This is an update to my review dated 07/27/2008. I removed the stock Roscoe Bartolini pickups and replaced them with a pair of Nordstrand Big Splits. The preamp is the same, a Bartolini 3-band with switchable mid select pot.

Sound : 9
With the Big Splits installed the highs now sound snappier, and the lows sound tighter. Think switching from rosewood to a maple fingerboard. That was my first impression. Even though my bass has always had a maple fingerboard, it's as though it suddenly sounded more maple-like. Moreover, I would add that with the Nordstrands the bass now sounds less hi-fi. The mids don't sound quite as squashed.

Before the switch I would often tell people my SKB bass sounded a lot like a giant P bass, though with less grunt and wolfiness. I also thought the bass sounded a little to "polite." With the Big Splits I get a slightly more aggressive sound, though I would still describe the sound as refined. Actually, with the Bart preamp and Big Split combination I now feel my bass sounds very similar to the F Bass BN5 I used to own. This is a good thing.

I worked with Greg Bump of Rocket Music (http://www.rocketmusic.net/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?display=home). He was a consummate professional. Very helpful. He asked me to measure the distance from string center-to-string center and the distance from the end of the Bart pickup to the center of the B string. He then forwarded my information to Nordstrand. When the pickups arrived and were installed, I did not detect any problems with regard to the all-important alignment of pole pieces to strings. This was not so much of an issue with the Barts, I was told, as they are blade style pickups.

I should note that the pickups were installed by Andrew Henry of Henry Basses (http://www.henrybasses.com/). He is a graduate of the Indiana University String Technologies Department (and a graduate of the IU Music School). He has done work for me several times now. He builds his own basses from the ground up. I am very impressed with his build quality and look forward to one day commissioning him to build a bass for me.

Nothing put positive things to say about Greg Bump and Rocket Music. I didn't deal directly with Nordstrand although I hear good things. Andrew Henry is a champ.

Overall Rating : 8
Very happy with the switch, not that the Roscoe Bartolini pickups did not sound very good. I think most people would be completely satisfied with the former pickups; however, after playing my bass with the stock pickups for a year or so, I thought it was time for a change. I am very happy with the Big Splits and feel that I got very good advice from Greg Bump, the Nordstrand website, and from the reviews I read on the web.

The only downside is that buying new pickups and then paying someone to install them ain't cheap, but, hey, sometimes you gotta live a little. The only thing left I can think to mention is that Big Splits, with their two-pole-pieces-at-a-45-degree-angle-per-string layout look really, really cool. Definite style points there. You do, however, have to be careful that your Big Splits are not set too close to the strings or you will get noise when you bottom out. I did not experience this phenomenon with the Barts. Andrew lowered my front Big Split as the B string was making contact with the pole pieces when I really dug in with my right hand.

2007 (or 2008, not 100% sure) Roscoe SKB 6 fretted. Flamed redwood top, mahogany body, and sandwiched between the two what appears to be figured maple. Maple fingerboard with "Roscoe" inlay at the 12th fret. 35-inch scale, 3-piece maple/purpleheart/maple neck. Classy and familiar-looking Roscoe headstock with matching redwood veneer. Diamondwood nut (nice). I'm telling you this bass is simply stunning. I cannot write well enough to adequately describe it.

Bartolini pickups and preamp. Three-way mid control, adjustable (I believe) through the back control cavity. Tuners are black hipshot and so is the bridge (model "A"). There is none of that silly stringing through the body business. The electronics and hardware are all standard Roscoe fare. Quality, albeit somewhat heavy, form-fitting Roscoe hard case included.

It's got everything I could possible want except strap locks. A 9 for this highly subjective category.

Sound : 10
In my humble opinion, this bass sounds like it looks: classy, round, complex, and refined. Now, here comes a major overgeneralization. If an F Bass sounds like a Jazz Bass on steroids, then the Roscoe sounds like a P Bass on steroids???more or less. I traded an F Bass BN5 (and another bass) for this monster, so the sound of the former was still fresh in my head when the Roscoe arrived. Playing it though my trusty old GK combo, I would have to say that the Roscoe sounds slightly more subdued than my F Bass (swamp ash body, maple fingerboard). I suppose what???s most surprising to me is just how similar these two basses sound to one another. I know this contradicts what I said above (Jazz Bass v. P Pass), but that???s how I feel. You cannot (I don't think) go passive with the Roscoe, which is a shame. Playing around with the Roscoe???s blend, treble, bass and mid controls produces LOTS of useable tones. The mid control is very subdued and musical, IMO. I can boost it all the way up without a problem. This may not be the case after changing the setting on the mid control to boost/cut another (higher) frequency. The string balance is very good, both in terms of sound and feel. The ???B??? string sounds very good to my ears. I???d say it???s definitely on par with my Dingwall???s 37-inch scale "B" string. The Roscoe???s slap sound is quite good, but I can't see this bass, or any 6 for that matter, being your main slapping axe. As far as style, I think this bass would excel at jazz, funk, gospel, and pop. Rolling off the bridge pickup and playing with a pick produces a convincing rock tone, but I???d think twice before hauling this one along on the next gig with your Judas Priest cover band.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The fit and finish is top notch. This bass was sold as a store demo. It must have been on the highest peg in the store; it looks unplayed. The action is low, maybe too low. I was shocked, however, that there was no buzzing. None. I used to be sold on neck through body designs but have come full circle after witnessing and hearing what luthiers such as Sheldon Dingwall, John Furlanetto, and now Keith Roscoe and staff are designing and building. It???s really quite amazing. By the way, if your curious about seeing the Roscoe staff in action, go to YouTube. There???s some interesting footage of the various stages of bass building. Back to my particular bass. It really plays and feels like an old friend. I should say at this point that this bass came from Bass Alone. I'm not sure if Val or one of his Bass Alone colleagues set this thing up or if this is a factory setup. Either way, bravo. Tops. Speaking of tops, this SKB???s flamed redwood top is simply amazing. When holding this bass up to the light, the maple accent layer between the redwood and mahogany body comes to life as though animated. There is, however, what appears to be a knot in the mahogany, but I've seen far worse in other high-end basses. Still, I'm going to refrain from giving a 10 due to this--how should I put it?--unexpected bit of character.

A few words on the neck. The finish on the back of the neck is super smooth, and the purpleheart and maple contrast nicely, adding to the overall aesthetic of this already killer-looking bass. The thickness and width of this neck feel as though Keith Roscoe and his staff slipped into my house and took measurements of my somewhat-larger-than-normal hands while I slept. If this neck is representative of all Roscoe necks, then count me a believer.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This bass seems as durable as any other bass with the above-described hardware and features. The compact body style imparts a feeling of ruggedness, but I sure wouldn't want to drop it! I'd probably never forgive myself. I can see myself having a problem playing this bass in places where people might get "rowdy." Maybe this will change once the newness wares off. I hope so. After all, it's a tool, not a piece of furniture. It needs--in this case, begs--to be played. I will rate this category a 9 because although there is a separate batter compartment, I'd rather that the cover be a pop-out/flip-up type or held in place with magnets (see Dingwall and Watson). I can totally see my battery going out during a gig and not being able to locate one of the many screwdrivers because my idiot guitar player borrowed and did not return them. Also, straplocks really are the way to go if you're playing live. As stated above, I'd be beside myself if I dropped this bass.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with the company. Not sure what the warranty is. Need to look into that.

Been playing bass about 20 years. Last couple instruments besides this one have been an F Bass BN5 and a Dingwall Afterburner 6. I still have the Dingwall. I traded the F Bass because I found myself favoring the 6 and thought I'd go all in with the 6. I contacted Val from Bass Alone after seeing this Roscoe on the Bass Alone website. I expressed some initial reservations about giving up the F Bass, but Val assured me the Roscoe was a win-win situation. Boy was he right. Of course, one man's feast is another man's famine, caveat emptor, and so on and so forth. I, however, am one happy camper.
I would replace this bass with another Roscoe if something happened to it, although I'd also consider an MTD 635. It would have to be some bass, though, to make me consider it over another Roscoe. Or???check this out--perhaps a Roscoe SKB with Nordstrand pickups and Aguilar preamp? Now that sounds intriguing. There's always something else out there. If you don't think so, you're just not looking. At the risk of sounding smug and sanctimonious, however, the Roscoe SKB is perhaps the perfect bass for me at this point in my bass-playing evolution.

This Roscoe was made in July of 2000, in the Roscoe factory (duh).

Everyone reading this should know that like most Roscoes, it has 24 frets with no fret markers except on the 12th fret. The body is made from three beautiful pieces of deep red Spanish cedar, with a gorgeous Exhibition grade quilted maple top. The official name of the color is "Antique Yellow" although I consider this bass a definite "Amber."

This bass has two Bartolini soapbar pickups, with 18v active/passive electronics. The neck is two-pice maple with a purpleheart centerpiece. The purpleheart is bordered with what appears to be two thin strips of dark wood, but I cannot name them. The fretboard is made of spalted purpleheart. Most spalted purpleheart fretboards from Roscoe are bright-purple and cream colored, but this bass's purpleheart is a deep brown color. I like it, it matches the color of the bass better. This being my first and only Roscoe, I kind of wish that I had a brighter-colored neck (just because). The neck spacing is perfect. It is not too large, which would result in me getting lost on the fretboard. It is not to small either, letting me dig my popping finger in when I slap.

The body style is "large," although I stress that my Fender Jazz bass' body dwarfs the SKB body. The bridge is Hipshot, and looks like it could take a bullet. The tuners are Gotoh and work well. I got the official Roscoe case for free.

Sound : 9
I play a large variety of music from jazz to progressive funk to experimental noise music. This bass gets a great variety of tones, no matter what the genre calls for. I have a line of effects, but hardly ever use them with the Roscoe, since it is set up so hot. I use an Ampeg SVT350H powering a Hartke 4x10.

This bass is set up HOT. My amp often freaks out if I am not too careful. I usually play dry and with a light touch. This bass has been compared to the tone of a grand piano, and I don't argue. This is the only bass that I have played where the B string sounds healthy. The B is more than healthy; I would classify it as "Vibrant." Basically, this bass has beautiful tone.

Just to be fair, I will admit that I use this bass exclusively for my jazz band Razzberry. I do not use this bass as much for my progressive stuff, since that is more effects-heavy and I just can't use effects with this bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I bought the bass "Used." I put the parentheses because when I checked the history of the bass, it had never been sold. It sat at the guitar store for so long that they classified it as used and took off half the price. Good for me, eh? I say this because the first question asks "How well was the bass set-up at the factory?" and all I can say is "It was probably set up well." When I bought the bass, the action was a little high. I know that Keith often sets the action very low before sending a bass out, so I know that it was tweaked a little bit. The pickups are at the perfect height. I haven't needed to move them since I bought it.

Again, since I bought the bass after it sat in a guitar store for a couple years, I can't tell you the condition it was in when it was released from factory. When I bought it, there were some belt-buckle blemishes on the backside, and the frets needed cleaning. One of the tuning pegs was a bit loose, and one of the pots is a bit noisy.

Since I bought this bass "Used", I will put N/A for the rating

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass is built like a tank. No fooling. I am surprised at its durability; most boutique basses are as fragile as a snowflake. The bridge is especially durable. I could probably drop it off a building and see no damage too it. The finish is thick and strong. I don't think it will ever wear out. I replaced the strap buttons with strap locks (this bass is durable, but I will not risk it falling off my shoulder). The bass is very dependable. I could survive any gig with this bass.

Customer Support : 10
Roscoe gets a 13 out of 10. Keith Roscoe is the nicest, most considerate man I have met. I sent Keith and email with a picture of my bass and it's serial number, expecting him to tell me when the bass was made. Within 24 hours, he told me when the bass was started, when it was finished, when it was sent out, where it was sent out, whether or not it was sold from the store it was sent to, what the bass was made out of and all its options, and a personal story of when the bass was being made. The man is a godsend. I have never recieved such excellent customer support.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing 3 years and own a Fender Jazz with Bartolini pickups, Warmoth neck (goncalo alves neckwood and ebony fingerboard), and hipshot trem bridge.

If this bass were stolen, I would find and kill who stole it. If I lost it, I would kill myself.

This is just a wonderful bass. Beautiful, durable, and excellent sounding. I couldn't have asked for more.

My SKB-3006 was made in 1995. I picked it up at the Roscoe shop in Greenboro, NC. It is setup with two EMG pickups. Before I bought it I had played about every other major high-end 6-string bass out there. What really sets the Roscoe appart for me is the wide string spacing (nice for slap), the great feeling low B, and the extremely comfortable neck. The bass is big, but the neck is very well shaped and makes it feel fast yet solid.

Sound : 10
I've always had engineers compliment my tone in the studio. The bass just sounds great. It has a nice bit of brightness and snap, but also has a lot of warm, big tone. It has proven to be a very versatile instrument. It doesn't have a growl like my Warwick, but it has it's own equally nice tone. I would describe it as being more fat and rich than growl. Btw, I got rid of my Warwick because it was getting neglected. If I picked up one bass it would always be my Roscoe.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Great! The action and neck feel are superb. I've had luthiers and setup techs rave about the quality of the craftsmanship. The quality blew my other Warwick thumb bass away, and that was an early 90's Warwick thumb (when they were really good).

The finish is flawless and tough. It has been on the road and carted around with me for almost ten years now. I take care of it, but I don't baby it. The finish is still great. Almost showroom still.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've never had an issue with the bass other than the strap lock on the horn has worn loose over time, but that is more just typical wear. I can probably just get a longer screw to fix that. You can't hold that against the craftsmanship.

Customer Support : 10
There was a slight issue with the circuitry intially, but that was taken care of and has never come back up again.

Overall Rating : 10
I am looking to get another Roscoe SKB-3006, so that should tell yo something. They are not cheap, but they are instruments that you will keep for a lifetime. I want to get a custom built one soon.

I ordered it two months ago, and i got it last week. When i opened the light case, i said "Wow! it's so beautiful". My SKB3006 is Spanish Cedar body with figure(or flame) maple top, Amber finish, Purple heart fingerboard, black hardware, and bartolini 3-way preamp. It's so beautiful and light, but when i hold it up, i found two scratches on its back. The boss of music instrument store used the wool brush to brush the scratch and made them disappear. I don't know who made this scratch.

Sound : 10
I play rock, metal and pop. The SKB3006 sounds great and acoustic. 3-way preamp makes it variable. It suit my music-style.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
My SKB3006's action is very low. The bass set-up at the factory is well. I always play hard, and i turn the thru-rod one more circle. However, it's action is still low.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I don't konw. i just got it one more week.

Customer Support : 10
Keith helped me a lot before i ordered, and when i got some questions about my SKB3006, he also helped me. When i ordered my SKB3006, they told me that i must wait about thirty business days. But i got it on the fourty-five business day, It's too long to wait it.

I recently bought a SKB 3006 without ever playing a Roscoe before. But based on everything I read, I thought "this might be the one". Well, turned out it is. It's a 35" scale, flamed redwood beauty with an 18v preamp. It also came in a nice, fitted, lightweight gig bag. Everything is tight and perfect.

Sound : 10
I'm currently playing in a progressive group where clarity and balance between the strings is crucial to my sound. I've never played anything more rich than this bass. The shape of the bass took some getting used to for me as I came from playing a GT7, where the neck was really wide and flat. The B string is capable of crushing buildings!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action is very low, I'm still evaluating whether I like it this low or not. It's caused me to back off a little which has actually helped me in some regards. The string spacing is different than my other basses. It's nowhere near as wide as my Yamaha TRB6, but pretty close to the string spacing on my Conklin GT7 (sans 1 string). So far, it's extremely comfortable to play. Definitely nice and light.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's built like a rock, the neck is straight as an arrow. The finish is high poly and is gorgeous. One thing that might be improved is the input jack, seems a little sloppy compared to my GT7 (has a locking mechanism). I've had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever though.

Customer Support : 10
I wanted to find out about the woods in the bass and Keith responded right away via email. I've had nothing repaired and I have no warranty, but based on the fact he emailed back and was friendly, I'm guessing they'd take care of you just fine.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing over 20 years and have several other basses including a Conklin GT7, a Yamaha TRB6 and a Ken Smith Burner Fretless 6. I cannot stress how amazing this bass is. The B string is monstrous, but can also be tamed down. The electronics are capable of covering a wide spectrum. I would definitely purchase another Roscoe. If anyone has an SKB 3007 they'd like to part with....

Unbelievable, huge tone. Can be warm, or very bright... but definitely never "dark." This doesn't mean there isn't variety -- far from it -- a huge variety of useful tones are available. I play through an SWR Workingman's 15 combo and this bass's tone is almost to big for it... the B-string will shake down the house, but is incredibly clear and just sounds amazing. This is the way all B-strings should, and were meant to sound. No noise whatsoever from the pickups.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The bass was shipped to me by a Roscoe dealer... when I received it, the stacked tone knob was loose (cracked pot), and the neck needed some pretty major adjustments to make it playable. I blame this on the dealer and not Roscoe Guitars. I contacted Mr. Roscoe and he responded very quickly... he apologized and immediately offered to fix the problems at no charge. When I got the bass back, I was very happy. The action is great... extremely easy to play. The neck is just right... very comfortable to play on. The frets are beautifully done. The bass just looks great, no other way to put it. Mr. Roscoe makes a beautiful-looking instrument -- but just as importantly, it plays and sounds incredible. My "final score" for this category is based on the bass as it was received from Mr. Roscoe, and not from the dealer.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass is built very well... it feels very "tight" -- I believe everything about this instrument is built to last. The finish obviously hasn't been through a lot, but it doesn't look like it's going downhill anytime soon, given basic care.

Customer Support : 10
As stated in the Action & Finish section, Mr. Roscoe was very courteous to me and made sure the problems were fixed. When I got the bass back, everything looked/worked perfectly. I'm very happy with the customer service, and it makes me feel comfortable knowing that these are good people who are willing to make things right.

Overall Rating : 10
It's been said before, but these are great basses that look incredible and sound huge. If stolen or lost, I would definitely buy another Roscoe. Again, the tone is great and the B-string is probably as good as it gets. I'm very happy with my purchase.

SKB-3006 six string bass, spanish cedar body with 5A flame redwood top, matching headstock, natural finish, maple and purple heart neck with spalted purple heart fingerboard. Bartolini pickups with 3 band EQ. Black hardware, diamondwood nut, recessed straplocks. 35" scale 24 frets. With Case. Received it on November 13th, 2002.

Sound : 10
I am a professional musician who plays a rock/ country mix throughout the U.S. and far east. I play through a Eden WT-400 head, EA VL-208 cab, use EBS pedals, and Korg dtr-200 tuner. I had this bass custom made, after going to Bass Central in Orlando FL and trying one on their recomendation. The one I tried in the store was like this one, but with a burl maple top. It sounded like a P-Bass on steroids. Mine has a softer redwood top, and has a slightly more jazz type growl and punch. The natural sound of this bass is clean, with smooth mids and highs, and with big but clear lows. I actually run the eq on the bass and on my head FLAT. It has a unique woody sound that sits really well in the mix and is hard to hide. The 3 band eq is very versitile, and can really give me a wide range of tones.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
When I went to pick up the bass at the factory in Greensboro NC, Keith asked me if I liked low action. I had no idea it was going to be this low. The neck is arrow straight, and all I have to do is adjust for the fingerboard curvature. The pickups are spaced nicely for different tones, but far enough from the neck to allow for easy slapping access. The flame redwood top is amazing. The way it catches stage light is like nothing else I have seen. You can see brilliant flame from 50 feet away. it's a cinnimon color with a 3 inch wide amber stripe in the middle, due to the book matching. The finish did have one flub, near the bridge, but you really have to look to notice it. The neck is really well shaped, not to fat, not to skinny, and helps on hand fatigue. The spalted purple heart finger board looks wild. It's half purple and half tan color, (hard wood and sapwood) and has a great feel to it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass is built like a tank. The neck screws are machine screws, not wood, and are set into brass inserts. It has survived the trip over here (I'm currently outside of Tokyo Japan) with flying colors. I usually adjust the bass once a month, due to climate changes because of the travel.

Customer Support : 10
I traveled to the factory in August 2002 and spend several hours with Keith Roscoe. He gave me a tour, explained how the different woods he uses, and we went over many wood samples for the top. He is a very patient man, and made sure that I got the top I wanted. He answers e mails promptly, and even sent me a pic of the body right after it got it's final clear coat, which is really cool. Every one I met there was freindly, and more than happy to show me what they did, and really cared about their craftmanship.

Overall Rating : 10
This bass was the final piece of my pro retrofit of my gear that I started a year ago. It hits home runs in the four things I wanted, Weight, looks, playability, and sound. It does have small flaws that show me it was made by HAND, and not a machine. From the carved top, to the fingerboard, everything was judged and evaluated as to how it would work on this bass, and the attention to detail shows. It has a character all it's own. There are many other hand made basses out there, but when you figure in the incredable low end, the great price, and the great people who work there, I'm hard pressed to find a better fit.

i just purchased a roscoe skb 3006 with a swamp ash body and a birds eye maple fretboard. it has a 7 piece (maple, mohagany, maple, purpleheart, maple, mohagany, maple) neck and a 35 inch scale. black hardware and a wineburst finish. bartolini 18volt peramp and 3 band eq and pickups. i previously was using a warwick dolphin pro 4 string as my main bass but now im considering selling all of my other basses and buying only roscoes. when played through my rig, aguilar amps and epifani cabs (4x10,1x15) it sounds amazing.!

Sound : 10
the sound through this bass in unbelievable. it have several foderas that cost as much at twice as much as my roscoe and all i can say is that they will be on ebay pretty soon, as i am definetly buying nothing but roscoes from now on. the tone of this bass is amazing, ever since i started playing this bass my band has never had to tell me to tweek my amp settings, with a flick of the blend knob and the eq's on the bass i can achieve ANY sound. ive even managed to get a victor wooten type of sound out of it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
the action requirdd no set up upon arrival. it was sent to me from basscentral in florida where it is approximately 85 degrees and humid and when it arrived here in avon connecticut it was about 45 and dry, the neck had no bend in it, the action was low and fast and ready for fingerstyle or slap. the neck is perfectly spaced and the strings are perfectly spaced for fingerstyle or slap. the pickups are perfectly placed for any kind of sound u want. the only flaw i saw was that the case it came in had a slight white scuff about the size of a fingernail on it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
ive owned a lot of basses in my time and many of them have succomb to rigorous live playing and needed to be retuned after every 5 or 6 songs,(even my foderas!) but this roscoe keeps going strong all night long. the tone sounds impeccable all night, the neck has never needed any adjustament and the finish is flawless even after playing countless hours in smokey and wild clubs, i even dropped a lit cigar on the bass by accident and it didnt even mar the finish. all of the screws and bolts are as tight as the day i recieved it.

ive only had to contact mr. roscoe a few times and each time he replied to my emails within 24 hours, the only reasons ive contacted him were to ask about building me another bass! the lifelong warranty is comforting even though i wont need it. ive asked many an annoying question about them building me a new bass and mr. roscoe has been every polite and helpful throughout the process. ill never buy anything but a roscoe ever again! i just wish he made amps and cabs too!

i cant beleieve how happy i am with this bass, usually the novelty of owning a new bass wears off after a few weeks but ive had it for 2 months and i get giddy every time i pick it up. I WILL NEVER BUY ANY BASS OTHER THAN THOSE MADE BY KIETH ROSCOE FOR AS LONG AS I CAN STILL PLAY! i would encourage you to do the same.

This is a 2000 New Roscoe SKB-6 fretted 6 string
It has a mahogony body with quilted maple top and birdseye maaple fret board. The finish is deep amber and is very beautiful
Controls are stacked bass and treble, midrange, volume, and pan.
Bartolini humbuckers with 18 volt preamp

Sound : 8
In my opinion, the pickups are back alittle farther than they should be.This gives the bass a little more of a honky midrange sound. But it is very versatile and responds well to knob turning.A maple body would be punchier obviously but the bass still has a very good slap sound
I am a little upsdet with how much volume I get off of the low B string.I have to play it very carefully when I record but live playing isn't so touchy.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I haven't played a bass with better action. The string spacing is as versatile as you can get. There is enough room for slapping and it is still close enough for finger style playing.

The finish on the body and neck is perfect.I haven't seen better.there are however some voids in the quilt top which surprised me.You shouldn't use a top on a 2500.00 dollar bass but I saved a little money due to that imperfection

Reliability/Durability : 9
The hardware seems excellent and I hope that the handmade wooden nut stands up to string changes.
Most 6 strings are hard to play standing up as is this one but you can adjust.
I trust this bass enough to take it on a gig without a backup

Keith Roscoe is a very friendly and helpful guy.He E-mails you back usually in the same day.He is a great craftsman and I hope he continues to refine his basses until they can't get any better

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing 7 years on bass and 20 years on guitar and other instruments.I love everything about it except that the tension could be alittle less and the B string is louder than all the other strings. But for the money,it is a great high end bass.
I compared this bass to everything else on the market since G-Guitars carries everything bass.I like MTD basses but they don't play as well as the Roscoe in my op0inion and have odd ergonomics.

The only other bass I would replace this with is a Zon 6 string. They have graphite necks but sound light uears better and warmer than a modulus. They are also about $1000.00 more expensive
