Awesome bass guitar. One of the real jewels of modern bass guitars. All the sound you could ever need. Hard to put it down, it plays so well. If you can find one of the Dyna-basses made in the 80's, buy it.

This is a solid black 1987 Peavey Dyna Bass 5 String. Made in USA with a beautiful Rosewood board and 21 frets. Has a Master Volume control, pickup blend control and 3 band EQ with a Active/Passive switch. 2 Peavey Super Ferrite Pickups and Kahler bridge with heavy duty Schaller type tuning keys. Body is Alder and neck is Maple. Very comfortable neck with great action.

Sound : 10
Bass is very versatile with a great range of tones. I use it for a cover band and it can make any song sound great from classic rock to 80's synth pop. Very lightweight which makes it comfortable to play all night. The body contours are nice as well. I use a rack system with an SWR 400s head, DBX 160XT compressor, Korg rack tuner and a Furman strip to power everything. The sound goes through Dr. Bass cabinets. The electronics are very quiet and I love the active/passive switch. The bass has a bright tone but you can dial in any sound with the 3 band eq. I prefer running both pickups full on but use the back pickup for certain songs. I've not used it in the studio but would imagine it would perform just as well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought the bass used so it needed a setup. I did this myself with new strings, battery and a truss rod adjustment. Played it at a gig the following day. The bridge needed a slight intonation adjustment and the Kahler bridge is very easy to adjust. The pickup height was perfect and I did not have to adjust them. The bass has only a few small dings but the rest looks great. I love the all black look with black hardware.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The bass travels well and always keeps in tune. The hardware is top notch and the finish is solid. The strap buttons are great from the factory and this is a very underrated bass that I would have loved to have purchased when they came out but they were very expensive at the time! I use it without a backup due to the active/passive switch. No worries about dead batteries but I replace it every 6 months anyway.

Customer Support : 10
Peavey has the best customer support bar none. They always send me parts (battery cover, truss rod cover) for free and they are very helpful on the phone or email. You can always email them with your bass serial number to find out the year it was made.

Overall Rating : 10
If the bass were lost or stolen I'd buy another. I love the Dyna Bass series and am always looking for others to buy. They came in a wide variety of colors. Black is my favorite though! If you find one in good shape buy it.

The Dyna-Bass I'm talking about is a KILLER Bass Amp Head. I had one I used on the road and I got more inquiries about that rig then anything I used before or since. I used a Yamaha cab with 4 10's in it and it really kicked. Simple pods vol., Low, Mids, Highs. and two channels. Simplicity is the key HEAR.

Clean, clear, crisp rolling thunder

I remember very little about this amp top, except it was a POWERHOUSE !!
250 watts. I played it through a 15" vented cab (that had "Cat Mother" stenciled on the back.. it was a Guild cab as I recall, I had 2) stacked on top of a folded horn 15" that was custom made. More power then I ever needed. Vol, Treb, Mid, and bass. two speaker outs. Thunder Road !!
The face plate was slanted with two chanels they were the same as I recall.

Sound : 10
It was just LOUD clean and Loud Great clean tone.

The amp NEVER had a problem.. it survived the road better then I did.....

I used this amp until I switched to an Acoustic 450... as loud but nowhere near as reliable....

Bought this budget 4 string passive bass new around mid 2003. The amber quilt top finish is excellent for a guitar of this low price. Seperate tone and volume for the two hum bucking pickups is quite a nice touch too. The bolt on neck, it has to be said, is slim and fast. String-thru body feature is also a bonus at this low price.
The tuners are of reasonable quality although I have had to tighten a couple up over time.

Sound : 7
Personally i would describe the sound of this bass as somewhat dry although EQ will easily sort this out. Run it through an Ashown MAG300 with a fair amount of bottom end boost to sort that out. Not fantastic sustain either but having a kind of bite and punch unusual in a bass at this low price. No problem with hum or buzz whatsoever, quiet as a mouse and the hum bucking pickups provide a good output to drive virtually anything. A good all rounder that won't dissapoint.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
In time I have adjusted the truss rod on this guitar and raised the action slightly also. Intonation from new was not that well set up either, but hey what do you expect at this price. Spending an hour setting up is not a problem and adds to the enjoyment. General finish was good with some slight burrs on the edge of some frets that were easily taken care of. Never any need to adjust the solidly mounted pickups and all other electrical hardware has performed faultlessly over time.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have hammered this bass on many occasions and fretware is becoming evident but has always performed faultlessly. I have not been using it as frequently in recent times but it has to be said that when I pick it up and play I think . . "This is a good bass" . . Good neck, fast, very playable. It has taken the test of time very well and has been completely reliable. Paintwork and hardware has proved to be stable since initial adjustments from new. Stays in tune OK too and I always carry this guitar as a backup, no question.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed to go down this route so far!

Overall Rating : 9
Can't really think of anything to complain about this bass at the price. Excellent playability and a 'solid' tone along with a good appearance and reliability. If it were lost or stolen i would consider replacing like for like simply because of it's playability and reliability.

Am I the only person who has a Dyna Bass with the Kahler tremelo? I got it for my 15th birthday in 1989 and since there was no internet mail order stores and I didn't know any better, it was expensive. Like close to a grand... luckily it was a gift. It is pearl white with the bolt on neck. Has the active setup with the screw hole to adjust. Came with an allen wrench for the neck. All stock peavey electronics. Came with the flight case and manual for fine tuning the tremolo. 10 is just because I never met another bass player with a whammy bar!

Sound : 9
I started playing thrash metal but by the time i had gotten this bass, the whole guitar solo (shrapnel records) phase was happening. So it was lots of effects and lots of bass solos. Arpeggios and duals with 2 other guitar players. Fit the bill perfectly. Action was nice played through a Carvin Pro Bass 400 watt biamped rig with 2x12 & 18 botom cab. I had a collection of Boss stomp boxes and the pedalboard. Had all the "bass effects" and the cool guitar ones as well. The Active electronics were noisy but with 8 boxes and crazy riffs along to double bass and guitar gallops, it didn't matter. When the battery died I took it out.... 15 years ago. Been playing passive ever since. I dropped it down 2 flights of stairs and chipped the finish but it's ok. Only bass I've ever thought of replacing this was an Ibanez sound gear with the extra frets for my lead but I would have to give up the tremolo. I don't play out since I sold my Carvin but I record on my PC constantly through a Zoom pedal with all the old psychadelic weird sounds from my early days...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action was fast and clean. Pickups were mounted in the body... it's a bass not a gamalon ensemble. Nothing was wrog with it when i got it.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've thrown it, dropped it, used it as a shield it's the volvo of basses. I seriously need to repair it someday but I would have to take off all those cool stickers over all the dings... I did adjust the truss rod in the 1990's and the strings seem to need replacing every 4-5 years.. annoying. The finish could have been stronger but stage diving probably voids the warranty.

Customer Support : No Opinion
For what?

Overall Rating : 10
Only been playing for 20 years and this was my second bass. Replaced my bullet bass and gorilla amp with it and never had the incentive to replace it. I was supposed to be a guitar player but my mom brought this home. I bought the other gear myself (never did tell her where i got the money..) I would replace it if I could find one but if I ever buy another bass it will be the soundgear by ibanez with the extended fret board. It's like playing a guitar, the action rules. You gotta love the tremolo and without the battery and a lot of effects on you can do cool stutter effects by flipping the active toggle back and forth. the stickers and make shift repairs to the finish were cool 8 years ago but now they look ghetto... I wish I could afford to refinish it and make it look like it did when I first saw it.

1985 Black finish with rosewood fingerboard...I have played this Bass since I purchased it new in 1986...I have had every Bass known to man in my tenor of playing and I for the last 10 years straight now have only used this Bass...Good player and have not had to do any repairs to this instrument and I have had so many compliments on the overall sound of this...I can't say enough about how good this Bass is for overall...

Sound : 10
In the 19 years that I have had this bass I have had no problems with finding a sound that would suit what ever Genre' I may be playing in...No noise in the pots and this Bass has thousands of gigs on it...I keep the pots sprayed about once a year since i have had it and all switches and pots are original

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I had to adjust the setup from the Factory...strings were to high for my taste...I have not changed this setting since 1986 and it plays just great...Finish is very good...Black and very glossy still...hardware is still very clean and no signs of oxidation

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have played this bass as i say since 1986 and it still looks and plays great...I always wear a players apron to protect the finish from my belt or buttons...There is some paint wear on the back of the neck but that is to be expected for a bass that has several thousand gigs on it...

Customer Support : 9
I have never had to send in for anything on this...but i have delt with peavey in the past for other things and they were very helpful and very pleasent to deal with

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing music for 38 years...I use a Hartke 4 x 10 with a second 15 inch cabinet under...I have a Gallien Kreuger 800RB bass head and have been using this combination for years...Not a sound I can't get with this active bass and solid amplifier...I have two of both of these setups

5 string
2 stock passive pick ups
made in 2000/2001, don't know where
nice neck, not too bog not too small, ad great to play all over the neck

when i first saw this bass what caught my eye was the really cool flame maple top in an orangy red, very nice. i didn't know too much about bass back then, only been playin about 2 months, but looking back, i couldnt have spent my money on a better bass,my first 5 string, and the only one i truly want to keep.

i've played others since buying it, and i have to say, they aren't built the same, mine has a nice feel, its heavier, and you can tell that by the sound as well, mine has a nice warm tone, which gets warmer as u knock the tone off, but with it on, you have yourself a punchy, bassey sound...pefect!

Sound : 8
the sound coudn't be better for the money, i play jazz, punk, loads of funk, metal, anything really, and when u know the bass u can reall y get any tone u want from it, i've had it 2 1/2years and it still throughs out some nice surprises, as i'm getting better, i apriciate how playable it is, and how easy it is to walk it, and to create your sound, and replicate others.

it just generally sounds nice...my teacher, a pro bassist studying jazz at uni at the moment says i have myself a real nice bass, and i agree with him, it handles the deep low B string and doesn't buzz like most budget 5strings!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
couldn't have asked for it any other may, hasn't ever needed settin up differently to couter act any problems, it just hasn't got any! you have to clean the pots out every now and then, buts thats no big deal.

i've noticed that in the finish there are one or two tiny little marks, but i am surprised that i've noticed them they're that small, and it doesn't affect how it sounds!

Reliability/Durability : 8
its been gigged, practiced on for hours and hours with out end at times, bashed around in a gig bag, fallen over, dropped...and still sounds like it always did, if not better!

i can see this bass lasting for years to come with out giving me any hassle, and i don't need a backup, i just doesn't brake, and unless i dropped it off a 10 story buildin i cnt see that it will!

Customer Support : 7
never needed any...however my friend has one, and the nect came away from the body after he was fooling around, he sent it back and its fine, so peavey look after you!

Overall Rating : 10
if you're looking to get yourself a solid, versitile bass, be it 4 5 or 6 string and you can't afford too much...get this one, if you can, get an older one, the newer ones aren't as good, but don't be put off by that, they still sound great, just a bit more punch!

thats about it really, they're just great basses, well...mine is!

Made in 2001 in vietnam., 4 string 2 passive pickups Bought new.
NEEDED BIG SET UP.
Truss rod needed twisting - low strings buzzing and killing notes.
Bridge too low.
That said, once set up properly, really good solid bass. No flaws, nice sunburst colour - good finish. Nice thin neck.

Sound : 8
Sounds great - from mega boom to twang and most places in the middle

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
As I said before factory set up was REALLY BAD.
If you get one of these from new, make sure the shop sets it up for you, the notes were dead on the first fret E and A strings, also the 7th fret for some wierd reason.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Had this for 3 years, good as new,
Reliable, been gigging, no probs. I changed the huge strap buttons for straplocks, it slipped off a couple of times.
Dont need a backup

12 month warranty - never used iy so cant comment

I usually stay far away from Peavey basses and amps, but this used bass proved that there are instruments out there that can suprise you if you try them out. I bought my grey Dyna-Bass 5 string used, and i am very suprised by its sound. I dont know real Specifics about it but its 21 fret, active, black hardware and the neck is Rosewood. The pickups are Peavey Super Ferrite, and the controls are very versatile. Overall the construction is pretty good and it feels pretty comfortable to play. It also has a shaller bridge on it and it came with a light hardshell case that says "PEAVEY" on it, proclaming to the world that, yes..I DO own a Peavey bass...can we play some music now and forget about it?

Sound : 9
I play in a few bands that are quite funk oriented and my main bass is a fender jazz bass outfitted with EMG's. I love the groove and hate basses that are a struggle to play. this bass is a welcome addition to the funk house. I have no problems dialing in a sound similar to the jazz bass, and by boosting the bass control i can get a fat boom. this bass goes from fat to bright easly and i appreciate the B strings focused burp. I should mention that i have stuffed a big piece of foam in front of the bridge for real dark tone and to control the B strings ring.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Used bass=Poor setup. It played far better after I set it up with lower action and adjusted the string spacing. A little bit of noise in the volume pots but that is expected on a used bass. Finish is grey with some sparkle to it with black hardware not my style but its ok.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The guy who owned it before me used it alot and had it kicking around the studio for a while before selling it. I presume that it was beated up a bit and the bass still has many miles on it. (Im told it is and early Dyna-Bass with the active/passive gain control, so its been around a while.)

Customer Support : No Opinion
no need to...the bass is doing juuuuust fine.

Overall Rating : 9
overall this is a great bass, it suprised me with its playability and sound. good construction and durability, GOOD STUFF. Real music is not about image, its about emotion and expression. If an instrument feels right and helps you express yourself, wear it with pride. YES...I own a Peavey Dyna-Bass...it sounds good and plays great...now stop laughing and play the friggen music.

Made in the mid-eighties. I believe it has 22 frets, 4-strings. Passive/Active controls with selector. 3-band active eq volume and rotary pickup selector. Two "super ferrite" pickups which are the coolest looking bass pickups I've seen (looks like solid magnets). Bolt-on neck, but what a neck! It's got to be the most comfortable bass neck I've ever played on. Grey finish (with a bit of a sparkle). All black hardware. Hard Plastic Case with Peavey logo embossed, red crushed velvet on the inside (very nice).

Sound : 10
It's the perfect bass for many different styles of music. I've played with both the active engaged and straight passive and it sounds great both ways. The only real complaint I could give about the sound is that it's like night and day between passive and active. I would like to have had the active side compliment the already great passive side better. This bass is great for popping and slapping with it's narrow fretboard and string spacing and naturally rounded neck. The Dyna-Bass really soars when in the hands of a competent funk bassist. (I wish that were me!)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Nothing has been changed on this bass. It's the same as it was coming off the factory line. I couldn't imagine changing anything on the bass (outside of the electronics) because it all complements one another so well. Another nice thing about this bass is that it doesnt feel like it's going to fall apart when you hold it. It's a bit on the heavy side, but that's barely noticable. Action adjustability is very nice as well.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It already has withstood 6 years of live playing, I'm sure it will last many, many more. The hardware is solid, not like that cheapo chrome plated and plastic knobbed crap they with guitars. The finish is probably a milimeter thick so I dont think it's going anywhere anytime soon. Strap buttons are original and still holding strong. This is one instrument that I can always trust to perform where all others fail. I've never adjusted the truss rod (never needed it!). Like I said, SOLID! I would never even bother myself with another bass as a backup to this bass. It would never get used.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never dealt with Peavey before. I imagine they would be okay, can't really say. Never had to call them about this bass. It's never needed to be repaired.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass for 14 years. I predominately play guitar now, but I still enjoy whipping out the Dyna-Bass and just jamming. This is the only bass I own and really ever intend to own. It's all I need. If this bass were stolen I would cry because I know I would be hard pressed to find another one in such great condition. Like I said before, I just wish they spent a little more time on the electronics. I really wish Peavey still made basses on par with the Dyna-Bass.

I got a free gig bag, strap, cable plecs etc. The appeaarance is simple but smooth and beautifull. The colour is nice and i like the effect. You have quite a few controls so you can get a very precise sound. The neck is also the perfect size.

Sound : 7
I play mainly punk and metal like rancid and metallica it suites the style quite well. I use a Peavey amp but no effects. It has a clear sound no fuzz etc. It has a nice sound Dark/rich. It has quite a large variety of sounds. I have only played in the studio but not at any gigs yet it performs well and my amp is powerful enough to get the required volume.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
When I got the bass it had no factory flaws/scratches or problems and it appeared to be stored well. The shop tuned it and gave me a demonstration and it seemed fine.

Reliability/Durability : 6
It is a bit heavy so it is not amazing for live playing I can imagine. It seems solid and looks like it will last.

nice sound good for slap and rock but can sound nice and mellow, has a rich sound with a lot of edge.

excellent action and setup i didnt need to adjust anything , but the controls rustle if i turn them quickly, alo the controls are a bit close to the bridge so when i palm mute it ends up real loud or real quite.

this 4 string fretted beauty is a unity series(mid 80's) dyna bass in koa, with a 5 piece neck-throo of koa/purpleheart,an ebony fretboard, with a very narrow jazz-like neck. the pickups are p-j style, which i have replaced with seymour duncan basslines, wired passive(my prefence) it has one volume and tone control for each pickup,so blending is very straightforward. the bridge is a schaller type, all the hardware is black, and i have the original peavey case,a great design(lightweight plastic) i think the bass is about 7 lbs.

the woods/electronics on this provide all i could ask for, there is a lot of depth to the tones, using the p-pickup i can get a huge full range sound which is great for slappn (altho i don't),and the j-pickup on the back will bring out a very articulate midrange sound, the simple controls make blending these ranges very easy. i tend to play a variety of styles, but like this bass a lot for rock, blues, rnb,it just cuts throo drums, guitars, etc.really well

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
bass was used,i have it set up to suit me. it is in overall very good condition.playing action is low,but now too low..

Reliability/Durability : 10
this is a really well made bass, all of the hardware is very durable, and i use this bass more than my others for playing live. i have only had to adjust the intonation/neck once, and that was because i decided to make it B-E-A-D 4 string! the b string sounds awesome,it is very focused, and i find i do not miss the g string, because i tend to try to play BASS,BABY!,so i really like the low tones this has.

Overall Rating : 10
i have been playing 20 years,i have 5 other basses, several amps,a keyboard synthesizer, and a couple of gadgets. i really like this bass, would probably try to find another if this were stolen, etc.it is very solid, and has a variety of great tones, and a great-feeling neck. this probably is my most all-around versatile bass,a lot of my other instruments are one-trick ponys! for the price, especially it is like getting a high-end (ie,alembic, smith) for next-to-nothing.

It's a Vietnamese built 4 string bass bought in 2001 from a local music shop. I was looking for a cheap bass to lay simple bass lines down on my four track and this 1980's looking bass caught my eye. My one is transparent black with a flamed maple veneer over goodness knows what sort of contoured wood body and has a matching coloured headstock. The horns are very deep allowing easy access to the dusty end of it's slim, 24 fret, bolt on maple neck. The rosewood fingerboard has plastic dot markers. Metal work is brushed chrome with smooth tuners and a bridge that allows thru body stringing. The pickups are two passive Peavey humbuckers with a volume and tone pot for each pickup. The pots have no markings on them which has caught me out a few times - why aren't they marked ?

Sound : 8
I tend to set the controls about midway on both pickups and that suits the acoustic singer/songwriter style I'm playing at the moment. Rear pickup only with the tone rolled on reminds me of a P-bass I played some while ago which is useful too. I sometimes play with a pick and sometimes with my fingers and it's fine for both. I can't slap so couldn't tell you what it's like for that. I've recorded it straight into my four track and also miking up the little 15 watt Park practice amp I have and it suits me fine.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action was a bit too low when I first got it with a few buzzes in the wrong places. I've raised the bridge a little and it's okay now. Otherwise everything works as it should and the finish is very good. If I didn't know how much I paid for it I would say it was worth a lot more money.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It leads a very easy life waiting for my next flash of inspiration so reliability and durability aren't really an issue. It feels good and solid so if I did need to play it out then I wouldn't be concerned. The strap buttons are good and wide and I've got Grolsch rubber washers on them for a bit of cred / security.

I've had no reason to contact Peavey, but if they read these reviews I'd like to say hello.

Hello !

Overall Rating : 8
I'm really a guitar player who was looking for a cheap and cheerful bass for recording at home. I tried a half dozen or so other basses and this one fulfills everything I wanted so I'm happy with it. The looks might not be to everyone's taste being a bit on the 1980's side and it might be a bit limited on sounds but I like it and let's face it black goes with everything.

1985 Model. 34" scale : 21 frets. Rosewood fingerboard with 8" Radius. It has 2 super ferrite pickups. 3 band active EQ with volume and blend buttons. Active electronics powered by a 9 volt battery placed beside electronics within the guitars back plate. Schaller bridge. Excellent premium machine heads.

Sound : 8
This guitar is pretty versitile. The onboard active electronics (Low, Mid and High) give you a wide spectrum of sound and in the passive mode the high control acts as a tone button. You are not dead in the water if your battery goes dead. Just a flip of the switch and you can continue to gig until you find time to replace the battery. The guitar even sounds great in passive mode. I have been using a Peavey TNT 150 combo amp with an optional Black widow speaker. I later Bi-amped it with a Peavey Basic 60. Loads of wallop and clarity. Now I am in a four piece group and only using the basic 60 as a stage monitor. I guess I got tired of lugging both amps especially the TNT. I was never too impressed with the finish (Charcoal grey) It is OK but i am more into natural wood grain looks and nicer colors. I am not fussy over black or grey guitar finishes. Natural or colorful is more to my taste. The guitar is worth overlooking the color.

This bass was set perfectly from the shop. I had it for several years before geting any work done to it. I have no complaints about the action fit but the finish, as I have said, is not quite what I desire (Charcoal grey). Well, it could be worse. The back side of the neck shows signs of wear from playing but also from the wear of the compartment lid inside the case. This lid should have soft material over it. In hindsight, I should have glued material on this lid where the neck rests to avoid premature surface paint wear on the neck. The Peavey molded case is very durable and keeps the bass well protected. I dropped this case in really cold weather and never broke a piece out of it

Never ever needed a backup bass. I have played this bass for 15 plus years and has never let me down. It is rugged and roadworthy. It just won't quit. The finish is tough and the hardware is like new. The control pots are a bit scratchy but a bit of spray clears that up for months at a time. This guitar is very stable and well constructed. Oh yeah. I replaced the active passive switch but only because I hit it and broke it inside. I am sure that it would still be fine if not for the accident

I have been playing for over 20 years. My first bass wasa Yahama BB200. I would buy an Ibanez if this bass was stolen or lost. I love the Ibanez SR3005SOL (5 string). That's my next Bass that I will own!
The best feature of this guitar is the active electronics - loads of variety. I wish it were a five string. This guitar is well suited for on the road. It will not let you down and preform consistently from gig to gig. You can beat on it and it will play on well into the 12 round. It just won't quit.

i bought my dyna bass on aug 12 1988. this ax is built like a rock.2 passive/active pickups withtoggle sw.pre amp with great tonal poss.the neck is similar to jazz bass nice and narrow. it came with schaller tuners and bridge. iset the neck and truss rod and bridge up back in 88 and onlt twice had to adj.orignal case long gone got an skb now.

Sound : 10
i play in a jazz trio and also a 6 pc. wed and party band and i can get any sound iwant with out gadgets. it will go from deep and fat to mid range punchy sound by just working the on board eq. it is only noisey when i play a hotel or banquet hall with dimmers then i keep the pu knob centered and its quiet .not the guitars fault.i use it with a gallien kruger 800 head and genz benz bottoms.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
like i said i set it up back in 88 after i bought it . it came pretty well set up from peavey but i tweaked it to my liking . intonation is always on the money neck is built solid.no flaws that icould notice finish was superb.getting alittle worn looking after almost 14 yrs .

Made in the USA - 1986 model with 2 super ferite pickups and active EQ controls. There is a switch to bypass the EQ allowing the bass to be played in passive mode. This means the bass doesn't die when you battery does - you can flip the switch and play without the battery - a real life saver during a gig when you don't have a spare 9-volt! Controls include 3 EQ's, volume, and pickup select.Another nice feature is a neck position adjustment screw. Whenever I needed to adjust this on other basses, I've had to use pieces of matchbook covers to build up under the neck - a real pain. This screw makes it much more convenient. The bass also came with a Peavey molded case, very nice and great protection.

Sound : 9
The active EQ provides a wide variety of sounds, and the super ferite pickups are loud, and noise-free. Nice sustain. Very happy with the sound. I even like the sound when I play it in passive mode - but without the EQ, you don't have as much control over the sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I puchased the bass used, and after 15+ years of use, everything is still original and works as good as new. The neck is straight (less about .010" relief) and the action is set way low without any buzz. All the hardware is quality and looks and works great. Aside from the typical dings, the finish is still beautiful - a red sparkle.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Again, it is over 15 years old and shows no sign of failing - finish still shines, strap buttons are solid, no scratchy-ness in the controls, tuners hold tuning forever, etc.

Customer Support : 10
Outstanding! I wanted to replace the neck-screws so I went to their website and emailed a request - several days later I had 4 new screws at no charge. I wanted to change the setup and needed a truss rod tool. I called, placed the order and had it in a week. People at Peavey are anxious to please customers and they haven't disappointed me yet.

Overall Rating : 10
I have bought/sold/ and played played many basses over the years. I find that the combination of features, sound, playability, and customer support with the Dyna-bass is tough to beat. I intend to keep it and if it were lost or stolen, I'd definitely buy another. No regrets.
