This bass is amazing. I know you are supposed to be impartial, but I have played quite a few basses in my years of bass playing, and It is very hard for me to say anything bad about the bass. The only problem I have is with the weight, and top heavyness. I have two of these basses. I have one smoked glass one and one clear one.

These basses were built in 1978, and 1979. They have a sound that is comparable to almost any bass made today.

I own several basses and these two by far are my favorites overall. I would love to here from any fellow Renaisance bass owners.

Produced in the late 1970's, by hand in Pennsylvania, USA. Photo can be found on the cover of "Guitar Stories, vol I" by vintage guitar mag.
Lucite (plexiglass) body, obsidian black, shaped like an abstract Les Paul shape & 1" thick, very heavy but rich on sustain.
Full scale birdseye-maple neck, 3 piece w/ walnut center strip throughout. (bolt on, brass plate) stark ebony fretboard
Hardware (all solid brass): medium high frets, nut, Grover tuners, Badass-I bridge, toggle switches.
Electronics: pickups= 2 active P-style(cream, Dimarzio, I think), active preamp (powerfull, very well made, 9V power), and controls for 3-way selection, individual pre-amp active switches for each pickup, volume & tone for eack pickup, brushed aluminum knobs.
OHSC, rectangular Fender-style w/ leather handle and ends, tolex body, blue velvety lining, locks.

Heavy, and for good reason. Great sustain and tone. The active circuitry on this bass is perfect after the many years of play, and can generate any bass sound possible. Very dynamic control allowed for pre-amp presence, tone, and pickup activity. Tone is good with preamp disengaged, but really comes alive in depth and punch when active. Best sounding bass (or guitar for that matter) I've ever played.

Masterfull craftsmanship here, with every detail finished to perfection........ frets, lamination (3-piece maple/walnut neck, ebony board), and general design. Action is perfect, intonation dialed, and no dead spots due to the super dense material used and the neck design. The brass hardware is still perfect, and no pitting since its all solid. Badass bridge is easily adjusted, and neck is trussable (seldom needed). Woods are well selected for the eye and ear. Plexiglass body is almost opaque black, and shines like a piece of polished coal. What more can I say?

Perfect reliability...... even the complex active preamp is still flawless after 20+years of use. Pots are noise-free, and the frets are like new. Neck seldom needs adjustment, and brass Grover tuners/Badass bridge are wory free. SOLID AS A ROCK & AS HEAVY.

Rare, and amazing bass. Strange, but well designed and crafted. Broadest sound I've come across in one bass, and fit is perfect, though a bit heavy. I know I'll never sell this instrument for any price, and would miss it dearly if lost... such a blast to play this one.
