Peavey Milestone III

For the price, its a pretty good bass. its definitely very solid. i abused mine, and it still plays nice. i've dropped it on concrete and left it outside in my car in below zero temperatures. I've never had any problems with it. its my backup bass, so i just treat it like crap, and it seems to hold up. i've had mine for 2 years, and the only complaint is that the tone is not the best. its good for the money.

The cheap screws tarnish what would otherwise be an asthetically pleasing bass... But otherwise I'm happy with it.
Paid a bit much for it after looking at the other reviews... ??140 in Wigan, England. No extra stuff either. I was desperate to get my hands on a bass though and I struck lucky!
Made in China, dunno what the neck and fret board is made of, but it feels and looks nice enough.
Had it 3 months and not had a problem. Stays in tune a treat too!

I'm in a metal band and in practice it just is overpowered. I wouldn't gig with it for certain. However, other lighter styles it's very versatile for the price.
At home I get lost when I'm strumming away. For a starter bass it sounds much better than the competition. Sometimes it's a bit clunky if you go at it, but otherwise there's no complaints.

Like others have said, the neck's small and snug... Great for people with small hands like myself and slides effortlessly. Nothing else to write home about, but no complaints either.

Obviously, I can't comment on it's durability much because I've had it for only 2/3 months, but it's been played very hard in that time. My house mates sat and stood on it in a drunken stupor and it's still happy. So thumbs up so far.

Been playing about a year. First bass I've bought and I've got no complaints! I tried it against the other basses in the shop and those of friends. Most ??100+ more expensive and it stood it's ground. Obviously you get what you pay for, but it's certainly one of the best available in it's price range.
Everyone who's played it so far had reacted positively towards it.
It's just nice to play.
If it were lost or stolen, I'd probably save my pennies and buy something better, but as an impulse buy, it hasn't disappointed.

Bolt on neck, 20 frets, two passive pickups.

Quite a weak sound with little low end. For the price it isnt bad but could do with more punch.

I felt the action was very dodgy when i first brought the bass and even after i had a professonal set it lower for me i still felt it lacked the attack neccassary for aggressive slap sounds.

The bass funtioned well for about 2 years until a fault with the electrics on the input put it out of action. During this time I took quite good care of the instrument and hardly played it for the first year.

Overall not a fantastic bass and not the most reliable instrument i've ever owned. It suffers from poor sound quality and doesnt feel great to play. As a beginers instrument i think its a poor introdutuion to playing bass. If anything it put me off playing bass for some time.

Made in the early 2000's I guess, this particular model was crafted in Vietnam.

3 control knobs,1 volume for each pickup and 1 for tone, which has quite a wide sweep, especially considering the price, at the store I bought this in, they threw in a gig bag for an extra fiver, meaning I paid ??115 for the lot

It's a nice sounding passive bass, I mean, it's not like, mind blowing, but at the price it goes for, what do you expect?
It does have a nice Jazz bass sound, which makes it versatile and a very good first bass, on this bass I've learnt to slap and pop, finger strum (Les Claypool style, like venetian), and am exploring tapping, all sound prety decent on this bass

I originally played it through a practice amp,but I am now using a Laney R4 which has vastly improved its sound, as a good amp should.

I have played this bass live, and it's sounded ok, it's not fantastic for lead breaks as it lacks the punch of a P-style bass, but with both pickups cranked up it helps creates a good solid rhythm section.

There's nothing I really dislike about the sound,but obviously basses such as Fender Jazzes sound a lot better, better built, better electronics, better pickups, but I've played a lot of "starter basses", such as Washburns,Staggs,cheap Deans and a few others, and this is the best sounding (And cheapest) of all, in my opinion, but I believe Jazz style basses are the most versatile and have the definitive slap sound.

I bought this bass from PMT in Birmingham,England.

I haven't had to change a thing to do with set up, the action was perfect, low without being to low, the pickups were well adjusted, there were/are no noticable dead spots on the neck, which has a really nice feel.

So no flaws really, and an easily adjustbale trust rod,as you can get to the adjusting part very easily without dismantling the bass

This bass has withstood live playing, however,the jack plate did become loose,with the end result being I had to re-solder the wires at the input jack, but since then there have been no problems what so ever!

The hardware has all lasted well, the strao buttons seem solid, and I always gig without backup as due to strange circumstances involving dissapearing basses, its my only current bass

but I've had it a year and the input jack has been the only problem, and had exactly the same thing happen to my old Ibanez, except it happend 5 times in 6 months, and that's without gigging...

to me,one bass seems a LOT more reliable, and was a damn sight cheaper....hmmmmmm

Never used them, but think I've got like, a 5 year warranty or something? Not sure, I dont mind, I'm getting a Fender Mustang in a month, so this bass will become my back up/mod project

I've been playing for just over 2 years on and off now, I currently own this bass, a Laney R4 bass amp, an ElectroHarmonix Bass Balls pedal and a Boss ODB-3 Overdrive, I play in a gigging band so the bass sees regular action and it holds up pretty well, though I wouldnt throw it around "Nirvana Style", it'd just fall apart,but instruments are there to play, not throw.

The neck really is the nicest thing about this bass, the only neck that I've found nicer is the neck on an Ibanez Soundgear Xtreme Prestige or something, and that cost ??650....big difference!!
It's just nice and thin,and fast, and I adore thin necks becuase I have small hands.

If it were stolen/dissapeared like my last bass, I would be very upset, as it has lots of sentimental value, though not my first bass,it's the first bass I've owned that I feel 100% comfortable playing,and is the bass I've relaly improved on, learnt to slap on, learnt to strum on and all these things, I also like how it looks, but I wouldn't replace it, it wouldn't be the same, and as stated above, I'm getting a Fender Mustang in a month,so this'll become my back up and chill out bass, which I may mod and do up, becuase it deserves it.

I really think this is one of,if not THE best starter bass for people, it's so versatile and for the money I don't think you'd get better quality.

Basic features have been covered in other reviews. This appears to be a recent issue(maybe 2004 or '05), there were no appreciable signs of wear or use. I wiil add that there are a few impressive details such as tension-adjustable tuning machines, two-way truss rod adjustment, and hum cancellling pickups when used together.

This is where a simple modification made this J-bass copy really shine sonically. I rewired the electronics for master volume/master tone and added a small switch to give me either the neck pickup or both pickups in series instead of parallel (I didn't care for the bridge pickup tone by itself and left it out of the switching options, but with a different switch you can have all three options). The two pickups in series (which is humbucking) boost the output and add a nice midrange "thunk" to the tone. I enjoyed the tone of the neck pickup alone, but find myself using the series configuration most of the time now. And it reacts well with the stock tone circuit, giving nice tonal variations along the range of the control. IMHO, Peavey should add this option, it really perks up the sound of this bass.

The other amazing thing about this "entry-level" bass was the neck... what a sweet feel! I bought this used and the action was not in the best adjustment, but I grinned as I ran around the neck. I recall Peavey being one of the first manufacturers to use computer-controlled machines to shape their necks and bodies-- they've obviously refined their techniques and paid attention to details. The lightly finished back of the neck, the nicely contoured fretboard, and the overall shaping are an amazing combination. After a thorough setup, there was no question-- the feel rivaled many of the more expensive basses I've sampled over the years. Now, on the downside, I've experienced the same problems of several other reviewers: strap button screws loosening, jack and plate loosening, crooked screws in the pickguard, rough pots, and a microphonic bridge pickup. But after addressing each problem with glue, better screws, Locktite, and even a repotting of the bridge pickup, the bass is now stable. The finish seems durable enough and the hardware is very good quality.

I am primarily a guitarist, but sit in on bass with a band of acoustic musicians playing a wide-range of material from folk to jazz to classic rock and wanted to upgrade and not spend a lot on something I wouldn't use as a primary instrument. I'm confident this Peavey product will hold up like my ancient Peavey Bass head has; just take reasonable care of it and play on. I agree that the body material, likely a plywood of some sort, initially lacks some integrity on actively stressed hardware like strap buttons and the jackplate, but after some minor repairs and mods it has held up without further problems. No reservations about gigging without backup.

I have emailed Peavey from time to time and gotten prompt and useful responses. As for a warranty, I bought this used and do my own repairs and adjustments, so aside from any major issues, I wouldn't bring it back to the dealer.

I've been playing bass on and off for about 15 years. My main instrument is guitar, but have found a renewed interest in bass over the last year or so and wanted an instrument that had improved playability over my old P-bass copy and didn't cost a lot. The feel of this bass is what attracted me at first. It has reasonably good engineering and a Peavey pedigree. It had a good primary tone and I knew it could be modified and upgraded electronically, but was pleasantly surprised how a simple mod gave it a toneful voice. It is a mass-produced, entry-level item; I expected some details would need attention. I would buy another with no reservations. A good going-over, a thorough setup, and a simple modification made this a marvelously playable and pleasingly toneful instrument.

milestone III. say's 'milestone BXP' on the headstock. body is alder, not plywood. maple neck w/ rosewood fretboard. trussrod adjustment wheel @ the base of the neck. 2 single coil J-style p'ups. sunburst finish. made in China. precision body style.

i like a bright piano sound that cuts through in a loud setting and this bass does that. records well and plays live very well. the strings that came w/ it are still on and i keep them clean as much as possible. my nephew has a fender 'geddy lee' jazz and i like my milestone III better. believe it or not, i get a little more growl out of my bass than i get out of his. this instrument is way under-priced.

out of curiosity, i decided to take it apart and see how well it was made. to my surprise the neck pocket was VERY tight. the fit between the body and neck was due to the tightness of fit. if you were to take a piece of printer paper and attempt to slide it between the neck and the pocket, it won't fit! nice job peavey. nut and bridge were in good shape. action was a bit high for my tastes but a twirl of the truss rod and she was 'good to go.'

strap buttons on this thing are very solid as are the other things in question, (cord jack, stable truss rod, finish is tough.) i would recommend that if someone wants to learn how to do thier own set-up, this bass because of the truss-rod adjustment wheel, will make it a very easy process to learn. i would gig w/o a back-up in a heartbeat and never look back.

benn playing for 27 years. have a homemade 1x12 cab. if stolen i would hunt down the ones who did it and take it out of thier hide because they don't make this bass anymore.

J bass copy neck narrow at nut seems to be offset centerline 1 litle flat spot at 2nd fret but being an oiled neck ant the price I might smooth that out myself , I'll just chalk that up to a RH luthier making a LH neck, they had 2 and it seemed different flatter on the lower part of the neck if that makes sense to you, as with any student grade guitar pull a few out of the box and try them cause sometimes they use flashy paint to sell junk to kids.

Decent starter bass also about the only one available in LH from Peavey offshore I believe If you see one for 75 - 150 used in decent shape for a korean one definatly have a second look

This is a Vietnam made, maybe 2001 or 2002 (Who knows?). 4 strings, 20 frets, Laminated Top. Jazz bass passive configuration also passive electronics. Maple bolt-on neck (soo nice!), and multilaminated body. The sunburst finish is good (three colors). Musicman's body style.

Not bad for a begginner...

This is my first bass and I think I did a good investment. Sounds good for funk, slap style but no so good for metal. I uses a BXR 200 combo or Laney R2 (I love both). It's noisy, this is a passive bass, just turn down the treble control.

No expect so much from this bass, but you can play comfortably all kind of music. If you're a pro player, you'll want more definition, more warm... Don't forget, this is a 200$ bass!!!

This bass never will dissapointed you if you see the price. This baby works good, on the stage and gigs. Probably, this bass are limitated because is a benninner bass (you never will sound like Victor Wooten with this).

I would have another bass... Nobody knows if you will need...

I'm playing basses since I was 13, I'm 23 now. I play with two little pedals (an Ibanez BE 10 EQ and a Boss LM-2 limiter), and the bass gimme very good responses. This is my second bass (my main bass is an Ibanez BTB Prestige handmade imitation) because I was searching more warm and versatility. I think I wouldn't leave this one, but I played better basses.

Would I buy this bass again? I like play this bass. But I won't die if somebody stole this. Probably, yes, I will buy this bass again. But you can get some better in same price... (I saw this bass with a cheaper price than I get it) :-(

It's a amateur bass. If you compare to a CT or Squier... Maybe it's better. You can't compare it with a Musicman or a Fender. Only a practice bass.

As mentioned before, no point in repeating what has already been said.

It is a jazz bass so it can be used for just about every type of music. I use it with an SWR 2*10c basscombo. It has very little noise except when you turn the tone knob up it hums but every bass does that. It has a very warm jazzy sound, good for putting up a basis for the band. Its not very good for solo's.

When I got the bass the strings were a bit far above the neck but I suspect the guy in the guitarstore for doing that. He hates basses so I don't go there anymore. The pickups were adjusted fine. The frett's haven't been laid in very tight so they can rattle. I have to knock them back sometimes. I do suspect that that is only the case on this particular bass because the guys at the guitarstore didn't take care of it to well.

I've hads it for a couple of years know and I never had big problems with it. Its not a workhorse but its not intended that way.

This was my first bass and it is perfect for learning how to play. Its the best choice in its pricerange and up. I wouldn't buy it back if it were stolen but that's because it was my first bass, I own a Lakland 55-02 now and that's my main bass.

body and neck - maybe an alder and maple. and a rosewood fretboard, off course. a typical standard for a low - priced bass guitar. everything is so typical, but this bass looks dammit good. liked it from the beginning thanx to that.

I had much more better basses. I had Yamaha (my favourite and always my number one), Ibanez (my second fav), Fender (US and Mex), Rickenbacker, Univox (a Rick copy), MEG, Mayones (a Polish basses), Warwick, Hohner, etc.
comparing to them - Peavey Milestone 3 isn't a bad bass. this is not a bad bass, but it is not also a children's toy. It sounds surprisingly good, especially when two pickups are used together. but I think that's rather a bass guitar for the beginners. for that price it's dammit good.

I had to set up it on my own, so I can't say anything about the factory settings.

it's a good bass for live playing, maybe quite good for recording your first demo with a band or at home. anyway - in the future you should buy better pickups (EMG, etc.) or... a new bass guitar.
one of the very big advantages is the neck of this guitar - IT'S VERY, VERY COMFORTABLE. feels almost like an Ibanez or Yamaha under your fingers. but remember also that's not the Japaneese - quality bass :-))
tested it live (Carlsbro 300 Watt amp and the Laney amp) and in the studio (SansAMP GT2) and at home (SansAMP GT2, too ;-). It's not a bad bass, but not as good as even Yamaha RBX 170. RBX 170 is available at similar price, but it's a FAR MORE BETTER BASS GUITAR.
...even noticed a famous guy in a very well known Polish metal band and he played that entry-level Yamaha live!
so - if you want to RELAX and play a bass guitar, buy Peavey Milestone 3. It looks great and very hot, it's also VERY COMFORTABLE GUITAR. but if you want to do something more in the future - buy Yamaha. especially if you're a crazy rock'n'roll guy.

A Polish dealer is VERY friendly. a real pro. nothing more to add here. he sold me quite good bass for my students for a good price.

used that bass for learning other bassists how to play and for some fun, too ;-). I liked it's metallic sound and the great apperance live. If you want to play a simple rock'n'roll or a typical hard rock and you're the beginner - that bass is just for you. but if you're searching for more, try Yamaha or Ibanez instead. for some folk-rock'n'roll and country the Squier Bronco is a far better bass guitar...
...but the Peavey Milestone isn't a bad bass. If you're seeking your own way in a music world - just try this bass. you won't be disappointed, when you're beginning your way.

It is a basic starter bass mine was made in indonesia (i think) it has 4 strings and 20 frets. It is traslucent teal with a whit pickguard. Passive J-Bass pickups and p-bass look it came with a gig bag (cheap and strap button made hole in it after a few months so i got a nice padded Ritter case got a short strap (replaced wiv a levi's)a lead and a package deal with a peavey microbass 2

It sound pretty good for the money especially through the peavey as they make good amps but i have recently just got a Ashdown Five Fifteen and it sounds amazing through there the single tone control has really only got 2 settings clean (very nice for heavier stuff) and rough (which is good for punk, slap and poping)

Mine came with fretbuzz on the second and fist frets on the e-string but that was easilly sorted with a bit of fiddling around the bolt on the jack was loose and i had to fish it out once because it fell inside and one of the pickups was quite high at one end but this was all easilly sorted

I think it will withstand live playing because it has been bashed about a bit being moved from house 2 skool 2 band practise in the cheap case and has only one small dent i have had 2 tune it once in 10 months and i would use it at a gig without backup because i havent got another bass but i am hoping to get a OLP MM-2 due to the sound it has in the reveiws and it is quite lite.

Pretty standard bass really. Volume controls for each pickup. Kind of a P-Bass shape, made of some really, really cheap wood. Felt like fibreboard when the strap holders came out by themselves....but otherwise standard for this sort of priced bass.

Not bad, not great. I have heard much worse but when I go into a music store and try other basses that were only a few hundred dollars more, I feel like crying because they are so much nicer. I play it through a Marshall B150, and it sounds decidedly average.

Action was perfect, the pickups were fine. Frets could be better quality. My big issue here is the useless wood. My strap buttons pretty much come out by themselves, the thread is gone and it seems to pour out sawdust when it happens. Seems like they used something really really cheap. The finish is really nice though and takes a hammering.
Oh, also the feeble input jack - crackles like mad now, a slight bump and it has gone wobbly, and I can't be bothered fixing it. The screws come out of the metal guard around the jack as well. I fixed this problem with my old friend duct tape.

It would withstand live playing, but would not sound good. The actual body and neck is very solid, it is just the small parts screwed into it that come out. I would probably just avoud this bass.

I'm in New Zealand, we don't bother dealing with the company itself down here. The shop gave me a 6 month warranty.

Sound is average, quality is poor. Can do much better for the same price with something like an Ibanez.

Fairly new. It says international series, so i bet it's not American. 20 fret bass with 4 strings. Peavey jazz pickups that offer a sort of thin sound, but sufficient for about a year or so. It's got a p-bass body with pointier horns. Excellent for anyone wanting a nice begginers bass.

It's tonal range isn't very wide. The pickups aren't really hot or anything. I play whatever I feel like. MMW, RHCP, and some Red Eye Gravey stuff is what i jam out on usually. The sound is great for somebody who wants to learn to play. I'm actually tired of the limited range of tone, so I'm replacing the factory pickups with some DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pickups. I really do like this bass though. I won't buy a different one for a few years probably.

Man, I couldn't ask for a bass to be set up any better. I've played on other Milestone IIIs at the music stores and the action on those basses seems too high. Mine came to me adjusted nearly perfectly. The pickups were flush with the neck and the poles don't stick out too far. I messed with the truss rod a bit because is was fretting out a little, but not too bad. Just enough to make me say, "damn, i need to do something about that." I recently took a trip to Cumming, Georgia and left the bass in the trunk of my car at home. The temperatures at home got up to around 95 degrees and some moisture got in there. I got home and found my pickups rusted and some of the pickguard screws the same way. I took it in, plugged it up, and it still sounded the same.

This bass has and will keep on withstanding live playing. Once I replace these pickups, the Peavey Milestone III will be a fine instrument for years to come. The strap buttons could use a little improving. I'll get a straplock system soon, so i won't worry about it. Highly, highly dependable bass. I left it in the elements and it still works well. I don't have a backup, so my options are limited. Even if I did, unless it was an Ernie Ball Stingray or something, this would be my main bass.

I really believe that this bass may outlive me if i keep taking care of it and as long as i keep it out of my trunk for prolonged periods of time. I love this thing to death. In fact, when I DO go to music stores and try out all the Fenders, Ibanezes, Pedulas and whatnot, I find myself picking up a Milestone III afterwords because it just feels right. The only two basses I would choose over this is this new Fender American J-Bass with active onboard electronics and, of course, the Ernie Ball Stingray. But, if got either one of those great instruments, I would never leave the Milestone neglected. To me, it's just as good of a bass as anything else out there.

im guessing it was made around 2001 as thats when i got it but im not sure and it was made in vietnam.its a 4 string with only 20 fretsand two j style pickups, passive. i went for the sunburst finnish with white fretboard. the style of the body is different from the usual fender style, more pointy, not as chunky, which is why i like it.
it has a jazz neck so its very thin at the top and the strings are fairly close together. rose wood fretboard.
its a nice size bass, not to big and chunky, but not too small and light so it feels like u could break it whislt slapping.
no accessories.

the sound is good for the price. it a great begginers guitar with a fairly good allround sound. however, it has its limitations as there is no eq and makes a rather annoying click every time the string hits the pickups, annoying for slap. there is one tone control and a volume controll for each pickup. generaly a bright sound, a good sound for bigginers, but has its limitations.

the action was a little high, but this was easily fixed.
the pickups were at a perfect hight, and the finnish wsa near perfect.
the only problem was that the machineheads were being pulled out, but again, this was easily fixed. all the controls where tight and there was no rattles.

ive used this on stage about 5 times and its been extremly reliable. nothing major has gone wrong. the strp buttone becam lose, but i fixed these using match sticks. as its a simple bass, not much can go wrong. its not really a gigging guitar as its really a bigginers, however its reliable enough not to need backup, it would make a good backup.

this is a great bigginers bass, it was my first and i still play it as much as my other. if thinking of buying a firts time bass, i higly recomend this, its simple, reliable and good value for money.

I use a 105Q Crybaby bass wha pedal. It flowed very well. I also use a BOSS Bass overdrive. You get feedback very easily. Hint: stand 200 yards away from amp when using overdrive!
Warm sound yet pretty thin.
There is not much variety. Strictly jazz sound style.
If you are going to use it use it for live proformances. Crowd won't notice the thin sounds as easily.
Overall like I said a nice starter bass.

Yes the bass is very reliabible! Nice add on. The truss rod is easily swayed but other then that very good. I don't like to use gig bags but with bad job... hey as good as it gets!

I've played it one year. I know not very long. But from how long I've had it it works well.

Made in Vietnam (2000?). 4-string jazz bass style with passive pickups; controls are individual volumes & a master tone. I played her with D'Addario strings and thru a fender bassman amp (8'). Glossy classic red finish of unknown composition. 3-ply plastic pickguard. Wood appears to be compressed sawdust, not the best... Rosewood fretboard with 20 frets (not 21...ignore the website!). Plastic nut & stamped steel bridge. I don't know what the tuners were, but they worked smashingly. The body has a phat extended upper horn that balances the bass out nicely. A fine looking bass.

I play pretty much anything, funk a la Chili Peppers, rock, jazz, blues, you name it. Although the range isn't fantastic, the two volume controls give a workable palette of sounds, but you have to use 'em both equally to cancel hum. Like this, the bass sounds quite warm and friendly. You can't really use the pickups totally separately... although with the bridge mostly pu soloed you can get a decent grimey sound. The tone control is pretty much useless, anything over the max cut (i.e. minimum treble) gives horrible feedback and static, so I stick to the amp for EQ'ing. On the plus side, you can coax some purty harmonics out of her. Nothing earth-shattering, but alright nonetheless considering the price.

The setup was pretty when I bought her. The neck was way out of whack and needed some tighening. Even after 2 years, I couldn't get the action as low as I needed. The bridge seemed solid. A number of screws were missing from the pickguard, and the jack plate was falling out of the bass. I wasn't overly impressed, but it was all fixable with some bigger screws, glue, and toothpicks. Anyways, what do you expect for an <$300 bass? I opened her up one day and found the wiring was still secure, and the solder looked well applied. I was less than ecstatic about the wood though. There was ALOT of sawdust inside her...what a shame! On the plus side, after 3 years the finish still looks brand new (except for where my fingernails ground it away!).

Although I only played the bass once or twice live, I'm confident it would hold up regularly, if only because there are so few electronics & hardware to break down! Besides that, the bass stayed in tune forever and withstood a fair amount of abuse. I'd probably gig without a backup, but it's a moot point now since I've already sold her! The back strap button was also falling out when I bought the guitar, not great, but again easily repairable. All in all, the bass was quite reliable...

Overall, I'd say this is an excellent starter bass, which is exactly what I bought it as. Considering the dirt cheap price I paid, I'd actually say this bass is quite undervalued. Yes, the electronics and construction aren't the greatest, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter since it sounded great. One negative point would be the savage ridge of wood at the 14 fret (back of the neck) and super thick neck joint on the body, which made playing any higher painful & impossible. I've been playing for about 3 years, and this bass amply covered all my playing needs. It's also wicked for slapping & popping. Unfortunately, I had to sell her when I upgraded to a Warwick rockbass, but I'll have many fond memories of my trusty Peavey. So, enough beating around the bush... overall I'd give a 7 for this guitar, but if you consider the price and other basses of far worse quality I've seen, well, I'd have to give her a...

It's a Jazz-bass configuration, 34" scale, Maple Neck/ rosewood fretboard. sunburst. Quiet electronics. Plays very comfortable. Very Low weight. Extreme good bass for the beginner!!!

Reasonable slap-tone.

All Ok but the output jack's nut gets loose sometimes, but thats easily fixed with a drop of locktite (same for the srew I mentioned below).

Currently I bought a Yamaha BBG5A and I discovered that this bass stays in tune much better. But: I'll keep my Peavey for backup or when I have to practice a whole day (yamaha is much heavier)

Except for the screw/nut I mentioned (which was easily fixable so don't bother!): It's a peavey! I also own a peavey amplifier and an electric guitar (wolfgang EVH with floyd rose).
The amplifier is really great I threw it from 3 meters high (It fell of the stage) It's got lots of beer in it. I put it in a shed for 3 years and it still works as if it were new.

Recently, I discovered that I lost a screw from the bridge. I guess it's got loose due to vibrations. One e-mail was enough for peavey. They were kind enough to send me the right part rightaway.

I've been playing guitar for 20 years. For 2 months I've started playing bass (black gospel music). This is a very nice bass to start with. As I'm learning fast/practiced a lot, I bought a Yamaha bbg5a This is more quality, more strings, but also more money. (The store didnot have peavey.) But I'll keep this bass for shure!

Same features as everybody else said... so if you wanna know the specifics look in some of the reviews below. The only thing that I don't think they mentioned was the wood the body is made out of. It is sort of a plywood looking thing. I realized it when I had taken off the pickguard to clean the pots because they started to crackle, and it is about like 20 plys, but it sounds darn good.

I think this thing sounds pretty dang good for the price. It's a pretty cheap bass, but I like how versitile it is, I keep my amp settings the same, and just play with the knobs to get different tones, like going from alice cooper and black sabbath, to megadeth and metallica, all in the turning of some knobs.

The bass was just fine when I got it. Only problem is the damn jack and strap buttons. The jack always comes loose, and I always have to tighten it, only problem is when I turn the little thing, it turns the jack and slowly twists the wires, and at one point I accidently went to far, and during one time practicing with my band, it just twisted itself too far and during a song it let loose, the ground went out and my bass shocked me. I solved that with a lock washer, the strap buttons though always come a little loose then they rotate and squeke which isn't a big deal, it just bugs the hell out of me, i guess I should glue them, but oh well. Other than that it's just fine though.

This thing could outlast anything, nuclear war, a sledgehammer, being thrown at amps at the end of a show. Mine doesn't even have a scratch on it and it's been through some stuff. The finish is tough as nails, I would definately use it without a backup.

I think this is actually a pretty great bass for the price, and i like it a lot.

Made in 2000, 22 frets, four strings, individual pickup controls and overall tone, groovy looks, nice thin neck(a bit long maybe). I managed to get a lead and a strap with mine. I'd advise you to get a gig bag. I had to buy mine seperately for 30 quid.

Sounds really great. Tone controlis pretty basic though and I always have it wound down on minimum. Take ages to come out of tune and when it does the HUGE pegs make it easy to remedy. Can sound really thrashy and harsh or nice and melodic.

All the screws holding in the scratch-guard are in at angles. Also the screw holding in the strap button pulled out after acouple of weeks. I advice you replace this needle-like piece ofapparatus with something a bit more formiddable. Pickups were'nt done up either. Pretty shoddily made actually. However with a bit of spanner-wangling theseproblems were soon sorted (except the scratch-guard screws, the idiots at Peavey have stripped the threads)

Its had one BIG smash on the floor and a tiny chip came out of the back which I just glued up and now looks ok.Apart from that it is rock solid.Certainly would withstand playing live,no need for a backup.

Have'nt needed them

I haven't been playing long and this is my first bass but I would certainly recommend it to anybody starting out or even experienced players. It looks great and comes in loads of funky colours, geat value as well. Just have a screwdriver handy when you first buy it.

I think My Peavey Milestone III is a 2002 model ( i bought it new in 2002) it has 20 frets and has 4 strings. My bass was made in Vietnam.
This bass has 2 seperate volume knobs 1 for each pickup and 1 master tone knob. It has 2 Jazz bass style pickups. I am not sure about what type of wood its made out of because the sales person didnt know but it sounds nice. It has a sparkle Blue finish and has a jazz/pbass style body. the brige is like a regular bass brige. it is not string thru. The tuners are great, they usually stay in tune alot. the neck is nice and thin, and isnt too long.

This bass is great for me because i am a guitarist who wanted a bass to fill in bands who needed a bass player. i just use a peavey minx110 amp with it which has great sound (10 inch speaker). It can get any sound you want just play with the knobs. i think this bass is great for both studio and stage.

The action was a bit high when i got it but the pickups were ajusted well. the only flaws i found were that the screws that screw in the pick guard to the body were very poorly screwed in, some were screwed in at angles.

I have played live with it many times and it is great. the hardware is strong, the finish is really strong, i bashed it alot and i have no scratches or anything yet. the strap buttons are solid but can be a bit better, i have to depened on it because its my only bass

I dont know about the Factory set up. it was set up by the store I bought it. set up was fine. I just had to tighten the neck a bit,but no further problems.The only thing that bothered me were the loose screws of the strap buttons and the bridge. i took em out and glued them back in :) .Finish looks just Fine.

everything seems very reliable on this Bass. I tend to change basses while gigging,so i always have a back up.I'm not sure the strap buttons will hold, but so far so good :) anything else is A ok!

A very shoddy, cheap, wear-and-tear bag was included which finally fell apart a few weeks ago, but it did last two odd years. A very good green Pirahna concert series lead.

It does suit our music style very well. It can be heavy and chugging when I want it to be, and also I can play quickly and make lots of runs of a scalic nature on it, because it's got such a playable neck and very good action.

A classic!!!! A very old, very loud SoundCity combo from possibly the late 70s. Purchased second hand from some bloke in Brora in Scotland. The bass/organ channel is fine, guitar channel produces a horrible whine so we don't use it.

A Zoom 505, very old and slightly temperamental. The right hand side pedal takes a good whack before it changes, but the left one is still fine. I use mainly a clean signal but when needed I have the option of distortion or subtle phasing. The Zoom itself is extremely noisy, particularly put through DI boxes for a PA system. The bass is not noisy. It only rattles if the keyring is positioned wrongly.

The sound is not of any particular specification, but it is a very good middly sound, which I like. It's best to use the pickups together, through a Trace/Elliott bass amp it was booming and filled a room nicely.

John Saich of Celtic group Capercaillie has said that it sounds fantastic when recorded, praising it for its "metallic" sound. Live, it really cooks, particularly for rock music!!

No dislikes, it's very very hardy stock even though it doesn't look it!!

The action was fine when it came out of the shop, not high, but not too low either, as to produce rattle. The finish was in mint condition also. As expected from a new bass, there was nothing wrong with it when it was first purchased. Again, any flaws that followed were caused by myself rocking a bit too hard.

This bass does withstand live playing of very different kinds. Celtic music and rock music. For rock music, it has a very exciting sound, and for Celtic music, it for some reason, it has a really laid back quality. I am impressed with its live capabilities.

I am starting to take more care of it that I used to, so certainly I think that the hardware will last a lot longer than it would have had I still been hurling it around the place.

Compared to my bandmate's Squier strat which seems to have quite a similar finish, there's hardly a blemish. We both play hard, his guitar, although considerably older, has a lot of dents and ruptures. On my bass I can only see one crack/dent and some scratches near the bottom. There are a couple of chips in the neck, but it hasn't affected the intonation at all.

The strap buttons were the only problem to begin with. We had to glue them back in which is probably a sign that the body wood isn't all that good quality, despite the amazing sound that this bass makes.

The truss rod has only had to be adjusted once, to straighten a bow in the neck, which was making the strings at the first to fourth frets rattle badly, making it unplayable. This was probably due to myself, but the service was extremely reasonable, only #10 to repair the damage.

Every gig I've played so far I've had a backup but I've not had to use it for any songs. I am considering buying a second bass, and it'll depend on which one I prefer. Maybe one bass should take charge for Celtic and one for rock, or both in equal proportion. Certainly, a second bass would be given a run for its money by this one.

The Inverness Music Station was where I bought this bass, for an extremely good bargain price of #145, plus cable and bag. They have been also my most constant supplier of new strings, which are generally good quality, particularly Trace Elliott and Elites from the Player series, of which either Light or Medium gauge seems to suit me very nicely.

The truss rod repairs however, were made at the Music Shop in Inverness for the aforementioned very reasonable price.

I have been playing this bass for about two and a half years. As a true alternative rocker, I have been a hard player, and I have to report that the loss of a tuning peg, one broken string and a bow in the neck is a fairly insignificant amount of damage. It has been thrown about, knocked over and given a wild ride, but it's survived brilliantly. I also love the way it plays for more mild-mannered music like traditional Scottish. It has been an excellent purchase.

It's my first bass and i like it very much. The neck is really thin as so is really easy to play.

I'm a beginner in bass-playing, put i play mostly blues and rock, and i try some funk and jazz too. The sound is ok, but sometimes i'd like a little more 'punch'... but it seems that the biggest problem is not the bass but my fingers (and the strings) ! So i'll have to improve my technique.
I use it on a peavey minx 110 (1x10'', 35W) amp without any effect.
The single coil PU are pretty silent, even when using only one of them. Usually i use only one PU (the one closer to the neck) as it sounds better that way in my ears... tone fully on 'bass'

The set-up was ok, no flaws

The strap buttons and the jack became loose, but screwing them back in solved the problem...'till next time ;-)
For the rest everything seems fine.

When i bought it (new) it came with a one-year warranty and a 'purchaser' card. When i sent the card back i became a member of Peavey's European User's Group, and the warranty was extended to 3 years.
Otherwise i didn't have to deal with the company, and i probably won't need to.

I'm playing for a little more than half a year now. This is my first and only bass.
I dream owning a 5-string warwick thumb and and (electro-)acoustic bass. But if this one would get stolen, i would buy it again, even if i would own a warwick... it's just a great bass for beginners and really easy to play. And it will stay a great bass for relaxed playing even when i won't be a beginner anymore.
When i bought it i compared it to a Mexican serie Fender Jazz, but for more than twice the price it had nothing more, and didn't sound better. And the Peavey's thin neck just felt better for a beginner.

This bass is pretty standard. I believe that it is a 2000 model. It has two pickup volume knobs and a tone knob. Passive J-pickups. 21 frets. The same as all the other reviews. It isn't the most featuresome bass, but I actually like it better than some of the more featuresome basses because they lack character. It has all the feature a real bass player needs.

The Peavey Milestone III sounds pretty good for the money. It is far supirior to and Squires or low end Ibaneses. I play it through a 2000 Fender Bassman 100, and it sounds OK. My major complaint is that some of the pots make some noise, but that can be cured. If your looking for a bass that will have jaw-dropping tone, this isn't it. It sounds very generic. You can get pretty much any style out of it. I generally play rock and jazz, and it gets the job done pretty well.

I hated the factory set-up when I got this bass. The action was much to high for me, and the strings needed to be replaced with some higher quailty ones. After making a few adjustments though it worked fine. The finish is amazing for the price. I have a dark blue Milestone III, and it is flawless. It has been everywhere and banged around a lot, and it looks just as it did when I bought it. I've had this bass for a little over a year now, and the pots are starting to crack when I turn them. I'm going to fix that soon. Hopefully it isn't going to be an ongoing problem.

I've played live with this bass quite a lot, and it has performed great. I haven't had any problems with it yet. The finish and hardware are tough as nails. The only problem I have had is the plug keeps coming loose, but it is easily screwed back in. I've been gigging without a backup for quite some time and haven't had any problems. This used to be my backup bass, but I needed some money and sold my Fender Standard Jazz.

Haven't had to deal with them yet.

I've been playing guitar for 5 years and bass for 3, and of all of the basses that I've owned, this one was the best value. I've owned much better sounding basses, but they were much more expensive. If it were stolen, I would most likely buy a new Jazz bass, but if I were on a tight budged I would most definitly buy it again. I tried many other comparably priced basses when I bought this one, and it sounded and played the best of the bunch. If your looking for a fist bass or even just a cheap bass to beat up on the road this one will get the job done.

I think mine was made in Korea, it has 3 knobs - 2 pickup volume knobs and one tone. Passive electronics (well what do you expect for this price). There's not much more I oculd want feature-wise, these pickups are my favourite configuration, thats why I chose the milestone III.
Only compaint would be the 21 frets...to play the intro to Aeroplane perfectly you need 22...so jus that one little note is a dense thud.....

NOt bad at all. Great value. PLaying through my Marshall B150 amo I can get a very nice slap sound, but the other end of the scale is a bit furry-sounding, I usually leave the tone knob all the way to treble.
Putting it through my Zoom 506II pedal I can get some nice sounds (reverb, defret, slap settings), but also some really really bad ones (distortion, liquid sound).

The action was a bit low when I got it, but I fixed that up and it sounds nice. The pickups are fine. The only flaw is that the frets up above 12 are not that accurate.....
The finish is really quite beautiful, I have metallic blue, and it is one of the nicer colours I have seen on a bass. Flawless finish, except around where the neck joins the body.

Well the damn jack keeps coming loose, just need to turn that, and that DUMB LITTLE PLATE around it comes loose - I have a feeling that if I keep screwing it back in the thread is gonna disappear in the wood and its gonna fall out.
Everything else seems solid.
