This is a 2000 model Slammer. It's a cheap copy of the venerable Fender Precision Bass, made in Indonesia. It's a 4-string, and the strings themselves have a pretty good response. Features aren't spectacular, but it isn't the Fender it copis is it? You get a truss rod, one tone pot and a volume knob. Has a cheap looking pearlish pickguard that appears to be the only one available on Hamer guitars. Neck looks nice though, some kind of wood that i havent determined. Some selaed-back tuners that sound pretty good, actually more stable than the ones on a low end Ibanez(though i'd still buy that over this any day)

In theory it could suit my style of playing,(rock, a little metal), but the pickups REALLY and i mean REALLY let this one down. i have a Roland D-Bass 500 and other basses sound good on it, but there's something about the tone and punch(or lack thereof) that I dont like. it has one measly "Split-P" pickup that Leo Fender pioneered, and a note is just a note. On the upper frets(12-up), the sound begins to turn to a fuzzy, even more toneless hum, especially on the low string. The tone control hasnt got much travel, and isnt very sensitive to input, so either tone's up, or tone's down. Same goes for the volume control, but less so. Getting back to the pickups, the cheap, $2 double-coils could stand to be replaced by some serious Seymour-Duncan or Dimarzio's. At the very least, it could have been somewhat helped if there was a single-coil j-style pickup at the bridge. Also, while i know theyre not humbuckers, they do sound very fuzzy when you arent touching the strings.

Action's ok. neck feel's ok. like i said before, pickups are crap. pretty shiny when i bought it, but the pickguard looks gay.

this thing is pretty durable, if not great-sounding and punchy. the tuners are pretty stable, finish hasnt worn off yet. strap buttons are pretty solid. pretty dependable, but i dont play with the truss rod. no matter what bass i used i wouldnt gig without a backup, but this probably would BE the backup, instead of backing this one up. one major peeve i have about this thing is that thhe already not-great bridge has started to make funny vibrating sounds in response to hitting the high string. i tried to correct it but to no avail, and i certainly dont like that.

I tried calling Hamer about it and got nothing. they suck, and id rather have it repaired at a guitar shop here instead of waste time with them.
