Im not sure when exactly it was made, but it is manufactured in Korea. It has 24 frets, 5 strings, 3 band active eq (bass, mid, treble) and blend knob, and of course a volume knob, 2 passive ergo-dynamix humbucking pickups(neck and bridge), the body is made of "luthite", the neck is maple, the whole bass is done in a really nice "gray pewter" finish, the body style is freakin awesome, the bridge is Ibanez's accu-cast b25 bridge (very user friendly) standard tuners(very smooth) i believe the neck is a 34" scale, very thin, medium frets, and since it was the last one the store had, being the floor model, it did not come with any accessories.

Sound : 8
I play all kinds of stuff... contemporary worship, church music, rock, blues, jazz, funk...etc.... and so far i have not been able to play with the bass to much, but it seems to have pretty versatile tone... im sure with enough fiddling i can get the tone i want for just about anything.... so far ive only played it through a yamaha emx660 pa system, but the tone is freakin awesome!!! the slap capabilities blew me away!!!! overall tone is excellente!!!!!! the controls are silent, not noisy at all, i havent tried this bass live yet, but im sure it would be great on stage or anywhere.... i love this bass! of course, being made out of luthite, it lacks a certain "woody" sound that i love, but i suppose i can live without it.... i always have my other bass......

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
alright, as far as setup goes.... it wasnt.... it sucked.... i wanted to puke all over the strings!!!! i dont think they did anything to the bass... i have never heard so much buzzing in all my days.... after about an hour or so of truss rod adjusting, adjusting the action a bit, and intonating the strings.... its awesome. to bad i had to do it myself! i lost valuable playing time, but i feel better about the setup now. oh, and the only reason it took an hour was because i had no real tools to work with....
as far as flaws on the bass... very few... the only problem was that the electronics cover on the back didnt really match up that great, and one of the brass inserts for the screws that held it on was stripped out.... ill have to glue it back in.... and the screws werent really matched up with the cover all that well... but it works. other than that, the bass is flawless.....

Reliability/Durability : 9
this bass is a beast!!!! you could chop a tree down with this axe!!!! it feels like it will last forever! it will definitely withstand live playing..... i would gig without a backup....
strap buttons are solid, so far the tuners seem solid enough.... i already had to adjust the truss rod, but thats cuz the guys at the store either suck at setups, or they didnt...
i expect to have this bass for years!

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with em....

Overall Rating : 9
ive been playing for a little over three years now, and i have an Ibanez ATK100 bass and a fender bxr100 amp, and a korg bass pandora.
if it were stolen i would probably cry, and i wouldnt be able to afford another one for quite sometime, but i would probably buy it again....
i love this bass.... the only thing i dont like is the back cover.... and the setup WAS horrible.... the B string is pretty tight though..... so that is a plus.... i bet with a little more adjusting i could get the action a whole lot lower than i play with now........ i love the 3 band active eq on this thing!
i compared it with the warwick corvette rockbass 5 and a couple other 5 string ibanez and this one took it..... the other ibanez were good, but i like this one a little better cuz of the looks, comfort, and electronics.... the warwick rockbass was nice, but i figured this one was made better.... i just didnt care as much for the warwick...
i dont think i would alter this bass too much.... maybe make it 35"scale, for tighter B, though its alright now, and i would maybe put some better harware on it.... though its still good.... other than that, ive only had it 3 days, so i cant really say much more about it.... other than i think ill be happy with it.

This is a 2002 Ibanez EDB 605 5 string bass, made in Korea. The bass has a good set of features without going overboard. Electronics are active with two soapbar humbuckers and 3 rotary controls to set bass, mid and top cut/ boost. The controls are centre-detented, which is always a nice touch, and have a good useable range. The body is pearl black luthite and vaguely Jazz bass shaped, the neck is a 3 piece maple job with a rosewood fingerboard and 24 medium frets. Fretting is nicely done, but the nut was cut a little on the high/ tight side. Hardware wise, there is a well made and chunky top loading bridge and a set of own brand tuners which are smooth to operate although the buttons are a bit on the skinny side compared to Schallers. The bass came with a set of Elixir Nanoweb strings, which is a good bonus at this price. The biggest downer is the neck/ body joint. The heel is huge and seriously restricts access to the dusty frets, so lose a mark for that one.

Sound : 8
The band I play in is a kind of funk-rock outfit, and this bass makes all the necessary bright, snappy, growling noises for this kind of gig through an ancient Trace Elliot GP11 head and a home made 4x10 cab. Metal isn't my scene, but this would be a good bet for that style as well, but it's maybe a bit restrained for punk/ thrash, and doesn't really go down deep enough for reggae. The electronics are near silent on all settings, quiet enough to be able to tell just how noisy my compreesor pedal is. Overall, a great sounding bass if you're into the Doug Wimbish kind of thing, not so hot if Robbie Shakespeare is more your bag.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
The set up as delivered was below average. Action was way too high, and there was no relief in the neck at all. Not a problem if you feel confident tackling these things yourself, but disappointing and expensive if you get someone else to do it for you. As mentioned earlier, the nut wasn't cut as well as it could have been. Finally, the control cavity cover plate was a poor fit on my bass, and needed some playing with to sort out. This all sounds bad, but I've had much the same on just about every other bass I ever had, all the same you have to do some serious marking down for these kind of details. Cosmetically everything was spot on, way above what you would normally expect at the price.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Have to agree with everybody else here, this thing is bullet proof. This is my main instrument at the moment, and it hasn't picked up any of the dings you normally get with a wood bodied bass. Finish has held up well so far, and the strap buttons seem dependable enough although I wish Ibanez had stuck with their old V shaped buttons which locked the strap more securely.
After setting it up when I first got it, I haven't needed to touch it apart from maybe checking and tweaking the intonation after putting new strings on. I never turn up to gigs without a backup, but if I had to, I wouldn't lose any sleep with this bass.

Customer Support : 10
Never had to deal with Ibanez direct. I've played Ibanez basses since 1988, and have only had to get on to the UK distributor twice. Both times they were easy to deal with and got the problem sorted quickly, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and take it on trust that nothing has changed.

Overall Rating : 9
I've played bass since 1982, my current rig is a Trace Elliot GP11, 4x10 cab and a few effects here and there, mainly a dynacomp pedal. I have two other Ibanez basses, a battered P-bass shape Roadstar and a Musician series bass from the mid 80's. If this were stolen, I'd be straight out to get another one. The best thing about it is the broad tonal range it has, the worst has to be that bloody great heel at the neck joint. When I bought this bass, I compared it to an Ibanez BTB400, a MIM Jazz Bass and a Yamaha whose model number I forget. I chose the 605 because of its sound and, well, because it's an Ibanez.
The only real gripe I have is the setup, but that was fixed easily enough. Overall, outstanding value for money; this bass is more than the sum of its parts and comes recommended.

2002 bass, made in Korea.

Excellently made, but only one pickup has enough space on top to plant your thumb there. (my thumb, at least.)

Feature details can be found in the other reviews or on the Ibanez website. I'm here for opinions.

The body has a more traditional shape than the EDA or EDC, but it's still got a few non-traditional features. The back of the bass is scalloped, so it fits comfortably aginst you, and there's a scooped out spot between the bottom of the neck and the neck pickup, so you can get hella good pop on the G string. The bridge is an Accu-Cast b25, which is good. One screw adjusts string height, and changing strings is simple, too. The body also tapers down a bit over the neck pickup, providing a decent thumbrest. I would have preferred the same on the bridge pickup, though.

A downside: Luthite, the material the body and neck are made of, is pretty heavy. I recommend sitting down to play this bass.

Sound : 10
The luthite body enhances the sound wonderfully. With just a few twists of the control knobs (although it does take a little practice to see just how each knob interacts with the others) this bass can get you Death Cube K subtleness, Korn no-mid punch, or Primus slap-pop.

Unbelievably quiet, as well. I can fiddle with any knob on the bass as much as I want, and not a sound will come from my speaker cones.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Set up extremely well, with low, low action but no fret buzz, except on the low B string. LOTS of fret buzz on that string when I played it without slapping. Very floppy string, but the action was easy to raise. I spent about 3 minutes doing that (using the allen wrenches provided with the bass, I thank Ibanez very much for that!) and then I couldn't find another flaw, and I really tried, too!

Reliability/Durability : 10
This luthite is extremely durable, everything is set up nice and tight, and, since the entire body is luthite, there's no finish to wear off. If you get a scratch (and it took falling down a flight of stairs to scratch mine) the body inside is the same color and texture as the outside, so it barely shows. Although I'm paranoid and NEVER play without a backup, this is the most solid bass I've ever seen.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with Ibanez yet.
Has a 1-year warranty, pretty decent one too.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for a little over a year, and I also own a Scecter Diamond Series fretless, and a Fender Precision Bass.

If this bass was stolen, I would most definitely get this same one again. I've seen basses that cost twice as much that aren't as good as this beauty.

Incredibly easy to play, sounds great, and can be used for a variety of styles. Excellent bass!

The only changes I'd make would be to make a spot on the bridge pickup for a thumbrest, and have this bass ship with different strings.

I only give this bass a 9 because it's so heavy and needed a slight adjustment on arrival. The contour shape is very comfortable, though. If you're fairly strong, the weight shouldn't bother you much, but this is a wonderful bass for sitting down. Everything stays right in reach, and it's not so heavy that it puts your leg to sleep.

I'd rather play this than my father's $1200 Fender 5-string custom.

For this price, I'd be hard pressed to find a better (or even equal) bass.

EQB-3 3 band bass EQ : Bass, Mid, Treble, and Volume and Balance

Only available in Iron Pewter (I think)

This bass is one of the coolest basses I could have possibly bought. Having seen the photos of it on the Ibanez site, I wasn't thoroughly impresses but after actually recieving it, you realise how misleading the site photos are. This thing looks so much better in life, and is also a lot more black than I expected. Having played the 4 string white pearl version, I blindly ordered this, and Im glad I did.
The body, made of a luthite material which supposedly "enhances the top end", is fairly heavy but if your a fairly big 6ft guy like me, youll never notice it after a few hours. Well, its not that heavy...

The body has a very warm, dare I say futuristic feel to it. Playing is a very pleasurable experience, it just kinda fits if you get my drift. The pickups, EQ - all excellent, no problems there.

Sound : 10
I play this bass through a Trace Elliot 300w 2x12 combo, and it sounds amazing. I also use an ODB-3 Boss Overdrive pedal for a mixture of cutting overdrive, and disturbing distotion sounds. I play a little metal, a lot of rock, and a lot in between, for example Pantera, Bush, Pearl Jam, Soulfly, Sepultura, SOAD, Metallica, and generally other stuff I like and buy, not neccecarily heavy stuff, and this bass can do it all. Please don't take reviews seriously where the person states they are using a god-damn practice amp, because seriously, you can naver get a decent soud out of anything under 50watts. If someone says they cant decent sound outta a 15watt amp, even with 8 effets pedals, find them and slap them :-). If you are really serious about makig this bass live up to its potential, buy a decent amp first, then build on the effects.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Bass arrived in my music store fully set up and ready to go, which I was very impressed at. After taking the bass home, couldn't find a single flaw anywhere - neck, pickups, action were all excellent. No loose controls/tuning heads, no scratches, perfectly set neck.....I wont go on, as there really isn't anything wrong!

Reliability/Durability : 9
I haven't played with this bass live, as my band have been a little pre-occupied writing stuff. Bass feels like it could take a lot of punishment, but I dont plan to test it. I've read elsehwere that scratching the body only leaves a very slight mark, so Im pleased with that. When my band start touring again, I won't need a backup. Unles this gets stolen. lol. Overall a very sturdy bass whcih will paly fantastically with minimal care.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I previously had a GSR200 el cheapo bass, but that was as reliable as any ibanez guitar. Absoloutely nothing wrong with this guitar, so I doubt any customer care calls will be needed. If you think your some kind of rock god and go about lobing this into the pit, then expect to take it backto the shop for repairs - not Ibanez's fault!

Overall Rating : 10
My current rig is this EDB605, through to an ODB-3 Overdrive pedal, occassionally through a Akai P1 Intelliphaser (excellent for basses too), and into my 300watt 2X12 Trace Elliot (can't remember the name of it as it's 20 miles from here) via Planet Soundwave cables. A fantastic (although very expensive) setup, and I can get many different band sounds from all the adjustments on the bass eq, foot pedal, and bass amp. All of my equipment has been bought without any regrets, especially the foot pedals which a lot of people complain about because they admit there amps suck. Well, don't blame the pedal fool.....
If this was stolen, I would certainly buy another. I spend a good 4 hours in my music store looking for a bass I was comfortable with, and was different from all the other mundane looking Yamaha's, Fender's, etc. This was it! If I couodn't afford to pay for this again, I would go for the 4 string version instead.
For only #475 (i think about $550) this bass is extrememly good value for money. It offers so much for very little.

Insospettabilmente caldo e morbido.

Ok, here's the deal. We have a lovley edb605 made of a graphite composite with 24 frets etc... the other reviews have all told you.

This thing is PACKED to the brim and over flowing with feature -for its price- this isnt a high end bass therefore there is a lack of.....high end features. Ibanez have done a good job in including all the things u'de expect in a Warwick copy. It looses a point of corse because of lack of wood.

Sound : 9
The sound on this beast is a lot more than you'de expect! when i picked it up in the shop i thought 'oh no! here comes another piece of futuristic shit' but i was badly mistaken. I use this bass for rock/jazz/funk that sort of end. while othee reviews have said that it's a metal bass i would have to disagree. i can get the growl of a stingray and warmth of a J-Bass outta this axe.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Well, it isnt made of wood, so not alot can be said. everything was put together as tight as a nut to my suprise. althought the tuners go out of tune reguarly they look great and do their job.
THIS BASS LOOKS GREAT!!
##its a real looker##

Reliability/Durability : 10
This axe is ..... an axe! nothing has gone wrong with it since its purchase 1 and 1/3 year ago. i use it at gigs without a backup mainly because i cant afford anything else but nothing has gone wrong, i have not been made a fool of by this bass at all!

No Idea

This bass is great for a "Second Bass". It's not professional quality but its not a cheap fender copy. Buy this if you need a solid, proper bass to gig/work with untill u've deffined the sound u want.

This is an Ibanez EDB 605 Five-string bass, 24-fret neck. It was purchased in December of 1999. Made in Korea.
It's made out of luthite, which is a sort of polymer/heavy plastic material that makes a very nice bass for not that much money. It's got this cool grey pewter finish that would look just appropriate in any setting (jazz to punk). The body shape is relatively similar to a jazz- or p-bass, but the upper horn is long enough so that you don't have to hold the neck up.
H/H active pickup setup, with volume, pickup blend, treble, mid, and bass knobs.
I love the neck on this sucker. It's ergonomically contoured a little thicker near the nut than near the bridge, which makes it easier to play up closer to the body of the bass. As well, the low B string was not floppy and hard to play on at all.
As well, the back of the bass is sort of concave to make it comfortable to play for long periods of time. It just hugs your body.
I gave it a 9, mainly because of all the crazy stuff you can get on high-end basses if you spend enough money. If you only compared it to basses in its price range, it would have been a 10 (or an 11).

Sound : 9
My music style goes from rock to jazz to reggae, just like everybody else who reviews instruments. ;-)
But seriously, you can dial in pretty much any sound you want out of this thing. I run this thing through some pretty diverse amps (IE not specifically designed for basses), and I can still get some great tones. There's incredible room for tone shaping, and when you're not playing, it silent. I didn't change the strings for a year and a half after I got it and I was still able to make it sound punchy and trebly. When I did put new strings on it I managed to EQ out the over-trebly new-string buzz.
Again, I give this category a 9, but if I was adjusting for price, I would have given it a 10.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The setup is where this sucker absolutely shines. I had the guy at Sam Ash mess with the truss rod a little to take out a slight fret buzz when I first bought it, and this bass was flawless. No fret buzz, the neck was perfectly straight, not even any significant dead spots on the neck. The tuners keep their tune flawlessly.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass has held up perfectly. The only thing that's gone wrong with it in the almost-2-years I've had it is that the bass tone pot got a little crackly just from dirt getting in there. I fixed that with a $5 can of "tuner control" stuff from Radio Shack.
I've never needed to adjust anything on the bass at all. The hardware is all flawless after 2 years of use. Bridge still intact, nothing loose, tuners still hold the strings in tune.
The finish is a non-issue because there is no finish - it's straight luthite - doesn't warp, doesn't crack.
The strap buttons are solid as a rock.
I would and do gig without a backup - partially because this is the only bass I own - but I've never even given it a second thought. This sucker is built to last.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with the company.
Which suits me alright.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've been playing bass around 3 years. I bought this one about 2 years ago. I also own an Ovation CS257 acoustic guitar, an old Gibson mandolin, and an old '58 reissue Strat, and I play them all through a Carvin AG100D.
When I was shopping for this bass I was looking for a 5-string in the $5-600 category. I tried out a couple of Yamaha 5's and some Ibanez soundgears. I found this one and took it home the same day.
If this bass was stolen or lost I would buy another one, because it's a hell of a lot of bass for the money.
There's nothing I hate about this bass. It's an incredibly reliable piece of machinery.
So basically, if you're looking at buying this bass, I can tell you that mine, 2 years after I bought it, is still in excellent condition, still plays well, and still sounds fantastic.
I gave this bass a 9 overall, because there are better basses out there (Warwick comes to mind...). But again, if I had rated it for the price, I would have given it a 10.

I'm sure you can find the features on ibanez.com....

Sound : 9
The first time I played this bass, I expected the luthite body to make it sound artificial and lifeless. I was nicely suprised with a nice full sound that I could shape to fit everything from jazz to rock. As far as being noisy, I couldn't tell if it's plugged in or not, it's that quiet. I play a wide variety of music (hard rock, funk, jazz, bluegrass, classical) and between the bass and my amp(ampeg ba115) I can shape the sound to fit all of the styles. I'm taking 1 point off because it doesn't have -perfect- low b clarity. And by perfect, I mean the kind of sound you find on a much more expensive bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I tried very hard to find SOMETHING wrong with it. There were absolutely zero dead notes, the action was low without ANY buzzing, no flaws. I am an incredibly critical person when it comes to the setup from the factory. I give it a BIG ten in this category.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've played it live without a backup consistently. Even when the luthite is scratched, you can barely tell at all. I've been quite careful with it, so I don't know if it would survive a major accident, but if it's anything like ibanez's other instruments, it'll be fine.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with customer support.
It came with a non-transferable 1 year limited warranty.
I read through it and it's a fair warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for several years and own a fender accoustic guitar as well. If I had it stolen I would probably buy it again, possibly spend a little more and get the EDA. I love being progressive and creative with my music. The tonal possibilities are very nice. I do wish it was lighter-you'd be amazed how heavy luthite could be! It's not so bad that it's a real problem, you just might have a sore back after the first couple gigs with it. I compared it to everything I saw, I literaly would go into a shop and play around on every bass I hadn't played before. The next runner up (reasonably priced bass) was a Carvin custom ($700). It really blew away everything in its price range. Play it, you'll be pleasantly suprised.

I think it was made in 99. I bought it in december about 5 months ago. Standard controls Volume, Balance, Pickup selectors, and Middle. Neck and Bridge Ibanez Humbuckers. I just found out there active (shit im stupid) you have to replace the batter about once a year just a regular 9 volt. Best bass I have ever played! I was so amazed by the feel and the sexy look of the bass. Better than some warwicks even. Extra Jumbo frets dot inlays. Everything on this bass screams out GREAT!

Sound : 10
I play death metal grindcore and some black metal. Mainly really heavy fast stuff. THis bass can play anything from Blues and Funk to Punk and Death metal.(though I hate punk) Basiclly bands like Cannial Corpse, Nile, Vader, DIllinger Escape Plan, Immolation, Cryptopsy, Slayer, Incantation, Deicide, and Soilent Green. This bass does it all. Im using an SVT CLassic 350 head and an Ampeg 8x10. I swear the bass makes it louder! even with my ODB Overdrive boss pedal it not noisy. It can handle both stage and studio without a prblem. The only thing i didnt liek is on the 8 and 6th fret theres a little buzzing but I was able to adjust the bridge in like 2 min so now its fine.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
As you may know its made out of Luthite a man made meterial to replace wood. I think luthite has an even better sound then wood. Ibanez dont make the greatest guitars but the kick everyones ass with this bass. THe only other bass's i would play is of course Warwick. The pick ups are perfect though in a couple of months i well be replaceing them with some EMG's but thats my style. No flaws nothing. But thicker neck then usaul for Ibanez's and heavy but ima big guy so trhat doesnt bother me.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have played at least 20 shows in the past 5 months and I will never ever use a back up. As soon as I get new pickups I will get another battrey slot though just incasef it dies on stage. But thats just the pickups. The finish i think is great but on some reviews it says it wears down to a nasty orange i ahevnt seen that yet though. The way its shaped near the neck makes it so comfrotable to play finger picking and slapping and popping. I never use a pick anyway.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I donnu never had to deal with them.

I have been playing for 2 years and this is the best bass i have ever owned. I also oown a GSR200 Ibanez and a Warick THUMB bass. My warwick is a little bitter than my EDB but for death metal the edb is way better. If it was stolen i would hunt down the fucker who took it kill them and get it back. If i couldn't find it I would definitly buy a new one. I also have an EQ Boss Equalizeer Lin 6 Bass pod Boss Chorus and Boss Synthesizer. Maybe in Night Navy this time. The Black Pearl finish is the best i ahve ever seen on a bass before. I think the warrent is liek 5 years i dont remember. What are you doing still reading this get off your ass AND BUY IT!!!

Volume, tone, p/u knobs and 3 eq knobs, very cool I could shape my sound quickly on my bass.

Sound : 10
I play Dreamtheater, Marcus Miller, Metallica, Rage, Tool and many more. Sound I get from this bass is very nice, very punch and great for metal/rock and maybe even jazz. The only downfall is B string sounds good but not GREAT but I'm expecting $1000 bass' B' string sound, so it's not bad at all. The neck is very smooth and easy to move up and down the frets, fingerboard feels very nice too.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Action was great, no buzzing, yet still maintaing very low in action so your fingers can fly.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion

I am actually a guitarist but I selftaught bass three years ago and learned very quickly. I was going to save more money to get american made Fender or Musicman, but then I thought I'd be spending too much money on my hobby when bass isn't my main instrument. So when I saw this bass for $320 I KNEW I had to have this bass, because two of my friends owns this bass(one was my ex-band's bassist so I knew a lot about this bass) and it played and sounded very good. I'm so glad I got this bass for very cheap. I love it.
