Four string lined fretless bass. Two Peavey pickups, with a volume control for each, plus a single tone control. Very thin, comfortable neck. The fret lines are a big help in playing fretless. Lacks features like active electonics or a fifth string, but IMHO active electonics are prone to be noisy (especially in this price range), and the thinner neck profile is more comfortable to play.

Sound : 9
Sounds great through my Ampeg 410 cabinet & B2R head. The neck pickup gets a rich/full punchy sound, and the bridge p/u gets a sharper crisp sound. For regular play I can set the neck at about 7, bridge at 5, tone at 10 and use the amp master volume toset overall level. For solos, just turn up the bridge pickup.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Its made in the USA, and it shows. The microtilt adjuster for neck angle is a nice feature for getting low action.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Like all Peavey gear, this thing is built like a tank.

No experience with them

I've been playing bass, guitar & mandolin for decades. This is a great bass for the money. You could pay for more features like active electronics or a fifth string, but for me this one hits the sweet spot on the simplicity vs. flexibility curve.

Year unkown, made in the usa.
21 markings on this 4-string Fretless.
2 passive single-coil pickups. (nice pickups though, good sound) v/v/tone.
Mine is a alder body, but I know a lot are poplar. Maple neck, with rosewood fingerboard, nice and thin, like a fender jazz.
Really, a good solid bass, thats a little more than just a p-bass copy.
Oh, and the body is balanced VERY well.
It's got what you want in a bass without extra stuff that just clutters up your bass.
I've upgraded this alot, but I'm writting as I remeber the bass.

Sound : 9
I really like the sound that comes out of this thing. Pretty warm, with a full sound and a good, snappy top end.
I use this with a GK cabnet, and a 10" behringer amp. Both are good, but through the GK, it sounds like a much better bass.
Sounds really nice for slaps, but like all fretless, really comes into it's own with vibrato and slides. Nice varity of sound though. I really like this as a stage guitar, as its pretty durable.
All in all, great sound for this price. Really.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
No flaws on mine, except the action on the G was insane, but it was easy enough to adgust.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Built sturdy, this bass wil last a while. I think I would use it on a gig without a backup, but I perfer to take it as a backup then use it right off the bat.

I really like the neck and body on this bass.
This thing is hard to upgrade, but if you do, its completly worth it - through bridge, the neck is soft, so put some gun hilt polish on it, and although these are quality pickups, I replaced them with 2 jazz pickups. Great bass from the start though, and I want to see it's rateing go a little hire than that 7.

4 strings, 2 pickups, vol/vol/tone.
It has a neat neck tilt adjustment that makes it very easy to adjust the action, this is a great feature on such an afordable bass.

Sound : 8
I play mainly jazz and rock. I use it with flatwound strings, it's got a realy punchy sound with the flatwounds, it sounds good.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
good action, fit and finish are what they are exspected to be on a bass in this price range

Reliability/Durability : 5
One of the pickups doesn't work all the time, sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. It is very anoying

I have been playing for 7 years, I also have a Univox P-bass copy. If this bass were stolen, I probably would buy another if I cound find one at a reasonable price, but i wound make sure both pickups worked first

4 string, 21 fret fretless bass. Standard 2 pickup setup with 2 volumes and a tone. Flamed top.

Sound : 9
Great smooth sound. I have been using this bass for over a year in my current groove/dirty rock band and it sounds just right. I have also used it in the past for death/hardcore type of music. Played through a Kustom head and cabinet and it produces a very nice gritty low end but doesn't get muddy sounding. When in the studio I plug it directly into the board and it works out find. I also would suggest using nylon flatwound strings. I prefer these over round wound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Action seems to be kind of high on mine. Bought mine used so I don't know about the factory set-up. Flamed top finish isn't very attractive looking. Pickups seem to be adjusted fine.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Haven't had any problems with it during the last 10 years or so. Seems to stay in tune fine, even with varying temperatures. Pickups and electronics are still fine. The only one minor problem I had was a loose nut which was an easy fix.

Overall Rating : 9
Great bass. I have considered buying a fretted bass for the ease of playing but I can't give up the smooth sound I get from this. I definitely would look at buying one of these again, both because of sound/quality and price.

Like the other reviews stated, it is a basic 21 note neck, with two soapbar passive pickups. The fingerboard is an unfinished rosewood, and I'm not sure what the body is made of. It has a volume control for both pickups, plus a tone knob. It's your basic P-Bass style body, but it has a narrow, more Jazz-Bass like neck. No bells or wistles, but it gets the job done.

Sound : 8
I've used my bass for 6 years now, and it is versitle enough to get played on many gigs. My pick-ups have no noise problems at all, and the I use the pick-ups at a variety of settings. The back pickup has more of a trebley, mid-range tone, but can get really punchy with a little of the front mixed in. The tone control can darken up the sound, which is nice. Personally, I do like it better in the studio. It can get really growly, but also is capable of a nice punch. It's output is a little one the low side on stage, but the sound is still nice.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I bought my bass used, so I really can't comment on the factory set-up. Everything is with my instrument was in proper condition when I bought- the finish was fine, neck is good, bridge has given me no trouble at all, and the tuners are great. Seriously, the thing never goes out of tune. Really nice.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I've been playing this bass as my main instrument for the past six years, and it's done fine. The hardware is great, the finish is in pretty much the same condition as when I bought it, and I've never had a problem with the strap buttons. I only really adjust the truss twice a year. The Ohio winters do throw the neck off a little, but it's never takes very much tweaking. I have used it on a gig without backup, although I do normally bring my P-Bass. I did have a problem with the input jack, like the other user, but it wasn't with the electronics. The plastic plate the help the jack became cracked, which caused the wires to dangle and eventually come loose. To fix it, I shelled out the 7 bucks for the chrome plate, and haven't had a problem since. I did recently replace the pots, but considering I've had to do the to my P-Bass twice (an instrument I've had for 4 years longer), I don't think that's to bad. All in all, it's been a workhorse.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 10 years now, and I've used this bass for every kind of gig imaginible. It was great for pop/funk playing, as well as jazz. Also, to my suprise , I use it more than my P-Bass in my current gig, a classic rock cover band. I always been able to get a wide variety of sounds, and it plays really well. The instrument balances a little funny- the neck seems to want to jet out away from my body, so I try to pull it a little past where my right hand lays on other basses to correct it. I would recommend using only flatwound strings. The feel better, they sound better on this bass, and they won't chew up the fingerboard. Bottom line- this bass has a faster neck than most other 4-strings I've tried (especially at the price range), has a wide variety of sounds, and is on the whole very reliable. If you can find on, I'd highly recomend it.

Early-mid 90s, fretless with 21 lines, 4 strings
Sorta glossy black body with two pickups, two volume knobs, and one tone knob. I'm not sure what it's made of. The body style is sorta P-bassy/Stratocastery. Not very exciting looking.

Hillariously oversized head with big key-like machineheads.

Sound : 5
It isn't exactly the type of sound expected for pop-rock, but it works. The pickups bother me. They're extremely microphonic and will pick up noise of fingers gently tapping the neck. It almost seems like it would pick up my voice if I talked to it. If the two pickups are at even slightly different volumes, the hum will make it unusable, so the pickups must be used together. As for the tone knob, I don't know if it does anything at all. But I could lay in bed for hours with this thing unplugged just tapping the strings in random spots listening to the harmonics.

(Not very punchy and not even that deep, but it does sound pretty cool.)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action on this thing isn't too bad. It's not mine though, so I'm not sure if it has been tampered with.

Reliability/Durability : 2
This bass has issues. From as far back as I can remember, if the controls for the two pickups are any different, this creates a hum which makes the bass unusable. The tone control doesn't do anything I've been noticing. The chrome, round knobs all fell off, and the jack came loose and totally disintegrated. I held it in place with duct tape on the inside for a while and might have fixed it, but I don't remember. For all I know there is still duct tape under the little plastic thing surrounding the jack. At least I don't feel like the neck is about to fall off any time soon.

Overall Rating : 4
The bass is sorta comfortable to play, but it's boring looking, the pickups are weird, everything comes loose, it doesn't stay in tune, and it only does its job with both pickups on the highest setting. The lines on the fretboard do help get that extra precision on a fretless. This is the first bass I remember playing, and the first time I tried out a Mexican Fender P bass, I strongly prefered it. I wouldn't want to use this on stage. It would either fall apart or just look too boring.

I bought this bass used because I wanted to go to fretless and this was the cheapest in the store. It may not be the most fancy bass ever, but I would have to recommend it to anybody who wants a solid, reliable bass. It has two passive single-coil pickups, and they are the best sounding single-coils I have ever heard. They produce a very deep and solid low end and a clean and very smooth high end. I am required to play extremely fast, so I can't have a neck that seems to hang my fingers up. This bass has an easy neck to move around on, although it doesn't look very flashy. I would have to say that this is a very good bass for heavy/speed metal bassists and beginning jazz and blues bassists. This is definitely a great four-string fretless.

Sound : 8
This bass suits heavy/speed metal very well. I pump it through a Peavy TNT115, and the combo delivers unbelievable lows and good highs.
It has a very clean sound with no noticable excess noise, and the sound range is very versatile for such a simple setup. It works well for both studio and live playing, and the only problem I've ever had with it is that it is not an active electronics like I wand, and it is a pretty simple looking bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
This bass was originally made as a fret bass, but the previous owner had the frets stripped out of it. Whoever did it did a good job, though. The pickups are set very high to give a good sound, yet they are not too high to cause buzz or any other problems. The action is a little bit high, which makes it a less than awesome solo bass, but I've make out pretty well, so it is not that bad.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is a solid, reliable bass. I've never had any problems in two years other than the fretboard needing sanded down, but that is typical maintenance for a fretless. I would say that it held out very well for how hard I play.

Customer Support : 8
Peavey is a dealership only company, but the dealers are pretty easy to find. They are a popular bass, so you should have no problem with consultation or other things, but I have never yet had the need with this bass.

Overall Rating : 8
I have no regrets with this bass. It has served me well, and will continue to. If it were stolen, I'm not sure if I would get the same or not, but nobody would be crazy enough to steal it from an unstable, psychotic gun owner. Need I say more?!?
