2003 U.S. made Grind - purchased as new old stock - only Grind made now is the Korean model. Very unfortunate they disco'ed US production. It's a totally different bass than the current Grind.

34" scale 4-string, black hardware, mini-tuners, 24 fret Pau Ferro fretboard, 12" radius, graphite reinforced neck, body is solid alder with polyester/urethane high gloss finish, P style pup (neck), J style in bridge position, Hipshot QuadraJust bridge is convertible allowing coventional or through body stringing, 18v electronics, controls are volume, pup blend, stacked treb/bass boost/cut, and passive/active switch that looks like a normal control knob.

The body shape is very player friendly. Shape is very close to the Tobias Growler/Killer Bs. Weight is slightly below average and is well balanced.

Neck is truly a marvel. Straight as an arrow with perfectly level frets across the neck, permitting string action as low as I've played on any bass. Neck finish is not gloss..I cannot determine exactly what it is, but it's very smooth and fast.

Sound : 9
I use this thing around the house in a studio/recording mode as well as plugging into a Fender combo. Electronics are very quite. You can tell this an 18v system. It's very clean and rich sounding. Great for recording. Lots of nice headroom for dynamics. It doesn't have the raw bite of a Sting Ray, but is more flexible with the P and J pups. It's tone is refined and easily shaped by external EQ and effects. Excellent sustain.

I've put La Bella Hard Rocking Steel light guage on this ax (btw, very nice strings).

Whould have appreciated a midrange on the onboard preamp but this is a very minor omission based on the range of tones it can make.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The only "flaw" I could find was that the tuners were loose on the back of headstock, but I find that on many other basses too. This bass is new and Peavey did a wonderful job on the quality. Stacks up to any US made bass I can think of. No other issues, including fret finishing - which is a high neglect area I've seen on far too many $1000+ basses. No frets left undressed and no prickly fretwire on the neck/fingerboard edges.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Peavey finishes are legendary for durability. This appears to be no exception. Everything appears very solid all around. Neck has required no adjustment and seems rock steady.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I can't have an opionion here since I've never used customer support. I have heard all very positive reports from anyone that has dealt with Peavey.

Overall Rating : 10
As I've owned this bass a little over a month I've become very fond of it. It's a true player and is very polished in all areas of playability and sound. At $680 the bass was a steal. It has become a primary tool as I find myself picking it up more and more, and not able to put it down.

This Grind was surprising. Since I ordered online I wasn't able to play it before hand. I currently own and play 9 different basses. This and my Stingray get the most use now. Of these two, the Grind has seen more action lately. And for good reason.
