The bass has it's own specific sound.I play it through a Laney HB65 Hardcore Max aplifier. The amp is good so I can play it very loud.It is great for stage.

The factory set up is OK. I have got the bass almost new with no major issues.

I have changed the original strings to medium Fender and all four pots. The sound increased a lot. It's much more better. The bass does not need any neck adjustments. It is a one wood instrument and very solid.

To contact the manufacturer is difficult as since 1989 the company Jolana does not exist any more, however it is not a problem to contact a repair company here in CZ for repair, which I never needed.

I own the bass for about six years. This is a great beginner instrument for an outstanding price. You can buy it for about 150,- Euro. The instrument needs some care, but this will be rewarded to you as an excellent beginner bass.It is part of history and I would never sell it to anybody as this was the first one I have ever played and started to learn how to play bass on it.

made in Czehoslovakia between 1985-90.
21 frets 4-stringed rickenbacker's copy.
3 pickups in 2 groups, wich have separate volume and tone controllers.Selector to use front group(short picups covering 2 and 2 strings),back picup(covering 4 strings) or bowth together.
passive electronics.
Body and neck made of one solid pice of somekind of wood(thats all I can say)covered with thick varnish (mine is brown).
Bridge has adjustable(forth-back,up-down)holders.
Neck is quite thin, with stiff feeling)
All this was in original wooden case(wegihts as much as the guitar itself at least)wich,by the time it came in to my hands, was in poor shape.

It has special firm(even stiff) sound, wich you eighter like,or dont.Tone controllers dont do much about it.only thing that sofar has any effect at all is picups selector. So its all up to the amp.I've used it with Peavey 112 and Behringer 1200 bx.Last one goes better with it(and is more of an amplifier aswell)
Doesn't suit for poping that well, because the space between body and strings is about 5mm.
Jolana D-bass is more of a stage instrument, has a better features for live then recording.

I have no idea how it was in its early years(this instrument has bin with me for few years, before of doing nothing in empty clubhouse in the middle of nowhere)but right now it needs some cleaning inside.
Pluggin is in a poor-poor shape as well.
Body and neck are in good shape.

after I get thouse controllers cleaned and pluggin exchanged,I fear of nothing!Dont think this instrument will breake, unless U jump on it for more then 10 minutes.
I am useing it on gigs as it is right now(flaws I pointed before),without an backup guitar.

there is no customer support!you do what you have to do yourself.
in this case dont even think about warranty, becasue the company stoped existing more then decade ago.
jolana guitars are kind of like old cars:most of them is in really bad shape and basicly useless, but some are items of collecting and do their job as well.

No Opinion
this instrument is a pice of history. It looks and sounds like something from the beginning of bassguitars age.
I wouldn't like to loose it,its part of my character.
