The sound if this instrument is of a good standard for a bass of ??200. The humbucker has a very lively sound to it but i just dont think it can replicate the music man sound though. Which some could consider a good thing as it has very much its own sound but not for me, i bought the instrument for a budget backup bass and dont get me wrong it does its job very well, but the thing is just so heavy!! it weighs a ton and im used to playing couple hour sets and my shoulder was in pain about two thirds of the way through the set and id usually wake up with a brused shoulder the next morning.I play in a pop punk band with very lively music, thats where this bass really starts to shine through the crowds. this thing goes from bright to brighter with a set of new rotos on it, it really gives you that insomniac(Greenday) tone which every pop punk bassist looks for!another good point of this bass is that it never feeds back, EVER!
The bass has quite a veriety of sounds but as stated previosly in the review it only really works with bright and punchy tones. one last comment on this bass, dont dont dont use it in the studio! it sounds horrific, all muffeled and farty, whatever settings you use! the bright character of the bass is mearly sucked out of it. If you have ever listened to MXPX's version of take on me, the bass sounds just like the bass in the intro to that song.

The bass was all set up perfectly by the shop i brought it from. The only flaw i had with this bass was that the nut on the G string snapped off meaning that whenever i played that string it mearly fell of the finger board........very dissapointing, soon replaced the plastic nut with a ??12 brass one and the problem was solved, plus it now has alot better sustain that before. the pickups can be ajusted but as i said before that had been done for me. other than the nut problem the bass had no flaws when i bought it besides a small 4/5mm chipp in the body.

This bass is a rock, very reliable besides the pots, would reccomend tightening them up asap. The only two things that i have to mention are that the unpolished maple fingerbourd gets dirty very quickley and must be cleaned regularly, i personaly dont clean it though as i like the whole worn in fingerboard look! The second annoyance is that the neck needs reajusting almosts every two weeks but its not hard as it can all be done externally with a hex key.

This bass is a good bass, the sound suits my style but the feel and weight do not and as i play live alot this bass had to be sold but it was an exeptionally good bass for the money. I would recomend it but would think that the MM2 would better suite most peope both sound, looks, feel and weight wise and for those reasons you should probably check the four string version!
I use Ashdown amps and mostly a fender mex precision bass.
