2008 model. Made in Japan. 22 fret. Swamp ash body w/quilted maple top, "Moon Blue" dyed finish that is really nice. 5-piece laminated maple/walnut neck with flamed maple fingerboard. The figuring in the fingerboard is actually quite nice -- I'm surprised they didn't use this maple for a laminated body top. Controls include volume, 3-band EQ pre. There is a 3-way toggle switch that is supposed to act as a style switch, but the impact on the tone is good in the studio. It takes the tone from a MM kind of feel to a J-bass kind of feel. The bass has a single Ibanez triple-coil pickup that produces tone like a MusicMan and a Jazz bass. The shape of the body is more like a Fender P-bass than anything else I can think of to compare it too. Massive bridge strings through body. Traditional looking "clover leaf" tuners look nice with this bass. 34" scale, pudgy neck (not fat, but definitely not thin). No accessories included.

Sound : 9
I play in studios where I live for clients who do not have bass players, so I am required to be a versitile player and have versitile equipment.

There is a 3-way toggle switch that is supposed to act as a style switch, but the impact on the tone is good in the studio. It takes the tone from a MM kind of feel to a J-bass kind of feel. You can imagine how many styles of music you can play this bass with. The bottom has great growl, and the highs are crisp and present without being harsh. The mids are nice and burpy due to the swamp ash body. This bass sounds good live or in the studio, but tends to perform better in a studio setting for some reason. I'm not sure why, but I've noticed this... The bass is heavy! If you have back problems, you will definitely want to play this bass before buying it.

I purchased this bass on clearance from Musician's Friend, which can sometimes mean small cosmetic issues. The bass arrived in new condition. It was set up perfectly from Ibanez with the exception of the pickup height. It may be my style of playing, but the strings were hitting the pickup. I adjusted the 4 pickup screws down a bit and that remedied the problem.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have used this bass a lot!! :) I have never had any problems with this bass.

Limited lifetime warranty from Ibanez.

I got incredibly lucky with this bass in the deal that I got! The bass sold new with an Ibanez MSRP of $980, sold new through many vendors for around $750, and I got the bass, gigbag, straploks, a leather strap, and a new set of strings for right around $360!!! There was no way that I could pass up this deal! Knowing what the MSRP was from Ibanez, I figured this was not piece of junk. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived at my house and my expectations were totally exceeded! Good work Ibanez!

Made in Japan. 22 frets, 4-string. Light ash body w/quilted maple top and dark blue dye (GORGEOUS). Single pickup design, featuring the Ibanez triple-coil pickup (MM configuration). Active 3-band EQ. The body is a "traditional" body; it reminds my of a P-bass body, but is more well balanced. String through body bridge design; the bridge is a big bridge, wrapping around the triple-coil pickup. The extra mass is great because it lends more sustain, better tone, and better attack and presence. 34" scale. Modern C feeling neck made of maple with two walnut laminates running the length of the neck. Only suggestion for improvement would be to add a J-pickup at the neck.

This bass is very versatile. The three way pickup selector switch makes a world of a difference while playing. I use it mid song. The bottom setting attack mode which is a 2 coil humbucking is EXCELLENT for a great rich slap sound. I switch between the top and bottom setting while playing soul to squeeze for instance, during the heavy slap segment i drop the switch and it sounds like a different bass. Amazing. The body style is fat and funky, the head stock is nice a big and evens out this big bass, and the tuners are huge and chrome and look great. The truss rod is located on the body end, which i find so much more convenient being there is no cover.

The one thing that is tough to get used to is the bridge and pickup set up. It is almost seamless so there is no great place to rest your thumb. I am debating installing a maple thumb rest closer to the neck. I guess this is the only thing about the guitar i wasn't 100% pleased with. finding a place to rest your thumb is do-able, but not as comfortable as it could be. I still give the bass a 9 in features though.

I dont think ibanez gets enough credit for the quality of their instruments. This is probably b/c they carry such a low price/quality line under the same name, where as fender and gibson took on squier and epiphone respectively. The sound is awesome. This bass is huge and so is the tone. I never owned a bass with a selector switch, and contrary to some other reviews i read, it does make a big difference when switching. I would say my only complaint, compared to my other basses is that the low end on the active eq could be a little more powerful. I definitely switch over to my BTB for reggae bass. This is a funky bass, but is capable of having a jazzy sound as well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Incredible. Gorgeous is the only way to describe this bass. Whenever a girl comes over to watch us practice they always say they like this bass the best. Its "pretty" and that is fine by me. I own the all maple one. one thing to note though. If you order online, the blue one is A LOT darker in person. Its not electric like in the picture. Where the flammed maple top meets the rest of the body there is a dark line going all the way around which for some reason gives it a look of just utter quality and expense, haha. The maple/wall nut 5pc neck just looks sharp. The maple fret board is soooo much better looking than rosewood in my opinion. Just a pleasure to own.

The action was actually a tiny bit too low, which is actually refreshing. The neck is a tank and it only took one half crank to raise the action to where i needed it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Built like a tank. The tuners are massive and open backed, the bridge is solid, and body through with big ferrules on the back. This bass can definitely suit all your needs for one gig, but just make sure you can handle the weight. After playing this bass for an hour and switching to one of my other i feel like i have a toy in my hands. This is a serious bass. I love the weight and size, makes it feel even more expensive/powerful.

I got a 2 year warranty through musicians friend, but I really doubt I will ever need to use it. This was the first time I ordered a guitar through mail, so i think i got the warranty just to make sure there were no problems once i got it. we all know how ups/fed ex/etc. can be. I own 5 ibanez guitars now and have always been impressed with their quality, and have actually never had to contact them for anything.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass for about 10 years. I own an Ibanez ATK700, Ibanez BTB 300qm, and Ibanez SDGR 550, a Fender jazz mim, and an ESP Viper.

One thing people say about this bass is that it is too similar to a stingray. I agree it does borrow some design attributes, but this base is one in its own. I played them both side by side at sam ash before i bought mine, and there really isn't much different besides, weight(atk is heavier, heavier feels more expensive) an the name. And to be honest, I always felt that the controls on stingrays are kind of cheap. Im sure ill catch heat for that one, but its my honest opinion. I love ibanez basses because A) they are all beautiful. some of the best designs ever. and B) they all have their own unique sound. You wont be disappointed. Oh, and i got mine for $299. This was the lux model of the atk300 that they still make, they discontinued this model. Orig price was between 700-800.

It's been several months now since getting this bass and I've really grown to love it even more. I've been through several jam/recording sessions and auditions and the first question asked after pulling this bass out of it's case is "What kind of bass is that? I've never seen anything like it... it's gorgeous". Then after a few minutes of playing I get nothing but compliments on it's sound. I'm so glad that the general collective of bass-heads is unaware of this Ibanez offering... it'll keep prices of the 100, 300, 400, 500 and 700 series ATK basses low, allowing me to amass a collection of this incredible instrument. Whatever you bassists do, don't buy one. Let me collect them all. It's The Ampeg A*B-1 or Danelectro Longhorn with regards to "exclusivity" of this generation... but
J-Bass like in it's versatility. ;-)

The features rating is a little goofy if you ask me. For instance I'm not going to give a p-bass a rating of 2 because I was expecting j-bass features. Therefore I am giving the ATK a 10 because it has the features I bought it for... duh.

Neck: 5pc ATK4 Maple/Walnut neck
NeckType: ATK4
Body: Light Ash body/ Quilted Maple top
Frets: Medium frets
Fingerboard: Birdseye Maple
Inlay: Black Dot
Bridge: ATK 4 bridge
NeckPU: ATK triple coil pu
EQ: ATK 3-band eq w/Tone character sw
HWcolor: Chrome

Sound : 10
I find the ATK to be an extremely versatile bass with a wide range of voices suitable to many different music styles. I play pizzicato, with plectrum and also slap and the ATK suits all three methods of playing. I can't say that the ATK can sound like a j-bass, p-bass, Ric, StingRay, T40 or whatever since they all have their very own distinct voices but I will say that the ATK is certainly not a copy of any of these other fine basses... the ATK is in a class all it's own.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Setup from the dealer was almost perfect. Granted, action is purely subjective and is easily adjusted to suit the owner's preference but intonation was spot on. The fingerboards rolled edges were a very nice touch and fretwork is of the highest workmanship. The neck pocket is tight and all hardware is properly positioned and absolutely flush with their mounting surfaces. The quilted maple top and birdseye maple neck are absolutely gorgeous and the clearcoat adds clear glassy depth to the wood's grain. This is a boutique level bass at a relatively modest price.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I haven't owned my ATK for very long but the build quality, hardware and wood selection indicate that it's not just a bass but an heirloom. I've owned my Ibanez SR400 for 10 years and it has never let me down so I don't foresee myself ever bringing a backup to the ATK.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with Ibanez's CSR so i can't give a rating.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing, building and hot-rodding basses for 25 years and have a slight bias towards Leo Fender's designs. During the two and a half decades I have become a huge fan of Ibanez basses for their innovation, build quality and value. I was looking for a professional quality bass that offered versatility, a certain level of simplicity (one pickup), on-board EQ, a thick solid neck and good looks. The ATK suits me to a "T". Not only is it well built, versatile and beautiful but it's also a very unique entry in the bass market... something I felt worth mentioning due to the many ludicrous claims of the ATK being a StingRay copy even though the ATK has as much in common with it as it does with a Big Block Precision. The ATK is a highly overlooked Ibanez offering with the same qualities that made the Precision, Jazz, StingRay and T40 such revered icons as all around solid workhorses.
