This is a 5-string bass made in Korea, I think it's the 2003 model.
Neck: hard rock maple, good grain, 21 medium frets on a pau ferro (feels like rosewood, looks like a mixture from alder and rosewood, very very smooth grained), 3+2 satinized chrome noname-machine heads (working out fine), 5-point bolt-on. 35" scale instead of the actual 2004 model which has a 34" scale. The 35" scale is the main reason why I bought this bass.
There is a string retainer which enhances the pressure to the saddle, allowing the string to sustain better. Combined with a string-thru-body routing you get very very good sustain for this price range. You can also string it more traditionally through the bridge, but I love the sustain from a STB.
The truss rod can be adjusted at the body-side with a pole rather than a hex wrench. I really like that because you can do the adjustments much faster and easier, you get more "feedback" from the rod, and by using the supplied adjustment pole you won't harm your strings. I really like that, because the truss rod, or the adjustment, is the weak spot on most basses, no matter which price range (I played a 4000 $ bass once, and you needed a towel for protecting the strings, a 4 mm hex wrench for adjustment and a philips screwdriver for opening the lid - that's traditional, but not useful in my eyes)
Body: I think it's made from agathis (quite similar to alder in sound), deeply contoured heels, very balanced when on a strap. Quite big though, but I like that. It has got a nice quilted maple top.
The bridge is satinized chrome like the machine heads, very massive, adjustable in 2 ways (height, intonation). No adjustment for string spacing though, but you can change that by putting in a different spaced nut. Very much headroom for intonation adjustments, which means you could use heavy strings or very light strings with no problem.
Controls: 5 knobs: master volume, pickup blend, bass, mid, treble.
Electronics: active Peavey humbuckers, the 3-band eq can deliver up to +10 dB on each band.
Back: control cavity, battery cavity (to be opened with a philips screwdriver, unfortunately)
Concerning about the price I would give this bass a 9.

In my band we have got a lot of different music styles, varying from acoustic ballads, funk stuff, rock, metal, oldies, ... the guitars are tuned to Drop C, which means the low B string is very essential to me. You simply can't get a 35" transparent finish bass in this price range, so I was very happy finding one of the last 35"-built-2003 Fury V. The pickups deliver very delicate, direct, natural sound compared to other active PU's. I like passive pickups because you can hear the "woody" part of the sound, but these active peavey humbuckers seemed like the best compromise. I often play plugged into the house PA, with it's quiet electronics it will never be a problem.
The 35" scale is a great plus for the low B string, you can play fingerstyle with no hassles. On my 34" bass fingering sounds very muddy compared to the Peavey. The string-to-string volume is very evenly balanced, the G string won't pop out and the B string won't be over-dominant. The sound is open and versatile, the mid eq grips right where it should. You always get the sound you need, no matter if you're playing with a pick, fingers, slapping or tapping. with the bass eq turned to ~6 you can play very dynamic dead notes, they virtually spit out of the amp. But I have to say that I miss the classic P-sound in the neck position, the pickups are more focused on the low-mids than the bass.
I look forward to using this bass on stage, it looks gorgeous and sounds like a twice-the-price bass. It's quiet in all pickup positions, with the high eq turned to 10 (although I never do that) you won't hear any noise.
The pickups aren't the creme-de-la-creme, but they do a very good job. I thought about switching to EMG's or Bartonlini's, but I don't think that it would be a great improvement.
Sound Rating: 9, because I've played this bass on alot of amps and setups ranging from an 8-inch guitar amp, POD's, 15" gallien-krueger amps, ... and I got a solid sound everywhere. At home, I mostly play over that 8-inch-guitar-amp (peavey rage 108) and it sounds *SWEET*. I can't wait for christmas when I get my 15" rig :)
Action, Fit, & Finish

The action was set very low when I bought it, the two lowest strings buzzed, the neck curvature wasn't right and the blend pot was cracking. The set-up took me about 20 minutes, and now everything is alright, no buzzing wherever, very even action.
Since the pickups are active there is very little difference in sound when adjusting the height. The bridge PU is a bit louder than the neck position, which is ok for me because I like to turn down the treble a bit when playing there, but you can screw it down to have more equal volume if you play on 100/0 or 0/100 position. Since I play 50/50 most of the time this setup is just right for me.
The fretboard isn't in well condition behind the nut, but who really cares about 1/16" of optical misfit ?
Now the good news:
I played about 20 5-string basses this week and none had SUCH a gorgeous neck. It just fits perfect, no matter where you are on the neck. Comfy and effortless playing all day..
Except the factory-set action and neck relief the bass had absolutely no flaws. The finish is just great.

I've played this bass for about two weeks now, and I think that I won't need a backup bass in future. The Peavey feels very sturdy, the tuning pegs arent loose nor tight, the strap buttons are oversized and feel rock-solid. Maybe I'll change the jack to a Neutrik-locking-type. The truss rod works very smooth and quiet.

I've been playing guitar for 5 years, bass for two years, and I've visited a lot of stores and played lots of gigs, so I know what's out there. I think that the Fury is one of the most versatile instruments I've held in my hands so far. It has a modern look, great finish, active electronics, solid hardware - what else do you want more? :)
Contra side: the battery lid (pop-out would be very useful).
Pro side: 35" scale (tight B), neck feel, string retainer (+sustain), bridge (+sustain, thru-body or bridge stringing), fretboard (pau ferro), truss rod adjustment (love that chrome pole), overall sound.
If this instrument was stolen I think that I would buy another one the same day. You simply can't get this scale and active electronics and such a cool neck for this price. I'm really in love with the EQ. Even if it had a sweepable midrange control like on the cirrus I would leave it on this fixed setting, it works beautiful.
The Fury V is defininately a great value instrument with tons of positive features.

Sounds fantastic;good broad range of tones including a convincing P bass tone.I use a gorilla 35 watt practice amp in the house (which incidentally struggles with low b when boosted)and a 350 watt peavey combo 115 for live.Great in church band, great in swing band perfect for practice.Factory strings ok but i changed them for elites with a taperwound b for an even brighter tone.

All ship shape and bristol fashion,as us limeys say!!The black face on the headstock is a little delicate though, and scratches easily with string ends,as i found out this morning!!String tree is the bar retainer type, which is a little too close the b tuner.

I have been playing for about 4 years, and have owned a number of basses in the past, including a fretless american p bass, and a couple of Arias.I love this guitars playability;it is so light and comfy, and the sounds make it "inputdownable"!!
If I could offer a tip,go try one but spend some time toying with the tones.Try a few different styles-I play mainly with fingers but also pick and slap.

Madein 2002 or 2001, made in korea, 5 string (I think that is why they call it Fury 5) I don't know what kind of strings were put on this bass from the factory, but I really like them. It has 2 pickups, h/b's I think, 5 knobs, don't remember what they do, but prabably somewhere in these reviews you can find that info. It has active elec. quilted sumburst finish. The neck is just right for me. Thin but not too wide, it is really easy to play.

It is very versitle sound wise. Gets lots of sounds from snappy to muddy. (can't get my p-bass sound out of it tho) I use only for recording and it does the job no matter what style or feel or skinny or fat or round and smooth or bright and full. Does it all. Altho, I have recorded another bass player who owns a Warrier bass, and there is no way this Peavey stacks up to the Warrier. That doesn't mean it is not a very useful bass. I love it.

For 400 American hard earned dollars, it is a steal. I have not played a lot of basses, except, my p-bass, so I have no way to compare it with anything else. I'm sure there are other basses that are just as good for the same price. I've been playing music for about 40 years. I have played bass, drums, guitar, acoustic guitar, fronted bands, played in show bands, country bands, cover bands, rock bands, Christian bandsm bluegrass bands and have had a lot of fun over the years. I am no longer in the music business as a full time deal. But that is more because of my choice than any thing else. Just got tired of it.

Versatile sound: I play professionally so I play just about everything and this bass comes thru like a champ for just about all styles All I need now is a four string fretless and I'm set. The three band eq enables me to dial every tone I need,(almost as good as my Warwick for which I paid $1100 more)

I received this bass in "ready to gig" condition except for tuning which was no problem. I guess previous owner knew how to take care of his equipment because this baby has no blemishes, dings etc. I didn't have to make any changes at all. As far as how they come from the factory, I really don't know . The action is comfortable at about med to low height for me with no buzz. I have smallish hands but with this 5 string,no problem, great fit as well as balance and nowhere near as heavy as my warwick (thank you Jeasus)
pickups are quiet, just a slight buzz when adjusting the pickup blend control(probably dust& easily corrected).Hardware looks good for being lightweight. So far no compliants. I rate it a 9 because no instrument is perfect in my opinion.

I have always taken extremely good care of my gear. They're my tools and I can't afford to have them fail. This bass appears to have durability. Finish looks sturdy though I prefer oiled finishes to lacquer. It stands up to gigging well but I never gig without some sort of backup.

I've been playing bass 25 yrs. and I have owned many basses with good and not so good memories, this bass is definately a good one so far. This is definately the most comfortable 5 string I've owned. I guess I would replace this one if I lost it or had it stolen. The retail price of a new one is very reasonable. For a $490 bass this is an excellent buy.

sorry for my english.... (I'm french) So, this is a 5 string bass guitar, 20 frets, 2 peavey pick ups, bass/middle/treeble boosts, a volume control and a pick up balance. The string are through body.
8 because the strings are to close for me to slap easily and because of a little peace of letal pressing the strings at the top of the neck (I don't know how to call it) that is really useless...

GREAT, it is really a good bass for that, you can find any sound with it. I like to play various kind of music and it sound perfect with all of them!!! And for rock you have a really loud sound that suits very well. The pick ups are very precise with the lowest string and you can put your bass on "re" without any problems.
I use a peavey microbass (appartment amplifier) and it isn't strong enough for this basse! I also use a korg pandora PX3B effect.

I would give a 9 because I realy feel like the string are to close to each other... But that's my opinion: my friends doesn't think so... I would say that I wish the strings could be farther from each others.
If it were stolen or lost I would like to buy an Ibanez K5 or something like that, but it costs the dobble so...
When I bought it, I was comparing it to the ibanez SRX *** (don't remember the right number, but it was black and pretty nice), and I defenetly choosed this one because of it's great sound, it's look (transparent red) and its neck (the best I've ever tested) even if it was more expensive!
