I'm almost sure that my Jolana bass was made in Czechoslovakia. I do not know when was it manufactured, but it must be quite old...It has 20 frets, four strings (...I'm so lucky!) Two volume pots were built in, each pickup has one. They have plastic buttons with little numbers between 1 and 10 - so "visible"...but it doesn't matter, because the potmeters are awful. strange. characteristic... It is not possible to achieve a desired volume-change while playing, because they are TOO sensitive, then, after a bit of turn, have no function. And there is a third pot - it must be the tone - but doesn't work.
Pickups are old-looking, black, very massive. The neck-pick is Z-shaped. The pickupswitch is a good one, little, works perfectly. Absolutely different look than Diamond's. It has three positions (first pickup, both, second pickup). As I have no English dictionary here at the moment, it's quite hard to me to tell you about materials etc. And I'm also not sure about it...It looks like a precision, but hard to compare. Acessories: unknown, as I bought it as a used bass. Was equipped with a strap, but may be different brand. The neck is longer than Diamond's.

Sound : 3
I think its sound is better than expected. Almost every bassist says the Jolana-sound is shit...I don't think so. My style is somwhere around rock, jazz and blues. Some interests: REM, Oasis, Pink Floyd, RedHC, Muse etcetcetc. I must tell you that I'm using a home-made amlifier (LP-player-amp), so as you know, the sound strongly depends on the amp. I have no effects. Thats true, not so rich...slap sounds are absolutely missing! Warm, using bridgepick: rather acoustic sound. Danger: not for studio! I am sad of the poor "tunability". The E string is a bit strange...

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
As I bought it as a used, I have no idea...

Reliability/Durability : 9
This bass will survive everything! The hardware is very massive, you can depend on it. guitar-smashing-action-resistance for free!
I hope I will have another bass, then I will use this as a backup..
It survived some thousand kilometers of travelling, a travelling bag on its head, and a heavy brother sitting calmly on its neck...
maybe a self-destruction-button is needed!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't know wether the company exists or not...
If it needed some corrections, I did it myself - or my brother helped me with the electronics. Some days ago I changed the curve of its neck using "that screw at the top". It was because the strings were too far from the neck, especially at 12.fret and above. It changed a lot! Don't miss this chance if you have the same problem.

Overall Rating : 3
I like it because it has its own style. It was cheap, I didn't compare it to other basses. If it were stolen I would buy a better one.
I wish it was lefthanded, because there are some uncomforts...

If you are really interested in it feel free to contact me for a photo or details.
