Solid product. Well built. I use mostly to play in a bar band but also do some home studio recording. Love the tone and playability. Can't beat it for the price.

Sound : 8
Good sound. I play through an older Fender bass amp and I think this bass carries it's weight. we play mostly rock..Floyd to DMB and it rocks across the board.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Comfortable to play even standing for long periods. Good action. Great bass for the price.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Very reliable. I play in bars so the bass gets beat up a little. Packing the car unpacking, set uop, sound check, the random drunk who can't keep his distance etc./

Overall Rating : 9
Overall I love this bass. Wether home recording or jamming w/ the guys at a local bar it sounds great and for the price I don't have to worry about it every second I play out. Also comfortable to play standing or sitting.

Mine was made in China, got it this year 2008 off ebay, new still boxed. Hell of a bargin. 4 strings fretted, volume knob for each pickup and a tone knob. Nice quilt-top tiger eye finish, looks great.
Original Peavey pickups sound great and punchy through my ancient Peavey Combo 300 amp. Jazz style baody and super skinny neck, if you like Peavey Jazz Bass necks you will LOVE this neck. BTW this bass is my back up as I normally play my '67 reissue Fender Jazz. Good tuners, string thru body set up is reliable. Stays in tune well.

Sound : 10
My bands do anything from Chicago Blues / Funk / Reggae / to Southern and Classic Rock. Cuts through and has enough tone to stand out in a band situation. Great bass for a beginner or someone who would rather not gig with their more expensive axes. Good punchy tone especially with both volume knobs on ten. Backing off the volume even slightly loses a lot of tone and volume. In fact I might even suggest replacing the pots with something a little better.
Good for live gigs, light weight wouldn't use it in studio because I've got a great Fender Jazz Bass. I love the "non-glossy" finish on the neck....

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Pretty good set up straight out of the box. Did some intonation set up on top two strings... easy and it worked perfectly. Only flaws for me are the volume and tone knobs... I'd suggest even brand new lubricating and cleaning the pots immediately.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Seems well made. I just throw it in a gig bag and don't worry much about it. I'm a Peavey Amp guy from waaaaaaaaay back. My 1982 Peavey combo 300 has a million mile on it and cannot be killed! Have not had to adjust the neck yet... action is good and low and it plays like butter. I would use it for a gig with no worries, especially if I had to take it on a plane and check it. I will NEVER take my Fender on a flight again. I suggest a hard case for sure if you are flying or traveling with it.

No issues yet for Customer support. But Peavey is a great company to do business with. Based in Mississippi and run by "good ole boys".

Overall Rating : 10
Been a professional bassist for 28 years. I love Fender Jazz Basses and this Peavey is a great alternative for less money. I would buy another one I think. I got this one so cheap it was ridiculous...
shipping included brand new in the box I paid 210 bucks. Love the weight of it (very light), not crazy about the volume and tone pots but no big deal to replace, favorite feature for me is the size of the neck and the easy action. Great bass for the money NO Doubt.

Looks to be made in Indonesia, string-thru body, nice thin neck, very easy to play and extremely light weight compared to other basses. Two pickups with independent volume controls for each, this is possibly the only thing that I don't care for much about it.

Sound : 9
I play rock and metal and this bass has the right kind of punchiness to compete with the other instruments. Smooth strong sound with very little buzzing. I noticed that the volume controls on the pickups need to exactly on the same page, or you need to have the neck pickup volume killed to completely escape the buzzing, but it's so minor an issue you may not notice it anyway. Slapping and popping cut through with awesome clarity, and regular fret-work sounds beautiful. The rosewood fretboard is very smooth and is incredibly forgiving during bends and slides.
If I were to do anything to modify the sound I would replace the pickups with some EMGs and/or get some flatwound strings.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
From the day I got it I never saw any significent flaws in the construction of the instrument. It was playable from the getgo, and hasn't caved once. Looks stunning with the quilted top that scintilates slightly in good stage light.

Reliability/Durability : 9
My only complaint about its reliability is that I need to retune it after a song, but this is ok considering how much abuse I put it through during a set. With this same thing in mind I feel it's worth mentioning that it has never completely broken down on me ever. I've gone through good cables before the sound or construction even began to cave, which hasn't happened yet and it doesn't look like it will any time soon.

Haven't needed 'em yet.

I've been playing for almost six years now, and i'm impressed. I wasn't sure what to expect, seeing as it was my first Peavey. I was already pretty familiar with thier bass amps, but never had I tried one of thier actual basses.
If it were stolen I would make it my mission to hunt down who ever stole it and destroy them! If I needed to I would be quick to buy another, except I might get a five-string in another color just to be different, the whole while hoping the Millennium 5 BXP is just as good.
It has the best features for a beginner bass the whole while containing enough power and character to please some pros. I think it's real significent draw back is the fact that it doesn't have any extreme features to make it a professional studio bass, but if it did you would be paying a whole lot more for it. It does make an excellent live item, though. As it stands this is quite possibly, in my opinion, the best bass you can get for under $300.

Its a standard jazz-style bass. Has a rosewood fretboard and a basswood body with a quilted maple top. String-thru body, which is kinda cool. It looks like a polyurethane high-gloss finish.

Sound : 8
Sounds great...the low e is a little boomy compared to the mids and highs, but I kinda like that. The bridge pickup is great for rock songs and the middle pickup sounds nice and warm. When you crank the amp there is hum if you only use one pickup.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Real nice, low action...easy to play. No flaws in finish except tbe quilted maple isnt that noticeable and basswood has a reputation for denting easily, so I am extra careful. The plus is that basswood is very light so its easy to play standing up.

Peavey Mill. BXP 4. I think it is made in Korea. Nice slim neck. Fast action and very playable. the quilt top is to die for. Looks great. The pickups are very generic. Jazz set up. The other reviews give specs well.

I paid $179 online from a music store in Mississippi. I live in St. Louis. I noticed that the day after I bought it they changed their website to $229. Steal.

Sound : 9
One of the things I particularly like is that it is comfortable for me to play. Nice balance. Not too heavy. I play CCM and some old-time gospel (root-fifth, root-fifth, repeat over and over again). I do notice that the two pickup controls need to be pretty much the same otherwise there is a hum. I use pretty cheap gear all around. Behringer amp. But it sounds good. the lower strings and notes sound better than the higher ones. My bandmate says the low E sounds great. he actually writes stuff with more Es in it so he gets that sound. I get the sense that it does not like worn strings very well at all. I mean to say that slightly worn strings sound pretty bad. I changed them often. I use DR high beams but the next pair will be a brighter string.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
It was play and go right out of the box. I had a good adjustment done on it and all is well. My guitar service guy did suggest that I might want to get the nut changed out sometime in the future. I have also been thinking of different pickups that might be a little punchier.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Rock solid and all is good. I play weekly and never have a prob with it. It really is quite good.

Haven't needed any.

I have been playing for 5 years and work very hard at it. I would definitely replace if it were stolen though I might go active.
When I bought this bass I literally tested dozens of basses in every price range up about $700 and for me this was the bass that seemed to fit me the best. Now, I want everyone to know that when I found the bass for $179 I did go back to my local store and asked them if they could budge on their price of $239 to even come down some to make it worth my while to buy local. They would not.

I got this bass new by mail order its a 2006,it says its handcrafted in Indonesia, its a 21 fret 4 string, its got the quilted top,it has a single tone control & a volume control for each pickup,I'm going to get this changed to 1 volume & a pickup blender control,it has a basswood body & a rockmaple neck its finish is sunburst, looks great with the quilt top,the string thru body is a nice touch, tuners are unnamed but hold tune no prob, the neck is nice & slim & tapers by at least an inch from nut to body,it cane with a short leed & allenkey & trusrod wrench.

Sound : 10
the sound on this bass is superb, the whole band commented how well it cut thr. the range of sounds is really good from cutting treble to vertibrate rattling bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
upon taking the bass out of the box I noticed how well it was set up,so just pluged in & away I went, having now giged it I might be tempted to lower the action slighty, and will be replacing the factory fitted strings,I've only found 1 slight mark on body, but hey it is a budget priced bass !( its going to a lot more !!)

Reliability/Durability : 9
I feel that this bass will give me a long trouble free life, the hardware seems solid enough the body finish looks nice and thick, the strap buttons will be replaced with lockers !! don't trust the standard buttons, but these do look solid & large, there is even a piece of felt between them & the body, nice touch peavey !!this will be my only bass.

Customer Support : 7
don't know about warranty as brought mailorder but would imagine peavey would not let you down.

Overall Rating : 10

Peavey 4 string BXP Made in China, long scale with quilt top, jazz type pick ups and passive controls, maple neck and rosewood fretboard. In 2003 I bought it for the looks and couldn't believe I got the salesman to let me have it for $210.00 plus tax and got a gig bag!

Sound : 10
Played in a live top fory cover band with usual the hum and noise in the P.A. plus the personal monitors 2- 2x10 & 1- Carlson by Acoustic B115 powered by Hartke. The sound is mellow and beats out 90% of all basses I have tried out from $200 to $1,200. I felt like that I saved
enough on the initial purchase that I would put ELIXIR strings and EMG selects on my BXP and now I feel it is complete. The neck and bridge are great and fully adjustable. To be honest the machine heads need to be improved due to the fact I play hard and usually tune up twice per set.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Action & fit- you'll need to tweak it (not that unusual in this land anymore)

Reliability/Durability : 9
This bass is built well and my old standard G&L SB1 since 1985
is now a backup and needs the rest anyway.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The warranty probably was 1 or 3 years, but I doubt if I'll really need that anyway. My contact would be my local dealer who is reliable
and honest.

Overall Rating : 9
I bought it for looks and feel. I like to adjust necks and bridges to suit my favorite string gauges and this BXP is perfect for that.
I wish that Peavey would put this one out with a maple fretboard and single humbucker (passive of course).

I'm not sure what year, but by the name, I'd guess sometime near 2000. I bought it it 2002. I also don't know where it was made, but I think Korea or Japan. 4 string bass with 21 frets. The bass has a quilt top. It has master tone, and front/rear pickup volumes, these are very responsive and you can tweak your sound how you want to. The pickups are stock, standard jazz configuration, passive. They are noise cancelling and are very quiet. The body is made of basswood, neck maple, and rosewood fingerboard. It's got string-thru bridge and stock (brandless, as far as I can tell) tuners. I bought it at a store, not online, and they gave me a bunch of stuff, so I don't know if it comes with accessories or not, but i dont think so.

Sound : 8
I play lots of genres, not really anything in particular. It seems equally suited for all styles of music. Slapping/popping/hammering all are easy and sound great. I'm running it directly through a Peavey 60 watt amp and occasionally a Boss Overdrive pedal and its always sounded good (until my cable started to crap out, but this isn't the basses fault). It came with light guage roundwound strings, which i replaced with medium Fender flatwounds, which sound warm and rich but I would definitely replace the stock strings. I like the sound it makes when the tone is all the way up and just the bridge pickup. It's great for jazz and funky playing.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The people at the store set it up for me and I wasn't involved at all, so about the action I don't really have an opinion. The fretwire was put in great. It doesn't stick over the edge at all and i've only moved the trussrod once since i got the bass about two years ago. I think a control post is just now starting to come loose, but not a serious issue at all. This played great as soon as i got it home.

Reliability/Durability : 7
All of the hardware and parts seem to be very solidly built. I got it with a transparent blue finish. I have nicked it with my watch and belt buckle a couple times and scratched it, but this doesn't hinder playing. The strap buttons are firmly rooted in and i havent had any problems with them. Like I said, I've only adjusted the trussrod once and that was after a period of massive climate change. My friends have dropped it and hit it against objects (on accident, of COURSE) and it looks, feels, and plays fine. I would definitely use it without a backup in its present condition.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had a complaint, so I don't know anything about how helpful they'd be.

Overall Rating : 10
For the price, I'd say this is a quiet, solidly built, great sounding instrument. I've been playing this for a few years now, and I've never had any major complaints. I've played standard "beginner" basses and even some nicer ones but this sounds the best for the price. It's worth the extra money if you're a beginner, and if youre not, you can save some money by getting this. I would probably buy this again, although i now play fretless and 5 string. I compared this to the standard beginner instruments... a squier, some ibanez basses etc. I liked the features the quality of the worksmanship, and the price. It kind of was the best of all worlds. I guess I wish I'd asked which knob was which because I finally found out about 3 months ago. I wish it had a 5th string. There is a 5 string model available. If you are looking for a great bass for a fair price BUY IT!!!

Basswood body, bolt-on maple neck w/ rosewood fingerboard. Passive electronics: two jazz bass pickups, two volume controls, one tone. Well balanced and LIGHT.

Sound : 10
I play mostly R&B/funk/jazz. I prefer the sound of a passive bass and this is the best sounding one I have ever owned. It's got bite, growl, and a solid low end and midrange... If you have a good amp, the sound of this bass will cut through any band. Personally, I hate separate volume controls for each pickup so I rewired it with a blend pot and master volume control. This muddied up the sound, which is why I bought this bass in the first place, so I rewired it again. Now both pickups are wired to one volume pot (like a big humbucker) I removed the tone control (never use it on a passive bass anyway) and added a series/parallel switch. Now I don't have to fiddle with two volume controls, plus the series/parallel switch lets me switch from a classic jazz bass sound to a fatter, more p-bass sound when needed.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 2
LOUSY! I have a Millenium 5 BXP which is put together WAY better than this bass. They must be made in different locations. I bought mail-order from American Musical Supply and the first one I received was completely unplayable due to an s-curve in the neck. This one was unplayable until I leveled the frets. I STRONGLY recommend you buy one of these from a dealer where you can play it first. On the other hand, the finish on the body is flawless and the satin neck is beautiful, except for the rough fretwork on the edges of the fingerboard. The cheap plastic nut makes the e-string sound weak in the open position. I will have to replace it eventually because I find myself avoiding the low E when performing because that note doesn't sound as incredible as the rest of the bass. The strings seem to catch on the plastic string-tree when tuning and I will probably replace it with a roller-type.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've been playing it live for a couple of months with no problems. I never bring a backup bass.

Customer Support : 5
No warranty service center nearby, which is why I fixed the frets myself.

Overall Rating : 7
Been playing for about 25 years. Other instruments: 1982 Ibanez Musician neck-through, component-built P-Bass with a P-J setup, 2004 Millennium 5 BXP, Swingmaster upright bass. I would replace this if it were lost, but I would buy one from a store where I could play it, first.
