2006. NYC P-Bass. 4 Strings. 21 frets. Alder Body, Metallic Green finish with tortoise shell pickguard. Controls are master volume, tone (treble roll off) with passive/active switch, and bass/treble boost (active only). P-style sadowsky pickups wrapped by Peter Lollar (I believe that's his name). The fingerboard is brazilian rosewood, satin finish on the neck. Bridge with quick release string-change feature (convenient to work around the metal pickup guard). Neck is 1 3/4" at the nut with a 9" radius. Came with a hard shell case. Nice basic setup without all the pointless switches and knobs.

This bass has a great low end P bass tone. Strung with flatwounds it supports beneath the band but still has clarity in the low midrange. Strung with roundwounds it sounds more modern but still can come very close to the 60s P-bass sound if the treble is rolled off on the tone knob. Tone is generally one the dark side but the notes always have a distinct attack. The swell of the note is just incredible and you can feel the bass resonate even unplugged. The overtones when playing fifths and harmonics create rich, resonant textures that I have never heard on an electric bass before. I have not recorded with it yet but for gigs cuts through clear as bell, without ever overwhelming the band. The active/passive switch makes for incredibly versatility of tone and the active preamp makes the bass sound a lot more "modern". The versatility of tone depending on where and how you pluck the strings with your right hand is incredible. I have really had to work to refine my technique in order to adjust to this bass's responsiveness.

The metallic green finish is beautiful. I had a tortoise shell pickguard put on, which is custom cut for the specific neck pocket. The neck is very straight and the action very low. The fretwork seems flawless. I am not technical expert on bass building but this seems as good as it gets. It is nicely balanced when standing with a strap. The srting spacing is very wide which I am not used to, but it is not bad.

Everyone at the shop is very knowledgable, helpful and friendly. No attitude at all. They answered my emails within a day and let me come on several occasions for hours at a time to try out basses in their stock room before I finally bought this great bass. Roger made sure I was happy with my bass when I came back a few days later to get a different pickguard put on, which they had finished by the following morning.

Expensive, but well worth it so far. I have only had it for a month but I imagine it will last forever. Although very different, it makes my musicman stingray sound like a toy. I also have a rob allen mb-2 fretless which is the nicest fretless bass I have played and the craftmanship on this bass is comparable if not better. I love the look of the bass, the green stands out, yet it isn't flashy. Very fun yet elegant instrument. I wanted a 60s p bass but didn't want to pay $7000 for one. This bass is totally resonant and with an even swell and decay on every note.

Totally top bling of a bass. If it were stolen or lost....I'm getting a Sadowsky Jazz to keep her company. Reassuringly expensive.
