Features : 8
24 Frets
JJ Setup
Volume, Treble, Bass.........Funky 3 way switch
Bubinga with rosewood board

I like everything about this bass....everything. However, I do believe that to love this bass would take a few adjustments that would cost me money in which I do not have. Such as a blend knob instead of a 3 way switch. Tonally, you have three choices....thats it. Just the bridge is too bright....just the neck is mainly what I use however for a good mid scoop you could use the middle position. There is about six time in every 2 hour practice i have in which i wish I could blend some of my pickups together to get the right tone....toobad for me and my broke ass.

For the money.....try and find a better bass.

There is about six time in every 2 hour practice i have in which i wish I could blend some of my pickups together to get the right tone....too bad for me and my broke ass. Tone is full a rich....but like a pbass in that that is the only thing you have.....versitility is limited

I really love this bass...however, for what i am doing, does not complete my needs......i would reccommend this bass to beginners and medium skill level players.....high end players......go get a pedulla, a warrior or a fodera.....maybe a sadowsky...but do you really want a bad ass jazz replica for that much money?

I recently went shopping for a fretted bass. A Sting ray 4-string fretless has been my main bass for a few years. For a number of reasons I decided that I should shop around for a fretted friend. I tried all kind's of basses; Spector, didn't do it for me. Warwick, Ken Smith, Lakland; too expensive. Alembic; the newer models don't do it for me, the older; too expensive. Dean did not do it for me. Ibanez is reasonable, but still no sparks. I walked into a friend's music store with the intention of buying a $12 dollar guitar string purchase. I walked out in 30 minutes with much more. I knew Hamer made good guitars. My friend being one of the largest Hamer dealers in the state I was familiar with the quality. However, I tried out one of the two Hamer basses that he had on the wall. What caught my eye was the look at first. I picked it up and the thing seemed to be playing me. My search was over. I was sold in two minutes!

The Velocity-2 is incredibly easy to play. The 34" scale-neck is a bonus. The body is crafted from a single piece of Bubinga wood. It features a beautiful 5-piece, laminated bolt-on neck with a Rosewood fretboard. I was looking for something with a lot of range. With two J-style, active pick-ups I am able to go from incredibly bright to pant-filling low and punchy. I have played the V-2 through my Crate B-x160. My Hartke 3,500 4x10 and my friends Ampeg SVT cab. Also once through an Ibanez combo. The bass is incredibly versatile and makes everything that I have played it through sound better.

When I bought the bass there was a lot of buzzing at the nut. Since the owner of the store was a friend he threw in a free set up, a hardshell case and a very generous discount. After the set-up it sounded great. The action is not too low and not too high. The bubinga body is beautiful. There was one flaw. One of the EQ pots was crackling a tiny bit around the middle position. Any bass player knows that a little crackling through a loud amp is very annoying! He cleaned the pots out and it sounded good for a day but started crackling again. I have not cleaned it myself or taken it apart. However, this was the only problem I encountered.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have had the bass for a little over two month's. I have played 6 shows in that time through different amps. The finish has held up great so far. Depending on the musicians and the asthetics of the music, I mainly like the full sound that I get at lower volumes than live with any guitar. However, this bass rock's the cat's ass loud! I can go from rock to jazz to funk with a few small twists of the EQ knobs on the bass. The bass feels like a solid piece. Usually I prefer neck-through's if given the choice. But this bass is man's bass.

Besides the set-up, I have not had to make any adjustments. Since I know the owner of the music store that I bought it from, and he is a certified Hamer dealer, I am confident that I could get a better deal on repairs than the factory would offer.

The initial reason that I made the decision to purchase the Hamer V-2 over all of the other basses that I had tried was the way that it felt when I played it. It felt like home. I have a late-80's model P-bass and a Music Man Sterling, 4-string fretless, 93' model. I was looking for a new fretted bass because I wanted more punch and I don't want to replace the neck on my beloved fretless anytime soon. I used to have a Peavey T-40 with twin humbuckers, which I enjoyed. That bass is one of the heaviest basses that I have strapped-on. The clincher of the deal was the price. He had it listed at $999.99. Total I ended up getting the V-2, hardshell case, strings and set-up, out-the-door for $585.00! The price was a bonus. I wouldn't spend $200.00 on a bass that I didn't feel enhanced my music-playing enjoyment.
