It acn get any sound you want with the active pick-ups.
The 2 pick-ups are soapbar size and sound perfect! The neck is very thin but still comforable. 1 master volume 2 seperate pick-up volumes 1 master tone. I'm almost positive it's an alder body and I know for a fact that is has a 4-bolt maple neck with a freted rosewood fingerboard. It has fender sized frets. This is the fourstring model.
It was made in the U.S.A. in the 90's, not sure of the exact date. It has a glossy black finish, accented buy indestrucable gold hardwear.

Sound : 10
This thing makes no unwanted noise and sounds perfect for rock. I use a 30 watt Crate amp and I can get any thing from a thick Jack Bruce sound with my fingers to a punchy Duff McCeagan sound with a pick.
It is not a quite bass at all, it's perfect for on stage.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Bought it used from a profesional bass tech. It seems like all works great!

Reliability/Durability : 10
I could leave in the arctic for years or play baseball with it or sit on it and it wouldn't even go out of tune.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
Everything fits, sounds, lasts, looks, smells(just kidding), and plays perfectly

Features : 9
The features are the same as most of the other reviews: black alder body w/ mother of pearl pick gaurd, etc.

Sound : 10
This bass has a lot of sounds you can play with. For me, if I see the pickup selector to somewhere between (usually where it "snaps" into place) I can get a nice funky sound that I like for slapping. That same setting also sounds great for general fretless licks (I.e. Weather Report songs)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Due to the thin neck, and to the fact that it has no frets, my left hand doesn't suffer much strain from heavy playing. No wonder I like playing it more than my Samick 5-string. I saw no flaws aesthetically or functionally when I bought it (used).

Reliability/Durability : 9
Overall it is very solid. The only problem I have is with the nut, which is no longer attached to the neck. (minor problem). Possibly something I did.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never needed customer support for this bass.

Overall Rating : 10
Overall, I love this bass. I would recomend buying this bass to any of my friends. I just wish it didn't have that pick guard.

IT SAYS MADE IN THE USA ON MY AXCELERATOR 4 STRING FRETLESS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO RAVE ABOUT FIRST,THE SLICK NECK OR THE AVAILABLE SOUNDS THAT ARE EASILY DIALED IN WITH THE ONBOARD ELECTRONICS,RE 18v ACTIVES.I OWN A DR5C HEARTFIELD AND TAKE MY PEAVEY BASS AS A BACKUP,BUT I FIND MYSELF PLAYING IT MORE AND MORE. ITS SO DAMED CONFORTABLE TO PLAY.

Sound : 10
THIS BASE IS VERY QUIET AND I USE IT FOR RECORDING STAIGHT THRU A DIRECT BOX. I'M NOT UP SO MUCH ON WHO'S SOUND SOUNDS LIKE WHAT, I OMLY KNOW I CAN GET ANY SOUND I WANT TO GET. A FRETLESS CAN'T BE COMPARED TO A FRETTED BASS AS FAR AS COMPARING SOUNDS ,THEY HAVE A SOUND ALL THEIR OWN.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I BOUGHT THIS BASS USED AND NEVER HAD TO ADJUST ANYTHING. I DID NOTICE THAT IT HAS A NECK TILT ADJUSTMENT.

Reliability/Durability : 8
MY BASS IS BLACK WITH A WHITE SORT OF MOTHER OF PEARL PICKGUARD(A LITTLE CHEESY) HOLDS UP VERY WELL ON STAGE. GOOD SOLID BASS.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE IT. I PLAYED SOME VERY EXSPENSIVE FRETTLESS BASS'S BUT KEPT COMEING BACK TO THIS ONE IT JUST FELT SO GOOD AND HAD AL THE SOUNDS I COULD EVER NEED

This is the 3 blade style single coil size humbucking pickup model. I have two of them. One is see through red the other is tobacco sunburst. Features include: Swap ash body, 5 way selector switch, pearloid pickguard on the red one and tortoise shell on the sunburst, 22 fret neck med jumbo frets, tilt back headstock with Sperzel locking tuners, and Power-bend trem with graphite string saver saddles. Made in the USA.

Sound : 10
I play blues rock and this guitar is great for it. The pickups are noise free and it gives a real fat sound. I have nothing bad to say. It is fatter than a strat but still has a nice vintage flavor.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought both guitars used. I had to set them up for .10's as they came from the factory with .09's on them. Frets were nicely dressed. This Peavey is a great product.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have used both guitars live several times. I have two so if I need to change during a live performance I will have a duplicate backup. I have yet to break a sting. The graphite saddles are a cool feature. The guitar is solidly built and should last a lifetime of playing

Customer Support : 10
One of the guitars I bought had the trem bar missing. I called Peavey direct and the service rep. knew exactly what model I had and sent the bar out to me for a meesely 5.00 shipping included. You rock Peavey!!!

Overall Rating : 10
I am sold on these guitars. I rated them high because they deserve to be rated this way. If they were stolen I would definitely find another to buy. Peavey discountinued these in 1998 but I see them around once in a while. The pawn shops give these away because they are a Peavey brand. Let the fools sell 'em cheap. All the better for you and I to pick up a great USA made guitar at a cheap overseas junk price.

This is a gold body Peavey Axcelerator w/ 2 humbucking PU's, crushed
ice style pickguard, rosewood fingerboard over maple, 21 frets, 4 string bass. I believe the body is alder. It has active elecs and 3 knobs: 2 in 1 knob for equing the pickups, a knob for blending the
2 humbuckers, a master volume control. The harmonic possibilities
this allows are pretty vast. If I had one complaint, I would like
a mid control. However, I have a seven band eq on my amp that offers
a lot of possibilities. Bridge, I believe is a Schaller-very good.
The neck is extremely thin, kinda like playing an Ibanez elec. Smooth
unvarnished wood on the back. Tuners are Peavey diecast.

Sound : 9
Like I said, the tonal possibilities are quite good. I primarily
play a lot of Rush and by fiddling w/ the eq knobs and pickup
blend I can get a pretty faithful reproduction of Geddy's sound
throughout the years w/o spending thousands of dollars. I currently
am running it through a Peavey TKO 80 amp w/ a Boss C3 chorus pedal.
Pickups are very quiet. Haven't used it live so I can't comment on
that aspect. The overall sound has a harder edge for rock. Pickups
have quite a lot of output. If your looking for a thinner sound, get
a Peavey Foundation or Jazz w/ single coil pu's.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this guitar was excellent from the get-go. Really low,
no buzz. I play guitar and have several Stratocasters, an Epi Les Paul, Peavey Foundation, had Fender P, Steinberger. All of those
guitars needed some set-up. The Axcelerator needed none. The neck
is really fast and smooth. I have to give the neck a 10 because
it plays so damn well. Literally flawless.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I haven't used it live, but I imagine it should be fine.
Hardware seems solid. The bass is well constructed.

Customer Support : 10
Peavey has an interactive forum and the tech guy there answers all
my emails. You can also download manuals for just about any guitar
they've ever made. Haven't had to get this guitar repaired.

Overall Rating : 9
Some guy said his 5 string Axcelerator wasn't as good as his Peavey
Foundation. I can't comment on the 5 string but I own a 4 string
Foundation and, while not a bad bass, the Axcelerator is definitely
superior. The Axcelerator is well balanced and not headstock heavy
like my foundation. Something I find fairly annoying. The neck is
definitely thinner and faster, pickups are louder and allow more
range. It blew doors off my Fender P, which I eventually got rid of.
FYI-this bass is no longer made but can be found if you look hard enough. It listed for just about $900. Bass Player magazine voted it best bass for under $900 when it was first made. Yeah, I'd try and scrounge up another one if it got destroyed in a fire.
