22 frets, and a solid wood body no plywood here fella's, basic jazz bass copy

Sound : 8
The sound rivals my MIM jazz bass to be honest the quality and build do as well. Perfect for bringing the funk

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
The setup sucked didnt matter much since I purchased it to strip the body down to it's natural wood finish and setup to my liking. I still am shocked that for the price paid that it has a real wood body no plywood it's either basswood or alder

Reliability/Durability : 10
With a proper setup and a pickup upgrade this bass is a beast and can not be beat price wise. I also upgraded the bridge but this bass sound perfect stock I just cant touch a bass without modding

never had to use this area

Pretty much what you would expect from a budget priced bass, nothing fancy, just what's needed to get the job done; 22 frets, passive J-J configuration with two volume controls and a tone control, maple neck with rosewood fretboard. Like I said, nothing fancy.

Sound : 8
This bass has a pretty good sound, believe it or not. Very articulate, even in the lower frequencies. Nothing's muddy, but neither is it sterile.

P-ups are pretty quiet, but I rarely solo either the neck or bridge p-up of any jazz-type bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I was pretty happy with its fit and finish. Action needed to be tweaked, but every bass I've ever played has needed an action tweak.

Please realize that I did not expect to see the level of fit and finish that one would expect from a "boutique" bass, and I was expecting, and willing to forgive, a few "imperfections". Honestly, though, there isn't anything to complain about. No, it doesn't have exotic woods, expensive hardware, and I really dont care. It looks pretty good, sounds good, and plays well.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I've had it for a few months, no gigging with it yet, but I believe it will hold up well.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
Didn't pay a lot for this bass; it was just an impulse buy for something to do while waiting for some other stuff to arrive. After jamming with a few friends, and just general noodling around, I must say that I'll be getting another one.

Store-bought new in 2002. Made in Korea. 22 frets. 5 strings. Quilt top. 2 volume, 1 tone. Push-pull coil tap on tone knob. 2 active single coil pickups. Ash body. Transparent Blue Green Finish. P-bass body style. Jazz bass pickguard and controls style. Deluxe string-thru bridge. Die cast tuners. Thin Maple neck. Rosewood fingerboard.

Sound : 6
Solid for most styles of music. Use it with an Ampeg stack usually. No effects. Not noisy except when the coil tap is pulled up. Warm sound. Sounds can get dark or bright. Good variety. Good for stage because of the weight. Very light. Like the neck. Not a huge fan of the pickups.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Good action when first bought. Pickups are very high. I'd like them lower. Strings can easily hit again them. No flaw when bought. Nice finish. Great for looks.

Reliability/Durability : 5
Has worn down on me over a few years. Not in the finish or neck at all. Bass seems to have been built very cheaply. Pickup screws have came out, volume knob has broken twice, coil tap no longer works on both setings. Won't last forever with being fixed a lot. Good finish. Hasn't scratched or faded yet. Strap buttons are extremly solid. No problem with them at all. I wouldn't play without a backup. After a few years, action has gone down terribly. Needs set up very badly. Lower strings especially hit and cling and against frets.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 5
Been playing for 5 years. Own a small practice amp as well. I wish I would've bought a cheap Fender bass instead. It would've lasted longer and sounded better. I like the small neck and look. Don't like the pickups or action. Chose this bass because of the store. Wish I would've researched a little more and went with a company I knew. Wish it had better hardware. Buy a Fender.

This is a sunburst Fairlane 4 bass.Made in 2004.Maple neck, rosewood fingerboard.Diecast tuners.Pretty much in the style of a sort of jazz bass.Neck was pretty comfortable to play on.A good bass for someone just learning to play.Very light weight body.It had 2 volumes and one tone.Jazz style pickups.Pretty basic.

Sound : 6
The sound was pretty standard.Covers the blues style fairly well.I didn't purchase this bass mainly because I think in a short period of time the tone could become boring after awhile. Not that much variety in tone.It mainly just gets slightly louder as you turn up the volume, nothing out of the ordinary.I wouldn't use it live, maybe studio. Its not a bass I would consider purchasing. The bass is about 159.00 dollars, maybe a slight cut above a Squier, but still ha a cheap plastic nut. They cut quite a few corners on this model, very cheap but not bad for a beginner style bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Setup was decent for a inexpensive bass.Put together pretty well, everything including hardware pretty solid. No single coil hum of any significance. No flaws that I could see. They could have priced it a little more if they put a better nut in it.Allways felt the nut enhanced tone and playability somewhat. Not sure what type of body wood they used on it,maybe agathis or alder.

Reliability/Durability : 4
Don't own so I don't know.I wouldn't use it to play live. For all of the great reviews this got I didn't feel it was that great, didn't float my boat, for a few hundred more I'm sure you could do better. These instruments are just a slight twist on the old Fender theme. The finish is thin very cheap looking.

Customer Support : 5
They would have to build me a custom shop bass per my specifications but I don't think they could do it at a reasonable price.Wouldn't even waste my time with this company.Greg Bennett seems like a nice man to deal with but you get what you pay for basically.

Overall Rating : 5
I've been playing bass about 28 years, not professionally, but I expect alot from a bass.Ibanez,Fender,Samick,Epiphone, none of them got it for my tastes.I set the bar rather high.Maybe Lakland might win here, don't know.

i bought mine at a local music store when it had just arrived for a cheaper price than regular since i was there when the load arrived. Mine is a 2002 4 string fairlane sunburst color Model#FN1 bass made in indonesia, with 22 frets, rosewood fingerboard,jj pickups,3controls-2 volume and one tone. Its a very light weight bass.

Sound : 8
i like the sound of it very clear although i have heard some hiss noise but that only happen a few times, i use it to play mainly just rock sometimes punk and i feel it gets the job done.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
When i bought it everything was perfect (ive had it for three years)but on the third year one of my controls came loose but i think that was my fault, also the neck is very slim it makes it very easy to get around... its really great.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This bass has gone through a lot of damage but its still in perfect working condition seems like the hardware has lasted for a long time and gone through a lot it has solid hardware.

Customer Support : No Opinion
ive never dealt with them because i have never had too.

Overall Rating : 10
I think this bass is great it suits me and makes my friends jealous, never really had any problems, i reccomend it to beginners and pros.

mine is a 2003 greg bennet jazz model made in indonesia with 22 frets. it has a midnight blue almost purple finish with a white pick guard that looks nice. however there was a ding in the paint that chipped off soon after i bought it, i got the bass 50 dollars off because of that though so its alright alittle nail polish will make it look good, especiaally since i dont plan on selling it, medium size frets which are good for my small hands. tuners are almost always in tune, after a month one might drop by not even a half step.

Sound : 8
i have only played small scale basses in the past, and this is the best sounding smaller bass iv ever owned especially for the price (180 dollars). alot of people say its all right for slap and pop but i dont like it that much once you get to the higher frets, the j pickups are very close to the strings. but still better than anything iv owned. thinkin about up grading pickups even though these ones sound fine.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
i dont know if that paint chip happend in the store or factory but that didnt matter much. what does really really piss me off about it is that the fretting is not done right and very sharp, basically scratch my fingers up every time i do a slide on the g string. fits me great and looks great. bad rating cause of the frets.

Reliability/Durability : 10
this bass seems very sturdy all parts soom solid i would not worry at all about bringing a back up to shows. it can take some abuse.

Customer Support : No Opinion
have not contacted them yet but i might in regards to the fretting.

Overall Rating : 8
overall good bass i would reccomend it had every thing i wanted as far as looks go i knew i was gona buy it as soon as i saw it and played it.

I bought this 2003 bass at a local music gear retailer - Heartland Guitars. Apparently it is Korean-made. The body is agathis and fretboard rosewood. The tuners are non-locking and split. The body somewhat resembles a Fender Jazz, but the split tuners give the bass its own character. The bridge is standard and appears to be well-made. The neck feels shorter and faster.

Sound : No Opinion
This unit has one tone and two volume controls for the passive pickups. When cranked in the higher ranges with the stock electronics, I heard some hiss in the amp. I cracked it open and found that the pots were 500k units (basically better for our 6-string playing bretheren). I replaced all the pots (pentitometers or something) with 250k Fender stock. I replaced the bridge pickup with a Fender '62 Original for strong tone and mids and the neck pickup with a Carvin J99 for a warmer, deeper sound. I play on my church worship team, so the Carvin played alone allows for a less-intrusive, sweeter bass sound on the slow stuff. I open up the bridge (Fender) pickup for our modern songs so my sound can cut through the other guitars with a somewhat punchier effect. This bass comes with some built-in reasonance so it has some natural mids, too. Now it is a really versatile bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I really like the neck action and this was one of the primary reasons I bought this bass. I have smaller hands so a fast-playing neck scores points in my book.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I play nearly every Sunday and church and several practices a week and have never had a reliability problem. The orginal pickups were ok, but I would replace them again if I had to do it over again. The finish is pretty standard and I haven't had any issues with it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not yet dealt with customer support.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I rate this bass a 9 out of 10 (after replacing the stock pickups and electronics.)

2002 4 String Model # FN4- Appears to be a quilted maple, laminated top, beautiful looking bass! 2 Volume controls, 1 tone, Jazz bass pups, generic, but solid tuners, Deluxe Heavier Bridge, i love the slim neck

Sound : 8
It feels great...rock solid. I'm not really a slap/pop funk player, but it makes me want to use my thumb...very crisp sounding.
Played thru a Trace, the tones are pretty varied, using both pups together is quietest and has a nice ring, the pickups one at a time have nice tone , but for classic rock, pop, r&b the combined tone suits me best

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Set up perfectly...flawless...finish is gorgeous, fret work is great (i also have a Greg Bennett series guitar, and i can't say enough good things about these newer Samicks)

Reliability/Durability : 8
Very solid...solid hardware...i baby my gear, but the finish seems tough...would use without backup

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I am really a guitar player, played bass on & off for 20 years...own
lots of guitars (Fender, ESP, Samick, Jerry Jones)
I would definately recommend this bass...it blows away Squiers, Mexican Fenders, cheaper Yamahas and Ibanez, i've tried them all.
There is a feeling of quality that these Samicks have, they feel like much more $$$$. Don't be afraid to try one.

This is a Fairlane model jazz bass by Samick, (Greg Bennett Design) It was made in Indonesia, 2002. I purchased it from Matt's Music in Mass. for $159.00 brand new in factory sealed box! Let me take a moment here to say this, You will not find better prices or service other than Matt's Music for your musical needs. Check him out on the web! mattsmusic.com. Getting back to the bass, it is set up like a jazz bass, has a tabacco sunburst finish, rosewood neck, medium frets, vintage bridge, your basic down to earth bass. I believe the body is alder.

Sound : 6
It has two jazz bass pickups in it from samick. Do like I am going to do, take them out and upgrade them to a jazz bass pickup you like. I will give the stock ones credit for being fair, but they won't cut the mustard for what I need my bass to do. My style of bass playing is older rock, blues, rock a billy and some alternative country. I use an SVT Ampeg Amp. with 8x10 cabinet. Please don't get me wrong the sound I am getting right now from the stock pickup's is not real bad but upgraded one's will do wonders! The resonate tone I can feel through the body when it is unplugged is awesome! To me that is a good sign of good body wood.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
I received this bass in a factory sealed box. I was really suprised with the set up, the action and intonation was great. The intonation was right on the money. The finish is a tabacco sunburst finish. The finish all and all is not to bad, I can not rate it to good being that, there is an orange peel type looking flaw on the back, but, for $159 it is pretty damn good! The hardware on the bass is good, the tuners do not go out of tune, and the bridge keeps the action and intonation perfect, has that original vintage look, can't ask for more than that. The fret work and nut work is top notch!! My rating reverts back to the flaw in the finish. To bad, if it was better it would have really done wonders for this rating.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This bass is nice and solid. It will withstand live playing and also will be a great bass for the studio. I love the neck on this bass it has a fimiliar feel yet, a feel of it's own just nice and comfortable. I have not needed to adjust the truss rod at all. The hardware and strap buttons all seem real good. I would use a back up only because I do not trust the stock pickups.

Customer Support : 9
Have not dealt with them. Being that Samick is the world's largest guitar builder, I would trust them for support.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing bass for 30 years, and can honestly say I really dig this bass. It is pretty light, is well balanced, that is because of the body design and headstock. I suppose what attracted me to it was the fact that it comes from Samicks, Greg Bennett's new designs, it has the jazz bass set up and tabacco sunburst finish, just alot of old tradition that I love. I do not want to compare it to any others to me that would not be fair, it is a good bass on it's own which can not be beat for$159. I would replace it it it were lost or stolen, really love the way it feels and plays.
