This Samick was my very first bass and it has been able to endure all styles of music I have attempted to play on it. I've played it out of a few amps but my main rig, an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro/410 cab, certainly compliments the great tone of this bass. The sounds it can create are not that diverse, but if you play bass and want bottom end, this will do the job. With a good amp, this bass can be played anywhere and satisfy both the player and the listener.

I bought the bass second-hand and as stated before, it was my first bass so I knew nothing about set-up until after a year or two of playing. However, I have never had a problem with the bass. To this day (7 years after purchase) I have had no work done on the bass. The neck plays so smooth. Anytime I see a Mexican Fender I pick it up to compare the necks and have yet to find a neck that comes close to the Samick. The Samick Artist Series blows away any other "P-bass" in it's price range.

As stated previously, I have had the bass for over 7 years and have had absolutely no problems with it. It could endure quite a bit on the road or in a studio. In that 7 years, no adjustments have been made. The only thing that has changed is my ability to play it. It took some time to match my skills with such a great instrument. This is the perfect starter bass for anyone. However, once you start playing it you may never stop.

Finding a quality lefty to start out on was difficult. The options are quite limited and I was not a fan of the Mexican Fenders. I've been playing for over 7 years now and also own a Fender Hot-Rod P-bass. The Fender has an additional J-pickup and thus more diversity in sound, however the P-style pickups are comparable. The Fender also has a Jazz neck on it which is thinner than the Samick, which is nice. However, the Samick has a much lighter body which is a huge bonus. It's a great bass to begin with and a great bass to grow up with.

This is a very versatile bass guitar... you can alter the settings to get it to sound bassy, full, rich, or if you like a treble-y, sharper sound, it'll do it. It's a little noisier on the treble side, naturally, but it still sounds ok. It's got a pretty bright sound, generally speaking.

I love the action. It's very playable. I don't really focus on one genre of music... I play everything from Molly Hatchet to the Beatles, and I'm happy with it's performance. You can change the pickups to however you want them to sound. Very nice.

This bass can take anything. I was into the metal scene for a while and I beat this thing up, but it plays great and still sounds awesome. you can hand this bass down to your great grandson it'll last so long.

I have been playing for over 20 years and this is one of the best basses I've ever gotten my hands on. Everyone will be sure to enjoy it. I even bought mine used! I would buy this bass over and over again.

I realy like the sound, compared to a squier p-bass there its perfect
i use a peavey tnt-160 bass amp, and a zoom bass pedal
No its not noisy, its clear
a rich full sound yes, and warm too, bright, you cant change the sound like you want
the samick artist series is very good on the slaping side, it pops good
i use it on the stage all the time and nothing else, and i also used it in the studio, for a recording and it sounded grrrrreat.
I would not sell this for the world

This is a correction for my previous entry. The 4-string artist series bass I own has 24 frets, not 32 as I stated previously. Sorry for being misleading on this technical point.

Korean-made. Purchased in 1996. Passive. Rosewood fretboard, Ash, (I think) neck and solid wood (Ash again, I think) body in rose sunburst. Single coil pick-ups: bridge pick-up is single-bar, fret pick-up is spilt configuration. Amazing 32 frets!! Style is sort of Fender-cum-Ibanez. Came with hard case. Single volume and tone controls with 3-position switch. One of the lighter-weight basses I have played.
I was told that Samick and Washburn basses came from the same factory in Korea, although I can't verify this.

Very clean, bright sound. A bit clicky, but if you like funk, it's ideal. It's also got a good bottom end, if a little bit buzzy. Great range owing to extended frets. Action good. Can solo quite fast.
I use a Peavey TKO65 bass amp. It's good for both stage or studio. Good sound for what is essentially a budget bass.

Good set-up. Pick-ups had to be re-adjusted, though. The fretboard was well made, as you would expect on more expensive basses. No rough spots. Over the years, I've had to re-glue one of the pick-ups into it's housing, reinforcing with insulating tape. Here's where the 'budget' aspect shows through. However, not bad after 6 years of ownership. Doesn't go out of tune very much.

It is very robust, as I have a tendency to thump the thing! Other than a pick-up drop out, I've never had a problem.

I bought this on a special deal direct from an importer and so got a special price. I believe it retailed in the UK back in '96 for about 385 pounds sterling. I've never dealt with Samick directly

I'm not really a bass player. Principally keyboards, then guitar. However, this model was intended to by my entry into bass playing, and I've never replaced it. It's very easy to play, but fingering has to be precise, otherwise you can get fretbuzz. Quite melodic and very impressive on 'slap'n'pull' techniques. I don't think it's still made. It's not on the Samick website.
I bought it because the importer I knew said it was great value for money even at retail price and that it was a good bass for the competent guitarist's introduction to bass playing.
It's good enough for me.
