Acoustic bass guitar, Made in China 2005 with 20 frets and short scale (30").
Comes with Shadow sh-P7 preamp system (5 band eq) and a piezo-electric bridge pickup system.
The body is a dreadnought style body, with a single cutaway to allow access the the high end frets. Laminated spruce top, catalpa back and sides.
The finish is a natural satin finish on the body and a dark finish on the fretboard and black on the rest of the next.
Standard bass style tuning gear, nothing special about the neck.
The strings that came with it are standard electric bass strings and do not sound too great. These need changing asap

the bass came complete with strap, gig bag and pick (also had a 2nd strap button fitted by the shop)

Sound : 8
Played acoustically with a pick it is suprisingly loud, much lounder than the washburn and also a fina acoustic bass I tried. I am sure that in an acoustic set with acoustic guitar and hand drums it will be heard okay. As an acoustic bass for the price it is well worth the money I paid.
The pickups with he 5 band eq can be set to many different sounds, the bass can be used at a push instead of an electric but not for slapping. I like both the plugged and unplugged sounds but wish it had a long scale neck not a short one as I use the top 4 frets quite abit on my electric.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
The trusrod needed some ajustment (2 mins), the only flaws on the bass I could find are that the hole in which the strings ends sit in the saddle did not seem to be all cut to exactly the same lenght so looking down there the strings ends (althought all held perfectly) do not line up. A minor thing and when I asked in the ship they shrugged and said 'Its cheap'. It only came with one strap button but the shop fitted a 2nd one in minutes.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I think it will hold-up well to live playing, acoustic basses do not seem to have the workload and bashing that electrics get. The overall studiness seems fair. strap buttons are solid, the weigh is light. The finish is good but without a pick guard may get scratched on the body. The neck finish is also good. I never gig without a backup in the building anyway.

Been playing for 5 years and own a Yamaha 5-string BBN5-II, a yamaha pacifica 112MX electric guitar and a yamaha AXP-6A acoustic electric guitar. This bass fits in very well.
I compared this bass to a washburn (3x the price and worse quality) a fina (same price/quality but not so good pickups), a Vester (5yrs +, a better acoustic sound but 2x price) and a martin (10x price). For the price I paid ~US$ 200 this was the pick.
Wish it had a 24 fret long scale 34" neck
If it was lost/stolen I would get another if I could not make the price (3x by the time I import it) for a Dean or Michael Kelly.

Overall I am happy with this acoustic bass but would have liked to be able to afford the 'next grade up the quality scale'
