This bass was made on 7/04/00. It was made in the good ol' US, and its a 4 string. It has 21 frets. It has a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard, and the body is just one piece of swamp ash. It has 2 bartolini pickups, active electronics, top loading bridge, decent size neck, and it came with its mtd case. I bought this used for 1900.

Sound : 10
I play all kinds of wacky stuff. I play rock, jazz, blues, classical, but most of the time I play funk. I haven't noticed any unwanted noise coming out of it at all. It is well suited for the styles that I listed above, at least it works for me. What kind of sounds can the bass make? That seems like a dumb question to me. Whatever sound you want, this bass has got it. I haven't enjoyed the pleasures of being in the studio yet, but I have recorded some stuff on a freinds computer. It sounds pretty good. It sounds just fine when I play it live. I play through a Trace elliot GP7-SM 1 by 15 combo with an extension cab, and I think it sounds great. It also sounds pretty good through my SWR workingmans 10. Effects wise: like I said, i like funk, so i play with synth pedals. This bass is a funk machine. I would have got a musicman, but i also wanted something that was suited for different styles. I also have a bass balls pedal. Also sounds good(anyone who has seen hoobustank live lately and heard earthsick would probably agree). I dont have any dislike yet, but i have only had it for about 3 weeks. If i find something out, I'll let you know.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I dont think this bass has any flaws. I bought it used, and the action/setup was awesome. I get free lifetime setup, so Im not too worried about it. The tuners work quite well, as the bass likes to stay in tune(maybe it has something to do with the buzz feiten tuning system?). The pickups are bartolini, so you know they sound good. You might want to polish the wood every so often, just to preserve it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass will most definitely stand up to live playing. The hardware will last. I might wear down the wood over time, but, what can you do? The strap buttons are solid, and I can definitely depend on it. My other bass is a Yamaha BB1200, also an awesome bass, but I dont think I'll ever have to pull it out while I'm playing with my Tobias. It is kind of foolish to play any gig without a backup, cause you never know what might happen. So, yeah.

Customer Support : 10
Michael Tobias is awesome. I always get responses from him within 24 hours. Even late at night on the weekends he responded quickly. I asked him questions about modifying my bass(specifically an all wenge neck), and he gave me a price estimate, and directions on what to do. Nice guy. As far as a warranty goes, I'm not quite sure on that, although I have a feeling that if there was something wrong that needed fixing, it wouldn't be a problem.

Overall Rating : 10
Ive been playing for 5 and a half years. My guitarist friend kept telling me to buy a better bass because I deserved it. After playing a mexican Fender 5 string jazz bass for a long time, I decided that he was right. If this bass was stolen, I would break into tears and throw fits. This is the most money I have ever spent on a bass so far, and I am glad I made this purchase(I was also looking at a warwick streamer stage 2 5 string, but I think the low B isn't that great. If I could've found a used MTD 535 at a good price, it would have made my year). If you want an awesome bass, buy an MTD. Get a US one though. C'mon, you know you want to.
