This bass is very solid and well-featured. I picked it up used for 1/2 of the msrp, still looking brand new. The 3-band EQ is very responsive and versatile, but watch the sweep control for the mid- if it gets at all dirty it doesn't work too well- regular maintenance and tlc should keep it working fine. My 600 has the pewter finish, which looks fab, and holds up well- not being fully familiar with it, I took it on stage first time wearing a belt, and because the EDB fits so close to the body at waist height, the buckle scarred it up badly--- and my tech had it looking great again in an hour! Tough seems like a good description. My tech says that it is extremely friendly to work on, and all adjustments are easy and highly effective-(amateur bass techs may find it touchy-- take it to a pro). The active pickups are very good for stockers, and the body lends itself to comfortable extended play. The neck? FAST! Fast and easy- I have carpal tunnel, and have not had any trouble since getting this guitar. From the store their were a few buzzy frets- also dealt with easily by the tech. Intonation is spot- on right to fret 24, and the bolt-on neck is surprisingly stable. I think the most pleasant surprise is that Luthite stuff- sounds like expensive wood, and is tough like nails.
Sound

I play a lot of different stuff- from classic Metal (Judas Priest) and Rock (Kiss, AC/DC) to Country, Blues, and Funk. The wide variety of tones available has helped me eliminate stomp boxes entirely- except for the backup bass which needs them to keep up to the Ergo. Controls are very quiet for active- wicked sheilding is included, but if you rail the high end knob there is some hiss introduced, but it sounds like crud that way anyhow- almost flat with a bit of the low added, and play with the mids is the most effective. My stage sound has never been too much of an issue for me, but I use a Yorkville Stage 120b, and I am no longer looking for a new amp! Might need a new 15" that can handle all the lows better, tho. The direct sound is fantastic- live Techs have always loved it, and recording recently, the engineer
said that the only reason he compressed it was due to the player. The EDB went to DAT with the strip flat- on-board eq was plenty. We ran it thru an Octaver for a sow tune, and I think it sounded about as good as anything I've ever heard. One beef I do have is the strap buttons- they LOOK like strap-locks, but they didn't fit the Schaeller system, and Ibanez used such monster screws to put them on that we had to drill the lock buttons to use them- Schaeller stock screws were too small.

Getting this bass used, I have no idea what the factory settings were like, but my tech suspects that the 3 buzzy frets were factory original. It came with a Plastic nut, but took to Graphite easily. There is a small spot on the headstock where the finish looks --different somehow, and like I said, keep the controls clean or they sound awful. But who likes crunchy pots anyhow?

Everything about this bass is tough- and I plan to have it for a very long time. So far I have never had any trouble of any sort- although if I do, I will surely tell all.

Ibanez has been very helpful in reference to the guitar- they even found it's pedigree for me when I e-mailed them the serial#.

In 16 years of playing, I have played a lot of basses, and although the EDB is not a Zon or a Ken Smith, I think it may be the best bang for your buck. If anything ever happens to it, I I will run out and buy the exact replacement- as a matter of fact, my next axe is the Ergodyne 5-string. I researched for a year and played everything on the market- sales guys hated me locally. I have been using a Yamaha RBX for years as a live axe, and it is now delegated to backup, and the 3 tunes a night where I go Drop-D on the E(I hate tuning around on stage). With a Hipshot on the Ergo, I might dust the Yammy occasionally, but I think thats about it. Now if the battery was a little easier to get to- like without a screwdriver!

This Bass is FAT. unlike my old Fender pbass this one really is punchy. Very Noise Free relative to my old bass. The sound can go from a Full bassy sound to a medium bright sound.

dont by from samash, they suck. well at least this one does, they didnt really have a great price or a great deal. This bass is better than my old Fender p-bass that got stolen last year!!! damn well the guy who stole it got what he deserved. He is now paralized from the neck down. An armed home owner shot him with a shotgun while he was burglarizing another house!! no shit.

This fine peice of equipment was made in 1999, In Korea. It's a four string, and it has 24 frets. Five knobs: Volume, Pickup Balance, And an active EQ with Low, Mid, and High controls. It comes with 2 active Ibanez ErgoDynamix humbuckers. The body is made of a new material which Ibanez created called Luthite, and the neck is maple with a rosewood fretboard. Luthite is an extremely tough material, able to withstand lots of abuse. The finish is a gun metal grey metallic, but it also comes in pearl white. It's a double cutaway body, with a Accu-Cast bridge. Die-Cast tuners, standard frets, nice thin neck like most Ibanez basses.

I'm a metal guy. Both old and new. This thing is a godsend for what I play. I play this bad boy straight into an Ampeg Rocket Bass 100 Amp. The electronics are as quiet as can be. It has an extremely full-bodied sound. The midrage on the this is fantastic. It's very well rounded. You can get a fantastic percussion-type slap sound out of this, or you can get just your notes through, with no unwanted clicks or anything. Allthat gets through are your notes. This bass can get any sound you want, whether you want a thin sound all the way to wall of sound, this fits it. This bass is fantastic for the stage, it lets your notes get through without getting drowned out by guitars(The guitarists in my band like it LOUD).

The bass was extremely well set up, the action was nice and high, just the way I like it. The pickups are perfect. They get the perfect punch. The gunmetal grey metallic finish is absolutely gorgeous, fits in very nicely with my two guitarists' main guitars (Silver sparkle Ibanez RG, and a BC Rich Acrylic See Through Red Warlock.....Pure Evil) I can't find anything i dislike about this thing..and I'm damn picky.

I'm an extremely active bass player, running and jumping, adding as much to the show as I can, and this thing is indestructible. This Luthite material will last for a long, long time. It never needs to be adjusted. I would and have gigged without a backup.

I have been playing guitar and bass for four years, I own a Hot Rodded Gibson Les Paul Special, a Modified Fender Stratocaster, a Mitchell Acoustic, a Fender Princeton Chorus, and a mountain of pedals. If this bass was lost/stolen, I would find the bastard, rip off his legs, and beat him over the head with them. That's how good thisthing is. I've compared it to countless basses(Fender Americans, other Ibanez', Gibsons, Epiphones, Warwick, Ernie Ball, G&L)And this one beats them all out in value and sound. This is the best bass around for someone with small cash.

Made in Korea. Don't let that scare you, I have played EXPENSIVE American basses before that felt cheaper than this. Four-string synthetic body(Luthite, something Ibanez came up with) which is molded so it has the shape characteristics of expensive hand-carved basses at a fraction of the cost. The material makes the bass a little heavier but the advantages of this stuff more than compensates. The controls give you all of the possiblities you should ever need. Master volume, pick-up balance, bass, mid, and treble, with the last three you can achieve about any sound you want with a little experimenting. The neck is three piece maple and is rock-solid, nothing that should ever give me trouble. I can't imagine finding another bass with this much features and quality in this price range.

This bass sounds great no matter what style you play. I've handed it over to people who play slap/funk, prog. metal, classic rock, and a few others and everyone is amazed at this things depth and versatility. This thing is DEEP, if you want thump you'll find it here. Noise?..What noise? It doesn't exist even at loud settings. If you let others try it out, the word of the moment will be 'WOW'.

It played great straight from the factory, perfect intonation, didn't even need much tuning(!). The appearence is simply beautiful. I had to special order it from my local Ibanez dealer, when it came in everyone in the store that saw it was in awe. It has a matte finish that won't show smears or hand prints, people think I clean it(I don't). I'm not sure if the finish is paint because it looks like the color of the actual material, if so, finish should never be a concern. The action is insane, it has that ultra thin & narrow neck Ibanez fans all know and love. The knob are all luxuriously smooth with a notch you can feel in the mid-point of all of the controls except volume(of course). Once again, I can't imagine this much quality in any other bass at this price.

This thing just feels indestructable. I've heard stories about how strong this material is, and I believe it. The neck feels so solid that I thought it wasn't wood at first(it's painted the same color as the body so you can't really tell). I've have yet to have a problem with the tuners, it hold its tune extremely well. And the bridge is one of those Ibanez bass bridges that never seem to have trouble.

I've not had any trouble, so I can't really say. They did get it to me two weeks faster than they said(it was supposed to be one back-order for a month).

I hesitated before buying this bass because I couldn't find a place where I could play it first. I don't usually buy anything w/o playing it but after a lot of research(and sore eyes from too much internet time) I felt that this was the best I could get for my money(even though it was a little more than I wanted to spend at the time). The HS case does have the slight WD40 smell that I had heard about, but it not that bad, especially if you get the case in the deal like I did. Overall, this is the only bass I should ever need. If anything were to happen to it I would buy the exact thing again(after I finished crying). I recommend this bass highly, my friend plays an Ibanez sr3000 (ohhh..) and said he loves my bass (about as good sounding at half the price of the 3000..OUCH!). I don't think anyone should buy this on my testimonial alone, go out on the net, research for a couple days and if you can play these models in a store thats the best option. All I can say in the end this is a great bass, please try it before you buy something else.

1997 Korean Manufacture 24 Frets - 4 String Luthite Body - This is a type of plastic/composite material which can be injection moulded. It's cheap, ultra strong and will allow the manufacturer contour a bass to fit like a glove. It's not graphite or carbon fibre or anything like that, but where I'm concerned, this stuff works. 2 Humbucking Soapbar Pickups - Ibanez own brand 3 Band active EQ, P/U Blend and master volume Maple neck, Rosewood Fretboard - The neck is painted in a sort of graphite lookalike paint, very convincing but without the cost of the real thing. Graphite Nut. Tuners and bridge are black, nice looking, solid, no problems in 24 months for me.

I'm into Jazz/Funk rock and for my purposes, this bass is sweet. The active EQ is extremely quiet and flexible. It's also a flexible bass in terms of tone you can tweak from it. I generally use 45-100 Dadario EXL170's on it. I play through a Trace Elliot AH300 head and a 2x10 and 1x15 cab. This rig is very clean, as close to transparent as I've come across when you leave the EQ flat, compression and preshape off. The Ibanez will cut it using its own EQ at this point....And like I said, it's quiet, no hiss or hum. The preamp battery generally lasts about 150 hours too which is all I'd expect from a #3 Duracell. The only thing I like to add is my Boss Bass Chorus pedal.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Action....You'd nearly say it doesn't exist on this bass. I can't comment on other models but the EDB I tried was so easy to play, I put a deposit on it straight away. I've since then let a few guitarist friends play it (Guys with teles and strats) and they can't believe how fast the neck is, how low the action is and how even the output level is. I previously owned a USA Precision and had to sell it after playing the EDB for a couple of months. Set up by the same tech, the P was just way to rough and far too slow for the styles I play. I've had no setup problems on this bass at all. Neck/Body balance is also spot on with a strap slung high or low. The one thing I'd like to clear up relating to all the EDB/EDC basses is that the odour you hear and read about does not come from the bass itself, but from the Ibanez HSC. Something to do with the Poly Foam they use for padding. Don't buy the case or if you do, bin it and buy a Hiscox case.

Will this bass stand up to live (ab)use? Anyday. In fact, 3 gigs a week for 2 yrs plus the inevitable rough handling when others get their mits on it have not affected this bass in the least. The jack socket came loose only once and this was simply a case of removing the front mounted plate and tightening a nut and washer! I set this bass up every 6 months or so and leave it alone for the rest. Would I use it on a gig without backup? Have done and will do. The only complaint is that with the luthite body, fitting a set of straplocks required actual drilling. The body is very tough and a screw simply didn't stand a chance of taking hold on its own.

I've had the bass two years and haven't had so much as a noisy pot on this one. My P bass plays up more than this Korean made beauty!

I've been playing for 8 years now. I also own a US P and a vintage US Jazz along with a cheap fretless and a Cort SJB ABG. If this bass was stolen or lost, I'd happily pay UK#1000 to replace it. I'd be lost without it. When I bought it, I compared it to a couple of Warwicks and a new Jazz. Price was close enough on these not to be an issue but for me the Ibanez really won on fit, sound and the killer looks.
