My Hondo H815 bass is made in China. It has split pick-ups similar to those on a Fender precision. This is a short scale (3/4) bass that is well-suited to guitar players who occasionally play bass. The frets are relatively thin, especially compared to full-scale basses. The tuners are non-locking, sealed, die-cast. There aren't a lot of frills but everything works quite nicely.

The previous reviewer mentioned a muddy sound. I suspect his amp may have had something to do with that. When this bass was recently played though a professional Ampeg head and a speaker cabinet with 8x10, it sounded great. Numerous veteran musicians were gathered for a jam in Illinois with players from as far away as Texas and Michigan. All of the guitar players and two well-respected bass players remarked on what a great buy it was for the money. I am first and foremost a six string player, but the little Hondo was used by several guys. They loved it. Two players have since ordered their own for back-ups and jams, etc.
Its not a Fender classic but it costs $130 new!!!

The bass came ready to play right out of the box. The pickups were well adjusted. The frets did not need dressing. Of course it was shipped with loose strings to protect the integrity of the neckl. All I had to do was tune it up.

It withstood one night of live playing but who knows??? For $130, I cannot expect too much. It has a solid feel though...

I have played guitar for about 45 years. I just dabble with bass..
I would certainly buy another if something happened. For an inexpensive little bass for guitar players or beginners, it is a heckuva value.

This is the bass I bought to start out on. It has bare minimum features. Made in 2000, 4 string, 20 frets. It has passive P-Bass pickups that sound kinda muddy, but hey this is a beginners bass so you can't ask for much. It has a rosewood fretboard that plays surprisingly smooth. Doesn't seem to come out of tune even after serious playing. I believe this bass isn't full size, for people with small fingers. It has two knobs, one volume, and one tone.

I am running through a Crate Bx-100 and I can make the bass sound decent by fooling around with the Eq on my amp. You can't get any variety of sounds out of it, tone knob doesnt do much at all. Ok for playing rock or alternative. Again it's just a beginners bass.

Probably the best feature of this thing, it's neck plays very smooth. The finish on mine is black and I seen no flaws when I bought it. The pickguard was also black, a very sharp looking bass when I 1st bought it. It has been through some rough times now. (O well that just gives it character.

This thing is indestructable. It has been dropped numerous times, scratched repeatdly, and has withstood every bit of it. It was my begginning bass so you know it took quite a bit of punishment. Nuff said!

This is an ok bargain if your a beginner, otherwise you better look for a different bass. Pickups are pretty much crap, and u can only get one tone out of them. The neck plays very smooth though. This thing can really take some punishment too. Hondo built this like a rock.
