Am new to Sadowsky Basses but I have what looks like a Standard 4.Natural finish which has yellowed nicely over time.It has a manufacture date of 1988 in the electronics cavity.Maple finger board.Pick ups are the standard Jazz Bass configuration with active electronics which can be bypassed to passive mode.Found this prize in a Pawn shop which really didnt know the true value of this bass or the age of it.Serial number is in the very low 300's range

Killer tone,a bit of a hum when using more than 50% treble settings but not bad.Sounds great thru my rig on stage.

I have owned this bass since 1994, played it on every style, from Funk to Standard jazz, rock,country...it always sounded FANTASTIC. Also, very punchy on tape. Very round and warm, no matter what set up I,m using live...just what I had in my head for so long

everything was perfect, like all the Sadowskys I tried before...nothing will come out of this shop clumsy...set up is everything on an instrumentand Roger Sadowsky understood that way before most people in this business

I,ve had it for 10 years now and everything is still almost mint, great construction...my one and only remark would be that the finish on these basses is very thin and therefore it doesn,t take much to dent...but maybe that is part of his technic to make instrument resonate and vibrate so much..I,d like to think so

I?ve had this Sadowsky Standard 4 now for ten months since Feb ?01.
It was made in August ?92 and bought from Wayne Strobbart of Simply Red for #1,800 ($2,570 approx) which I thought considering the minty condition and the grade of maple, it was a good deal. (even if he wouldn?t let me have it?s case) He had really looked after this bass.
Checked it out with Roger before I bought it and got the thumbs up.
May I add for the purpose of this evaluation, that I have owned and still own many hi-end basses inc. pre CBS P?s and J?s and currently have 16 basses to choose from, and have been playing and recording for over 25 years. This Sadowsky is the best bass by far that I have ever got my hands on.
It sounds, feels, plays and looks fantastic. It has 2 Sadowsky jazz type
p-ups and pre-amp, a maple board with a highly figured cherry burst slightly undersized body and only weighs a tad over 7.5 pounds.
I have gigged constantly with it since the day I picked it up and my other basses rarely get used.
I thought the novelty might wear off, but still after ten months it?s still no. one above my other favourites, Pedulla MVP, Status Series 2 and pre EB & Anniversary Ray?s.
I can?t think of anything about this bass that doesn?t get ten out of ten.
The only very slight down side is that mine does not have tone control in the passive mode, but the active mode has every sound that I need.
Also Roger can supply?s a passive tone kit for a modest cost of about $80. Unfortunately that cost doubles by the time UK tax and import system has finished with it, so I will wait until I, or a colleague travels to NY.
If you want to see it, here is a link to my photo-point album.
