This is a Japanese-made KBX Kelly bass by Jackson. It is a 22 fret model with alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard and sharkfin inlays. The pickups are Duncan-Designed with active electronics and feature Volume, Blend, Bass, Mid, Treb and a toggle switch. Pretty straight-forward. Gives you plenty of options and tonal variations but doesn't screw around with anything you don't need. The controls are extensive enough that you can mess around forever and still not run out of options.

I play a wide variety of music, everything from punk and prog rock to metal. Basically, I wanted a bass that covers the tonal spectrum and this does a great job of just that. I'm using a Marshall 60 watt solid state combo amp. My amp is really crappy, I get some unwanted noise from it, but none from the bass. Plugged into anything else, this thing sounds amazing. I need a new amp before I'll ever need a new bass. The tone that this bass achieves runs the gamut from warm and fuzzy lows to cutting, glassy highs. There are times I miss the earthy-ness and depth of a passive bass, but my low end from this Kelly does the job. If you want bright, clangy highs or thudding, roaring lows, you can get it. One of the thing that will surprise you if you're switching from passives to actives is the amount of power you will get from the bass. The tone is very "big" and forceful. Perfect for metal. I'll give it a "9" in this category... only because it doesn't emulate my old passive as well as I'd like. Other than that, it can do everything under the sun. Killer tone for many genres.

This is an area that the bass REALLY shines in. Most people are used to flubs and problems with foreign-made, moderately priced instruments. NOT WITH JACKSON!! MIJ Jacksons are the best values for money I've found. There isn't anything wrong with this bass that I can find. The action is nice and low. Playing it is super comfortable. I can play much faster with this bass that I can with my other one. Everything about it exudes quality, from looks to how solid it is to the set-up. It's amazing what a good job they did for the money. MIJ Jacksons are as nice as some companies American-made models. I would recommend this bass to anyone. It's a dream to play.

Everything on this bass seems really solid. I wouldn't doubt it for a second. Jacksons last.

I've been playing for about three years. I also play guitar, but this is the first Jackson I've owned. I'm now a Jackson fan permanently. This is such a great buy, everything about this bass is cool, from the style (looks) to the playability to the sound... you name it, if it rocks, this bass will do it for you. There's nothing about this bass I would change. 10.

this is a 2003 jackson kbx 4 string bass made in japan. it has 22 frets with shark fin inlays that are perloid and look very nice. It has seymour duncan soapbar pick ups that are passive but has active electronics..master volume, blend between 2 pick ups (middle and bridge) bass cut/boost, midrange cut/boost, treble cut/boost. it also has a midrange switch that cuts the mids. it has a maple neck thats bolts on the an alder body and has a deep candy blue finish. has a deluxe bridge that is either top load or string thru body. it has extra jumbo frets and a very fast neck. has mini tuners that are not that nice.

the body style of this bass fits my style but the sound is lacking...my other bass is a fender american jazz bass deluxe and it blows this bass away by far. the pickups on the kbx are really crappy and dont give me the sound i like. im definetly more into jazz pick ups as opposed to soapbars..i play thrash/metal..the cliff burton style and rex brown..u can tweek the sound a lil bit with this bass but im goin to definetly get new pick ups and a new preamp b/c they really suck ass. the overall look and play ability of the bass i love, the neck is bad ass and the inlays are really sweet but the pickups really kill this bass and so does the preamp. One thing i do like about the electronics is the midrange switch ..when i want a boost for doing a solo with distortion i just flip it and get the sound im lookin for

the action was set very nicely..not to low and no fret buzz and easy to play..needed new strings. it came with light gauge strings and i play in C# tuning so it wasnt happening for me so i had to change them right away. the pick ups needed no adjustment, but they will be removed and replaced with nicer ones like some EMG dc's. the finish on the bass was beautiful and not one flaw was found. the tuners are not that nice and seem to move around when there are no strings on them. the nut is made of plastic and i had to mess around with it to work with my heavy gauged strings. i play with .115, .90, .80, .60 strings.

this bass seems like it will take a beating..i dont really have any worries about it breaking down except for the tuners.. they seem really cheap and the bridge also looks as though it will need to be replaced further down the road. I wouldnt play any gig with out an back up bass and i would definetly bring this one but it would be my back up b/c my fender kicks its ass completely

ive been playing bass for 2 years now and i own a fender american jazz bass deluxe and i play through a SWR super red head i bought this bass as a back up and just so i had a bass that looks good and as more of a "project" bass..i knew when i bought this that i was goin to have to make some replacements to get it up to my standards. if someone stole this bass i would replace it but maybe look for an old gibson explorer instead.
