2000 model in transparent Green with flame maple top, alder body, birds eye maple neck with pau ferro fingerboard. 35 inch scale with 22 frets. Made in USA with Hipshot tuners and bridge.

I had a regular Millennium 4 string years ago that was a great bass. Since I started playing 5 strings again I was lucky enough to find a 5 Plus. I play in a cover/show band and the bass is perfect for all styles of music. My preferred tone is the bridge pickup soloed with treble at flat and a bit of bass boost. I dial the mid knob so I can get a great classic Alnico Music Man bass tone. I string through the body with DR Hi Beam .120 - .040 stainless.

I bought the bass used and it cleaned up nicely. Had to loosen the truss rod 1/2 turn to get the action suitable. Everything is top notch on the bass and it plays like butter.

18 volt active system is dead quiet. The hardware is top notch. The only issue I had was a stripped strap button that was a quick fix. I use it regularly without a backup bass.

Simply the best customer service around. No other mass manufacture company can compare.

Used. USA Made. Bought this bass slightly over a year ago. No accessories or case. Haven't yet called Peavey, with the S/N, to find out date of manufacture. Will do so someday. Features are consistent with all the other reviews. 35" scale neck. Flamed maple top (tiger maple?), Beautiful burst finish (Amber burst? Not sure of the precise term). All Black hardware. Active pickups, 18V. Quick-loading bridge. Glossy finish on the body. Cleaned up nicely.
It was obvious that it had been thoroughly used, so I evaluate it in that context. Had a minor scratch or two, and one or two chips in the finish, that had been touched up. This thing is a workhorse. Unless you get very up close and personal, it's appearance is strikingly gorgeous. For it to still look so nice, after having been around the block a number of times, I'm sure it was perfection when new.
Has a narrow neck pickup and wide bridge pickup, what I think are referred to as jazz and MM.
Has a birdseye maple neck, which helped it stand out somewhat. I embarked on some minor refurbishment of it, some TLC. I thoroughly cleaned the fretboard, which was kind of grubby. Removed the bridge, and cleaned crud out of it. Repainted the bridge back to solid black again. A previous owner had apparently installed some inferior tuning machines (one turned the wrong way), so I purchased and installed some new Hipshot tuners. I also installed Schaller strap locks. Now it looked awesome. Playable, but not perfect.
So, after a year I, took it to my neighborhood guitar performance shop, to get the intonation adjusted, frets leveled, and neck adjusted. I had previously installed Peavey Cirrus strings. Wasn't happy with them. Too bright. Wasn't easy to get all-around classic bass sounds from them. So I had my tech install some Rotosound flatwound strings. Now it is absolutely awesome!!! In every way. Looks, action, sound. It's my all-around go-to bass.
Sound
:10
With the right strings, this instrument is awesome. For me, these strings are the flatwound Rotosound strings. An excellent variety of sounds with the three EQ knobs, including variable midrange via the concentric knob. No noise.
Action, Fit, & Finish

I acquired it used, so can't speak for the factory setup. The playing action was originally extremely low. Crazy low. But in kind of a good way. After I changed the action, during my cleaning phase, and installed new strings, etc., it developed a minor buzz on the D string. Still playable. No one but me would likely have noticed. I recently had it totally professionally set up, and now the action is just right. Low and comfortable. No string buzz. The entire neck is playable. Impeccable.
The body has string holes drilled through it (behind the bridge), but the bridge does not have compatible holes to pass the strings through. So I originally thought the bridge had been replaced by a previous owner, but it's the same bridge that's on my Peavey Cirrus, so I suspect it's the original bridge. Or am I mistaken? Anyway, it's a quality, heavy-duty bridge. I replaced the screws when I reinstalled it (with just slightly larger diameter), and it's locked down solid. I had wanted to set it up string-through body, and I could have, but though it may have required drilling some different holes through the back plate of the bridge. But when I realized the advantage of the quick-loading string slots in the bridge, I decided that was preferable than string-through body.
Reliability/Durability
:10
This thing is a rock! Alder body, right? Maple face. Maple neck. Totally solid. Gives me the confidence that it doesn't have to be coddled in the least. Since I'm not going to abuse or neglect it, it's going to last forever!
The only parts I can see possibly failing someday would be the pots, with the moving parts.
The original straplocks were solid and big enough to be reliable. But I always use straplocks, so I replaced them with Schallers, my preferred type.
Customer Support
:10
Not under warranty, of course. So most of this category does not apply. However, I contacted the company (Peavey) before, in regard to my Cirrus bass, and they quickly responded via e-mail, with the helpful information. I appreciate that, as I hate being ignored when I submit a polite, respectful request (as has happened with at least one other U.S. company).

I've been playing bass for about six years. Guitar somewhat longer. I started on an inexpensive (but good) Korean bass. This was my first pro-quality bass (actually, one of two). Because of my high standards (some people think I'm too picky, when it comes to the state my instruments), I felt obliged to "fix it up" a bit, but that was simply to restore it to closer to its own original state. How dare someone remove its original tuning machines? Although, every time I tune those Hipshots, I am pleased with their turning smoothness and precision. Mmmmm.... Also, I'm not really upset, because I got the Millennium for a good price (fair market value, not a bargain), considering its age and condition.
As an aside, I purchased a used Peavey 5-string Cirrus at virtually the same time (a result of the same instrument search). I like how the 5-string Cirrus and 5-string Millennium are so similar, but distinct. Definitely siblings. Even the body shape is similar. The instruments are the same size and weight, so far as i can tell. They are made from different woods, and have similar but not identical pickups. Different strings. And possibly best, the Cirrus has neck-through-body construcdtion, while the Millennium Deluxe has a bolt-on neck. I've got the best of both worlds. The Millenium is a better all-around instrument for me, because of the classic tones it freely provides. The Cirrus's tone is more sharp and cutting; I think that's considered to be a more "modern" tone, although I'm not experienced enough to say with absolute confidence. I think a lot of that tone is due to the nickel Cirrus strings. I'm tempted to try some of those flat tapewound strings on the Cirrus, to see what kind of tone it develops then.
Since I paid extra for the preferred strings, tuning machines, and pro setup, I don't consider the value to be outstanding. But still good.

Undisclosed manufacturing date known or supplied. Originally purchased in February 2004 from Peavey dealer, I purchased this bass on Ebay just a few days prior. This is a 5 string Peavey Millenium USA made instrument with the following boasting qualities: Satin coated Birdseye maple neck with 21 medium frets, Rudy Red Alder body with a Tiger Maple top (1/4" thick), Hipshot bridge with unknown string tuners, "MM" bridge pickup, "J" style neck pickup, 18v preamp, original molded case and strap locks included with purchase as well.
Sound
:7
Since purchased just a few days ago, it's apparent that this bass possesses many various playing styles and can adapt to both player or room. I personally am a working musician playing on cruise liners, weddings, country gigs, and Broadway shows, with many published records to my resume.
This bass is a little too midrange for my taste which is mainly due to its weight. If this bass was heavier (larger body), it would cover the bottom end so much better. The onboard 18v preamp and electronics are the quietest I've heard in a long time.
My working amplifier includes the following:
Mesa Boogie 400 PLUS head with an 18" inch sub coupled with Hartke Attack 4 - 10 top. No effects are utilized or needed in my venues.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:6
I purchased this bass on EBAY as a PREOWNED instrument. So I don't know how it actually arrived from the factory. Both pick-ups were adjusted perfectly in my opinion and did not opt to change the height placement.
String height happens to be a problem with this instrument. With the string saddles at zero level (as low as possible), and the neck also at zero level (as straight as possible, without bow), the string height is quite higher than it should be. String height is a personal issue, however this issue should be able to also be at zero level if desired by player, meaning if you desire a low action string playability, you should be able to adjust it accordingly.
The action was repaired only by the following steps: Each string saddle had to be filed down in an effort to gain the desired height.
When this bass arrived to me (mind you as second hand), the frets required to be brought back to a lustre. The fretwire originally installed was of a cheaper type of metallic alloy, thus causing quick oxidation. This 2-1/2 year instrument frets were starting to decay somewhat when I received. Steps had to be taken to insure that further decay did not take place.
Reliability/Durability
:10
This bass guitar was manufactured with durability in mind. In fact, it's quite robust. As far as hardware goes, tuners installed were of lesser kind, meaning that better ones should be sort out. This will assure an easy tuning experience. All fastening hardware had to be retorqued. I mention torque because wood tends to strip when over tightened.

From Fordera, Fender, Kramer, Travis Bean, Nathan East, and too many others to mention here. Nice bass, however if lost or stolen I would opt for another bass to purchase.

Not sure of the date of manufacture.
22 (?) frets, 35" scale length.
5 strings
Alder Body, Maple neck. Beautiful Silver finish.
Vol, Blend. 3 band eq w/ sweepable mids. 18V preamp
MM style pickup in bridge position, J style in neck position.
I got it used, and it came with a gig bag.
I sold a bass, and was thinking of building a Lakland style bass, and this had all the features i was looking for. I had enough $$ left over to buy a PDA!!

I lead a band that plays mostly weddings and functions with a few regular bar gigs thrown in for good measure. As a result, i need an instrument that can produce a number of tones convincingly. The Millennium fits the bill. I use a Demeter/Carver/Aphex rack rig with a Hartke 2200 2x12 cabinet (GREAT box, BTW), and it's just a great combination! I use other basses as well, but more & more i find myself leaning towards the Peavey. The 18V preamp has headroom for days, and the 35" scale length is a revelation! The B string sounds great.

Of course, when you receive a new instrument, there is a bit of adjustment. I tweaked the neck relief, pickup height, etc, and now it just plays like a dream. Another person had a problem with the quality of the setup on his Millennium. I'm so sorry to hear that. I think you got a bad one, since mine plays just great.

I don't subscribe to the "bass as Furniture" school. My basses are tools, plain and simple, so i try to get the most bang for the buck that i can. The way i look at it, i beat the daylights our of 'em anyway, and if i speld a boatload of $$ on them, i'd always be neurotic about dings, nicks, etc. This way, if it gets knocked over, no big deal. But i digress...
It seems as though this thing is built like a tank, and will more than cope with the rigors of gigging. Also, i have to say that Peavey has come a LONG way from those clunky T-40 basses of the early 80s. This is a TOP QUALITY INSTRUMENT. It's a shame they don't make 'em anymore.

I've been playing for about 30 years, and have played them all. I really like this bass, and would replace it in a heartbeat. This bass should NOT BE CONFUSED with the Millennium BXP that is being sold now. They are made in Korea (i believe), whereas this bass is a US model. It sounds great, looks great (The hang tags were still on it when i bought it!), and i got it for an incredibly reasonable price. What's not to like??

My Millennium is in an awesome transparent blue color with flamed maple underneath. It has a active EQ with mid shift and active Peavey pickups that sound amazing. I don't have the hipshot tuners, but don't think I'd like'em anyhow. The neck is the main reason I bought this bass. It's tapered back is just the right size and makes my switch over from 4 to 5 string a breeze. It's still my favorite bass neck ever! I just wish it had 24 frets, oh well. The body is great too, it's very balanced and doesn't tip when you put a strap on it like some basses do (my Warwick).
Sound
:9
I love the sound of this bass, not quite as much as my friends Peavey Cirrus, but I still love it. It really blows my Warwick outta the water, it has much more punch and versatilly. The active EQ is amazing, especially with the mid-shift which gives you even more sound options. The sound reminds me a little of a Fender P bass mixed with a little more "new sound" to help with versatility. It sounds amazing to slap/pop on and can do just about anything. They should have used the same woods and electronics as the Cirrus though. I still love like this more than the Cirrus though, just because it plays so much better.

This is where the bass REALLY shines! I love the playablity of this bass, the best 5 string bass on the entire planet. I played one of these at a local Sam Ash music and my jaw dropped...like butter in my hands. One problem was that it was on hold for someone else and Peavey had already stopped producing them (I don't know why...it's such an amazing bass. Probabaly, cause they wanted to move the Millennium's production to Korea and save money.) When I checked the internet, all I found were the Korean made Peavey Millennium BXPs, which are TERRIBLE!!! So bad, don't get the two basses mixed up, they are completely different. Considering one costs $200 and the other costed $1600. I finally found one on Ebay with a dime sized chip in it down to the wood. But I didn't really care, I still paid $650 for it. I love this baby so much! Will never need another bass (cept maybe a fretless)

All in all, my favorite bass ever. I might switch out the electronics with a Cirrus, to make the BEST BASS EVER IN THE HISTORY OF EXISTENCE! But I'm fine with how it is now. I literally hug it before I go to sleep.

This is the peavey Millennium 5. It was made in the USA on March 31, 2003. 21 frets, 35" scale, pau ferro fretboard, nice satin finished neck. a charcoal violet finish i believe its called. looks lavender like. got the j neck pup and MM bridge pup. 18 volt active electronics. no humming or buzzing. Alder body (my favorite), maple neck. string thru body, or through the bridge. a nice hipshot bridge (top of the line) with adjustable string spacing (still havent figured that one out). Gotoh style tuners. this one didnt come with the hipshot tuners. came with the molded peavey case and dunlop straploks and the guy i bought it from even through in a nice planet waves strap.
Sound

this is a very versatile bass. i can get that stingray sound i want or the jazzy juicy sound i want. the sweepable mids make the possibilities endless. it does give me a little buzz when i touch the knobs, but only a small amount and only on my practice amp. i might need to shield something inside, or maybe my practice amp is just poop. the sound is perfect for the live playing i do. no complaints. i havent used it in the studio yet. get back to me in 2 months on the studio part...we are recording again in february. im sure it will be perfect for studio work because of its 18 volt electronics. very noise free.
Action, Fit, & Finish

hmm...the bass came from the guy i bought it from set up nice. the action was a little low for my preference and the frets buzzed. i got the action higher and i still had some buzzing. i tweaked the truss rod a little and its fine now. probably just the climate it was coming from. the finish is flawless. beautiful. this isnt the plus version, so it doesnt have the flamed maple top, but it is perfect without it. i am a guy, but this purple looks a little blueisher under stage lights, so it suits me well. i am proud to show off this bass. the tuners could be better. if i had gotten the plus version it would have come with the hipshot tuners instead of whatever ison mine. stays in tune fine, its just hard to get it in tune in the first place. gets a 9 for the tuners
Reliability/Durability

this thing can take a whoopin and keep comin back for more. it is solid, super solid. everything about it is solid. everything but the tuners. i havent had to adjust the truss rod since i got it set right for this climate. this bass is a keeper and will be there for me whenever i need it. i have a tight budget and i only have 2 basses. this bass and a cort curbow. the cort has some manufaturer defects in the neck that i havent gotten around to getting fixed yet. i am playing w/ out a backup, and im not a bit nervous. i have 2 extra 9 volt batteries in my case just in case, but i havent had to change the batteriess yet.

i got this bass used so i doubt i have any warranty on it. i emailed peavey a few times and never got an answer. i tried to call them twice and both times...they picked up and it never rang once!! no recordings or anything. it was a real person. i couldnt believe it! they said hello and i kept listening for someting else and they said hello again and i was like, "wow, its a real person." this is peavey, they make everything, but yet they want to talk to their customers. i had a question about the year my bass was made and the nice lady who answered transfered me to a guy who answered, but wasnt at his desk. he was out on the floor...but, he walked up the stairs to his desk just so he could help me. they really care about their customers. i will be buying from peavey again.

2002(?) Millenium 5-string, flame maple top with tobacco stain, echoed on peghead face. Strange nut; low, set into fretboard like a zero fret; pulldown bar on peghead face acts like string trees for all five strings. "Natural" finish birdseye maple neck and fingerboard. Other features as noted in other reviews. Came with typical bombproof Peavey hard case, straplock buttons installed. When I bought it, I A/B'd it against 10 or 11 other basses, including the Peavey Cirrus (deluxe model, but I didn't like the tone or balance as much as its cheaper cousin).
Sound
:7
I play many styles. Funk, jazz, rock, folk. I use a Peavey Mk VIII amp, with various cabs. I've always liked the simpler Peaveys (I have an old Foundation I'll never part with), but the Millenium has a much broader tonal pallette than any other bass I've tried lately. I can make it honk, growl, hoot, bark, and pop with just finger technique, and the tone stack (mid boost/cut is great) lets me dial in exactly what I need. I love the sound of this axe, through just about any amp I've tried it with. However, I have some difficulty getting a punchy, good-sounding direct signal out of it (Aguilar tube DI into board), possibly because of impedance issues. I'm also not happy with the ferocious fret rattle this thing generates (see below), which knocks points off an otherwise excellent rating.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:6
The general finish is fine, although the matte clear "rubbed" finish on the birdseye maple neck & fretboard took some getting used to (and it's already starting to wear and darken on the fretboard, like an old Tele). The frets could be taller. Main complaints about fit regard the action. As sold, the setup was dreadful. Action too low, all knobs loose, badly intonated. Fret rattle at *every* position. Unfortunately, raising the action did not clean up the noise. I uncranked the truss to full-slack, trying to get enough neck relief to make things right, but it wasn't sufficient. I finally had to resort to shims in the neck joint, but I'm going to have to do it again--the damn thing still rattles in most positions, even with the action high enough to be an intonation issue. Finish: 9. Fit: 8. Action: sick.
Reliability/Durability
:8
The body finish is impervious, like most Peaveys. Don't know about the mechanical durability, but I'm leery of catching the peghead on doorway and pillars--it's a pretty long neck, and I don't trust the neck joint. The fretboard, as noted, is starting to show wear, and the frets are some medium-soft alloy that's showing significant damage already (well, I *do* bend strings a lot). I am skeptical that this bass with hold up as well as my old Foundation.

Been playing off and on for nearly 30 years. I favor Peaveys, as I say, but I also own a couple Steinbergers. Past faves were an Ovation Deacon and a Silvertone shortscale. Would I get another Millenium? No. I love the tone, but there are zillions of other basses out there that cost less, sound decent, and set up better. Would I get another top-end Peavey? Probably not, for the same reasons.

I'm required to play a ton of different styles. This Bass has everything sound you could possibly imagine or need, and more. From Punchy P Bass to the Growl of a Jazz bass, this delivers tone for days. With the 35" scale the Low "B" is much better on this than my EBMM Stingray 5, that this bass replaced. Reliability/Durability

No manufacture has done more to supply it's customers with the most reliability and durability in an instrument or amp. Peavey built a reputation of over 30 years of instruments that just keep on going forever. I just got tired of having problems with other instruments. My 72 Jazzbass had the truss rod lift the black fingerboard block right out of the fingerboard? The neck was perfectly adjusted at the time, and a repair man just shook his head, but he did a great job making it look like it hadn't been disturbed. Only I was!

Ever call a manufacture and get the run around? Put on hold? I honestly do rate products as fairly as I can. I have called Peavey many times with just general questions. Every time, Every one I have spoken with has went out of their way to be helpful. If they don't know the answer, they do know who direct you to. It just don't get better than this. That's why this Bass is staying put. I value that kind of support.

I have been playing since the 60's. I have owned and Played Fender Jazz & P basses, My last two basses before this one, were a EBMM Stirling I played for years and then I need a 5, so I bought what was the most popular, a EBMM Stingray 5 string. I played that for a few years, but I was not happy with the "B" string flop. I tried DR Lowriders, and GHS Boomers, and I just thought well, I just need to try to change my playing habits? Well, when I Played one of these off the rack, I couldn't believe the sounds available and the "B" string was awesome, and the tonal options were unbelievable. Well, My sole Bass today, is this one. Is there any other Bass I would consider, if I wanted to own two? Yep, It would have to be a Cirrus 5. I saw a Peacock Blue that was to die for, but my wallet says this Millennium Plus 5 string stays.

Mine is a 2000 model bought in May 2001 (NOS). The finish is the Tiger Eye--which is incredible!! AAAA Maple flame on top, all black hardware, pau ferro fingerboard, dual graphite rods in neck WITH an adjustable truss rod, string-thru body, 5 knobs (volume, bass, treble, and dual mid, pick-up configuration), hard shell case, strap locks (yes, it came with straplocks!), dual active pickup system (musicman style in bridge, jazz in neck). This list on this bass is $1699--at its worth every penny!!
Sound
:10
I'm always worried about ready reviews with a "10" in sound--but this bass deserves it. I tried all makes of basses in search of "my" holy growl (he he)--such as spector, warwick, music man, ibanez, fender, curbow, etc. NONE had the feel or GROWL like the Millennium 5. The tones capable on this bass are endless. I can go from super fat bottom pound-you-in-the-chest-til-dizzy to upper-mid slappy happy freak show! The EQ is extremely broad and EVERY tone is usable! The dual mid pot is where the versatility comes alive. It is sensitive, but not overly sensitive. I can even get a wah sound out of the bass by just doing swells with the dual mid pots--particulary the lower mid knob. I used to use effects often to achieve a solid tone---NO MORE! This bass has it all ON ITS OWN! The bottom B string is tight and not even close to being floppy. The neck is perfect without one dead spot that I can find.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Cosmetically, the bass is flawless. Superb USA craftmanship!!! The tiger eye finish is utterly incredible. I stare at the bass for 10 minutes each time before I play it just thinking to myself "This badass bass is MINE!!" The action was a bit too low on the B string for me---but the store set it up for me. I really cannot comment on the factory set-up. ANY bass should be set-up to your likes anyway to give a good rating. The store set it up perfectly otherwise on action and intonation. The pickups are strong and punchy and VERSATILE. The bridge pickup is not as "angry" as a musicman pickup---but nothing is lost with it being less angry. It just has its own sound. Overall, this bass was looked over very well by the store before it was officially mine. This is a sign of a quality music store selling a quality product.
Reliability/Durability
:No Opinion
I won't give an opinion. It's difficult to rate something brand new on durablity. BUT, from owning Peavey equipment in the past, I'm sure I'd give a 9 or 10 in thirty years. One main reason why I chose this bass was the reliability and durability of Peavey. I think the Cirrus is considered Peavey's "top" bass--but this Millennium 5 Plus was more expensive than the Cirrus I was looking at and was tonally more impressive to me. If there are problems with this bass, Peavey will come through! All hardwire and wiring looks as though it will last and last. The only thing I can think it will need is the standard mainenance--intonation, slight bridge adjustments, occassional truss adjustment due to weather, etc.
Customer Support

If there was an 11, Peavey would get it. I get SOOOOO sick of people who bash Peavey. They have incredible quality for the money and SUPERIOR customer support to ALL who buy their products. I've owned boutique amps and rec'd poor service---incredibly poor service. I bought a used Peavey bass amp 15 years ago and had a problem. They answered my question in minutes!! Peavey is the company that cares about their product AND customer even after you walk out the door. Peavey is in the music business, not the money business like some other so-called quality product companies.

I've been playing for 16 years and have played numerous instruments from other manufacturers. I did not seek out to buy a Peavey. I was convinced to buy a Peavey after playing them. Peavey basses are great quality and craftmanship. The bass I bought was actually site-unseen, but I had tried the Millennium other various stores. I found my bass at an incredible (!!) price and it was the finish that I wanted. When I got the bass, it played like all the other Milleniums I tried. I was worried in buying it via a photo over email---but Goodwin Music in Ohio was GREAT!!!! I would cry for days if something happened to this bass. I bought this bass to keep for years, and I know it will keep playing in years!
