2007 Jerry Jones Shorthorn
Purchased from Indoor Storm. They were very friendly and helpful.
2 pick-ups
All the features you need. No gimmicks.

Sound : 10
Tons of tone.
Don't listen to others about what kind of strings to use. Use what you like.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It is a simple economical design that Jerry Jones makes playable.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Can't comment on durability as I have only had it for a couple of weeks. Can't see there being a problem here.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I can only hope at this time there will be no service hassles if ever there is a need for service.

Overall Rating : 10
I am still discovering the sounds this great bass can produce. So far, it exceeds expectations.
If you need a perfect case, Long & McQuade (Canada) sells a teardrop bass case that fits this like a glove. It is a generic case, so I am sure you can get one anywhere.

Features : 7
Made in 2005 Nashville TN USA
Paid $700.00 including hard shell case- Indoor Storm
Shortscale bass 28"
Made of wood and some type masonite with a masonite type of mortar around the edges
2 controls for 2 passive lipstick pickups
Classic Dano style
Fast neck
Action was perfect out of the box, I believe the folks at Indoor Storm set it up
I rate it for features as a 7 only because it doesn't need a lot of features, but the ones it has work perfectly well

Sound : 10
This bass is perfect for punk/garage rock. It has that great retro look. I also have a Danelectro re-issue, which is a piece of crap. You get what you pay for. The Jerry Jones costs twice as much but it is well worth it. The sound can be punchy, warm, or bright. It is light and has a great stage presence. Anybody who knows anything about basses will come up to have a look at it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The bass was set up by the store where I bought it on line. They did a fine job. No fret buzz on the high notes and the strings are close to the neck just the way I like it. The workmanship is superior. Glad to have something made in the USA for a change. The tuners are Gotoh and keep the instrument in tune at all times. No noise coming from the pickups.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass can go on the road as your main bass, not just a back up. If you play loud fast punk, this will be your best friend. It is light, looks cool, and sounds fantastic. The strap buttons are strong made of metal, not cheesy plastic like on the Dano. The finish is strong and will not warp or stain. I have an off white with a copperburst on the edges. Try the teal or solid copper, they also look cool.

Customer Support : 10
I haven't dealt with Jerry Jones because I have not had any problems with this bass. The guy at Indoor Storm was nice on the phone and had the instrument to me in a couple of days. I have no complaints. Indoor Storm quoted me the best price for this model, after I checked out several other outlets.

I have been playing for many years. I have other basses but this one is really unique. It is a great value. If it were stolen I would ring the neck of the thief if he were ever caught, if not I'd buy another Jerry Jones bass. Check their web-site Jerry has a lot of new stuff. I especially love the plain no frills look about the thing. You have to like the coke bottle head stock and the simple symetric shape. It has a personality all it's own. It is not BC Rick gothic or Warwick Vampire heavy metal. It is smart ass punk at its best.

This is a 2005 model. Twenty-four fret neck with a masonite (like?) body, like the old Danos. The controls are volume and 4-way pickup selector (no tone control). All passive. Two single-coil, lipstick tube pickups. The finish is a semi-gloss gold with optional matching headstock. The body style is much like the old 15 fret Shorthorn Dano. Fender-style Gotoh bridge and guitar-like Gotoh tuners. Perfectly shaped neck with a clear, satin finish and a 30" scale length. What could be better?

An excellent sounding instrument. I've got it strung up with flats. Sounds great on neck pickup only when you finger pluck on the neck or with your thumb and mute the strings. Great with a pick when you use the series setting. Very strong. Think NRBQ! You can coax a very convincing upright sound out of this baby. The parallel setting sounds very "Jazz-like". I only use the bridge pickup setting when I'm going for a tic-tac solo sound. Thin, but punchy. I'm playing her through a Sunn Model T head and a 2-15 cab. As far as styles, in one week I play damn near everything imaginable (except for metal and slap-happy stuff). A 50's-60's show band, a roots band (country, blues, bluegrass, folk, rock), a funky blues/jazz band, an older top 40 variety band: I use this bass in all these different musical situations.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Absolutely perfect right out of the box. Not a single flaw. Finish is too cool!

Reliability/Durability : 10
I own about a dozen basses and I can say that the rest are getting pretty jealous. I gig 5-7 night per week and I have no problem with bringing just this one bass on the gig. Built like a lightweight tank!

Here's the good part: I ordered this bass directly from Jerry Jones. He was very patient with me (took me a while to settle on the color). This was a very enjoyable purchasing experience. I would buy from him again anytime (and I probably will).

I've been playing bass for 31 years (27 years professionally). I have to say that I absolutely love this bass! I've tried the original Danos (Silvertone with the "Dolphin" headstock, Dano Shorthorn) and the reissue Danos (Longhorn, DC Bass). Jerry make these very cool designs even cooler! They play so much better than the originals or cheap reissues and you can actually set the intonation with ease. Not only would I replace it if something (God forbid) happened to it, I plan on purchasing a JJ Longhorn Bass 4 just, well... JUST BECAUSE!!! What are you waiting for?
