I just felt I needed to update my previous review! What the Samick Web page couldn't provide, the Rondo Music Web page did:
-Dual cutaway solid Alder body with a high quality Flame Maple photo Cherry Sunburst finish
-Hi-tech contoured body for easy playability
-High output Split P and J pickups plus two volume and one tone control create a variety of sounds
-Die cast gears and standard bridge
-Bolt on Maple neck features an adjustable truss rod and Rosewood fretboard
-The angled headstock helps increase the tension of the string on the nut and therefore helps transfer string vibration to the guitar for superior sustain
-Precision die-cast tuners and chrome hardware
-34" Scale length
I stand by my original review, I just felt this info should be added! ;-)

This bass was manufactured in Indonesia, try as I may I was unable to find any specs on the Samick web page, which seems to focus more on the Korean-made instruments.
24 frets, I am assuming the dot markers are mother-of pearl, as I am assuming the fretboard is rosewood. The neck is definitely maple, the body is either Alder of Basswood with a mock photo maple top (very well made mind you. Sealed tuning machines, P & Jazz Bass-style pickups, flat-mount bridge with adjustable string-height and intonation for each string. Not a bad instrument at all.

As expected, the bridge pickup is a tad more prone to noise (duh, it's a single-coil pickup!)and the middle pickup is whisper quiet. The sound range is quite good for the money paid: from bright and slappy to deep and bassy.

Standard factory action, I adjusted the truss rod & string height myself. The pickups are at the proper height, neck-to-body joint is neatly done, there is a bit of rattle (my bad for setting the strings so low) but nothing noticeable through the amp. The finish is a gorgeous mock flame maple on Alder, with a classic, mouth-watering cherry sunburst finish.
Be mindful of bumping it: that wood is rather soft and ding-prone.

It's well built, make no mistake about it. Treat it well and it will be quite durable and reliable.

Here's the hitch: Samick doesn't seem to even recognise making this bass!

I was a full-time bassist in the 80's, gave it up in the 90's to focus on guitar, and recently decided to get re-acquainted with the instrument. For the money spent it's a decent bass, with a decent sound and a sweet look.
No competition for the Fender/Warwick/Rickenbacker et al by any stretch of the imagination, but it suits me fine. I wish it came with a hars-shell case, but one wasn't expected for the price I paid ... I will get one though, it's a worthwhile investment. A good bass for the beginner or the bassist who isn't "label driven".
Really, it's not a bad instrument at all!
