I bought my Overwater Progress 3 Elite 6-String Fretless in July 2002 directly from Chris May and the team using telephone and internet.
It was shipped from UK to Sweden in about one week and was complete and in mint condition! The features of this bass are amazing:
Fretless 6 string with paduak lines (lined fretless), 24 marked frets but with the "Signature Overwater 26 fret cutout".
The body wings are made of birds-eye maple front and back with a walnut core and purpleheart veneer stringers.
The neck is a neckthrough, five piece lamination consisting of 3 parts straight grained maple and 2 parts purpleheart.
The fingerboard is of purest black ebony.
I ordered a special custom-made scorpio inlay of Mother of Pearl at the 12th fret as a special option, it's one hell of an inlay!
The bass has five controls: Volume, pickup-pan, bass, mid, treble and two jacks, one standard 1/4 and one cool XLR output for direct-connection with studio mixers. I'm not sure about the finish but I think it's some form of highgloss/naturalgloss.
The tuners are high-quality japanese Gotoh, bridge is Overwater.
All hardware including the bridge is black. The pickups are Overwater's own exclusive design. I got it with a great, sturdy case included.

The sound is incredible and all I can and should say is that you simply have to try it out for yourself! The bass really sells itself so go ahead and try one and you'll be bound to have it! The pickups doesn't hum at all! I've tried "overdriven use" of treble and it still is dead silent! NO HISS OR HUM! The pickup configuration and selected frequenzies are very well made!
I've tried it using both tube and transistor amps and the bass plays equally well whatever amplifiers I've tested, although all tube heads makes the best sound overall.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The action and set up of this bass was so well even though it was shipped to me. The action was perfect right from the start and still is, everything is perfectly adjusted and my guess is that it'd fit just about everyone right on. Nothing was damaged during the construction or the shipping, and the finish is so good it has to be touched just to understand how great it is! Still to this day, I sometimes look here and there to see if I can find any scratches, but it still looks and feels like it's in mintcondition or well, "never-been-used" conditon although I handle it quite roughly and play music for about 3-4 hours every other day.

Everything is really superior compared to my old equipment which used to be Warwick among others, so nowadays I can't use any "lesser" basses! This bass hasn't failed me and I'm dead sure it never will.
The first to drop would probably be me!

I've been playing for about 7 years now and I've used and tried various basses from other standard and those a little bit more exclusive - I've decided that Overwater basses are almost unmatched comparing quality, service, price etc. As mentioned I've owned quite expensive Ibanez and Warwick among others and none of them are even near the value of an Overwater bass. I'm really excited about this instrument and about the Overwater team since I found my dream bass surfing the web (and MANY manufacturers) and buying it through phone/mail. When I actually by misshapen found the Overwater bass site I cheked it out and looked at the reviews and then I finally mailed Chris. After seeing this bass in one of the reviews I just had to have it! The bass has blown me away and I'm bound to buy more from Overwater in the future. Should this bass be stolen or lost I'd buy two new basses at once, I simply love everything about it, that's it.
Curious how it looks? Check out http://www.overwaterbasses.com >> custom basses >> #3 - it's the one with the scorpio inlay!
The value actually is fantastic considering the price VS value for money.

The body has the custom option of a fully overlaid top of book matched highly figured Claro Walnut with a Burl Walnut head veneer. The body wings are made of Black Walnut The whole body is covered with a satin cellulose lacquer. The bass is a through neck design which makes the top end of the finger board easy to use, no heel in the way. The neck is a 5 piece laminate 3 1/4 sawn pieces of Rock Maple and 2 of Purple heart, ebony board with maple markers mother of pearl dots front and side it is 26 fret board with a 35 inch scale. The neck is shallow and wide very easy to play. The machine heads are gold Gotoh's which are very smooth and stable. Pickups are Overwater's own design OW6 dual coil hum-cancelling with coils wired in parallel. # band EQ centered at 70hz mid 300hz high 777hz with 10 +/-. the bridge again made by overwater is brass with a 18mm string spacing and well up to the job. I am using it with an Euphonic Audio iAmp 350 no effects. The bass is pretty quiet so no complaints there. Due to the woods chosen the bass has a fairly dark sound . The bottom end is deep and full the 35 inch scale helping to keep the low B well defined and as articulate as I have heard on any bass. The top end again is well balanced being capable of smooth and mellow or cut you in two the choice is yours Mind you a good amp is needed to do justice to the bottom end. I think the bass has a almost Hi-Fi quality to it very clean and defined so might not be to everyone's taste. For me it has taken more work to get the sound I am after not in the EQ or amp but in the way I play myself I have had to improve my technique as the combination of this bass and the EA does show up my short comingswhich is no bad thing. I could do with just a touch more fretless growl from it but other than that I am happy with my bass.

When I got the bass the strings on it were to light my mistake not their's. The strings were changed and the whole bass set up while I was there. Compared to my last bass this one is set up perfectly it plays like a dream. I have looked over the whole bass and can find no fault with the finish or set up.

I have no doubts about the bass being able to with stand live playing the finish seems tough enough but at this point it has not been used live. The bass comes with strap locks so dropping it should not be an option. I should point out that it is quite heavy so standing could become tiring. As yet it has not needed to be ajusted but I have not had the bass very long but I anticipate no problems. I would have no problems about using it without a back up which is just as well as I can't afford to buy another one.

No Opinion
I have been playing for 15 years most of which has been on my 4 string Chris Eccleshall which has Wal pickups and electrics. The overwater is simply in a different class,in fairness to my other bass the overwater did cost more. If it was stolen I would buy another Overwater I might try a different combination of woods but that is all. You are dealing directly with the people who make the bass so virtually anything you want can be accomodated right up to 7 strings. I have seen some 6 strings bass's that look out of proportion with the wide neck but this bass looks just right. The only wish is for more fretless type growl but that may come as I get better as a player and more familiar with the bass.
