Purchased in April 2003 for$500 including hard shell case because I was friends with the owner. 5 string, active EQ, most of the features are already covered

I play mostly metal and punk and this works great! I've used mainly a Hartke Kickback 15 with this amp, but I've also used fenders and other assorted amps. Whatever you plug this into it sounds good. A slight hum comes out of the neck pick up, but other than that the pick ups are great. With the active EQ you can get everything from a nice dark metal sound to a ncie briht jazzy type sound. I love the sound of this bass like no other. The only 2 things I don't like are the slight hum from the neck pick up and also I sometimes forget to unplug the lead from the bass resulting in a dead 9 volt battery when I go to play next.

Don't know how it was set up from the factory. I play left handed and this is a right handed bass. So right away when I purchased it, the store owner set it up as a lefty for me. He knew exactly hwo I like my instruments set up and set it up perfectly so that I could just pick it up and play comfortably with it. However I can't speak of how it would be directly from the factory.

Have used this bass countless times in my church and at other gigs. Brought a back up with me occasionally but never had a reason to use the backup. The finish seems to be holding up great, it could be from always keeping a watchful eye on it or from a good paint job, but you can't go wrong with a Jackson. Strap buttons are nice and oversized to prevent straps from falling off, but i still used the good old washer trick just to solve this, but the bass is like a feather so I doubt the straps woudl have any issues. One more thing, I moved to New Zealand and on the flight I jsut checked the bass in as luggage in it's hard shell case with loosened up strings. I got of fthe plane, tuned up and it wa as perfect as ever. No neck adjustments have ever been needed.

Great bass! I would reccomend one of these to anyone. I got it because I was ready to move up to my second bass and found an amazing deal on this one. I picked it up off the store shelf and played it up-side down(I do play lefty) and fell in love with it immediately. I've nver been let down by this bass. It's really an awesome bass. And it is the best smelling thing I've ever smelled (even better smelling than my wife).

Read the reviews below. They all coved the features pretty well. I would like to point out the slap switch feature. It's great for cutting out all the mids when you want that really funky sound used in slap bass. I thought leaving the slap switch on when not in use was killing the 9v batteries, but it turns out I have a short somewhere.

I play alt. rock, metal, and play around with funk and such as well and it sounds great all the time. The single coil has a little hum to it, but that is to be expected. Goes from low heavy to high slappy and eveything in between. This guitar has an awesome range. The slap switch gives you a great sound and added feature as well.

I don't know how the factory set it up. The music store guy said he had to adjust it some, however. It did have one loose tone knob.

I haven't used it live, but would be willing to. The hardware & finish seems to be built to last. The strap buttons are oversized, so I probably won't bother changing them out. So far, also in the first 4 months of ownership no neck adjustments needed, but I can tell that I might need one soon.

This is my 13th year playing bass. The first 6 months were spent learning on a no name cheapo, and the next 12.5 years were spent playing a wonderful Fender Precision. The Jackson C5MJ was what it took for me to finally switch to a 5 string, active electronics bass.

Including hard case with Jackson embossed in plastic. Cool.
2000 model made in Japan. 5 string with active electornics.
Jazz + Humbucker pickups. Bolt on neck. Sealed tuners, angled
headstock (no cheezy string trees a la Fender). All metal pieces are
satin finshed. Convertable bridge (either string thru
body or traditional). Stunning trans-red finish. Maple
neck (traditional thin Jackson style), rosewood finger
board.

Sounds really good for both highs and lows. The humbucker
really does the trick for eliminating hum. Played thru
a Peavey TNT with NO EFFECTS. Can get a buncha sounds
out of this bass, from piercing highs to really boomy
lows. Overall, the output level can be fairly well balanced over
all the strings, but you'll hafta tweek the knobs a bit.

From the factory, it was not set up very well. The intonation
was not even close and the action on the A string was
quite high. The bridge is easy to adjust and stays put,
so these annoyances were easy to address. I wish the strings
were more parallel, but this is because of the design of the
brigde. As far as the finish on the body - oh my God it is
beautiful. The transparent colors for this bass are
worth the extra bux. Due to a screw up at one of their
distributors, the trans-red was partictulary hard to get
(> 3 months). They had a error in the part number in their
inventory system (or so I was told). Anywho, the trans-red
looks hot. The neck is typical Jackson thin (either you'll
love it or you'll hate it) One of the pots became scratch
only after 3 months. Shielding and soldering is good.
No separate battery compartment, which is annnoying.

So far so good. Gig without a backup all the time. Replaced
the strap buttons with strap-locks. This bass is pretty light.

All of my electric guitars are Jackson, as is my four string.
They don't put out junk. I would buy another Jackson guitar
as long as it was made in the USA or Japan. (The newer, cheaper, lines
made in Korea are not up to stuff.) I never had to deal with them.

I bought this bass sight unseen. I have a Jackson
Futura EX pro and these Jackson necks are incredible.
Very comfortable. My Futura really only get's played
now by guitar players and 4 string players that get
freaked out by 5 strings.
