22 frets, 4 strings, volume pots for each pickup and a tone control. Two passive pickups. Mahogany body, rosewood fingerboard. Non-locking tuners. Iceman style body.

Absolutely gorgeous sunburst finish; no picture I've seen does it justice. The beauty of the basses is what got me interested in playing bass in the first place (no exaggeration) after playing 9 years of classical and a few years of electric guitar.

Also, be aware that the pickups are not a standard size, so replacing them would most likely require some routing.

Sound : 9
For me, this bass serves pretty much any purpose quite well. While the tone tends towards the treble end, when turned to 1 or below on the tone dial the sound gains that tone you feel more with your bones than your ears. It works wonderfully for harmonics, slap, jazz, and just about any genre of music that I've tried. Definitely better than any other bass I've tried in the same price range.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The factory setup was perfect. Owned it for about a year now, and no problems yet.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Everything about it is dependable. If I had a backup I would bring it, just because **** happens.

Haven't had to deal with them.

While the shape could be uncomfortable for some, it's perfect for me. The strap buttons are a bit oddly placed, so that it would lean forward a little bit while standing up, but I put both ends of the strap on the button by the neck, which solves the problem and allows me to adjust the angle of the bass with ease. I could not be happier with the purchase.

My Iceman is a 2008, made in Korea. It's the only foreign instrument I have wanted and bought. I love it for it's neck binding, big fret markers, and fat neck. I only wish it was neck-though, like it's 6-string counterpart.
The tone control knob, to my ear, doesn't affect the sound much, but it has a good, thick sound regardless. The pickups are two, gold, passive, mini-humbuckers, and yes, they are not the loudest, but compared to most stock pick-ups, they do just fine. I use a clearer setting on my amp, and turn it up a notch from where I play my Peavey with a Seymore Duncan.
The body is mahogany, beautiful, and gets a lot of notice. I have large hands, and the 22 big frets are perfect for me. It stays in tune, has long sustain, and like I said, the neck binding makes it a step above the rest.

Sound : 9
I play and sing in a hard rock cover band, and the tone is quite fat enough to support a three-piece. It is not noisy at all, and sounds good whether I pick or use fingers. It slaps and pops great. It would be better with bigger/louder pickups, but like I said, just turn up the amp a notch or two and it is plenty loud enough.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I have not had to adjust it much at all. I raised the pick-ups a bit. The neck is straight, and I play tuned down a half step, and the action is right where I want it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I use it at every live show and it seems like it will last forever. If the finish starts to wear, it will add to the vintage look anyway.
The strap buttons are big and secure. It will take a dive if you let go of the neck, but just get a leather strap and problem solved. Make it a very long leather strap due to the strap button locations.
I always take a back-up with me, I haven't needed it.

I have had no problems, and no need to call for support.

I have been playing for years and have a Peavey Fury. I would buy another Iceman bass. I love the look and feel, the sound is great, and it is very unique.
I have compared it to other basses, and I realized for the price, I couldn't afford not to buy it.
The only things I wish it had was neck-through construction, and hotter pick-ups.
It is a big bass, which is good for me, but difficult to find a case for, unless you buy the factory case. I had a big TKL case, and with just a little foam removal, my Iceman fits nice and snug.

This is a korean made instrument that features 20 frets, a 34 inch scale, and four strings. It has dual humbuckers, all gold hardware, with two volume controls and one tone knob. It does not feaure a pick-up selector which is one problem I have with it. The bolt on neck is a little touchy and has required a couple of set ups in the four months I've had it. The mahogany body is fairly light and pretty punchy. I bought this because the neck felt great in my hands and the looks are killer. Daron Malakian played the guitar version of this bass for System of a Down prior to Mesmerize/Hypnotize. Many people complain of neck dive on this bass, but that's true of most basses I've played. I've made it a habbit to keep my hand on the neck at all times and I've had no problems. The biggest problem is the wretched buzz I get when I down tune. I spent hours adujusting the truss rod to try and eliminate it before resorting to taking it to the music store. It didn't allieve the problem however, so I'm now forced to use my terrible Washburn for down tuned playing. The tuners are good and keep the bass in tune fairly well when it's left alone. I have to tune once or twice while jamming out however, mainly due to all the bends I do when I play. This bass has a killer stage presense though.

Sound : 6
The sound is leaned heavily towards the middle to top end of the spectrum. To prevent this, I keep the tone knob below two at all times. Not a real bassy sound to it, but the neck feels like it was fitted for my hands and the shape of the body was so wicked. My GK rig has plenty of room for EQing the sound that I need however so I didn't really need to worry about the sound of the instrument to much. It's deffinely got a rock tone to it though.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The finish is stellar. The sunburst finish really draws you in. The fit is supperb. The bridge is secured tightly along with the pickups and tuners. The real problem I've had is that I can't down tune without outrageous buzz.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass is built for the road. The case is about 110 bucks, but it's good and sturdy. The finish is great and hasn't really scratched during the heavy play I put it through. The strap buttons are solid and are not in the most ideal place, but just deal with it. You know that Ibanez meant for this bass to be roadworthy just by the shape of the body. It just screams to be rocked in front of thousands of people. I haven't played to that large of an audience but I'd be more than happy to with this beauty.

The only thing I've had done since getting this bass was a set up and Dietze music performs all set ups free for the first year.

Overall Rating : 7
I've been playing bass for two years and finally got a decent bass to replace my busted up Washburn. If it was stolen I'd replace it immediately. I went to three different states to find the right bass and other than the buzz with down tuning I am completely happy with my purchase. 400 bucks is a very small price for what you are getting. Just be sure you actually like the bass before you buy as I've heard that they are hard to sell. The radical body style turns a lot of people off.

Just received my brand new 2005 Iceman bass and simply love it. It has a beautiful finish and plays like a dream.

Sound : 9
I am an amateur Muscian and have been playing off and on for over 20 years. It has a very rich full sound. Like the light weight but big sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action is a little higher than I like but I am going to have it professionally set up.The finish was excellent.

The local shop I ordered it from treat me like a king and stand behind their products no matter what.

If it came in a white or a black or other color variety I would buy another one for backup. This is my fourth bass. I also have two Fenders and a Gibson.

This one was made in Japan in 2004. The neck is maple with a rosewood fingerboard. It's got some nice block inlays. The electrics are simple, 2 passive mini humbuckers, 2 volume controls, 2 tone controls. The hardware's pretty nice for an Ibanez. The bridge is better than the bridge on my PBass and the tuners hold up quite well. I'd like it alot better if it was a 32" scale instead of 34".

Sound : 8
The mini humbuckers put out a great sound. You can get tons of tone variation out of them. When I kick on my boss overdrive pedal, the sound get's a little too high on the treble side, but it can be EQ'd down. Sometimes the fret noise is really dominant, sometimes you can't hear it at all and that bugs me a bit. For passive pickups, they sound really good, people always think they're active. The sounds you can get out of it sound alot like Geddy Lee's tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I have pretty small hands but I like a thick neck on a bass (I even play a Les Paul bass sometimes) but this neck is too thin and flat. So thin and flat that I think it negatively affects my playing. The action is pretty good. The E is a little was a little too low but it's easily adjustable. The pickups needed some raising. The finish is ok but I already put a big ding on the lower right hand side, but you'd have to turn the bass to it's side to see it. It might be something with my fingers because this is common for me, but every bass I have with a rosewood fretboard ends up with deep scratches inbetween frets and this one's no exception. The finish on the back of the neck is VERY thin and I think I'm going to have to have it refinished because theres a spot that's just not finished at all. I'm not really sure about it but it looks like it could be a mineral streak in the wood that wouldn't hold the thin finish.

Hasn't broken down yet so I can't really say. In the event it does, I'll post a follow-up.

Never dealt with Ibanez.

Overall Rating : 8
The sound is alot better than my Fender Pbass and the playability's also better except for the thin/flat neck... If someone stole this bass I'd get the double cut semi-hollow Ibanez Artcore bass (same price, I can't remember the model) because the sound is similar but the neck is better on the Artcore.
