1999 6 string. Neck through body. Natural finish on beautiful hard Walnut body with three wenge stripes. on body and neck. Rosewood fingerboard. Two Samick Soapbar active pickups. Bass and trble knobs as well as volume and panning. All hardware is gold plated. The bridge looks to be a heavy Bad Ass Bridge (adjustible) which along with the neck-through design makes for great for sustain. The neck is narrow, thin and perfectly straight after much playing over the last 6 years. The tuners are heavy-duty (never any problems) and all hardware and electronics still function like new. Excellent quality in the workmanship. The entire instrument appears to be flawless.

I play both Jazz/fusion and progressive metal. The instrument has a full range of tone and good sustain. It can thump or punch on the low end, or you can get a nice clean bright Jazzy sound. Active electronics will allow you tailor the sound. I also use an external equalizer to shape the sound more. I've used in the studio and live. Very dependable. Really nice lead sound as well. Notes ring clear and distinctly. I would consider buying some better pickups if anything, although I am using the stock ones. I like using Hartke 10" speaker cabs with this bass.

The action was set up pretty well from the factory. I lowered the string height a little b/c I play very fast finger style (with occassional pop and slap style).

This has been a great live bass. 6 years and absolutely no problems whatsoever. Neck and truss rod are flawless. Don't need a backup bass. Battery (9V) will need to be changed every so often for the active electronics. Very easy --just unscrew a plate on the back (2 small screws) and plug in the new 9V.

Never had to call them --no problems. They are located in Korea, I think, and they actually make instruments for a few other name-brand guitar companies. Their factory obviously doesn't have quality issues like the Ibanez factory. Not much on their website. The good website is written in Korean --good luck. I won't give them a bad rating since I never had to use them.

I've been playing for 20 years and played many great basses: Fender, Ibanez, Tobias, Warwick, Alembic, etc. This bass sounds and plays like a professional quality bass, at a less expensive price. Although they are not bad pickups, you may consider changing them out. The rest of the bass is flawless as it is. Also, the excellent quality hardwood used to make this adds a little weight which may be an issue for a scrawny metalhead playing live every night. Ibanez 6 strings are much lighter and brighter, but lack the sustain and tonal variations of a fine quality bass due to inferior woods, bolt-on necks, cheaper bridge, etc. The Samick body is not larger than an Ibanez I don't think. The Samick scale is long, so short-armed, short-fingered people may want to look at a smaller bass with less frets.

Here goes, will give you the top to bottom, but in some areas my knowledge is a bit limited. I am not sure of the origin country of this bass, though I assume it is from the asian market. Also I assume that it is Pre 1998 though I am not sure. It is a beautiful 6 string active bass with 24 frets not including the zero fret. It came with two active samick soap-bars with eq. for bass and treble and also volume and panning. I have had to change the battery on this beauty a few times and it isn't to hard to get to, just don't leave your ax plugged in. It has a gorgeous walnut body with a seven piece wenge neck. But unfortunately the finish does not accent the wood, though the finish is good and protective in its own right it does not have the appeal of a hand-rubbed oil finish. It is 35 inch scale with an ajustable bad ass bridge. Also note that this ax is a neck-through body and with a small body this bass is all neck, if you don't have long fingers I don't recommend. About the tuners they are the standard samick on all the artist series, but note knobs, tuners and bridge are accented by gold plating. This bass is quite a step up from the bolt-on artist series cases. I bought it for about $1000 US as is used.

It does suit my style for I am very versatile and can transfer from jazz to latin, straight away to heavy thrash metal, but unfortunately it doesn't have a classic passive j-bass sound. That is what I get for going with active electronics. I use it with the SWR-900 and the big bertha and 6x10 stack, sounds beautiful. But sometimes it gets really boomy and the low B really farts if the action is too low. It has a very punchy sound on the low strings and a very bright jazz like sound on the high strings, but this can all be changed with the actives. Unfortunately really low notes are far to muddy (a problem that plagues all but Warwicks...) and sometimes it is a little to punchy, but it gets the job done from heavy slap funk to a love ballad at some wedding.

Yes I would use this ax without a backup I trust and because of the neck design and headstock it is worry free. Its a workhorse, just keep around spare nine-volts and all standard tools.

I have been playing for 5 years and I am 15 and this bass sure as hell gets the job done. I am actually a cellist and bass is not my main instrument and don't have any complaints. Just all I want for christmas is a Michael Tobias. If you have the same ax I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, hint: sounds really with a morely wah and mo' bass amp!
