Non-locking medium speed but jumbo tuners. 22 fretts, jumbo. A good sized neck. When I first bought it, the action was good, but the strings cut into the nutt, causing uneven action. That I fixed rather easily. It has p and j style pickups, and a fiber glass body, 3 knobs, one for p, one for J, and one for tone. For its class, this guitar actually has a lot of features. Unlike maybe a mexican fender jazz where it only has one pickup, this one has two. Also, it has a catchy shape that you'll fall in love with.
Sound
:

Kind of blendy muffled sound on the p pickup, but can have a little of a twangy pickup on the J. I used a rat guitar pedal to see how it sounded distorted, and found that on weak amps like my practice amp, it screaches way to much. But on more powerful, like my ibanez amp, it has a really actually good, grungy sound you couldn't really find anywhere else for bass.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

The only flaw was that the input jack came loose, and the wire from inside disconnected, forcing me to open my guitar and fix it, but that wasn't really a huge problem. Black finish with silver knobs and silver bridge. Not forget silver tuners.

I have only had this bass for about 6 months, and I already had to make to repair jobs. So with that in mind I wouldn't think it would be too reliable hardware unfortunantly. It does stay in tune okay on a normal bases however. And because of the fact that it does stay in tune, and that it is light and not uncomfortable, I wouldn't mind using it live. I wouldn't use it on tour however because of the fact that the hardware doesn't seem to last.

When you add up the facts, this isn't a horrible beginner guitar, it really isn't. But with a low reliabity in hardware, it is a risk otherwise. It can display a real metal sound through a rat. If my bass were stolen, since it was my first bass, I wouldn't buy it again. Instead I would save and by a more reliable, professional bass.

Made in Japan? 22 frets and 4 strings. apparently it has P & J style pickups, whatever they are. Passive control. It has an agathis body, even though it feels more like solid acrylic. Neck is pretty thin so it makes it easy to play and also faster to play. Included a gig bag and lead, but i got that at the shop when i bought it at a discount price.
Sound
:

I play from Jazz, Blues and rock/metal/grunge/punk, I have a Laney Hardcore amp which is not all that loud, but it does the job. I find that it has a dark deep sound, it sounds better than a lot of other basses i have played in that price range. I like the feel and weight of the bass, but i dislike the volume and tone knobs, it takes a while to get used to figuring them out. I have had it for over a year and have not changed the strings so now they sound dull and lifeless, but they lasted a long time.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
9
Action was too high so now I have lowered it so it is faster and easier to play. When it had the higher action there was a lot of fret buzz, but that is minimal now. As it is a black finish you can see every fingerprint and smudge apart from those problems everything else is fine and there are no problems
Reliability/Durability
:

Never played a gig with it but it seems like it will be useful at one, if I played a gig I would always take a backup just incase. The finish is good, I have hit it on the ceiling a few times when taking it off, but it seems to do more damage to the ceiling. Definatly depend on it, top quality for its price, I have played a Peavey bass in the same price range and that felt like a lump of wood compared to the Ibanez. The strap buttons have held up so far

Been playing over a year, no problems apart from needing to lower the action. The strings finally need changing. Makes a great sound and plays very well. After having it for over a year it has been played in well, can't really compare to the better quality basses but it seems to be undervalued because it is such a good bass, and it is definatly better than other basses of that price, better than the Squire P-Bass and the Peavey one I tried. I would get it again, but I am more likely to upgrade now. It has really help a lot since I started and I would highly recommend it to anyone

My GSR 200 was made earlier this year I think. It's got 22 huge on a 22" neck. It's got both P and J style pick ups which have one tone control each and they share one volume knob. They put out pretty good sound, although sometimes the strings rattle and screw it up. It's got what I'm pretty sure is a mahogany neck and body. Like I said before, It's got jumbo frets and a pretty wide neck. It came with a one year warrenty and an alan wrench. It didn't come with any instructions, but it's not all that hard to figure out.
Sound
:
9
It makes a nice sound, but when the strings rattle it's an entirely different story. Both pickups work well and neither clashes with the other. It makes a dark, warm, clean sound with minimal roaring, though a pedal or distortion equipment, it can do all the roaring anybody'd ever need. I've only had it for about two weeks so I haven't had it on stage yet, but it does well in studio. With a good amp (i've got a rogue that's pretty mediochre), it would sound awesome.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
8
It came in already set up, strings and all. The pickups were already mounted and the knobs were tightened. The only problem was grounding. It makes the amp buzz a little unless you've got a finger on one of the knobs.

This bass is really reliable. I'd have to say it's the best you could find for its price. Definately a good bass for beginners. If it were stolen, I think I'd probably upgrade if I could afford it, but I don't think I'll be getting rid of this thing until it's lying in a gutter being used as a rat breeding ground.

This thing is a four string with 22 frets. Its has passive P and J pickups and three knobs, master and one for each of the pickups volume. It has an agathis body and jumbo frets. I got a black one but it comes in blue and red too. The tuning keys are a nice shiny silver and this thing is a bitch to restring.

I play this through an Ampeg BA115 with a boss ODB-3 and Hyper Fuzz. I play a heavy agressive style of rock, it suits me good. It makes a nice rich sound if you turn both pickups all the way. For anyone who buys this, spend some money and replace the pickups with EMG actives, youll be glad you did.

Made in Indonesia (2000 I think, because the previous reviews indicate a MIK). 22 frets, 4-string. 'Sonokelin' fingerboard (looks like rosewood). Agathis body with 1-pc maple neck. Passive J- and P-style pickups in P-J configuration. Two tone knobs and a volume knobs. Standard bridge and strap buttons. The output jack is located on the side, which is nice.
Two of the features I noticed first about the GSR200 is the neck and the weight. The neck is very slim and short which made it an easy transition from guitar. The bass is also rather light which is a definite plus when playing with a strap. It seems smaller than the only other two basses I've ever played, an Epi and a Fender P-Bass. Overall, good features for the price.
Sound
:

This is my first bass and attempt at learning bass. I've been playing guitar for a couple years, but I haven't developed a ear for good bass tones. It's being used with a Danelectro Nifty Seventy 15W amp. The J-pickup is somewhat muddy, more darker and subdued. It does provide a nice contrast, however, to the P-pickup which has a punchy, funky tone for slap bass. I've only had it for a day, but I find the J and the P pickups sound better when the other is turned down. When both tone knobs are up the sound gets a little messy and there's a bit of hiss.
The pickups (especially the J) could benefit from stronger output, which is my main complaint about the bass. Other than that it sounds fine for practicing or even gigging with as a backup.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
8
Action was set up slightly high, but this is preferable to having low, buzzy action. This bass played better than the Epi & Fender though the Fender had a fuller tone. The construction seems pretty tight; even the tuners, knobs, and strap butttons seem to be solid. There were a few minor cosmetic flaws (the end of the fretboard had a tiny chip, small lines in the finish) but overall an good job for a $200 bass. Jewel blue finish; not as dark as I'd hoped but evenly coated and thick.

Botttom line - great bass for a beginner, particuarly those who have been playing guitar first. Much nicer neck than comparably-priced basses (namely Squier Affinity's) and has both P and J pickups so you can get a taste of each before buying a P- or J-bass later on. A big improvement would be higher output pickups. If it were stolen or lost, I'd probably move up to a MIM Fender. But for the price (~$200) it is playability-friendly, like a lot of Ibanez gear.

Your average cheap bass. 22 frets, P & J pickups, treble, passive electronics (it's only a $200 bass). Probably the best feature is the both Precision and Jazz pickups. This allows for more tone variety.
Sound
:

The bass sounds Ok, not great. Maybe its my setup, but right now I can't get too many different sounds with this thing. Actually before I got the Zoom BFX 708, I could do little more with it than change the amount of treble. Someone said they didn't like the J pickup, but I find it very useful, and it gives it that really "bassy" feel that the fender Precision doesn't have. I should add that this bass is great for slapping, it just has that sound for it.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

This is my first and only bass. I didn't bother changing the action or anything like that when I got it. I know it has really high action, and any other bassist would have trouble with it, but I've become really accustomed to it.
Like most Ibanez basses the neck is really thin. It is really easy to play and the reason I picked it over the Fender was because it fit much better for me. One more thing I should say is that this thing always stays in tune.
One more thing that attracted me to this bass over lets say the Fender or the squire: It doesn't have that dorky pickguard. For me a bass with a pickgaurd just looks like a guitar.

I have been playing this thing for about a year now. I don't know if it's the greatest bass, but it has worked for me. If it were stolen I'd only buy it if I only had 200 bucks to spare. Otherwise I'd buy a better one. I like this one because it has fit me very well, in other words all other basses that I buy will have small necks and a lot of action. I don't like that it has very littl sound variation.
When I tell people I've only been playing a year, they give me a kind of surprised look. I play in 3 bands and my band members sometimes tell to not even bother to come to practice because I know the songs too well. I can't say its because of the bass, but I'm trying to get the point across that this bass is great for a beginner.
Bottom line: Best bass for this price.

1999 model purchased from Sam Ash, made in Korea (I think). 4-string, 22 frets, agatis body, 1 passive Powersound P-pickup, 1 passive Powersound J-pickup. Tone controls for both pickups plus volume control. 0ne-piece maple neck, mine has the transparent red finish. Standard stainless steel bridge, (imitation?) Gotoh tuners, no accessories included. This bass has a much thinner neck than most other basses. Since I moved to bass from guitar I loved it, but many complain it doesn't feel "substantial" enough. however, since this is pretty much a "beginner" bass, chances are it'll be your first bass, so that won't matter. (I can't imagine anyone moving from a Fender or Gibson bass to a $200 Ibanez). Nothing here I can find fault with, even the tuners & knobs are high quality. Good, basic instrument, and Ibanez didn't cut any corners as far as construction goes.
Sound
:

Good, clean sound from the passive pickups - great for rock/pop/country/whatever. I have heard some people complain about the output level of the pickups being too low, but I have nothing to compare it too so I wouldn't know. Not a problem with my EQ with level control, anyways. Probably not the best for slap or jazz, but if you're at that level you have probably moved on to a more advanced instrument by now. I use this bass with a Trace elliot 100-watt Commando combo, and get virtually no noise (except through some of my exceptionally noisy effects). Bright tone, not exceptionally full. I have played it with others and was very happy with the sound - I eventually would like something with a little dirtier sound and more growl, but I eventually plan on picking up a Gibson with a humbucker for this. Ibanez obviously designed this bass to sound very clean to appeal to the widest range of players.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

No complaints at all - I originally went to Sam Ash to check out their Carlo Robelli house-brand basses. After going through three basses that were completely umplayable (to the point that the sales rep took them to be returned) I tried the Ibanez through a Hartke Kickback and loved it. The store set it up for me and did a great job - it didn't need much done to it, anyways. The finish is beautiful and all the hardware was in perfect condition and (still) looks great. Most experienced musicians who check out this bass are amazed when I tell them how inexpensive it was. Some of the pots are getting a little noisy, but that's to be expected and it isn't anything a little contact cleaner won't fix.
Reliability/Durability
:

I won't hesitate to play out with this bass when I get the opprotunity, and I have complete faith in its durability. Seems like it will last a long, long time. Even after I move on to a more advanced bass, I think I will always hang on to this one as a backup. Solid stainless strap buttons that haven't let me down, I think I might go to strap locks just for the added peace of mind. Hasn't needed any adjustment yet, but I am starting to get some fret buzz when I play near the neck, so I might take it into the shop soon to get the intonation set and a general once-over.

I switched to bass after playing guitar on-and-off for a couple years. I tend to be really picky, so I shopped around for a while before deciding on this bass. If it were stolen and I couldn't afford to move up to a better instrument, I would definitely consider purchasing another one of these. I have no complaints at all about it, overall a great instrument that you won't outgrow quickly, and you won't suffer embarrasment from playing a "generic" instrument in front of others. it looks and sounds as good as other instruments costing hundreds more. You should try any instrument before you buy it, but if you are looking for a high quality beginner's bass or a cheap backup that won't sound like crap, the GSR200 is great.

I am a beginning bass player, however I provided it to a friend at a local music shop here in Panama City and he was quite pleased at the punchiness and tone for such an inexpensive piece. I use it with a Fender BXR 100 amp and a Zoom 708 effects pedal. I can get all manner of zooty sounds from this pedal, but even with everything cranked clean it is crisp and clear with little hum until you're almost turned completely up on volume. I prefer the P pickups to the J, since the sound of the J seems somewhat muddy. The tone knob does compensate somewhat for the muddiness on the J pickup however. With this amp combo, I could easily remove the interior wall of my back bedroom with the volume on the amp cranked up over 2/3 and gain at 5.

This puppy is flawless, and has a really nice feel for such an inexpensive tool. The action seems a bit high for my tastes from the factory, but there were no loose parts and generally its quite a nicely finished bass. The neck is narrow and well tapered and very comfortable for my stubby fingers.

I would not hesitate to play with this rig in a live situation once I get to that point. Everything seems strong enough to withstand playing out, although I have wondered how the tuners would hold up...they just look a bit spindly and vulnerable. I baby this thing now, so it hasn't had to prove anything to me yet. I think the finish will last a long time, and is beautiful and deep. The strap buttons are quite secure and substantial, not like some plastic jobs I have seen on guitars of this same price range. These appear to be stainless and strong. This thing has held a tune perfectly since I got started with it three months ago. I keep it in the bedroom and seldom bend strings, so it just keeps on going strong. I don't see why I wouldn't use it without a backup, but they are so inexpensive, I could buy a couple more just for fun. I think I would pick a more expensive model for my next bass with active, humbucking pickups and luthite body to see what thats like.

I owned a Yamaha bass that I paid $250 for a couple of years ago, but the neck was so uncomfortable (thick)I never got interested in it and ended up selling it. It had a single set of P pickups but I don't remember it sounding that good either. I love this little Ibanez and always look forward to sitting down to a good evening of play with it. Thats really what all this is about, isn't it?
