Ibanez AEB10, not sure on the year, but it's got to be at least a couple years old. Mine has the AEQ SS preamp and just a 1/4" output jack, and the new ones have the AEQ SST preamp (with onboard tuner) and the output has a plate with 1/4" and XLR out. 32" scale, Fishman Sonicore pickup, mahagony body sides, back, and neck, spruce top, rosewood fretboard and bridge, Gotoh style tuners, and a lot of binding. Single cut acoustic body. I believe these use to come with hardshell cases, which I wish it had; the sale price on an Ibanez AEB50C is ~$120.

Sound : 10
Warm acoustic sound, pretty much what you'd expect from any acoustic bass that's not a Taylor. The mahogony keeps it a bit darker. When I plugged it in, I was able to get rather warm tones that mimic the acoustic sound quite nicely, plus I was able to get that sizzly tone that's made me hate acoustic/electrics since the 90's.

Bottom line: great acoustic sound for cheap.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I got this thing used and it needs an adjustment, but the fit and finish are nice. The binding is quite a nice touch along with the abalone rosette. The fret work is nice as well.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This lasted through my guitarist buying it used, and tossing it around and letting his kids play with it. If it can survive that; it should be able to withstand a nuclear holocaust.

Customer Support : 5
Not too sure about Ibanez customer support, they don't really have concact info anywhere. Basically the only customer support is the dealers.

Overall Rating : 9
Been playing since 1992 and this is the first acoustic bass I've ever actually owned. The only acoustic bass I've ever played that really stood out to me soundwise was a Taylor, but I can't see investing that much in an acoustic bass, when I never really use them live. For the price, this is a decent bass, it would be an even better deal if they still threw in the case though.

I have this bass in black. It's a 2007. Pretty standard features, hardware seems to hold up well. The 1/4" output is a little cheap, however; it just seems really loose. I don't even use it anymore because it the cable moves around and it cuts out. Now I just use the XLR out. It has the standard Fishman pre-amp which does pretty good for tone shaping. I do appreciate the built-in tuner; it works well.

Sound : 7
Unplugged, it sounds good, especially with fresh strings. Nice and bright with a defined bottom (I use DR Phosphor Bronze strings). Decently loud; holds up to an acoustic guitar. Plugged in, it sounds pretty warm and thick. I guess you could say it gets somewhat muddy if you turn it up loud. I mainly use it for practice, but it doesn't sound bad.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The factory set-up was good. The action isn't too bad, however I do have it tuned a half step down just because I though that the string tension was a bit high at standard tuning; it just makes it a bit easier to play. I am able to tune down with little or no fret buzz, which is good. I did not see any flaws when I got this bass.

Reliability/Durability : 8
As for reliability, I'm not sure that I would trust this bass live just because of the issue I had with the output jack. I do think that this bass is very durable though. I have dropped this bass numerous times, and once I even fell on top of it, and it has never broken or cracked at all (it even stayed in tune). The neck is still in great condition; I have never adjusted the truss rod.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not dealt with Ibanez customer support.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing for about five years and I have had this bass for about two. It has been a great bass for practice and just jamming with an acoustic guitar. The only issue I have had with this bass is with the output jack, but I guess its not really that big of a deal to me since it has the XLR out as well. It gets the job done!

I have the black version.. I'm unsure of what exact materials it has in it.. really didn't care for the price I paid for it ($200)

I baby my guitars, this still looks new

Sound : No Opinion
Now that I'm an old guy.. my 1000 watt and wall of speakers are not as impressive as a good clean sound.

I actually run all my bases through a Peavey Reknown w/2x12s.. I can run to another cabinet if necessary.

Back to the sound.. it has the cool thump to it.. took me a few hours to figure out how to get a good dependable sound.

HINT - put a hole plug into it..

I play country honkey tonk.. it stands right up there with my custom shop basses.

My next experiment is to put flat wounds on it to see how close it will come to upright.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
action is quick. I'm a playability freak.. I'm spoiled.. have custom shop peavey stuff from the "good ol days" after playing super fast pencil sized necks, it's nice this bass doesn't have a the chunkowood neck

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I've played live a few times.. dependable... never broken a string..

Since it's acoustic.. pop a few bucks and get a hard case - only goofballs use gig bags

Customer Support : No Opinion
never needed them.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've played for abotu 25 years... this is suprisingly good for $200.

Mine is earlier without the tuner.. I don't really care as own a peterson strobe

Stays in tune

Single cutaway, Medium scale, Spruce top, mahogany back, sides & neck. Rosewood bridge & fretboard. Pre amp & tuner, Fishman bridge pickup. The XLR output is a plus.

Sound : 5
I had small expectations with this bass sonically, acoustically it was surprisingly, loud given the comapactness of the body. Through a small trannie amp it produced an acceptable array of tones via the pre- amp, a little boxy/ nasaly, good for acoustic type shows, although through a large rig it loses alot of definition.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The setup (for me) was spot on, the smaller scale makes it easy to play. Like the body size. The finish was generally good although the back of the neck fingerprinted easily. Love the rosewood bridge.

Reliability/Durability : 9
After 3 years of use the bass has held up well & shows no signs of ware. The tuning pegs are starting to discolor but nothing to worry about. Neck is perfect. I play this bass every day & am very pleased with it's durability.

Been playing on & off since 1979, own several (alot) of hollow body basses, a horrible 70's P bass, an old peavey & an 1880 German stand-up bass. Played alot of acoustic basses before I bought the Ibanez, most of them were badly made & many were unplayable. I would replace this bass if it was lost/ stolen beacsue it's so useable (at home/ studio). The medium scale is a smart design feature very practical. The pre- amp/ tuner doesn't excite me don't see the need I have an amp that will do a better job.

Ibanez has two acoustic basses on the market, the AEB8 and the AEB10, the music store I went to had both, so I got to run 'em off side by side. The AEB10 is Made in China, four string with frets on a 32" scale (shame its not a 34" like my SRX300, only thing I don't like about this bass actually). The 10 has better wood than the 8, I think its a spruce top and mahogany sides. The built-in tuner was a definite plus and it has Fishman sonicore pickups and AA battery driven 'tronics. Closed in tuners. You'd think made in china is bad, but I think they've done a good job with this one.

Sound : 8
I really liked it. It's got great volume unplugged, unlike the El Seg. which is quiet as a mouse. I actually got it to play unplugged with acoustic guitars so this was important for me. Plugged into an amp though, it sounds fantastic (I tested on a Roland Cube 30, which will be my next purchase :) ), lots of power and the EQ does a good job at cleaning up the tone.

I haven't had a chance to go to serious work on the sound yet, I'll save that for a later review. Better than anything else I played though. BTW, the Fender acoustic was by far the worst of the lot, I was seriously shocked.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this baby was high, even compared to the AEB8, but I don't mind a high action as I have it like that on my electric too. Seemed pretty well set up otherwise (as much as you can with an acoustic) and there definitely seems to be an eye for detail with Ibanez on this one, I test-drove more expensive acoustics that seemed much more cheaply made. So far I'm really happy, finish on the 10 is clearly better than the 8. Tapered back, better wood, nicer finish.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This feels like a pretty tough bass, gimme a year and I'll report back on durability, I'm posting now because there's nothing on here about this model. The tuners are enclosed which is a plus, the bridge pins look solid too. Strap buttons are solid as and I'd trust them having owned a SRX300 for a year now.

I'd hedge my bets on this going the distance.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Warranty is 1 year, hopefully I won't need it.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 2.5 years now, so I'm hardly Claypool but I know a bit of what I'm after. I also own an Ibanez SRX300 and I'm becoming a bit of an Ibanez man I'd say, just like their gear. Currently have a crap-chute Ashton BA15 amp, but they both sound good through it.

I'd buy it again if it magically disappeared, my favorite features are the built-in tuner and the good volume unplugged. The only grip I have is its not a 34" neck, oh for two extra inches :)

I played 10 acoustics before chosing this one (incl. an Epi El segundo and El capitan, a completely sh*thouse Fender that was an embarrassment to the Fender name, a 'legend', some breedloves and a few others, was looking for a Martin but couldn't find one.
The AEB10 won hands down on everything above by a country mile. It was also cheaper, I picked it up for $A650 and the others were more incl. the terrible Fender which was $A800!

VS. its little brother the AEB8, you can spot the better wood, I like the colour more (plain black is boring unless you're a goth) and although you can't see it, the neck 'feels' much better, more skinny and flat like a proper ibanez. The extra $A200 for the AEB10 was worth every cent, but its hard to hear the difference, esp. plugged in. You can just hear it unplugged though, sounds more woody.
