Two active pickups with a knob that lets you select a balance between bridge and neck percentages. Three knobs representing bass, midrange, and trebble. And a volume knob.
Sound
:8
depending on what you are looking for the bass to sound like, I assume that you should be able to get a desired sound by tweaking the EQ knobs and the pickup selector knob. There is a large range of sounds that can be genereated adjusting these.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
The bass came shipped from Zzounds.com with the neck in a poor position. Intonation was fin, but I needed to take it in to a guy to have it adjusted and properly set up. Once it was, however, the bass plays very well with no inconsistancies or unwanted noise. I am using flatwound strings from Thomastik-Infeld, which I feel allows for low sting action and a very smooth feel.
Reliability/Durability
:8
The bass should be able to withstand any normal in-house and live playing without problem. Have not had to do so yet...

I've played guitar for 8 years, with this being my first bass. I feel that for the money I payed (including some extra money for strings, which I feel are necessary) the bass will serve me well and more than satisfy my needs. Its easy to play, has versatility in sound, and built durably. Just make sure that it gets set up properly with regards to truss rod adjusting and intonation. Enjoy...

this is a solid "luthite" bass with a bolt-on neck and a rosewood fretboard. It has 24 frets, which I personally like, and is on a 34" scale. The tuners they use really arent bad at all, actually.. theyre pretty nice. The bridge is easy to use and loads well. Excellently thin neck and if you can set it up right, you can attain some decent action. The controls are (for active electronics) volume, bass, mid, treble and balance between the two (crappy) (passive) pickups. No accessories other than those. No straplocks.
Sound
:5
My styles are various, and this bass' sound REALLY depends on the strings! Ive tried almost every string I could get my hands on, and the only two that make it sound decent are Smiths and Fender tape wounds. The tape wounds really give it a nice double-bass sound, and a deep deep slap. The Smiths are good for everything. This bass really makes you utilize what strings you buy. Honestly I think this bass sounds like garbage if you put anything but those two types on. The sound that it puts out is rather hollow and harsh.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Action - excellent
the pickups arent very stable (they move too much on mine), but thats about it. The finish is a really nice looking satin finish.

Overall I think that this bass just needs some new pickups! I think that the passives that are currently in here are the only thing keeping it from rocking.

Korean made, 24 fretter. 2 black soap bartolini-type pickups (except theyre made by Ibanez). Volume, Balancer, and 3 band eq (treble, mid, bass). All separate knobs (not stacked ones). Body is made out of luthite, as is the neck. Rosewood fingerboard. Finish is Copper Brush Flat, which is a kind of a light goldy silvery colour, and matt finish (meaning it doesnt need polishing). Hardware is black. The bridge is has lots of possible adjustments to it, it has slots too, which means you can hook the ball end in without having to feed the whole string through. Tuners are the same ones you see on most of the Ibanezes, and RBX and BB series Yamahas. The scale is your regular 34", and feels nice. It gets very narrow at the nut. In the catalogue, it says the bass has "a scooped front for slapping" which must be the dip on the body, which curves.
Sound
:8
Having two pickups and a three band EQ, it suits any musical style. I dont even have an amp at home, but the bass sounded good enough in the shop for me to buy it. I don't know how well it can slap, because the strings on it when I bought it (and still are on there as I write), are way too heavy! But it does manage to achieve a fairly good sound, better than my old Ibanez GSR200 did anyway. It isnt anywhere near as good as a Warwick or a Music Man in terms of how good it sounds slapped, or how it feels slapped. Lacks much of a boost in volume when I fiddle about with the EQ. I was jamming with my mates and I couldnt hear it.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
I think Ibanez should give this bass a lighter set of strings out of the factory, like there are on the Ibanez SRX500 and SR305. Build quality is flawless, except for the back plastic plate which covers the cavity where the electronics and 9volt are. It does its job but if Ibanez wanted to make it perfect they could make it so there are no little gaps (or bits where gaps are bigger than others). Not a problem though, it creates a tight seal and nothing can get in or out without unscrewing it. Action I'll have to judge when I can get a nicer lighter set of strings on there. I imagine the bass would sound brilliant with the right strings. I think this would not only be nicer for people with weaker fingers such as myself, but also the right amount of slack would be perfect for playing slap style, which I enjoy so much. I have played a Warwick slap style, so I know what I can compare it to. Otherwise no big problems.
Reliability/Durability
:9
This bass feels pretty damn robust, I get that impression by how it feels slightly heavier than its size. I hope that the finish stays like it is now, apart from the inevitable scratches that happen throughout a guitar's lifetime. Im not sure if a matt finish is as long lasting as a gloss finish. Only time will tell.
I think if you play very hard with the pick, you might scratch the pickups a lot, not affecting it in any real way, but it doesnt look nice. So you may want to look out for that.

I think I could have spent a little more time getting to know the sounds of the bass first. I'd have preferred something that could get raw Fender and/or Music Man sounds outright. The Ibanez ATK series basses are better at doing that than this bass is. They're about the same price. If this bass got lost, broken or stolen and I got the amount of money it cost to buy it, I'd probably consider an ATK or SRX series bass over this. If I only had half the money I'd settle for an OLP Music Man bass, or if I had all the money in the world, I'd most probably go for a Warwick. Otherwise, whilst I still have this bass, its fine.

If it was stolen I would chase the thief to the end of the world and them I would use the bass to beat him up, them I would cry and buy another one.
This is the 2001 model altough I brough it in december 2002 it, the 2002 model has a maching neck color, but I like mine this way, it has two great sounding soapbars, a active electronics with 3 band equalizer, it has 22 frets in a mapple fingerboard, it is made of luthite, a very resistant material that isn't wood, but I find its sound very similar of one made of oak wood, it didn't bring any accesories =)

I like the sound a lot, I use a noisy amp, a crate BX15, but even so the bass has absolutly no noise, in the future I want to play punk, but I tried much things in this bass and its tone is amazing, it seems to fit all kinds of music, I never gigged with him or used in studio, but I think it is good for both, I find the sound, warm

The action is very fast and playable, and justifies the name Ergodyne
It needs a checkup, because the factory checkup its not very good, nad I've got a misaligned bracing, but that is the only flaw

This bass is a rock! It is very resistant, but not too heavy, so its perfect for me, they say ibanez bridges tens to break, but mine seems very solid, I don't like the strat buttons at all, I wanto to buy some that can be taken off easly.
I will probably be obliged to use it without a backup because I don't have enough money for one right now, no matter how good the bass is, a backup is always helpfull =)

It has one year garanty, plus two years given by the store, I called twice, one when I was to buy it, the people there were kind enough to give me stores to look for, and after that I called to ask prices for chrome hardware, and again they indicated me a good store for that.
I sent a mail once and they took almost a month to reply, but they were cool enough to offer their help if I nedded to, but i'll probably never send a mail again because asking for help by phone is quicker =)

When I saw this bass I fell in love with it, I like the jazz bass, and I probably will buy one as backup, the danelectro DC is very cool and the MM stingray is the perfect bass, but this bass stays real close.
Also the harware is black, but I plan to buy bridge, tuners, and knobs in chrome, and them I'll take off the black finnish and paint it as metalized orange finnish =PPP

Its a 2003 EDB600 in copper brush flat, sometimes its silver sometimes its copper... cool finish. Two ibanez passive humbuckers and an active three band eq, bass, middle and treble. All black hardware. Theres volume and a smooth pan knob for the pickups. The body is made of luthite and smells a bit when you open the back cavity. The battery is held in the same cavity as all the electronics, it would have been nice to have a seperate battery compartment but its no big deal. The neck is maple i think and is finished in the same colour as the body, it has a dark rosewood fingerboard with medium frets and is topped off with very stable tuners, which look like the sealed gotoh type, its a long scale neck 34". The body style is very much a futuristic jazz bass style and is very well shaped for playing when standing, balance is perfect. The bridge is fairly substantial and solid looking. Im giving it an 8 cause for the money.. there isnt anything better feature wise.
Sound
:8
This bass is very versatile, with all knobs in the centre notch it gives a balanced sound thats nice and clean, pan it slightly towards the bridge pickup and boost the bass and middle and you get a nice growly jazz sound. Pan towards the neck pickup and the tone becomes more p bass like. The active eq is excellent, boosting the bass and middle really gives this thing some kick. The sound is always clean. The bridge pickup alone is great for slap. It can produce lots of sounds, they may not fit exactly with how some of the more traditional basses sound but there are loads of great tones to be had from it. I play mostly metallica, tool or anything else i think sounds cool and this bass fits it all, i play straight into the fx return on my amp to bypass the preamp and do all my adjustments from the bass itself, works a treat. Another 8 for good overall sound and versatility based on the price.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
Im still using it as it came from the factory, everything was setup just fine. The action is perfect, i play some slap as well and its setup with just the right action to cover finger, pick and slap styles. The pickups are well adjusted with an even response from all strings. All the hardware was tight and nothing needed adjusting from the moment i picked it up. The neck is real easy to play and fast, works well for everything including tapping.

Its fallen over once, with only a tiny litte dent in the headstock, i was concerned that with the neck being so thin it would cause problems but it really hasnt. It seems really solid overall and the body seems indestructible. Havent gigged with it yet but i really really beat the crap out of it when jamming at home, i had tangle wood musicman copy before this that fell to bits cause i got ruff with it. The ibanez laps it up and just sounds better and better.

For the money there isnt anything better. It offers a superb all round package, good sound, good playability and its tough. I looked around for months and this is what i finnally decided on.

This bass is insane. 4 strings, passive pickups (battery powered), a very nice active 3 band EQ on it, Fluid pickup selector (Not a switch, but a knob), volume control, two soap bar pickups. 24 frets, Luthite body, front jack, and best of all: The bridge is god. Other thigns that it has are 4 gotoh tuners (in black). The neck has medium frets and also seems to be made out of Luthite. Nothing more I could ask for besides a cupholder, and a built in TV remote (And some sort of thumb rest).
Sound
:10
It suits my playing styles very well.. I play mostly anything (Besides country), Rock, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Punk, Pop. It has a nice sound, almost metallicy without being noisy. This sound can be removed by fiddling with the EQ. It has a VERY full sound (When you want it too), or it can have a very bright sound, It depends what you want. My favorite feature, there is NO noise, NONE! I haven't used it in a studio yet (I got it yesterday :-p), but It sounds great live (I had a gig yesterday.. heh.. I was in a rush). I was using a Peavey Combo? 115 (My friends amp, I forgot mine), and it sounded great.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
The bass was set up awesome. The luthite body and neck allows smooth/non stick navigation of the neck, as well as a confortable resting area for your hand. The pickups were set up perfectly, and the action was about perfect.. I just needed to ajust the action a smidge on the E string, to fix a small buzz ont he first fret. The finish is like a dent resistant door, except better. This think will resist any scratch, dent, or ding. The body and neck material also allow the bass not to go out of tune when it's dropped, or if it falls.. Hell I haven't ajusted the tuning since I bought it. One slight problem, it's heavy.. But eh.. No pain no game. Plus, it builds back muscle :-p.

This thing leaves the term "Rock solid" in the dust. This bass is tough stuff. This bass can withstand droppage, and almost anything else that is thrown at it (or that it is thrown at). The hardware is awesome, and I've had no problems.. I bought the last one in the store which was the "showroom" one.. It's trebble knob was broken/dirty, and I need to get it repaired. The electronics are long lasting, and quite durable as well.. I will never need a backup, it is simply the best. :)

I've been playing for a few years, and I own(ed, I traded it in) a shitty samick, and an Epiphone Eb-0. I just started bass after playing guitar for a long while, I own a '77 Gibson SG, and I owned an Ibanez RG160B(my first guitar). I think this is the best bass ever... I was considering to buy a Fender Jazz, a Stingray, or an Rick.. But I liked this bass the best.. It looks like a jazz bass, except futuristic and cooler. I researched this bass a great deal, and found that it was the bass for me. If it were stolen or lost, I would track down the person who stole it, grab it out of their hands, and beat them to a bloody pulp with it.. Hey, it's luthite.. It can withstand it. If it ever was hit by a plane or something (It could easily withstand a car), I would take a chunk of it, beat down the pilot, take 500$ from his wallet, and buy a new one.. I might even buy two simply because I love it so much. I love everything about it: The look, the feel, the sound, the smell (Luthite has a slight odor that smells like plastic.. oh well. I love it), and everything else. I don't like the weight, but now I don't need to go to the gym. When I get $1300, I'm going to purchase the other Ergodyne series basses (that aren't as good, but hey.. I love them). If you're even considering to buy this bass, you should slap yourself for only "considering" it.. You must go out and buy it.. Right now. You have no choice.

The sound is OK. I originally thought it was great ... but after using it for a while and playing other basses I realized its not all that. It just doesn't cut through the way I'd like it to. I play punk rock and used this bass on my band's recording. The bass just doesn't have the sound I want ... I thought it did, but I've played other basses now and have pretty much put this guy in the closet.
you can hear this bass with an ampeg on our recordings at: <a href="http://www.resident13.com">www.resident13.com</a> that should give you an idea of how this bass sounds in a "punk" situation
Action, Fit, & Finish

The action is pretty damn killer! I had a small adjustment made at Guitar center when i baught it and it plays like a champ. no complaints.
Its a comfortable bass as far as its contours go ... however for som reason when i started using this bass my picking hand started cramping. This never happened with my older bass, and doesnt happen with my new one either. (but i dont want to blame the bass for that yet)
the finish is really nice ... thats kinda why this guy originally caught my eye.

Overall this bass is pretty good except for the sound. It doesnt sound like crap or anything ... but not my style. If you have a good AMP like i do you can get it to make the sound you want ... but youll definately be able to tell the diff once you get a "high end" bass.
I'd recommond that you throw down the extra $200 for a USA Fender if you want the "punk" tone. Its a pretty good metal bass though.

Korea...probably about 3 years ago. 24 fret, 4 string. Volume, 3 band active EQ, pickup selector knob for the Humbukcers. It's Luthite (which I've changed my opinion of...initially, I thought it was gimmicky...now I'm pretty much a believer). I've got one of the purple people eater one's - the main reason I snagged in in brand new condition for $275 3 years ago.
I give it a 10 becuase you're not going to find better features on a better bass for less (you may find more...but they'll be really cheap - nothing about this bass feels cheap).
Sound

I play through a 240-watt Crate Amp driving a Big Ole' 18" SWR cabinet and a 15" JBL in an old Crate rig. Yes it's louder than hell. I play what I call bluesy-metal (some runs and pops when we're funkin' and power chords and mega distortion when we get heavy). Great sound. Clean - no hiss. On the Bright side but still warm.

Action is great on this bass and I've had no problem with warping. I've been able to tweak it much easier than my other bass, a copely custom 5 string. No flaws in it as far as I can tell. It is, however, a heavy bass for it's size.

2000 Ibanez EDB 600 with the grey pewter finish. Body is made of luthite, a hard plastic type substance which sounds like wood. The body is sculpted to fit you better as you play, feels pretty comfortable. 24 frets, Bolt on neck. 3 band eq. with a pickup selector knob and a master volume knob. Nice thin neck. The finish looks really good.

Great sound. With the pickup selector knob and the three band eq you can get some pretty nice sounds out of this thing. I use it with a peavey combo 115. Its very quiet and has a very nice low end with sound. I've noticed this bass has quite a variety of sounds that it can make and while it is no stingray it has a nice slap sound. No complaints with the sound, its a great bass for the money.

Nothing wrong with it. I ordered it through Jacksons Music and they set it up for me when they got it in. The action was nice and low, and everything was to my liking, no problems at all. I play all kinds of music (jazz, funk, rock, etc.) and I find it has good sound for them.

This bass is pretty rugged. I take good care of it, but occassionally things happen. Doesnt scratch that easily, and the luthite body makes it really really durable. This is a great bass, i just got mine, so its a 2002 white pearl edb. 24 frets, 4 strings, and a 3 band eq are just a few features on this. passive electronics and active pickups give it great tone, while the luthite body snugs right up to yours while playing. even the neck is luthite i believe, and its really really straight. the thin neck is great for doing quick fret work, and it doesnt get to thick at the bottom.

this bass does it all, it works in my house with a stereo, in my church, in my school, anywhere. its a tough bass, and u wont get scratches in the finish, because it doesnt have a finish. the white pearl is the color of the plastic (luthite) body, so any scratches arent noticable. all the hardware seems to be in good order, nothin is loose or anything like that.

The bass is designed to fit into the body perfectly. Having had experience gigging with several basses i found this one to be most comfortable despite the weight. It has a thin neck which allows for easier and more accessable playing, the action is also quite small which i myself pre-fer. This is a sexy bass.

Mid and highs are exceptional, cutting through both a distorted guitar and crashing cymbals. However, the low end sounds a bit weak and does not pack the earthquake rumble some people like. Despite this the tone is excellent when playing both rock and metal.

This is one of the best constructed basses ive played. The body has been bashed countless times and is still flawless, the bridge has been adjusted once in 9 months, i hardly ever have to tune it, it's perfect. Ive also played basses from Epiphone, Jacksonville, Tobias and Samick. The ibanez is my favourite. If i lost it id buy something else, but the new bass would be similar in most aspects. I love everything about this bass, from the curvature of the body, to the electronics and to the thin and fast neck, this bass will always be one of my favourites. If i had to recommend a genre for playing id choose rock. The bass can produce the sound required for these genres easily.

This unit has passive pickups, but uses an active EQ - a great combination that eliminates the buzz and hum that can occur with active pickups, but still provides the punch and sustain of an active rig.
The proprietary body material called Luthite provides for fantastic resonance, but is also very heavy. Not for those with bad backs.
Two humbucker pickups combine with Bass/Mid/Treble controls allow for a vast range of sounds.
Graphite nut and bridge design make intonation steady. I pretty much only have to tune it when I change strings. Other than that I plug in my tuner, pick each of the strings once, nod appreciatively and move on.
Sound
:9
The sound is extremely versatile. Great, booming bass, mellow, warm mids, and crisp, clear highs.
Cranking the bass control knob can overdrive some pre-amps. If your sound seems distorted, back that down a bit and bring up the bass on the amp.
Sounds terrible when the 9V battery gets low. Battery life can be maximized my unplugging the guitar cable when not in use.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
The action was smooth and comfortable from the start, but those who prefer a stiffer feel may want to raise the action a bit.
I had to raise the pickups slightly to get the punch I wanted, but that only took a few seconds.
This guitar is perfectly balanced, and just feels comfortable, aside from being excessively heavy.
The matte finish is extremely durable, but over time the rosewood fretboard has become somewhat dingy and stained. The wear is not enough to be noticed from a distance, and hasn't altered the sound quality.
The Luthite body is extremely durable and hasn't yet developed any noticeable scratches or cuts.
Reliability/Durability
:8
After nearly 4 years of regular use, I have only a few, minor wear issues to report.
The 1/4" jack has loosened, and the threads are stripped. An annoying, but not disastrous occurrence. The jack still isn't noisy, just not as sturdy as it once was.
The Treble tone control is somewhat inconveniently placed and, as a result, it rests on the arm of my guitar stand (I've tried three different stands, and they all create the same scenario). As a result, that knob comes loose from time to time. This is easy to tighten with a small allen wrench.
Overall, I'd have to say this little guy has held up very well over the years.

This would be a great first bass that may, in fact, never need to be replaced.
In my experience the sound quality, durability and overall feature set are unmatched for the price. If I had it to do over again, though, I probably would have bought the only slightly more expensive 700 series which includes a parametric EQ.

Built 2001 in Korea. I spent quite a long time picking out a bass and finally chose this one. It has a full 24 frets which I like for my fast all over style. Also the tone is very controllable. I love the controls. The body fits nicely when playing. It is extremely well engineered.
Sound

The sound of this bass is unbelievable. This is my second bass, my first being an entry level Jackson JS-40. This is a HUGE step up from that. It has a very deep sound which suits my Linkin Park like heavy rock tastes and it has 24 frets which suits my light fast Weezer like tastes. Dont use this bass with Ernie Ball Strings it sounds like crap.

Korean made, 2001. Has 4 string, 24 fret, volume, bass, mid, high, and a pickup selector knob. two humbuckers. active electronics, made out of luthite with a rosewood fretboard, totally awesome looking white pearl finish. standard tuners, extremely thin neck(very fast). the only thing not cool about it is that its kinda heavy.

this bass is very versatile, just like all ibanez basses. good for rock, jazz, funk, punk, soul, anyhting. i use it with a gallien-krueger 200rcb rackmount head and a fender cab loaded with two fifteens. its extremely quiet even when you play it with didtortion or effects. you can get all the sounds you want from it, you can do slap and pop and they all sound good. i havent used it in the studio but it sounds great live.

The body is weighted nicely and the thing feels like seal skin or something. I liked the active picups right off the bat. Neck is thin and easy to play. Really nice eq controls that allow strong bass or very bright slap sound. Good body curve that fits your body when standing. Well balanced tone overall.

Very Versatile instrument for variety of styles. It looks a little bit too modern to have in an oldies band, but the sound can cover anything I can imagine. The weight of the instrument is more than you would expect from a guitar this size. Still, the sound makes up for the inconvenience.

The action was great right out of the box. I tuned it and then recorded with it the next hour.Intonation was very close to perfect. I think it can get a little closer though. Just bought it new, so its prolly a 2001, mad in Korea, 24 frets, 3 band active eq, passive pu's. Lightweight molded body, very comfy, cool pearl white finish. Rosewood board on maple neck with unusual paint on the neck. Lets you slide up and down, but gives your hands bite when you need it. Interesting.
Sound
:10
Noiseless humbucker pickups produce any sound you want. The active eq can boost or cut bass, mid and treble. You can blend pickkups or play one at a time with blend knob. Sound can be deep, or slap happy. I tried other basses, and have owned many, none sounded better.
Action, Fit, & Finish

This bass is the easiest to play of any I have ever played. Great neck, great setup, and the body is so cool, not just looking, but fitting to your body and where your right hand rests to pluck the strings. It naturally falls into the right place. Ergo indeed, they thought how do we make this better, and then they did. Cool
Reliability/Durability

The body is made of some Corian/bowling ball material, and it may be bulletproof, but I haven't done that test yet. I've gigged with it one day after purchasing it, and only had one scary moment, just before first set, when everyone is on stage and ready to go. The "new"battery that I installed earlier that day, was not so great. I hit a not and got a weak fizz. Trouble! I had to change the battery quick on stage. Took about five minutes, it seemed like forever. No battery hatch, you have to unscrew 4 screws to remove backplate. I point off for no battery hatch.

This gets a 10 not because it has tons of features, but because it has exactly what you need - nothing more. '99 Korean made, 24 frets (standard ibanez), 1 volume, 1 pickup blend knob, 3 active tone knobs (hi,mid, low), luthite body with gray pewter finish - contrary to many people's beliefs, there actually is a finish, the actual luthite is black (look inside the electronics compartment)
Sound
:8
it took a while to get used to the sound, a lot of messing around with knobs on the bass and the amp (Carvin PB200) It can sound a bit too bright (versus warm like a warwick or something) but now that i got the sound that i like (boost the lows and cut the mids and highs - the luthite makes up for this) its great. it really cuts through but doesnt lose any bottom end. There is no hum, my amp has a noise gate that is permanently set to 0.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Bought it and tuned it, thats about it. I had to tighten a screw on the neck pickup and its still a bit uneven, but thats about it. It has a scratch on the top of the headstock from being in the Guitar Center warehouse but it was the last one they had and i couldnt wait to get my hands on it (its that beautiful) The finish is great, its smooth and dark, it goes with the shape of the body. The best part of the bass is its feel. The curved back is now an absolute necessity for me, i dont think i'll ever play my p-bass again and the only other bass i would buy is a warwick thumb. the body is small and the neck is thin and fast - plays like an absolute dream, no joke.
Reliability/Durability
:7
its an ibanez, so the attention to detail isnt the best. the pickups are sturdy but loose, and the jack is loose, i tried to tighten it but couldnt, maybe its supposed to be like that - no crackling or anything though. Stays in tune quite nicely, strap buttons are really strong. Im really careful with it because i love it so much, so i make sure i dont drop it or anything. Havent played it live yet, but i would play without a backup just because i cant afford that warwick yet ;-) (actually i cant justify buying another bass since this one rocks so hard)

Ive only been playing for about a year and a half, I play mostly rock, metal, and zeppelin. I cant say enough about this bass, it rocks. My only gripe is the quality, but I paid less than $500 for it and the less-than-perfect quality doesnt effect the sound or the playability, which both dominate. Like i said, i would never buy another bass except for that warwick, which would give me the deep warm sound that this bass lacks. I'd definately say that this is, for the money, the absolute best bass you could possibly buy.

This bass is very solid and well-featured. I picked it up used for 1/2 of the msrp, still looking brand new. The 3-band EQ is very responsive and versatile, but watch the sweep control for the mid- if it gets at all dirty it doesn't work too well- regular maintenance and tlc should keep it working fine. My 600 has the pewter finish, which looks fab, and holds up well- not being fully familiar with it, I took it on stage first time wearing a belt, and because the EDB fits so close to the body at waist height, the buckle scarred it up badly--- and my tech had it looking great again in an hour! Tough seems like a good description. My tech says that it is extremely friendly to work on, and all adjustments are easy and highly effective-(amateur bass techs may find it touchy-- take it to a pro). The active pickups are very good for stockers, and the body lends itself to comfortable extended play. The neck? FAST! Fast and easy- I have carpal tunnel, and have not had any trouble since getting this guitar. From the store their were a few buzzy frets- also dealt with easily by the tech. Intonation is spot- on right to fret 24, and the bolt-on neck is surprisingly stable. I think the most pleasant surprise is that Luthite stuff- sounds like expensive wood, and is tough like nails.
Sound
:10
I play a lot of different stuff- from classic Metal (Judas Priest) and Rock (Kiss, AC/DC) to Country, Blues, and Funk. The wide variety of tones available has helped me eliminate stomp boxes entirely- except for the backup bass which needs them to keep up to the Ergo. Controls are very quiet for active- wicked sheilding is included, but if you rail the high end knob there is some hiss introduced, but it sounds like crud that way anyhow- almost flat with a bit of the low added, and play with the mids is the most effective. My stage sound has never been too much of an issue for me, but I use a Yorkville Stage 120b, and I am no longer looking for a new amp! Might need a new 15" that can handle all the lows better, tho. The direct sound is fantastic- live Techs have always loved it, and recording recently, the engineer
said that the only reason he compressed it was due to the player. The EDB went to DAT with the strip flat- on-board eq was plenty. We ran it thru an Octaver for a sow tune, and I think it sounded about as good as anything I've ever heard. One beef I do have is the strap buttons- they LOOK like strap-locks, but they didn't fit the Schaeller system, and Ibanez used such monster screws to put them on that we had to drill the lock buttons to use them- Schaeller stock screws were too small.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
Getting this bass used, I have no idea what the factory settings were like, but my tech suspects that the 3 buzzy frets were factory original. It came with a Plastic nut, but took to Graphite easily. There is a small spot on the headstock where the finish looks --different somehow, and like I said, keep the controls clean or they sound awful. But who likes crunchy pots anyhow?

Everything about this bass is tough- and I plan to have it for a very long time. So far I have never had any trouble of any sort- although if I do, I will surely tell all.

In 16 years of playing, I have played a lot of basses, and although the EDB is not a Zon or a Ken Smith, I think it may be the best bang for your buck. If anything ever happens to it, I I will run out and buy the exact replacement- as a matter of fact, my next axe is the Ergodyne 5-string. I researched for a year and played everything on the market- sales guys hated me locally. I have been using a Yamaha RBX for years as a live axe, and it is now delegated to backup, and the 3 tunes a night where I go Drop-D on the E(I hate tuning around on stage). With a Hipshot on the Ergo, I might dust the Yammy occasionally, but I think thats about it. Now if the battery was a little easier to get to- like without a screwdriver!

This fine peice of equipment was made in 1999, In Korea. It's a four string, and it has 24 frets. Five knobs: Volume, Pickup Balance, And an active EQ with Low, Mid, and High controls. It comes with 2 active Ibanez ErgoDynamix humbuckers. The body is made of a new material which Ibanez created called Luthite, and the neck is maple with a rosewood fretboard. Luthite is an extremely tough material, able to withstand lots of abuse. The finish is a gun metal grey metallic, but it also comes in pearl white. It's a double cutaway body, with a Accu-Cast bridge. Die-Cast tuners, standard frets, nice thin neck like most Ibanez basses.

I'm a metal guy. Both old and new. This thing is a godsend for what I play. I play this bad boy straight into an Ampeg Rocket Bass 100 Amp. The electronics are as quiet as can be. It has an extremely full-bodied sound. The midrage on the this is fantastic. It's very well rounded. You can get a fantastic percussion-type slap sound out of this, or you can get just your notes through, with no unwanted clicks or anything. Allthat gets through are your notes. This bass can get any sound you want, whether you want a thin sound all the way to wall of sound, this fits it. This bass is fantastic for the stage, it lets your notes get through without getting drowned out by guitars(The guitarists in my band like it LOUD).
Action, Fit, & Finish

The bass was extremely well set up, the action was nice and high, just the way I like it. The pickups are perfect. They get the perfect punch. Made in Korea. Don't let that scare you, I have played EXPENSIVE American basses before that felt cheaper than this. Four-string synthetic body(Luthite, something Ibanez came up with) which is molded so it has the shape characteristics of expensive hand-carved basses at a fraction of the cost. The material makes the bass a little heavier but the advantages of this stuff more than compensates. The controls give you all of the possiblities you should ever need. Master volume, pick-up balance, bass, mid, and treble, with the last three you can achieve about any sound you want with a little experimenting. The neck is three piece maple and is rock-solid, nothing that should ever give me trouble. I can't imagine finding another bass with this much features and quality in this price range.
Sound

This bass sounds great no matter what style you play. I've handed it over to people who play slap/funk, prog. metal, classic rock, and a few others and everyone is amazed at this things depth and versatility. This thing is DEEP, if you want thump you'll find it here. Noise?..What noise? It doesn't exist even at loud settings. If you let others try it out, the word of the moment will be 'WOW'.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
It played great straight from the factory, perfect intonation, didn't even need much tuning(!). The appearence is simply beautiful. I had to special order it from my local Ibanez dealer, when it came in everyone in the store that saw it was in awe. It has a matte finish that won't show smears or hand prints, people think I clean it(I don't). I'm not sure if the finish is paint because it looks like the color of the actual material, if so, finish should never be a concern. The action is insane, it has that ultra thin & narrow neck Ibanez fans all know and love. The knob are all luxuriously smooth with a notch you can feel in the mid-point of all of the controls except volume(of course). Once again, I can't imagine this much quality in any other bass at this price.
Reliability/Durability

This thing just feels indestructable. I've heard stories about how strong this material is, and I believe it. The neck feels so solid that I thought it wasn't wood at first(it's painted the same color as the body so you can't really tell). I've have yet to have a problem with the tuners, it hold its tune extremely well. And the bridge is one of those Ibanez bass bridges that never seem to have trouble.

I hesitated before buying this bass because I couldn't find a place where I could play it first. I don't usually buy anything w/o playing it but after a lot of research(and sore eyes from too much internet time) I felt that this was the best I could get for my money(even though it was a little more than I wanted to spend at the time). The HS case does have the slight WD40 smell that I had heard about, but it not that bad, especially if you get the case in the deal like I did. Overall, this is the only bass I should ever need. If anything were to happen to it I would buy the exact thing again(after I finished crying). I recommend this bass highly, my friend plays an Ibanez sr3000 (ohhh..) and said he loves my bass (about as good sounding at half the price of the 3000..OUCH!). I don't think anyone should buy this on my testimonial alone, go out on the net, research for a couple days and if you can play these models in a store thats the best option. All I can say in the end this is a great bass, please try it before you buy something else.

1997 Korean Manufacture 24 Frets - 4 String Luthite Body - This is a type of plastic/composite material which can be injection moulded. It's cheap, ultra strong and will allow the manufacturer contour a bass to fit like a glove. It's not graphite or carbon fibre or anything like that, but where I'm concerned, this stuff works. 2 Humbucking Soapbar Pickups - Ibanez own brand 3 Band active EQ, P/U Blend and master volume Maple neck, Rosewood Fretboard - The neck is painted in a sort of graphite lookalike paint, very convincing but without the cost of the real thing. Graphite Nut. Tuners and bridge are black, nice looking, solid, no problems in 24 months for me.

I'm into Jazz/Funk rock and for my purposes, this bass is sweet. The active EQ is extremely quiet and flexible. It's also a flexible bass in terms of tone you can tweak from it. I generally use 45-100 Dadario EXL170's on it. I play through a Trace Elliot AH300 head and a 2x10 and 1x15 cab. This rig is very clean, as close to transparent as I've come across when you leave the EQ flat, compression and preshape off. The Ibanez will cut it using its own EQ at this point....And like I said, it's quiet, no hiss or hum. The preamp battery generally lasts about 150 hours too which is all I'd expect from a #3 Duracell. The only thing I like to add is my Boss Bass Chorus pedal.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
Action....You'd nearly say it doesn't exist on this bass. I can't comment on other models but the EDB I tried was so easy to play, I put a deposit on it straight away. I've since then let a few guitarist friends play it (Guys with teles and strats) and they can't believe how fast the neck is, how low the action is and how even the output level is. I previously owned a USA Precision and had to sell it after playing the EDB for a couple of months. Set up by the same tech, the P was just way to rough and far too slow for the styles I play. I've had no setup problems on this bass at all. Neck/Body balance is also spot on with a strap slung high or low. The one thing I'd like to clear up relating to all the EDB/EDC basses is that the odour you hear and read about does not come from the bass itself, but from the Ibanez HSC. Something to do with the Poly Foam they use for padding. Don't buy the case or if you do, bin it and buy a Hiscox case.
Reliability/Durability
:9
Will this bass stand up to live (ab)use? Anyday. In fact, 3 gigs a week for 2 yrs plus the inevitable rough handling when others get their mits on it have not affected this bass in the least. The jack socket came loose only once and this was simply a case of removing the front mounted plate and tightening a nut and washer! I set this bass up every 6 months or so and leave it alone for the rest. Would I use it on a gig without backup? Have done and will do. The only complaint is that with the luthite body, fitting a set of straplocks required actual drilling. The body is very tough and a screw simply didn't stand a chance of taking hold on its own.

I've been playing for 8 years now. I also own a US P and a vintage US Jazz along with a cheap fretless and a Cort SJB ABG. If this bass was stolen or lost, I'd happily pay UK#1000 to replace it. I'd be lost without it. When I bought it, I compared it to a couple of Warwicks and a new Jazz. Price was close enough on these not to be an issue but for me the Ibanez really won on fit, sound and the killer looks.
