if you are looking for a deep basic pbass blues sound it can hang; but the bass lacks in versatility compared other guitars that are out there, i tried flatwounds and just gave a horrible thuddy sound, but running thru a fender amp it does not sound have bad, but there is better sounds out there.
i think i am going to defret the thing...why not? ...if i mess it up there is no real loss, i bought it 4 years and learned to play the bass on it...i got my moneys worth

these things sell thru the sears robbuck catalogs (enough said)....

the only thing i had to repair was the grounding wire ....i would not mind using it in a gig, but i would borrow one of my friend basses..just because of the lack of sound (diverse sound)
...it is not dependable

I dont know what these other guys were talking about
i get the most lowest of lows with these two basses
I recorded in the studio with them and play live often.

The action on these bad boys is really low and its great for playing fast.

Withstand live playing?
I play some pretty aggresive hardcore type music and have beaten the ever living crapola out of these things and they still play like new...many a chunk of wood is missing and lots of dents and what have yous
the only thing i would say is that you shoudl replace the straplocks if you're going to be swinging it around and playing aggressively

My friend has one of these. It may be the worst bass I've ever played. 20 frets, volume and tone knobs, passive electronics. This thing is probably made out of balsa wood--it is so pathetic.
Sound

Sounds like crap. Doesn't put out any bass, sounds extremely dead. There is no way you could try slapping on this bass.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Strings are really low, intonation is way off and practically impossible to fix, has a general all-around crappiness.
Anyone who ever played a real crap bass knows exactly what this is like. It is utterly pathetic--you can barely even do a hammer-on on it.

Reliable? No. Durable? No. The good news is that you can't really break it. It would sound about the same in two pieces. I would laugh really hard if anyone played a gig with this thing.

My friend got the worst deal ever. I told him to take me along when he got his first bass, but he didn't listen. This is what he gets. This bass is torture. I don't know if I'd get one if it was free.
I would not recommend this to anyone. If you want a really cheap starter bass, get a Rogue, Squier, I don't know--anything but this bass.

Just a basic bass, black w/ black pickguard. A thumb rest for playability, gold/bronze hardware ( bridge, knobs, tuners) stock pickups. Maple neck/ fretboard. Looks just like a Fender P-bass. Probably plywood body. Kinda heavy. Or could be mahogany but I sincerely doubt it. Black gloss. I bought it used so there were dings and knicks along the back of the body and back of neck. Gives it "character"!!! Feels ok to play; length of neck feels similiar to a Fender. Std. width. I bought it used online for $45. Only 3 strings on this thing. The 4th bridge saddle is missing and I'm looking for a replacement.

Well, no variety whatsoever. The pickups, as with all factory wound overseas junk, is just that. Put in some decent pickups and then we'll talk....

This isn't so bad. The finish, as how I received the guitar, wasn't so bad. Playable. I raised the saddle ever so slightly, and it was ok. No flat areas on the neck. Nut cut was ok.

This bass was made/ sold in the early to mid 80s. I remember the Penneys catalogs that had these things. So, if it has lasted 15-20 yrs to date, probably will be around for awhile longer. Finish is poor, but all imported shite is. Hardware, hmm, missing a saddle. Could spend a couple hundred bucks on pickups, bridge, tuners, etc.... and still have a Harmony piece o' shite. :). I personally wouldn't gig with this. Well, maybe if the club was REALLY DARK!!!!!!

Just wanted a kickaround bass and got it. Have a OLD Dimarzio bass pickup. So, I'll install that. Then, maybe it'll sound ok. I have a funky no name bass with that Dimarzio. I paid $30 from the same outfit. That bass didn't work out so I bought the Harmony for $45. I'll take the best parts from the 1st bass and put it to the Harmony. Then it might be something. If you find these cheap like I did, get one. I'm just a guitar player wanting to mess around on the bass. Not out much. :). That's all

This bass is a bit of a mystery to me - it is roughly strat shaped, has a short scale fretted neck, one oblong pick-up, one volume and one tone knob, and two-a-side machineheads on the headstock.
Features all seem fairly cheapy, but do their job.
And it's brown, by the way.
Sound

Not a very loud bass, and the low string keeps going out of tune. Quite a bit of rattle when playing higher up on the neck, but quite a mellow sound overall.

All pretty bad! Tuning as noted above, rattle as noted above, and the action is all over the place.

It would withstand live playing if I was mad enough to take it on stage. The build itself is sturdy enough - I got the bass at least second hand and it has survived its knocks well.

I can't trace them at all - I know that Harmony Est 1892 is different to Harmony. Or at least that's what I've been told.

Despite the moans above, I give it a 6 overall: the guitar was pretty cheap and looks a lot different to your usual budget basses. I have fun playing it, and it is only really a sideline compared to my guitar playing.
If anyone can tell me any more about the company who made this, I'd be really interested.
