Bought off craigslist for $50. Pretty good deal. I mainly play guitar, and wanted to fool around on bass, so I bought this. It was a steal. Made in china, 20 frets, 1 vol, 1 tone. P-bass style pickup, The finish is red, but you can see the wood grain through it, its nice. I bought it used and there are some big chips out of the paint, but you cant see it from the front.

I've had it for 3 days, so I can't say, but it's been through 3 previous owners, so it seems reliable.

Don't know when it was made, but it was made in China. Very basic P-Bass design. Mine has a natural finish and it looks very nice. I really like the blonde neck and wide fretboard. Very comfortable to hold.
Sound

The action is very low and easy to play. I bought it used so I think it may have been set up before. It does not sound bad, but it does not sound great either. Someone suggested new pickups, but I rarely hot-rod my axes. They are what they are. Its sound is muddier than my BC Rich Warlock.

Nice fit and finish. Really like the natural finish.Action is very easy to play and it is comfortable to hold. The one thing that I really hate about this bass is the cheap looking nut. It looks like a piece of candle wax.I hope it lasts.

I think it will last awhile. It seems solidly built. However, the hardware seems cheap. Time will tell.

Standard fender style p-bass. Mexican fender style split pickups with volume and tone controls. Beautiful translucent red finish. 3-ply pickguard chrome knobs etc...

original sound was warm. With the proper fx/preamp (i recomend a ZOOM bfx-708) actually put out some good slap/grinding tones. I have since made this bass totally custom (mm style humbucker at bridge, new frets and nut straplocks locking jack and HEAVY chrome bridge) I highly recomend these upgrades for anyone whos buying this bass. Once this is done it will rival just about any bass out there. I would never give up the tone. The original tone was a bit too warm for my tast, but sounded excellent none the less.

Finish is impecable. VERY SOLID BASS. I have beat the livin S*** outta this bass and it is incredibly reliable. I play tons of gigs and have NEVER had a problem. My only complaint was the nut the factory put on is a pieace of junk. I recomend a custom cut brass nut. Action similar to a new fender (any retard that doesnt get a new bass shud be shot so stop bitchin bout the action and go get it set up by a professional) My only problem was the neck has a tendency to warp yet still remains true after truss rod adjustments. Excellent new i recomend it over ANY fender or other bass. Will last forever with a good guitar tech!

Perfect new though i would definatly do the upgrades i recomended earlier (they shud cost no more than 300 and make it a better bass yrthan most) I never have a back-up. its capable of a myriad of tones and plays INCREIBLY fast because of its narrow neck. Yet it feels solid so gig with this bass without fear. I treat my basses like pastorius (dropping, dragging, mths without any fret oil etc) and it will DEFINATLY hold up I have to give it up for johnson, i wish more people knew bout 'em 10 all the way

I own too much gear to count but this is my main bass and i only have one other in case the apocolypse happens and my johnson gets incinerated. I wouldnt trade it in for the world though i was offered $750 for it from a friend of my guitar techs! Whats that a 400 percent jump. Ive been playin for years and this is the best bass ever with the upgrades i sugested and new, well, its the second best! so buy it NOW! definatly a 9+

split p-bass humbucker, one tone, one volume control... what more? strings are way too high for fast and comfortable action, when lowered no chance to slap...
tuners are fine, no probs...
most of things were said before

Sound was almost good but too muddy. The body resonates very nicely, I guess it's pickup that needs change. I sugggest Seymour Duncan split P-bass pickup, but never had money to try it. Squier P-bass is far better.

facotry set up sucks. finish was very very nice. transparent blue/green. very nice to look at. 3ply pickguard, chrome knobs. action is not best. Squier P-bass is far better in that.

knobs needed repairs and output jack too. i always used it at gigs or jams without backup. never had problems during that time. one time tuned and stayed tuned for whole gig/jam. strap buttons are solid. with minor repairs it will last.

Johnson P-Bass 4 string made in 2001 has standard volume and tone control, and split pickup configuration. This was bought as standard and came with no accessories.

A good beginner bass, but on the other hand i have played it at several gigs and have had no problems, seems to work very well with the kind of music we play (country and classic rock) has a rich full sound and a real fast neck

As set from the factory the action was just a little high but nothing a good guitar tech cannot fix, the pickup was about right overall the fit and finish was very good for a production model basic black and white with maple neck

I have been playing this bass for about 2 years and have no complaints, and if someone steals it they better hope I don't catch them! I played several basses while getting started and choose this one from all the others.

everyone complains about the action on the Johnson bass guitars! i found mine to be fairly quick and smooth. The pickups needed little to no adjustments. the bass felt comfortable. not to heavy fairly well balanced. I was happy with it for the 8 months that i owned it

it should handle live playing without any troubles. the hardware might need to be upgraded for gigging. I loved the finish. it seemed to hold up excellent. I would never gig without a back up!
