber for ten bucks. Then bought first real bass: Hagstrom 1970s Les Paul type. Real heavy, but really nice bass. Paid $225 for that. That got stolen, so a few years later I bought a Gretsch Broadkaster. Rad the reviews for that one on this site. I haven't posted yet, but I think it is 10s all the way.
So then I bought this one for $140 on the internet. It will not match the sound of my Gretsch, but it is just fine for me. It is light, small, easy to carry to gigs, rehearsal, and shows, and seems like it will last long.

I bought my hamer slammer a year and a half ago at Fretz's music in Souderton PA
it's a 4 string 20 fret bass, black
2 volume one tone dial
I dont know much else about the tech part of the bass guitar
it looks good, but it dents easily

Sound : 7
mine rattles a bit against the frets, but maybe that's because I like to play it really hard... I play with a foot practice amp - band hasn't gotten together yet to play, but when it does we'll get better stuff...
definitely a practice bass, beginner bass (which is what I am, I've been playing for almost 2 years tho)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
all of the dials came loose and wouldn't work, I had to send it back for repairs. the guitar strap holder came out of the bottom, I had to get it screwed back in
not impressive

Reliability/Durability : 4
I don't think it's going to last me very long, only because I like to play hard, but my bass instructor is selling me paul mccartney's first bass guitar - the first Hofner he played before he ordered the left handed bass he's known for. it went from a woman on abbey road to her daughter in london to her boyfriend in law school who sold it to my instructor for $350 to pay off tuition...
but the slammer isn't going to last

Customer Support : No Opinion

I took it to the place I bought it for repairs

Overall Rating : No Opinion
it's a good starter, but I'm really excited about the Hofner. I wouldn't buy another one, I'll probably go for a completely different brand...

Made in South-Korea in 1999. 5 strings, 22 frets, solid alder body with black finish, rosewood fingerboard atop of a 3-piece maple neck, 34" scale, reverse head stock with black finish. The neck is thin and its profile is very comfy (very similar to Ibanez SR necks). The nut of truss rod is too tiny, you can damage it easily! Although the truss rod seems too thin, the action is very good. Two soap bar, active pickups and electronics. Knobs: master volume, blend, treble, bass. Chrome hardware (knobs are black). Brand of hardware is not available, but I have never had problems with it, you do not have to be Schwarzengger to tune this bass. But the alder body makes the bass very heavy.
This Hamer is built well, I was surprised, considering its Korean production! I had a Japaneese Ibanez before, and let me say this, Ibanez quality was not better at all!

Sound : 9
String spacing (16 mm) is a little close but I' ve been a 4 stringer for 13 years. As for the sound, it was OK, beefy and all-round. I had an Ibanez before and its tone was not to my taste. Ibanez tone is too clear, hi-fi, but not punchy and beefy at all. Tone of Hamer is more beefy and punchy. But I was not satisfied with the factory pickups and electronics, they were a bit noisy and I hate any noise, hum. Therefor I installed two EMG DC-40 (dual coil) pickups and BTC electronics (treble/bass). This configuration is versatile, you can control the treble/bass on board. EMG DC gear is great and excellent and its tone is incredible!!! It is ultra quiet, clear, very punchy, beefy and deep. Now, my Hamer axe sounds like a beefed up Fender Jazzbass and cuts through anything! I play rock and blues. Hamer with EMG suits any music style, and technic. To my knowledge, the USA made Hamers are equipped with this EMG too.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Low action, very easy to play. The strings tend to buzz against the frets but it is a second hand bass. The bass does not contain any flaws.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Seems solid enough, I have been owning this bass for 2 years, I had to adjust the truss rod only when I bought the bass and changed over to another type of string set. Different string tension called for neck adjustment.
I use it without backup. Active EMG pickups and BTC control require two 9V batteries because of enhanced headroom.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Second hand bass, warranty has been over.

Overall Rating : 8
I' ve been playing bass for 13 years. I have already had Fender P-bass, Ibanez fretted and Hohner fretless basses. I am satisfied with this bass and Hamer is better than my previous basses. It is a good instrument with EMG indeed.
The only thing I do not like is that the design of body is not so modern. The bridge is not 2Tek, the USA Cruiser is equipped with this bridge and it sounds better. Despite of I like this bass, if it was stolen, I would buy a Warwick Corvette. I think, Warwick is the top, becasue of its sound and design.

i have no idea about anything if it has to do w/ bass guitar. im a beginner and being the ditzy airhead doesnt help. although i have a lot of guy friends that will help me out cuz im a girl (apparently its hot 4 a grl 2 play bass) 2 knobs, 22 frets, 4 strings, thats about all......

Sound : 3
ITS A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!! i have to take it out and resodder it @ least once a week cuz it will stop playing 4 no reason at all and i have to push the volume knob or mess w/ the wires just 4 it 2 play which is impossible cuz i cant play and do that @ the same time.... high notes (esp on g-string) sound awful!!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 2
like i said, CRAP.

Reliability/Durability : 1
cant depend on it. on my first jazz concert, it wouldnt play on most of the songs and then the g-string broke. borrowed my friends Peavey. like it a LOT better!! thank God im getting a new bass guitar.......

I bought this bass used on ebay. Just about all that was wrong with it was that it was dirty. Once i cleaned it, it was like brand new. This thing is a cheap begginers instrument, i laughed when i read the last reviews that people actually paid more that 300 dollars for this thing. I took this thing apart and put it back together, the parts are bare bones quality, and its just generally not a quality instrument. Its a basic 4 string P bass....what else can i say?

Sound : 5
I didnt play this thing until after i cleaned it and put it back together. I didnt even bother playing it with the stock pickups which i could tell just by their weight and appearence sucked major ass. I replaced the pickups with a set of EMG "Selects" that i had (kinda like replacing diarrhea with a turd but oh well). Sound isnt that bad with them, better than the shitty Harmony that i owned prior. The neck needed A LOT of truss adjustment (keep in mind i bought it USED) but when i got it right, it played fine with no buzzing. Stays in tune and intonated pretty well. Based mostly on the discharge envying pickups that it came with, ill have to give this thing a 5 on sound

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
It plays ok. Its no showpiece thats for sure. The chrome is rubbed off in places, there is a substantial gap in the neck joint, the parts are of the lowest possible quality. The finish seems ok though but who cares.

Reliability/Durability : 5
See previous comments.

I dont even no why Harmony Central includes this question. I'm not even keeping this bass for more than a few weeks and its used so who gives a rat's ass?

Overall Rating : 4
I've played guitar for nearly 2 years. I only play bass when i'm working on a recording project. I play thru my guitar amp, ive never even owned a bass amp. Even still, i know my shit and if you spent more than $150 on this bass, new or otherwise, you got ripped BIG TIME. I only bought it to sell it and make a bit of extra cash after i use it to lay down a few bass tracks. Get a Fender or an Ibanez bass if you want to start out. Don't waste your money or time on Hamer or Epiphone, Lotus, Harmony, and Danelectro for that matter.
