i was really looking for this other rickenbacher that i once played around 25 years ago. i thought it must have been a 3000 or 3001. to this day, i dont know. it was a solid long-neck like the 3001, but looked even better! hmmmm

cant sell this thing. i need the money, but cant do it!

1978, made in California. This bass is identical to the model 3001... the only difference is that the model 3000 is SHORT-SCALE (30 inches) and has TWENTY-ONE frets but only one tone control (a treble roll-off).

*** See 3001 reviews for all the details! ***

Mine came in jet-glo with white pickguard and TRC, but i have seen these in maple-glo and a dark brown sunburst as well, with various trim colors.

PERFECT bass for any kind of rock and roll music.

its totally NOT noisy, but has a HUGE sound, with the tone control up full it is simultaneously DEEP and TWANGY.

Just as versatile than a 4001 or 4003, despite having only one passive pickup and a simple passive treble roll-off control. Its VERY responsive to your picking style (I use fingers as well as occasionally a plectrum).

This was my MAIN BASS for gigging and studio work for TEN YEARS SOLID. If i hadnt gotten really busy as a full-time producer, i'd be playing it still!

i bought mine used in 1980 (500 bucks CANADIAN, if i recall correctly) and i did lower the action a tiny bit to make it play more to my liking. I didnt have to do anything but lower the brisge and tweak the neck rod a quarter-turn. I ordered neck wrench from rickenbacker, whihc they sent me along with some t-shirts and stuff :-)

Fit and finish, fretwork, attention to detail was PERFECT. NO FLAWS!

Reliability/Durability : 10
rock solid! mine saw a LOT of travel, including some harsh Canadian winters. after intial setup, it never required setup, all i ever did was polish it, and change the strings now and then.

Customer Support : 10
Excellent, simply excellent in all my dealings. I'm still a teeny tiny little bit miffed that they turned down my request to make me a custom short-scale 4002... but that was 30 years ago, so i will let bygones be bygones :-))

I've been playing bass since 1974 (professionally, since 1979 ) and i play a few other instruments too. I have owned about 250 very expensive guitars over the past three decades. If i see another Model 3000, i will be inclined to buy it!
