Punchy, "in-your-face" sound. The 3 band equaliser provides you with almost any sound you need

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Although the bass is mid 90's, it looked almost brand new. The only thing I had to do was replacing the screws of the straplocks.
Besides that, it was in excellent condition.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I have this bass only 2 months, first gig will be in a few weeks. I wil not use it without a back-up. I always use a backup. Nevertheless, the bass looks and feels solid.

Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 9
I never thought I would like an atk. First time I saw it was in a music store 3 months ago. The bass looks quite clumsy, but I decided to give it a try. After plugging it in and playing, I could not believe how smooth it played and how powerfull it sounded!
Just try the bass, you will be amazed!

Made in Japan in the early nineties I think. Alder body with koa top. Transparent gloss natural finish. Transparent pickguard. Bolt-on three piece hard maple neck with maple fingerboard, angled headstock. It sports an Ibanez triple coil MM-style PU. Electronics are active with volume/treble/mids/bass ports and a three way selector to switch between three PU's coils combinations: classic, attack or bright. It can be strung either top-loaded (through the bridge) or through the body. Massive bridge for better transient's transmission to the body.

Solid sound. It's very versatile ranging from fundamental rock tone to slapping nightmare. A player's bass. It welcomes your playing technique whether it is aggresive or soft. It's a great working tool and I use it extensively both with my cover and original band. The backdrift about being that versatile is that you can't really tell it has got a noticeable "personal" tone. It lacks a bit of warmth compared to my passive jazzbass, although it has way more punch and "balls".

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I bought it 2nd hand and the poor thing was in a horrendous condition. Luckyly the neck could be straightened and it plays beautifully now. The body had some dings and some finish cracks from laying around in a dark and humid warehouse for two years without even the protection of a gig bag. Some minor rust on the hardware.

Reliability/Durability : 8
A workingman's bass. It can deal with almost any musical genre. It is not that heavy (compared to my ash-body jazzbass) and the balance is good. The bass is built to endure a century. I changed the original straplocks for schallers and I had use different (wider & longer) screws because the stock ones were a bit wider than the schaller's. Solid bass overall.

Haven't dealt with Ibanez so far.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing bass for nearly 6 years and since I joined the cover band I was looking for a good "workingman's bass" so I didn't have to risk my jazzbass in some venues. This axe has by far surpassed my needs and expectations. Solid woodwork, hassle-free electronics and avobe-average playability for the money. When I bought it I had my doubts about it being able to be played again. Experience has shown me not only it plays well: it can endure extreme conditions and it welcomes the player that takes care of it.
