This is the Hohner B2 Professional Bass, which is a 4 string, 24 fret, headless and bodiless bass, with neck-thru design and 2 hum-cancelling pickups with passive electronics. 2 volume and 1 tone control and the steinberger bridge round out this bass. Perfect for a passive electronics bass.

I have been looking for that perfect bass sound for many years, and I found it with this bass. No actives needed. I have run this bass thru my various amps with FLAT EQ, and it sounds consistently great in all! NO EFFECTS NEEDED! I am running this bass straight into my bass amps with no effects. It just sounds awesome! Even running it directly into the sound board at the studio or on the road, with or without a simple direct-box, it sounds awesome. It has the best of James Jamerson's sound...even with round-wound strings!!! Whether rolling a low-end groove or tapping out harmonics, it all sounds great!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought this bass used, so I can not comment on how it arrived from the factory. However, it is very easy to setup with a minimum of tools. From what I can see, there were no apparent flaws at all. It looks great and feels great!!!

Reliability/Durability : 10
As I said, I bought this bass used. It has been on the road alot, and it is very durable. The double ball strings stay in tune very well. All of these Steinberger type basses put the strap pin behind the neck, and the end pin on the top tail-piece shoulder. I moved the neck strap button from the back of the neck, to the top shoulder and it balances much better, and feels great! This is the gold standard by with all of my other basses are measured as far as sound, reliability, playability, and dependability. This is one very solid bass!!!

Customer Support : 10
Yes, I have called customer service for technical questions and to order replacement output jacks. The folks at Hohner are very helpful and friendly. Awesome support that is knowledgable!!! That is refreshing!!!

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 18 years on and off, and of all of the basses I have owned, this is my favorite! I own the B2, the B2V and "The Jack"! These will never leave me!!! They just plain sound awesome! I have played and owned many basses (Kramer, Spector, Peavey, Fender, Gibson, Ibanez and more), but this one is definately the best of them all! I will definately own Hohner B2 basses and work with them till the day I join that great jam session in the sky!!! Until then...keep them basses groovin'!!! Great job Hohner!!!

this bass sports a headless neck and with steinberger licensed bridge. all maple body and neck with a rosewood fretboard. passive and very clean electronics. two humbuckers and 24 frets.

i really have fell in love with this bass. it didn't take more than a day to get adjusted to the feel of this bass. i found the playability to be amazing over a full body bass. after playing it at practice one night and not using any of the equalizer on my amp, i understand now why these are favored so much for studio use.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
i bought this bass used so i had do some adjusting on the neck and raise and lower the pickups the way i like. but like i said it took about a day to get used to the feel of this bass and after that the playability amazed me.

Reliability/Durability : 10
the one i bought is probably well over 10 years old, so i know it has held up during that time.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to deal with customer support.

i've been playing bass for 13 years and have always loved ernie ball basses and i currently own an ernie ball sterling, if you've played ernie ball basses you know they are top of the line instruments. as far as comparison of two, i'd have to say they're just way too different to compare but i enjoy my hohner b2 just as much. i have after hearing this bass that i understand how steinberger basses can get away with an aluminum body. the electronics are immaculate.

Fantastic sound because it's a well built bas and gives me a variety in the sound palettes.

This bass has two humbuckers. A three way tumble-swich to select pickups. Two tone knobs and a volume knob. The electronics are passive. Body is small and jet black as well as the bridge, the pickups and the controls. The bass came with a self-made case that survived being driven over by a car. The neck is thin enough for my small hands and the bass is really lightweight.

I bought this because I was looking for a real reggae bass with a good LOOOOW. The humbuckers deliver a full round low without any noise. There's three-way tumble switch that selects the neck-element, bridge-element or both. I like to play with just the neck-element selected for the warmest sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I bought the bass third- or perhaps even fourth-hand. It still looks very good though and there's only one minor little dent in the paint on the back. The action is silky smooth and although I'm a small guy with small hands, it allows me to use my pinky finger while playing, which I can't manage on my P-bass. The bass stays tuned like nothing else between sessions and the Steinberger tuning mechanism on the bridge makes retuning so easy.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Given that this bass still looks and plays like a new instrument, I have a lot of confidence in it's quality.

Never dealt with customer support.

I've been playing bass for about 2,5 years now. Besides this Hohner, I own a Squier Affinity Precision Bass and a Peavey Microbass amp. This Hohner is the nicest bass I've ever played and I'd absolutely hate to lose it. I'd like to have a second one just in case...or perhaps a real Steinberger!
