This is better than my hand built basses - it is just so much easier to play than many ??1000+ hand built basses. It just set a new standard and except for fitting heavier strings for more growl I cannot fault it.

I have the 4 string Ibanez SR900 with maple finish, features are as listed above. Best feature is the nice pickups.
for the price should have come with a hard case. -1 point
Sound

This thing sounds great, I play in a cover band. we play mainly classic rock through to top 40 stuff. this bass can handle it all with ease.
the on board 3 band eq is great, can adjust the sound as needed, very smooth and consistent.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
came from the factory and played a few gigs before fine tuning the action, anly needed a few small adjustments and was good, had it over 2 years now and haven't needed to re-adjust.
Everything on the bass is finished well and can stand up to regular gigging, I also have to mention how light and easy it is to have on the shoulder.
Reliability/Durability

This bass has done on about 220 gigs over the past 2 years, apart for adjustments at new and batteries and a set of srtings it hasn't needed anything. I am of the "if it aint broke don't fix it" breed and am extremely happy with the low maintenance.
The finish has work of a bit on the back where it scrapes the button on my shirt, but i think it looks authentic.
Strap Buttons are great solid and wide brimmed so as note to let go of a strap even with jumping about and so on.
I dont gig with a backup, in 10 years i have never needed one.

This thing is the best gigging bass that i could find, its light, versatile and sounds great. I would not trade it for anything else. I have also owned the 5 string of the same model and that was the same.
Sounds Awesome, stays in tune all night.
Highly recommended

Okay the specs: 2 Bartolini Mk1 soapbar pickups, 3 band eq, Mthfkn thinnn Maple + Bubinga neck through a Maple body, rosewood fretboard, 24 medium frets, oval abalone fretmarkers, string through body bridge, gunmetal/nickel hardware. Mine is the transperant black, though it shiftsfrom grey to even purple in different lighting (and thanks to the black/purple bubinga strip running through it) Smooth satin finish, with a lot of grain for extra detail (looks almost like a quilt finish.) Usual soundgear style countoured body, but with an additional ergodyne style back contour (good for the beer gut, not that I have that issue lol)got it with a crappy gig bag, but now she lives in a case. Other than throwing in a 18volt eq for extra headroom and maybe some better quality hardware she's loaded with great features, kudos ibanez this is asclose as yer gonna get to a prestige bass in this price range.

Soundwise this baby can handle pretty much anything thrown at it, Bart's have always been my fave pickup's so I kinda knew what I was getting, however due to the unpolished maple, and that sweet bubinga core running through it this bass just pumps out pure tonal warmth. I I usually stick to the heavy stuff.. thrash, black or death metal.. but I dabble with classic rock as well and even some indie when I need too.. this beast handles them all with the flick of a few dials.. I can churn out anything from Morbid Angel and Obituary, through to Radiohead or Cream. The 3 band eq is pretty sweet, one volume, a blend and bass/mid/treble controls, all with varying degrees of intensity that allow an easy mix. It can go from barking metal style bass with some mids thrown in, to a warm growly jazz tone (albiet a bit modern sounding, think an active fender j and yer close) and thanks to that string through body, even lower tunings sound bright and crisp. This has the guts to handle pretty much anything you throw at it, but remember yer not going to get a completely 'passive' tone out of it if that's what your after.. but it sure gets close. A true swiss army knife bass.

Ah ibanez.. I'm always tredding softly when it comes to factory setups from these guys, they have a reputation of "nice instrument.. after it took me 4 hours to set the godamn thing up!".. and in the case of the sr900.. well.. not so, this came stright off the shop floor, re-strung through the bridge, set the action lower and tweaked the intonation, and bingo.. no problems. Not a buzzy fret to be found.
Even the cavity had been wired up nicely, no loose wires or shoddy soldering, very nice. The finish was immaculate, nice and even staining and not patchy like some basses (yeah warwick corvette $$ I'm looking at you.) The hardware was finished nicely, control knobs set straight on the pots, stable rock solid input and bridge. Hell even the abalone is top notch, doesn't look like factory seconds. The only niggle I had to deal with was a slightly loose tuning screw but after a touch of a screwdriver it was sorted. I've played a hell of alot of basses and I have to say this had the most pro level setup of a 'mid to high' level bass I have ever seen.. about bloody time ibanez. Now they just need to fix that screw in battery compartment.
Reliability/Durability

Ok here's the thing.. I'm sure this bass will withstand many gigging situations and all of the hardware seems long lasting. But, being an exposed body, the wood can get dented easily.. this isn't luthite folks, it's maple.. maple is soft.. luckily I am a very careful bass owner (and at $2000 NZ for this one I bloody well should be!) and the finish is heavily stained so as long as it's kept in dent free condition it'll look as good as when I bought it years from now. The strap buttons are pretty rock solid, drilled into the horn deep and screwed tight, very impressed. And it's a neck through, so other than warping from extreme heat etc I don't see it having any neck problems in the near future. I would definatly use this without a backup, just make sure you keep an extra battery handy and a small screwdriver just in case... oh and keep her away from the drunk guys in the bar.

Geezus, finding this bass was like finding the holy grail.. I must have been through 20+ basses in the last year and a half before I have settled on this. I have owned everything from fenders to gibson & epiphone, ibanez, warwick, peavey, tobias, jackson, ESP, Dean, Cort.. and none of them have had 'that' tone until now. I've been a bassist for close to 16 years now and I'm very picky and indecisive but I have finally found one I will stick with. The best thing for me on this bass is that ultra thin neck.. it makes a jazz bass neck look fat, which allows for some fast shredding, and some beautiful full chordal work without any finger cramping fuss. This bass beat out a warwick $$ corvette, a usa fender jazz deluxe and a schecter studio 4 along with some various basses such as an ESP LTD-B1000.. the only thing that came close was a high end BTB, but this was more in my price range, plus it sits well in the mix with the bands I play in. It it were stolen I would track the guilty party down and violently end them.

It sounds VERY nice no matter what you play, becuase it has a 3 band eq it can be adjusted to any style. It has 2 bartolini pickups that give out a really good quality sound.

This bass has no flaws at all, it plays extremely well, I have never played a bass that feels better. When it comes to buying a new bass it will be very hard because it will need to match or beat this one, which is not easy. The action was setup perfectly when I bought it and I have never had problems with it. I have once had a problem with one of my tuning pegs coming loose but I'm pretty sure that was a one off and It's never happened again. It's pretty heavy but thats easy to get used to.

Great string through/neck through body fundamental tone. Got the six peice wood through the body, looks great and I beleive it has positive tone aspects with this bass. Nice EQ/pickups capable of a wide range of great tones in studio or otherwise.
Sound
:10
Sound shaping is highly flexible. Babinga/maple keeps it bright and resonant. Pretty easy to emulate bright P and mellow J to hard mid rock tones, with it's own original flavor. The wide range of boost and cut on the EQ can be used conservatively to add brightness and boom respectively, not much is needed to do so, the extremes provide some downright nasties through a tube amp. This kind of nasty I personally dig. I would rather have a wide range out to over the top than the limited EQ that barely seems to alter the tone as some manufacturers (remaining nameless) feel they just got it absolutely perfect, no need to adjust much....maybe they are right, just make sure your amp sounds good with it.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Sweet, plays like a dream for me, although I came up with Ibanez basses/guitars. Own Gibson, Fender...keep comeing back. Like the finish antique flat violin, freinds/bandmates comment regularly that it looks "bad@ss!" Clean, well put together. Slight buzz...which is sort of expected from this line, it's not terribly obvious, for me it's actually part of the feel I grew up with. Other than that it came out of the box with a very nice basic even low action and setup.

well uh...yeah sure, I'll just call korea...or ibanez usa, honestly, the thought never even occurs to me to call for support from ibanez, after owning several ibanez guitars/basses over many years. My imagination covers that well enough, impossible phone contact, etc. Perhaps if I had a huge endorsement deal with my name on the headstock or backplate...this guitar has no back plate though neck through body, they would have to carve my name into the back of the body i guess...haha!
The warranty passes by in a flash, I fix what I can, figure out the rest, or go to a local dealer.

Great working musician instrument with pro features, nice finish, quality, sound, and playability. The price tag is basically good considering the value, but geez guys, could you include a truss rod wrench, a case, a strap, or something beyond the crappy 1/4" guitar chord and manual that has all products and half a small page about models sort of like this one...just tossed in the box like a perfunctory afterthought? Bonuses for overall quality, nice elixer strings, and sound/playability brought you from "bass-ically" a 7 back up to a 9...almost a 10 here. It's that good...I can't complain really.

Ive been playing bass for years 24. This is my only bass right now. My other bass got stolen an Ibanez PL5050 so i purchased another Ibanez for insurance purposes. I love the neck through curved body. This is the best feature on this bass. I still think the EMG PJ sound is the best for my liking. I brought it home two months ago and still getting used to it. I never tried the SR1000 with the Prestige neck. The looks of the SR1000 i didnt go for. A fender american jazz with the maple fretboard and the alder body is a bass i would also like to have and also a Euro Spector. I like the way my picking hand sits over the strings. Geddy Lee Fender Jazz bass is another one I like. I didnt need another bass just my old one got stolen. This PL5050 was an excellent bass i really loved it custom EMG PJ pickups. Anyway this bass is a beautiful bass and gonna keep it for many years .

Korean made 2005 4-string Ibanez SR900. Has matching headstock, 2 octave rosewood fingerboard with oval inlays, easy-to-play soundgear neck (at least for me as I don't have terribly large hands), sleek and comfortable contoured figured maple body, neck-thru construction, and Ibanez accu-cast bridge with string-thru body option. The electronics include 2 passive Bartolini MK-1 soapbar pups and MK-1 active 3-band eq (bass, mid, treble) with volume and pup blend controls. This bass has numerous top quality features found on many basses costing well over twice the price of this bass. Only thing I wish it had was a passive option.
Sound
:10
This bass is extremely versatile. This bass combined with any standard amp controls is very suitable for a wide variety music (rock, blues, jazz, metal). It has a more modern tone, but you can get sounds that are similar to jazz and p-bass tones, although the active electronics keeps it from sounding 'old school.' You can get gobs of midrange, growly tones to deep, smooth tones. I can't comment on slap tones as I'm not a slapper and haven't experimented with these tones. The tone of an instrument is so subject and varies from one to the other, but for me this bass has the sound that I have been looking for after going through around 20 basses over the last 5 years.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
I can't comment how the action for this bass was set-up at the factory as I bought it from BassNW - they setup every instrument to your specifications before shipping it to you. But, it was setup extremely well for my preferences - really low action with no fret buzz. The pups were adjusted well, which is how it came from the factory. The finish on this bass is a flat stain without a glossy clearcoat. The thing I love about this finish is that it doesn't show smudges and fingerprints very easily. The drawback is that it doesn't have that shiny glossy sheen. Nonetheless, it is quite beautiful and the figured maple shows through nicely. This bass balances perfectly. This bass has no flaws whatsoever. I've tried many handmade instruments, and the build quality for this bass is as good or better. I am very impressed with this bass.
Reliability/Durability
:No Opinion
I really can't comment on the reliability/durability of this bass as I've only owned it for a month. But I can say that it appears very well built and seems verys solid. While I really like the finish on this bass, the only thing I'm a little worried about is how well the finish will hold up without the clearcoat.

I've been playing for 7 years and have tried many different basses. I've been somewhat of a handmade in the USA snob. This SR900 has made me change my thinking. While I still think that generally the US handmade models are of overall better quality, some of the Korean built instruments are of exceptional quality, and the SR900 is definitely one of them. I really don't think you'll find a better instrument at the price I paid for this bass. This bass has made its way to being my main player, over other instruments many times to cost. I highly recommend this bass for the serious gigging bassist.

I am actually a guitarist so I haven?t really played the bass that much, I just witnessed its greatness last night at rehearsal.
Wow.... 24 frets, 5 pc. Maple/Bubinga Neck thru body & string thru body make this thing have huge tone and great sustain. The active Bartolini pickups are some of the hottest pickups I have ever heard in a bass. Several tone controls that seem to be basically freq. scoops, lots of possibilities here. It is a nice transparent black finish so you can still see the woodgrain. Accucast Bridge seems very sturdy so far, very sleek looking.
Sound
:10
I play lead guitar in a death metal band and our singer purchased this bass just a few days...so our bassist used it for rehearsal last night just to check it out and compare it with his fender and cort bass's. He plays thru a Carvin redline 1000 watt head and a Ampeg 8x10... In my opinion, this bass made a HUGE difference; the tone was SO tight on all levels. The low end was so fat and tight sounding not "woofy", the mids were very punchy and the highs where extremely bright and crystal clear.
In my opinion this bass was like night and day compared to his Fender Jazz Custom and his Cort (not sure of the model, active pickups). I was just blown away by the huge dynamics in sound that this bass added. I, as a guitarist LOVE to hear huge bass tone just plowing thru during a set, and this thing definitely was doing just that...
It has so many tone shaping controls Im sure that any bassist could nail his desired sound for any type of music. One major thing that I noticed is on accents and other notes played with a bit more force the bass would push the 10" drivers perfectly and not clip, unlike some times with his other basses. The bartolini pickups seemed to really tighten up the frequencies and stay clear, as if he was running a BBE Sonic Maximizer, but he is not. WOW!
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
The action is very low and fast, I love these sound gear necks, so thin in both profile and at the nut.
One thing that I noticed is the A on the G string (2nd fret) had a bit of buzzing like a dead fret. I checked the neck and noticed it was a bit out of whack in the first 2 positions on the high strings. The bass had a inspection sticker when he first got it so Im not sure if this was accidentally let out or it occurred by shipping or handling at the store. I can fix it with a quick adjustment of the truss rod but inexperienced players would definitely have to take this to a guitar tech to get looked at, it?s not a big deal in my book but to some this could be really bad.
The finish is great, very deep looking. I noticed no other flaws. I will still give it 10 as I don?t think the factory would have let the neck out like this.
