Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
after set up, they play wonderfully. Fretwork is surprizingly good. The best inexpensive bass i've ever seen. No flaws cept on my older one where i scratched the finish with a cheap guitar stand lol

Reliability/Durability : 10
old one still perfect cept for the mentioned scratches so no problems at all with durability

Customer Support : No Opinion
haven't dealt with Rogue bought them at musicians friend and they seem great to deal with

Overall Rating : 10

Passive or Active pu's battery access is great.
a fine single coil in the neck position and a Music Man style humbucker in bridge position.
can be played in passive if the battery goes KAPUT in the middle of a set.
push-pull volume pot,
I just cannot believe I am going to give a 10 on this bass, I'm a pretty pisck S.O.B.

Sound : 10
Jaw dropping!!... that is pretty much it I can honestly say that I can get a pretty nice Rickenbacker sound out of this, clean highs with smooth rich low end..nice and quiet electronics with a ton of clean gain, again a 10.. hard to believe!! they could send better documentation explaining the "BOOST" knob I kind of stumbled on that myself I just thought it was another tone pot!!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Not really a factor most pros simply trash the factory setup for their own liking, I did put a bit of relief in the neck...HUMM a neck thats too straight, 6 screw bolt on neck string through body,
high gloss-flawless red finish, nice bridge, nothing too fancy here but it gets the job done, I scrapped the factory knobs and went to Fleabay and bought some gorgeous knobs with full abalone tops to match the tastefull abalone dots on the neck, nice rosewood that is med. dark and rich looking. Sleek uncumbered by a pickguard
I 600/1000/1500 wet sanded then hand buffed the neck for a great gloss, (personally I don't care for satin finish on necks)others will like the satin. Intonation was ans is right on with every note on EVERY fret!! WOW!!

Reliability/Durability : 10
I am gigging with it, It fills in very nice when I reach the sonic limits of my Fender P bass, I would use W/O a backup in a second.. I have been very happy with all 3 of my Rogue guitars
I believe this bass just might out live me!!

Customer Support : 10
I have had very good luck with Musicians Friend CS, as long as you are reasonable they are too, actually if you do push a tiny bit you can get very satisfactory results..
Just follow my advise and do your own homework.. this is a great forum for doing this!! they don't seem to know a lot about much of their gear. I really doubt if I'll ever need any warranty work on this

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing professionally since 1976, I own so many guitars I even forget myself. most all the F and G brands, and some Yamahas Samick, Ibanez, need I go on.
I really think this will end up being a classic some day, I'm going to buy a second in the Sunset color just for collecting purposes (Yes I think that much of this guitar)!!..
Absolutly I would buy another if lost or stolen, I play this about 60% to 40% against my P and J basses. If you are thinking about it STOP and place your order, You'll love it.
I really believe this bass is worth 3 times what they sell for... and someday after they are discontinued I'll bet the mint ones will!!

5-string 6-bolt neck single coil and humbucker, push pull selector on volume to go between passive and active electronics, fader knob for neck to bridge pickup mix, tone knobs, 24 fret fingerboard, two tuners on one side, three tuners on other side of headstock, bridge allows either through body or through bridge stringing, mine has the gloss black finish. Lots of nice features for this price point, absolutely nothing to complain about.

Sound : 10
This baby barks and growls, and can get mellow as well, very nice bass tones, you can get a lot of variation with just the on-board push-pull option for active or passive, the fader knob, and the tone knobs, without even touching your amp or using sound processors. I auditioned it through a practice amp and only used the on-board tone altering, got a nice wide variety, left all amp settings in the middle. Again, at this price point, hard to believe.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The finish is flawless, and I look over new instruments under a magnifying glass. Set-up is always subjective, when I get to this category, the only way I would criticize an instrument is if it can't be set-up by someone with common tools and an decent working knowledge of how to set up a guitar or bass (that's me). If it has some assembly flaw that requires a highly trained guitar tech to make it right, that's a problem. I was able to set this bass up quickly and easily. I simply tweaked the truss rod to put a little relief back in the neck (it had none), changed a string that had broken at the core and was buzzing (factory strings almost always suck) and set the intonation and action. All adjustments were very slight and to my taste. It set up and plays extremely well. Anyone who dings an instrument because it doesn't come out of the box perfectly set up is a moron.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's not fragile. I stretched the strings out and the neck didn't change one iota. I'd gig with it for sure. I bought it for studio work, and it's gonna do just fine. All hardware is solid. Jet black high gloss finish is real pretty and seems as durable as any other I've seen.

Rogue basses are made in the same factory as a LOT of other brands coming out of Korea these days. I think the Korea factories are getting the reputation the Japanese guitar factories used to have, producing instruments well-made to exacting details, cheaper labor and modest materials = guitars that play great, look great, and cost a lot less. Once again, the Asian has made it tough on the fat American. I wouldn't even think of saving up for an expensive American bass that really won't perform or look any better than this bass. Anyway, I doubt I'll be needing any customer support on this guitar.

Overall Rating : 10
I just gotta brag a bit, I got this bass in a package deal from Musician's Friend, it was marked down to $199.99, and as part of a limited time special, MF threw in a 20 watt Drive practice bass amp FREE! I had no idea what to expect, and this bass just blew my mind once I had it set up and began really working it out in earnest. And a free practice amp! If only all my music equipment deals could be so sweet. Seriously, at this price, with this performance, how could it be wrong? If it had turned out to be a heap of dung, MF would have taken it back in a heartbeat. I've been a player for close to 30 years, so you can take this critique to the bank.

Read below for the features, or check out this instrument on MusiciansFriend.com . I really don't know how to rate features for a bass, I mean it has an active EQ, thats something, right?

Sound : 8
This guitar sounds fantastic. It is truly amazing what you can get for $200 if you don't pay for a name. There is a world of difference between having the active EQ on and off. Flip it on for some amazingly beefy lows.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action: perfect, no buzz
Fit: pickups needed to be raised a hair
Finish: I just got the black, the "quilted" finishes looked really korny in my opinion. The black looks great, considering its just solid black; but every guitar I own is black, acoustic, electric, and now bass, so they look great altogether.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Well, I've had it for a little over a week, and I see no reason why it would not be durable. I mean its like any other guitar, transport it in a case, and don't use it for a sledgehammer and it'll be fine. I've heard jabs at active basses along the lines of "I hate active basses because you can be gigging and have the battery die, and you're out of one bass for the rest of the night."

1. This bass has an enable/disable switch for the active EQ (pull/push the volume pot), so if your battery dies, just flip it off until the end of the song.
2. The battery is EASILY accessible on the back, changing it takes all of 8 seconds.

Customer Support : 8
Musicians Friend has always been fair to me, and considering Rogue is their "house brand," I'm sure they'll cover it more than reasonably.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing guitar/bass for 6 years, but I haven't touched a bass in almost a year, and I missed it so much that I had to go buy one. I thought I'd buy a 5 string to expand my rportoire a bit, and the active EQ was just a bonus.

Other gear:
12' djembe on Gibraltar stand (dang stand cost more than the djembe!)
Epiphone AE (black ofcourse)
Yamaha AESxxx electric guitar (black)

I love the sound of this bass, it really has amazing versatility, and can put out quite a number of differnt tones.

The one thing I wish it had (came with) is some documentation, I'm still tryin to figure these pots out.

Made in 2004, not sure where but pretty certain it's Asia. 24 frets, active eq, string through, SC and HB pups, etc, as others have listed. The blend, bass boost/cut and treble boost/cut controls have a detent in the center position, a nice feature I wouldn't expect for the price. The controls have a nice smooth feel to them.

Basswood body, with quilted maple veneer, and rock maple neck with dual trussrods (very solid). I opted for the maple quilt top in blue (options at time of purchase were black or blue). Came with a couple of allen wrenches and a cheap cord. The supplied 9V battery was completely dead. Couldn't at first decipher which knob was which control aside from volume, and there was no manual in the box. Called Musician's Friend and the tech filled me in. I also came to learn that Rogue is Musician's Friend's "house brand". These instruments are made for them by Samick.

Sound : 9
I am primarily a guitar player; got this bass to mess around and lay down tracks in my home studio. Play just about everything except jazz, and am finding that the active controls allow for a variety of tones without any effects at all. Tried it through my Boss GT6 (guitar) effects system into a mixer and amplifier system, and was quite pleased with sounds I was getting out of this bass. Time to shop for a bass effects pedal, I guess.

Cranking the treble boost to the max killed the sound. With max bass boost and some diddling was able to get very fat rich sounds. Quite a variety of tones are available with experimentation. Whether slapping, picking or finger playing I was able to get a sound I liked. Very versatile in this regard.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Given the price point of this instrument I was pleased to find everything was assembled and finished very nicely. No flaws or damage. The action was nicely set up from the factory - once tuned, there was no buzzing on any strings, unless you hammered on them. Sustain is very good with the string through setup. The quilted maple top looks really nice. It is fairly light but nicely balanced, and is comfortable to play. The pickups were a little low for my tastes and I raised them up a bit.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Dunno if I would gig with this bass - but it seems well put together and I don't see why it wouldn't survive, unless dropped and kicked around. In my home studio, I expect it will last forever with care.

The hardware is sturdy enough, and the finish is thick and nicely applied. The strap buttons were decent, but I replace them, as I do with all my instrumets, with Dunlop straplocks.

It is a nice looking instrument, and if you put on a rack on the store and covered the mfr label I would have guessed the price would have been at least double what I payed. Have had it less than a week, so time will tell how it lasts.

Customer Support : No Opinion
As this is Musician's Friend's brand, I would need to deal with them, should something go wrong. I haven't yet had any problems with them, although I have read of people who have. For what it cost it would probably be cheaper to replace than repair. The warranty is for one year, and you can buy an extended warranty plan at time of purchase, which I declined.

Overall Rating : 9
Been playing guitar for 30 years, on and off. Been in a number of bands, but these days I play as a hobby and for entertainment. Other instruments in my arsenal include a Jackson Dinky DK2S (another value buy - a great shredder), a Peavey T-60 (a vintage tank with tone), a custom made Hot Rod LP with Duncan full shred neck and custom wound bridge pup (the find of the century on ebay for $230), an ancient Tele clone I've mutated into a sweet player, and a Fender 12 string. Play mostly through my home studio through a Boss GT6, Alesis mixer, and vintage stereo amplifier system. Also sometimes use my Pignose GV40 (with some nice tubes and some tweaking, that amp kicks butt!). As I don't gig anymore I don't have any "monster" amps kicking around.

Was shopping, as many other reviewers were, for a decent 5 string bass for not a lot of money (ie a starter/intermediate level bass). Spent several weeks shopping ebay and the net, reading, and asking questions. I was looking for VALUE, and I think this instrument can't be beat for the money, especially with the active eq.

My pro guitar/bass player friend came by to check it out, and he commented it was a fantastic bass for the money. It doesn't say Fender or Gibson or whatever on the headstock, it was made on an assembly line, but it plays well and sounds great. And that is the bottom line, when you get down to it.

If it were lost or stolen I'd get another one. Haven't yet found anything I don't like about this bass. Can't give it a 10 out of 10 (nothing is perfect), but this is money well spent. If you are shopping for an inexpensive but decent 5 string, this is as good as it gets for the price.

Just bought it yesteday and only plugged into amp and listened through headphones so far. yet I can tell this bass is extemely versatile as far as sounds and I expect it to sing through a good amp and sound wonderful.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I had to raise the action for my playing and also adjust the intonation a little but the neck is strong and true and the frets are very well laid. Very impressed with this ax. I've been playing guitar and bass for 35 years so I've seen and touched a lot of axes. It stayed tuned overnight also so that's a good sign.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Will this bass withstand live playing?
Does the hardware seem like it will last? Yes
Is the finish good enough to last, or does it seem thin and easy to wear off with lots of playing? Excellent finish
Are the strap buttons solid? Yes, and a bit oversized. I had to take the bottom one off to get the strap on it but I was not bothered by that since it's not coming off too easy.
Can you depend on it? I believe so
Would you use it on a gig without a backup? Yes

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't needed cust support yet but Musician's Friend retailer has a 45 day returen policy on it.

Overall Rating : 10
I think I will be very happy with this ax.

Active EQ, decent Pickups, just go to musicians friend to read all the specs.

Sound : 10
I am a guitar player who is trying to put together a demo and needed a bass to put down tracks. I bought this taking a chance because it was so damn cheap. There were some other cheap basses out there but nothing with an active EQ for this price. I can definetly say this had about the same sound quality as the Ibanez Ergodyne bass at about half the price. It is amazing that they can sell this thing for only $249 bones.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Everything looked good and was set up pretty good. I had to raise the action a little cause there was too much rattle for my taste but this was an easy fix and most people I have seen have there action very low.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've only had it for a few days now so I'll have to see. I'm still giving it a 10 because just looking at the hardware you can tell this is no cheap piece of crap (despite the price).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to contact them and hopefully never will.

Overall Rating : 10
If you are looking for a 5 string bass for under 500 then buy this and save the extra money for a better amp. This is truely a good deal. I've been playing guitar for 9 years now so I can usually tell if something is a piece of crap the first 5 minutes. This definetly isn't and is a great value. If this thing were stolen I would definetly buy another one to replace it.

I just bought a Rogue LX-405b bass.I could not find any reviews on the net at all for it , so i figured i world take a chance. I was very impressed with this guitar! It was made in Korea, and the workmanship was very impressive. It has 25 frets, indian rosewood fingerboard with 2 truss rod. The neck is bolted on with 6 bolts. It was very thin for a five string and it playes like a dream. The top is laminated with canadian quilted maple. The body is basswood. It is very light, but well balanced. It has black diecast tuners that seem to stay in tune very well. I was impressed with the set up, all I had to do was just raise the saddles a little and the harmonics were perfect. The strings go thru the body, boy it sure sustains forever. I was impressed with the EMG style active pickups. They are very hot! All the strings sounded good, same volume all across. It has a nice heavy bridge. When you play this bass, you can feel it come to life. This is not a beginners bass. I took this guitar to a local music store and the owner played it and said it was as good a bass as he had in his store! It is very good looking also. I was shocked when i first saw it because it is natural, and I was expecting a nice slick glossy finish, but after looking at it and playing it I love it. I can not believe I got such a nice guitar for $249.00. I have a Fender Jazz, and I put it up. This Rogue will be my main bass. I play for 1500 or so people every week at church and I am proud to play this instrument. It slaps and pops great also. We play contemporary Gospel and it rocks! It also sounds good on slow grooves. I would buy another one if anything happened to this one. In earlier model Rogues, I read that the tone controls were loose. That was not the case on mine. They are tight. I would like to see other colors, but what more could you ask for at this price! Check this out, for the money it is a great guitar. Nothing cheap about it at all.

Sound : 10
It suits my style great. I use a Crate BX-2115 amp with a Boss Compressor/sustainer. It has a nice hot, full sound that is very clean. No buzz on the electonics at all. I like all the sounds it makes, as I said we play everything you can imagine from Country style to Rock Gospel and it sounds good on all of them.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Just had to raise the saddles a little and that was it. Pickups where perfect for me. They look just like EMG's but have no name on them! No flaws that I can see.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I play three times a week, and I do not anticipate any problems. Heavy hardware, good finish, solid strap buttons, and I plan to use it at church without a backup!

Customer Support : 10
Musicians Friend is a very good company to deal with.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass on and off for 20 years. I also own three other guitars. I wish the finish on this guitar was glossy, but it is really fine. In would buy it again if it was stolen. I guess the best thing about this Bass is the price! I don't see how they do it!
