I play in a rock coverband and this has all the basses covered. I can get pretty much any tone I want. It is very good for the stage, I haven't recorded with it yet.

I would die to replace this bass if it were stolen. Like has been mentioned before, I had never even seen one of these before I got mine. I am suprised nobody talks about this bass. It is by far the nicest bass I have owned for the price.
I play MIA and MIM Fender Jazz basses as well... but this is my main bass now.

I am not sure when it was made, but this model (5-string Forum AX) was discontinued in the late 90's. I got it off eBay for $300 from a girl who had no idea what she had. Has two active soapbar pickups. 34 inch scale Neck is maple, fingerboard is rosewood and body is HEAVY AS HELL! Not nuts about the purple finish, but oh well. The weigh is the only complaint I have about it, although I think it was meant to compete with Music Man basses. Volume knob, tone knob, treble boost/cut knob. Bridge is very chunky, very solid and very easy to re-string. Hard case was included. Takes TWO 9-volts.

Most of the time it suits most of the styles of music I do, which is anything from 18th century to punk/alt, although I really have to cut the midrange on whatever amp I'm using (Stagg CG/Trace Elliott Commando/Peavey Minx) and boost the bass. Tends to get a bit trebly. Sounds fabulous with a Sans Amp. It's shielded very well and not noisy, just occasionally too trebly for what I need. Definitely good for stage, and with the right DI would work for studio.

Unless the girl I got it from noticed any flaws and fixed them, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the bass when I received it from her. It was in perfect playable condition.

This bass was a gig virgin, and as of tomorrow night it will be only the third time I've used it live. However, since I've owned it (which is about three years), it's only needed work once. I had the strap pins replaced only because I wanted strap locks. I rarely need to do truss rod work on it and at this point it's my sole bass. The finish would need to be run over with a Mack truck before anything noticeable happened.

I felt the Peavey customer service people were fabulous about giving me information about the original MFRP of the instrument and sending me a PDF copy of the owner manual. I have used Peavey equipment for years and never had problems. I don't, however, think it's under warranty at this point anymore, especially since they don't make this model anymore!

I've been playing about 20 years, and this is by far the best bass I've had. When I bid on this, I wasn't even really sure what to ask because I didn't know Peavey had made this model. However, I still want to get another one, period. I love the fact that the truss rod stays true and that it stays in tune. Yeah, it's heavy, but you get used to it. Comparing it with my 5-string Rick 4003, the Rick is a pencil neck and I want to trade it for another Forum! If anything, I wish it were another color but purple.

Not sure when it was made but best guess is around 2000. Got it cheap from a dealer that had it on his rack for a year and couldn't sell it.
This has a swamp ash body with a very nice semi-transparent urethane cream-colored finish. Controls for the two active pickups include master volume, pickup blend, and bass and treble. The neck is rock hard maple with an ebony fretboard and, typical for Peavey, is narrower and thinner than most... very playable. Big old honkin' bridge with a mond-boggling but very precise set of adjustments. I've added a Hipshot d-tuner.

It has a huge sound on stage and in the studio, which is perfect for the high-energy heavy-rock 3-piece band I'm in. However, the controls make adjustments mid-song very easy. It has a booming bass sound without losing the punchy top end. The only problem I've had is that sometimes the sound is too huge... it's hard to be quiet with this thing.

The set up was perfect when I bought and still is. Took it to a tech for the first time last week to have the intonation set but when I came back to pick it up, he said he didn't have to do anything... and this is after 3 years of heavy gigging.
The only flaw in the finish is black speck on the back of the bass. Looks like a piece of dirt got into the paint at the factory.

Like I said, I gig a lot and am rather abusive to this instrument but have had to make only minor adjustments since purchased.
I always have a backup on stage (another Peavey) but only because batteries may day or strings may break.

The circuit board for the pickups crapped out the first week I bought it but it was replaced within a couple of day and haven't had a problem since. Haven't needed tech support since.

I've been playing for 18 years and have owned many instruments, from top-of-the-line to bottom-of-the-barrel. For the money this is most playable, versatile, and reliable instrument I've ever owned. The only drawback is weight... kinda heavy for live performances.
If it was stolen I'd do everything possible to get another one just like it. Unfortunately, it's the only one I've ever seen. Can't even find one on e-bay.... guess no one else is willing to give them up.

This bass has got two active pickups which give it a huge bass boost.

It gets great lows when all of the four knobs are set to full bass sound. When set about half-way, it can get better highs. This bass has sounded great through all my Peavey brand Bass cabs (from '80s models to my '97 model cab). However, one of the pickups tends to drain one of the 9-volts about every month or two.

The action is great. Certainly can't complain about that. The bridge design is pretty tough. This bass was made to be used like crazy, 'cuz it's tough.
